Once Maeve got me to her room, she let me shower and now I was in another pair of pajamas holding the warm hot chocolate she made for me. It's rare to see a supe without their costume, but she was in a white lace night gown with a matching kimono robe of it. Her hair was pulled back as she just sat in front of me. We sat at her round dining table.
"So… Black Noir killed a guy you were on a date with?" she asked. I wanted to sip the hot chocolate but I had no will to. I nodded.
"I don't understand why he did it. I mean, I admit it I played into this. I shouldn't have slept with him once I found out it was him leaving the gifts." I said and she winced some.
"Did he say why he did it? I mean sign or anything to you on why he did it? I mean Black Noir doesn't just kill civilians unless he's told." she told and I nodded slowly.
"Yeah he carved an answer into my date saying I was his." I told my emotions already getting to me again as I thought of Mason. Her eyes popped some.
"Wow he tried to communicate with you? That's huge, he never wants to talk to anyone. That is saying something. And I've worked with him for years." she told. I shook my head.
"Doesn't make me feel any better since he carved words into an innocent person's flesh!" I almost snapped.
"And then you said he… kicked the body in anger when you refused him?" she asked. I nodded.
"Like he was a football. I'm surprised it didn't explode. I'm pretty sure the body hit someone because there was a crash later. I just had to get out of there." I replied. She nodded looking down some, eyebrows flexing as if she were impressed?
"God, I hate to say this… but I think he likes you." she said. I scoffed immediately in response. I didn't believe that, I wouldn't.
"He doesn't even know me. And he doesn't even talk so how would that even work?" I asked and she shrugged.
"Unless your pussy is like liquid gold around him to where he never wants to give it up, I gotta say I think he's caught feelings. He's never killed anyone over anybody especially not a woman. This is how he's claiming you." she said. I groaned.
"I don't want to be claimed!" I snapped.
"You don't?" she asked almost stunned. I paused for a few seconds before nodding.
"Okay yes I do, but not by a hired killer who is basically a god and is loyal to the job. I want an alpha who can be loyal to me." I said with a light pout looking away finally sipping the hot chocolate. God it was good. Maeve nodded slowly.
"Look it can be dangerous dating a supe, I get it. That's why only you and I know about Elena." she said and I stared at her with a soft yet serious gaze.
"And even now deep inside you still do not trust me with that fact." I replied. She huffed softly and shook her head.
"Hey we're talking about you not me." she said. I bit my lip some tilting my head.
"You dated Homelander…" I replied and she nodded crossing her arms some.
"You've looked into his eyes. You know what he is capable of." she replied. I nodded. I know what kind of monster he is.
"I do." I replied and she nodded.
"I remember he killed someone I went on a date with as well and easily covered it up. Black Noir doesn't have to cover anything up. Vought winds him up and releases him onto the world." she explained. I continued to stare at her giving a soft nod.
"Vought winds you all up." I responded and she nodded in agreement before we were both sitting in silence sighing to ourselves. "What should I do?"
"What do you want?" she asked instead. I shrugged.
"I didn't want this. I was hoping he'd get bored like you said." I replied. She shook her head grinning some.
"Anyone who is caught in your pull would have to fight hard to want to get out of it. You have this strange energy about you, Ayana. I felt it the minute I saw you, Starlight feels it hell even Homelander feels it. Maybe that's your supe power maybe you're some type of walking aphrodisiac that no matter who is around you they're immediately drawn. Hell, maybe that's what's going on with Black Noir except he's not trying to fight your gravitational pull. He's diving straight for you." she explained. I looked up in thought of her words. I didn't know what she was talking about at all.
"Maybe I'm just so full of positive energy." I replied and she chuckled.
"Yeah maybe." she said with disbelief. "Look if I was in your position, I'd use this to my advantage. Test the waters with Noir see what he's willing to do for you. If he just wants to use you then fine you use him."
"That will not help anything if whatever is going on between us has to end. Maybe that's what I need to do just end it." I replied. She let out a loud laugh in utter disbelief which I frowned at.
"First you both need to figure out what this is. Obviously he wants to continue this… if you don't and you feel you can't tell him then just avoid him. Maybe he will catch the hint." she said.
"And if he catches the hint do you think he'll move on?" I asked. She sucked in hair through her teeth.
