Danny's POV
I was getting ready for the dance-off, I put a lot of gel in my hair and greased it up and then I put the comb in my back pocket as Daisy came running in. "Guess what Danny!" She smiled.
I chuckled and bent down a little.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm going to see you on TV!" She squealed making me laugh.
"Ya better." I winked.
"Danny, Sandy is here!" I heard my mother called out.
"Let's go kiddo." I said picking Daisy up as we walked out of my bedroom and downstairs to great mom, dad and Sandy at the door.
"Wow Sandy, you look pretty." Daisy said as I put her down.
"Thank you sweetie." She smiled.
I smiled at them.
"Ok kids, be safe and have fun." My dad tells us.
"We will dad." I said, gently giving Sandy a kiss on the cheek.
I gave my mom and Daisy a kiss on the cheek and gave my dad a man-hug, I led Sandy out to my car.
"There you m'lady." I said opening the door for her.
"Thanks." She smiled as she got in.
I shut the door and ran to the driver side, getting in. So we drove to Rydell for the dance-off and we got out, walking inside. We arrived to the gym feeling ready to dance the night way!
"Danny, this is so exciting." Sandy said smiling.
"Yeah, well, you see what you gotta do is make friends with the cameraman." I told her.
"You know the cameraman?" She asked.
"Yeah, his name's Ted." I told her. "He was the old friend of the family, he and my dad used to go to the same school."
"Cool." She smiled.
I chuckled at her.
"Aright, kids. I want a big circle. C'mon on boys and girls, we are going on the air very shortly. But first, some warm-up numbers with Johnny Casino and the Gamblers." The guy from the national bandstand said announced, he ushers us all in a big circle which gives a very huge space in the gym, he says and we all cheered loudly excited to be on television nationwide.
We walked over to Putzie and Jan.
"Hey lovebirds," Jan smiled.
"Hi Jan, wow you look amazing." Sandy smiled.
"Thanks." Jan smiled.
"And may I say that you look like a princess." Putzie told Sandy.
I smiled at him being so sweet towards Sandy, my boys really do like Sandy!
"Aw thank you Putzie." She smiled.
"And you look so handsome Danny." Jan tells me.
I gave her a warm smile.
"Why thank you, and Putzie...you look amazing buddy." I said patting his back smiling like a proud big brother.
"Thanks Zuko." He smiled.
"And remember what I told your parents yesterday." I said.
"Danny, please...not in front of the girls." He scolded making him chuckle at me.
"Ok, you kids go have fun but not too much fun." Danny warned us. "Don't do what Kenickie will do." I added.
He chuckled while rolling his eyes at me.
"Danny," I heard Sandy says. "Leave him be." She giggled.
"Hey, gotta keep my boys in line." I joked.
She giggled again.
"Come on!" I said as we started dancing.
So we did our dance and once we did our finished, everyone cheered and I patted Putzie's back as we walked past him and Jan.
"You are a great dancer Danny." Sandy tells me.
"You're better." I told her.
She laughs.
"We're the best together." She said.
"Now that I agree." I said with a wink making her laugh.
"Come on, let's take a little break." I said as we sat by the wall where the other were. "You havin' fun?" I asked her.
"The best!" She replied.
"I'm glad." I told her. "Just remember, if Rizzo say something stupid, ignore."
"Danny, let's not talk about the Rizzo please." She said.
I smiled.
"Ok." I said kissing her cheek.
"I love you Danny," She smiled.
"I love you, too." I told her.
"I hope I don't get camera fright." I heard her say.
"Oh, don't worry about it." I told her, as I looked over at her. "We're gonna be cool, all right?" I smiled.
"Yeah?" She asked.
"Don't worry?" I asked as she nods her head. "Good. Come on, let's go."
We both stood up to dance again, so we kind of slow danced to mine an Doody as well favorite song, Those Magic Changes, Doody would ALWAYS sings that. But I don't blame him, it's a good song!
"A melody that's never the same! A melody that's calling your name" I sung.
"Did you ever think about taking up singing professionally?" Sandy asked me.
"Come back to me, please" I sung off-key.
Then I felt someone tap my back.
"Hey, Zuko! Zuk! Zuk!" I heard Kenickie called out. "I want you to meet Cha Cha DiGregorio." Oh no!
What is with him going my regrettable past romances!? First Rizzo and now her! Ok Zuko, keep it cool!
"How you doing, Zuko baby?" I heard her asked me, trying to be flirty.
But I kept on pacing back and froth.
"Alright." I answers, not making eye contact.
"Who is she?" I heard Doody asked.
You don't remember!? C'mon Doody!
"They call me Cha Cha, 'cause I'm the best dancer at Saint Bernadette's." Cha-Cha explains to them.
"With the worst reputation." Frenchy retorts.
My boy got taste!
"Let's go, Sandy." I dragging Sandy away from them.
I knew she's gonna ask me about the girl!
"Who's that girl?" She asked.
Bingo!
"She's just a girl I know, that's all." I lied.
C'mon Zuko! So I led her to the line of girls where I would stand across from her in a line of boys. It's a dance were a couple comes down the line while we dance. Soon it was our turn.
"How do you know her?" Sandy asked me.
She's just an old friend of the family, that's all." I lied.
