Edmund sighed slightly as he walked slowly through the woods, gripping the bag that hung from his shoulder so tightly that his knuckles were going white.
He wrapped his cloak tightly around him as he walked, trying his hardest to keep warm, which he had a feeling was going to be alot harder once night came.
Peter had told him to just keep walking until he was a safe enough distance away from the castle, and Edmund decided perhaps a day or two of walking should be enough, although he couldn't say he was really looking forward to it though.
And he was definitely not looking forward to going to sleep that night. It was only a few days until December, and with the threat of the witches followers coming after him or hurting his siblings, his dreams were just thag slightest bit worse, and Peter wasn't there to comfort him or even wake him up.
But just like Peter has said, he could be brave. He would be brave, for his siblings sake, and anyway, Peter was going to come searching for him the second they won the battle, and everything was going to be fine. He only had to cope for a few days, and he could do that... he was just about sure that he could.
"The army is going to be here at any minute." Orious said slowly. "I've got spies watching them and the closer they get, the more numbers they seem to become, I dont know how we're going to win this battle."
Peter sighed. "How an earth are there this many of them?" He muttered.
"My guess is they've been secretly building up this army for well over a year." Orious answered. "Somehow without us knowing too."
"We can do this." Lucy said firmly. "I know we can. We just have to trust in Aslan."
"Lucy's right you know." Susan said with something of a forced smile. "Trust in Aslan and we'll be alright."
Peter stared at Lucy for a moment, having not even turned his head when Susan spoke. "Maybe I should've sent you with Ed." He muttered.
"We discussed why none of us could go with him." Lucy said, frowning. "Why?" She asked.
"I don't want you anywhere near the fighting." Peter sighed. "You're too young."
"I'm 12." Lucy said quickly, sounding shocked. "Edmund was twelve when he fought at Beruna, so why can't I fight now?"
"Edmund was nearly thirteen." Peter said quickly. "And did you really think I wanted him to fight at Beruna? No I didn't, and I was right to think that, especially after what happened to him." He paused for a moment before swallowing hard and continuing. "I don't want you fighting Lucy. Which is why you're going to a part of the castle that is going to be safe and well away from the fighting."
"Where's that?" Susan asked, a small frown on her face.
"Well, not exactly in the castle." Peter said. "But those cave in the cliffs by the beach."
Lucy sighed, looking down at the ground. "Do I have to?" She mumbled.
Peter bit his lip and after a moment or two, knelt down in front of his sister. "Please Lu." He mumbled, pushing some of the hair from her face as she slowly looked up at him. "I only wanna keep you safe."
Lucy stared at him for a long while before eventually nodding her head. "Alright." She breathed. "I'll go."
"Thank you." Peter said, a grateful smile on his face. "And don't worry, you won't be alone. there'll be plenty of other people with you."
"Just please be careful." Lucy said quickly.
Peter nodded and smiled at her. "I will be, don't worry." He breathed, before standing and turning
to face Susan. "Su-"
"Don't even think about it Peter." Susan interrupted him. "I'm fighting and you can't stop me."
Peter looked about to protest but in the end gave in and nodded his head. "Alright." He mumbled. "But just please for goodness sake be careful."
"I will be, we all will be." Susan said firmly.
"And if the witches army try and find Edmund?" Lucy asked slowly.
Peter swallowed hard. "We say - say the hag succeeded in what she came here to do." He mumbled. "But we killed the hag for what she did."
Both Susan and Lucy nodded their heads, before Susan sighed. "I suppose we should go and get ready." She whispered.
Peter nodded before turning to Orious. "I want you to take Lucy and anyone else he isnt or cant fight, and take them down to the caves, and then return here as quickly as you can." He said.
Orious bowed his head almost immediately. "Of course, your majesty." He said, before turning to face Lucy.
Lucy sighed, and after another quick goodbye, she walked from the room, head down and nothing but worry on her face.
"Come on." Peter said slowly, glancing up at Susan. "Let's go and get ready."
Susan swallowed hard and nodded. "Do you think we'll be able to hold them off so they don't reach the actual castle?" She asked as they walked.
"I really hope we can." Peter replied quietly. "I'd hate to think what would happen if they did get inside the castle."
"It wouldn't be anything good though." Susan whispered. "I'm still shocked that they've managed to put together an army of this size without us finding out."
"Me too." Peter sighed. "But we have no time to try and come up with an answer." He added quickly. "We've got a battle to win."
Things are finally happening :) so you all next Tuesday xx
