As far as I remember, it was 10 years ago. I'm just a 6 years old brat and you're just an absolute clueless innocent 8 years old who breathe volley.
"Kiyoo-chan!" The little girl dressed into a tattered sailor outfit shouted, she's lost and her eyes are glassy, tears threatening to fall.
She's practicing her ballet routine when she fell from the little cliff behind the play ground where she and her cousin played. Kiyoko was looking for her lost hair pin she didn't even noticed that her cousin is nowhere to be seen.
Aki walked around trying to find the road. Her dirty dress swayed with the wind so she clutched it tight. Her right arm swelled badly.
She tried to look around her surrounding.
Trees here.. and some beautiful wild flowers there.
She noticed the beautiful yellow flower as it dance with the wind gracefully. She plucked it and smiled while her hands reached out for another one. She wiped the tears threatening to fall.
"Watch out!" There's a ball coming on her way with an incredible speed.
With her natural instinct she received the ball but because of her lack of ball control it went flying on her sides.
A figure bigger than hers appeared from the direction of the ball. A boy with a stern face and olive colored hair looked at her.
Her eyes locked with his. Dusting off her already tattered dress she stand awkwardly. The boy's lips moved..
"Nice Receive.."
That's when she met the only one. Ushijima Wakatoshi.
After that encounter, I found myself looking forward every vacation. After playing with Kiyoo-chan, I'll meet him near his house or he'll meet me on mine. We practiced and hang out a lot, His Daddy and mine are friends so I often play with him while our Dads talk adult stuffs.
The next thing I knew, he became my 2nd Bestfriend.
"Ne, Toshi... What school do you want to attend Middle school to?" the 8 years old girl asked plopping on his bed playing with his volleyball.
"Shiratorizawa Junior high.." the boy replied quietly catching the ball from the girl.
"Hey mean! I'm still practicing my toss! I want to join a powerhouse school too!" Aki pouted.
"Then toss for me.."
I'm fine with that..
He's like the older brother I never had.
The time when the bond between his Mom and Dad loosen he decided to follow his father which is living in America temporarily because he's coaching one of the team back then.
"Do you really want to leave Japan Toshi?" A 13 years old Aki asked Wakatoshi while leaning on his back.
"I don't know.. Having Father with me is good.. But I miss Mother.." He exhaled.
"Then... I want to play more.. I want to make them both proud.. But they're not together anymore and--I'm really confused.. Why?" Wakatoshi mumbled.
Without any second thought the girl hugged him from behind. Kneeling and resting her head on his shoulder she hummed.
"I'm here Toshi.. I'll always be.."
That's the moment we're the fine line between friendship and love became a blur between the two of us.
"Hey Aki," the olive haired snapped her out of her thoughts. "Have you.. Have ever been in love with someone? "
The ravenette's eyes widened.
"Actually no," She said looking at the ball on her hands. "I've been too busy playing and practicing.." She continued.
Wakatoshi hummed in response.
"I like you.." He blurted out.
"Uh--? Of course? You're my friend? Right?" She said a little bit confused.
Ushijima Wakatoshi is a very straightforward man. He NEVER lies. He's a little bit dumb when common sense entered the situation.
"More than that..." with that an unfamiliar feeling made her heart leap.
"What a timing.. I like you too.."
With that 3 words, the relationship we had changed quickly.
Our parents approved us.
The world is not against us.
But no...
Destiny must've wrote a twist between the stupid thing we called 'relationship'
"Toshi?" Aki called out. The said man looked at her. "Where are you going?" she noticed the luggage and turned to face him with a confused expression.
"I'm sorry..
Damn. It's just how many months? 2?
"What are you talking about?" Aki asked nervously.
"I'm going back to Japan.. I want to play and stand on my own feet.. Without Father's help.."
"That's okay.. When will you leave? I'll send you off maybe I'll visit--"
"You don't understand.." He cut her off.
"Huh?" the last 3 braincells inside Aki acted. "What do you mean I don't understand?"
"I need to practice and focus.."
That last sentence of his send shivers on my spine.
It's.. It's too cold.
"So you're saying that you're going to break up with me.. Toshi?"
".. Yeah."
Oh..
She smiled sadly, avoiding his gaze.
"That's.. That's frustrating.." She said laughing while tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Goodbye.."
I stared on his retreating back.
He left me too..
Just like what Dad did.
(Third person's point of view)
"Toshi?" The girl asked.
"Aki.." He stared at her.
She changed so much. She's not an 6 years old on a sailor dress, she's not a whiney brat anymore, she became a fine woman.
"You've changed.." Wakatoshi said.
"You too.." She said feeling a little awkward.
"How sweet! Look how about you guys take a walk and catch up? Your Dad and I will talk about something okay?" Nanoka said shooing them off.
They walk side by side.
1 meter apart.
But why? The ravenette can't understand. He's there.. and yet it's like he's a million light year apart from her.
"Sorry.." Wakatoshi broke the silence between them.
"I forgive you.. I can't--I can't hate you Toshi, you know that right?" She mumbled.
"How?" He stopped on his track. "How can we mend this fault between us?" She stopped and looked at him straight on his eyes.
"I.. Don't know.." She said awkwardly.