I just kept on dancing, avoiding the whole Cha-Cha thing! I saw Putzie and Jan danced and Kenickie slap Putzie's butt for good job…If that make sense? By the end of the song, she shushes everyone and shouts "The Rydell fight song!" Most of the student body cheered, except us. I was like... Ok... Let's go with the new arrangement to the song we hate so much and then McGee and couch Calhoun walked down the hall to the front and climbed up to the stage. "When you're finished." She said.
A voice in the crowd shouted, "We're finished!"
I heard Kenickie whispers something in my ears, but couldn't hear what he said, but I just nodded my head.
She continues, "You will be happy to know that I am not judging the dance contest." We started cheering. "I think we owe a round of applause to Patty Simcox and Eugene Felisnick and committee for their beautiful decorations!"
"LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE TOILET PAPER!" I hear Sonny shout out loud and got us cheering again.
I chuckled at him, that's my Sonny-Boy!
Again, she continues, "In a few moments, the entire nation will be watching Rydell High." She sighs, "God help us. And I want you all to be on your best behavior."
Sonny shouts, "NO HEINIE BITING!" And we all laugh.
"And now, here he is, the prince of the platters, Mr. Vince Fontaine!" Miss McGee announced to us.
McGee shouted his name again, and he comes down the middle with a bunch of crazy fans jumping at him and touching him. He comes up on stage and then starts doing his famous kicks to the drum beat sound. We all started screaming.
"Hi kids! Hey, it's great to be here at Rydell High! What's your name sweetheart?" He asks McGee, and we all laugh again.
She comes back to the mic. "Now, for the rules." Oh great. There are rules.
A guy in the crowd shouted. "Up the rules!"
Couch Calhoun came back to the mic and recites, "Game rule one. All couples must be boy-girl. Alright! Alright! Alright! Come on!" Couch Calhoun continues, "Game rule two, during the dance contest, if you're tapped on the shoulder, you must leave the floor immediately, or else. I mean it."
And McGee took the mic to finish, "And rule three, anyone doing tasteless, or vulgar movements, will be disqualified." Then we start booing.
Couch Calhoun asked them, "Can we keep it clean, please? Let's keep it clean."
The same guy from before rushes past him, "20 seconds!"
Vince takes the mic and says quickly as possible.
"Thank you fans and friends, odds and ends and now for you gals and guys, a few words to the wise. You Jim and Sals are my best pals. And to look your best for the big contest, just to be yourselves and have a ball. That's what it's all about after all! So forget about the camera, and think about the beat. We'll give the folks at home a real big treat. Don't worry about where the camera is, just keep on dancin, that's your biz. Hey if I tap your shoulder move to the side. Let the others finish the ride!" He said.
I felt Kenickie nudge me and I leaned in so he can whispers.
"Dan-O, I'm so sorry." He said. "I really hope Sandy doesn't expects a thing."
I just nodded my head and held her in my arms.
"Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five! Four! Three! Two! One!" Bam! We're now officially live on television!" Vince talks to the camera. "Hello! Welcome to National Bandstand, coming to you live from Rydell high school! This is the event you've all been waiting for, the national dance off. And away we go with Johnny Casino and the gamblers." Then they started playing "Hound Dog" by Elvis.
Vince comes back the camera. "Now to the event you've all been waiting for, the 'National dance off!' Some lucky guy and gal is gonna go bopping home with some fabulous prizes. But don't feel bad if I bump you out, cause it doesn't matter if you win or lose, it's what you do with your dancing shoes. Hey does everybody here know Marty?" He added. "Ok cats! Throw your mittens around your kittens, and away we go!" And quick as soon as the music started, we immediately started dancing again. Sandy and I went to the center to do thr Hand-jive. I was gonna dance when I realized that Sonny, who was so drunk now, stopped her. I tried to go after her but she ran off and I was pulled back to see Cha-Cha there.
Oh no! Doody kept telling me to dance, I knew in his eyes that Frenchy went after her. So I kept on dancing and I slides down the floor giving Putzie and everybody high-fives and stood up, doing the same thing I did the side. Then we finished.
"Now let's meet them. Here they are, the new champs. Come on. Come on over here." I heard Vince yelled. "Can I have your names, please?"
I combed my as Cha-Cha raised my hand up.
"Cha Cha DiGregorio and Danny Zuko." She cried.
"Cha Cha and Danny, congratulations." Vince stated. "Now let's see our champs in a spotlight dance." He announced.
So I held my arm out for Cha-Cha to grab and we slow danced, to be honest I don't wanna do this at all. I need to find Sandy and tell her all the truth and how I felt about her and how MUCH she means to me. Just then I saw 3 guys walking in front of the camera and then pulled their pants down, mooning everyone. Hah, now that is funny! I can see Kenickie or Sonny doing it, but not so much of my Putzie or Doody! I saw the three guys run off.
"Who would do such a thing?" Cha-Cha asked.
I let go of her.
"I'm outta here!" I said to her and ran out of the gym.
I heard Cha-Cha running after me.
"Zuko, are you really gonna go to that cry baby?" She asked.
I felt rage and turned to her.
"Sandy is no cry baby!" I scolded at her. "She's the BEST thing that EVER happen to me! And you planned this, and used Kenickie to get to me! Let me tell you Charleen! Nobody, I mean NOBODY treats me or my boys like dirt!"
I was so annoyed, frustrated and angry!
"And I love Sandy!" I cried. "I love her all of my heart! She's my world!"
I walked off angry and upset, stopping at the bench and looked up letting out a small chuckle feeling so stressed. Why me! All I want is have a best relationship!