"I shouldn't have said those words.." He said.
"No," Aki approached him. She placed her hand on his cheeks. "Do you regret it?"
"No, I don't regret anything." He said placing his hands on hers.
"Then don't say that.." She smiled softly. "You're a part of me and no one can change that.. You're my 2nd best friend after all." She walk ahead him
"So, Anne is still the number 1 huh?" she stopped on her tracks remembering what happened.
"Anne.."
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Herson told me what happened.."
"No, It's okay... Look at you Toshi, you never changed.." She said.
It's been so long since she conversed with Wakatoshi like this.
But the fault is still there.
With Wakatoshi, she can be herself.. No more masks. That's one of the reason why she loved him.
"You're still the same too.." She grinned. The grin she often shows.
"So, friends again?" she brought her pinky infront of him.
Then he grabbed and hugged her tight.
Then the faults closed up. It's just the two of them.
It's almost a movie scene..
Standing in between the lamp posts with the moon and stars shining so bright.
"I'm glad.. I'm glad we're okay.. " He said.
She hummed in agreement.
"So you want to hang out and practice again just like old times?" She asked.
"I have practice after school and during off days." He responded.
"That's okay.. Well.. Let me visit you any other day."
His eyes travelled on her uniform. "You're from Karasuno?"
"Yeah.."
"You know.." He stopped walking.
"You should have come to shiratorizawa.." They both said.
"HAHAHA! got you there!" She laughed earning a curious look from the ace. "Toru is always whining about that!"
"You know Oikawa?"
"Uhuh... He's my neighbour." She stated. "Let's stop over his house and annoy him!" she grabbed his hands.
"You're free now.. Toshi..
I'm glad my heart is finally free too.. "
"Aki-chaaan~" The familiar voice echoed inside her room.
Her.. Room?
"Fuck! What are you doing here Shitoru!?" She gasped covering her head with her thick dark blue comforter.
"You're so cute! You're drooling MUWAHAHA!" He laughed evilly showing her the picture he took earlier.
"Give me that you crap! How did you even get here?!"
"Hm.. Better get ready Aki-chan, we're going to be late." She took a quick look on her clock and restrained herself from throwing it on the chocolate haired setter.
"... Mom! Call Toshi and please say that Toru wants to meet him now!" She yelled out making the boy's face twitch.
"Aki-chan you're so mean!" Aki striked his signature peace sign.
"What happened to you? You're in a good mood today? Don't tell me you and Ushiwaka-chan made up and you're dating again?!" Toru paled looking at Aki like she's a hideous creature.
"What? No! We're not together.." She grinned.
"Then why are you smiling like that if you guys aren't together?" Toru asked hiding his smile.
"You won't understand.." She said shooing him out of her room.
'Yeah maybe I won't.. But please keep smiling.."
Seeing your smile will be the death of me..
And I'm glad to die with that circumstances..' he smiled to himself.
"Aki?" She answered the call. It's lunch break and she's eating with Hinata and the other players.
"Toshi? What's up?" She nearly choked.
"I'm just wondering if you could practice with the rest of us? Coach Washijo asked for you." He said from the other line.
"So the demon coach is still coaching your school?" She asked and he hummed in response. "Sure.. After school?" She puff a strawberry inside her mouth.
Wahijo-sensei is one of her Dad's acquaintance. Every vacation her dad, with or without her, will come over Shiratorizawa Academy to talk occasionally with the Coach. It's been a while since she saw him so it will be a great opportunity to catch up.
"Yes, I'll pick you up-- don't speak when you're mouth is full Aki." She could tell he's glaring from the other line.
"Yes, yes.. Bye Toshi, see you later.." She said and he hunged up.
"Who's that Aki-chan?" Hinata asked looking at the ravenette beside Yachi.
"It's Toshi.. Coach Washijo wants me to join Shiratorizawa's practice later.." She said plainly. The people near her nearly choke their food out.
"You mean.. Ushiwaka? You're going to practice with Ushiwaka? And and his team?!" The orange fueball jumped up and down.
"Uhuh.. Coach Washijo is one of Dad's acquaintance here.. So he knows me since the day I started touching the volleyball.." She explained.
"Goodluck Aki-chan! Beat Ushiwaka for us!" Hinata yelled.
"I'm right here beside you.. Idiot." She said covering her ears.
Kageyama Tobio chewed his sushi. His blue eyes wandered around and it landed towards the other ravenette setter. She's been acting too weird for her own good. Especially when she's around him.
'What's with you.. Genius?' He mentally asked.
"Bold of you to think she could beat Ushijima-san." He butted in drinking his daily dose of milk.
"H-Hey! I beat him before!" She protested. "and--and.. AH! Nevermind.." She said pink dusting her cheeks.
'Atleast she protested back.. That's normal? I think?' He thought.
The definition of normal for them is not normal like the others think of it. Anyways, the official setter of Karasuno looked at her face tilted to Yachi's direction trying to hide her reddened cheeks. Her side bangs hiding her eyes.
Tobio's mind replayed her flustered face trying to protest. Okay.. It's official, Kageyama Tobio wanted to kill himself.

Why the fuck did he found her cute right now?!