"Well if I'm right and he really does have feelings, you're not going anywhere." she said. I glowered now and I shook my head.
"So I'm trapped basically unless I just give in and do whatever it is this is!" I said frustrated and she shrugged.
"He's the god and you're the human. Although you could use your human abilities to bend that god to your will." she said with a careless shrug. Her words sank into my mind. I was fine with just fucking and doing our own thing, I preferred that, but now this hit the roof.
"What if the god is playing tricks on me? What if he's just using me?" I asked lightly, the worry filling my eyes. Maeve tilted her head some.
"You can't read him and that worries you." she said and I nodded.
"It scares me." I admitted. "I mean what if he has ulterior motives? I'll never know." She chuckled and shrugged.
"That's basically all life is. For once you met someone who can hide himself from you and you don't like it. Now you are vulnerable." she explained and I stiffened and looked away.
"I don't mind being vulnerable with those like me. Not being able to read a supe is dangerous because I know how most supes are…" I said with mild disdain and her eyes fell some as she hid her guilt from me. I looked at her and shook my head feeling like a complete bitch now. "Maeve I'm sorry."
"For what telling the truth? You know I didn't really like you when I heard about you because of the power you have. You can see into us- all of us. We can't hide from you spiritually as you can't hide from us physically. I'm actually jealous of Noir. He can hide everything from you." she explained softly. I looked from her to the table now knowing she was right.
"It's getting late. I should head home." I replied and she looked up at me almost quickly shaking her head.
"No. It's already morning and the thugs and criminals are awake and wild right now. You take my bed and I'll take my couch. I'm sure Madelyn will be calling you soon anyways." she said and my eyes sparkled some.
"Or how about we both take the bed. Your couch sucks and it's big enough for both of us." I replied. She gave a gentle smile before nodding and we both stood up and moved to her bedroom.
"Wow are we having a slumber party?" she asked and I chuckled.
"Just don't tell Starlight. I'm sure she'll be jealous." I teased and she grinned as we headed down the hall and into her glamorous room. Casually we moved over to her bed and slid beneath the sheets and I could tell she was stiffening as a board as she just remained on her back staring at the ceiling.
"Wow these blankets are so comfy and soft." I replied turning on my side to look at her. She grinned and did the same.
"You know you could have this too. I'm sure Madelyn would give you whatever you wanted to make you happy." she said. I looked up some in thought.
"But that would mean you all would have more access to me. Besides I am not Vought I am Ayana." I replied. She gave me a goofy look.
"No you're afraid Noir is going to just slip into your room any time he wants and give you the business." she said and finally we both burst into laughter and I definitely needed this laughter after earlier.
"You're so right." I laughed more. When the silence took over we just continued to stare at the ceiling. "Once Vought has you it owns you, it controls you. It controlled my father and I want to just know if I wanted to leave I could." Her gaze lingered down some as she looked to be lost in thought before looking up at me and smiling some.
"Just take one problem at a time." she replied and I nodded feeling the goofiness die only to replace with sadness.
"What if he does this to every guy I like?" I asked feeling my eyes start to water. Maeve stared at me with deep eyes before shaking her head.
"Don't like any other guys. That'll keep them alive." she replied. I looked at her nodding some and she smiled and rolled on her other side, so her back was to me. I stared at the ceiling for a moment before closing my eyes and just staring at the dark. One problem at a time. Working for Vought would hardly be a problem as long as I had no issues from them. Black Noir would eventually become an issue, I just knew it. I couldn't just be naïve and go along with what he wanted because what if he wanted hurts me in the end?
Did he want to hurt me? I don't know. I don't know anything about him. But he knows nothing about me. Did he want to know me? Well we've been around each other briefly enough that he could have tried. He can't slice up flesh every time he wanted to speak to me. Maybe I needed to give him a small deal breaker and see how he handles it and if he couldn't agree then that would be the end.
Morning came quicker than I had expected and I stretched some getting up and smelling bacon. I knew Maeve was gone from the bed. I got up and moved into living room glancing over to the kitchen to see a fully dressed Maeve cooking. She looked at me and smiled.
"Morning. You sleep okay?" she asked. I nodded.
"Surprisingly I did. I thought I'd be restless but I went right out. No nightmares or anything." I replied. She nodded, her smile remaining.
"Good. I just started making food, right now there's only enough for one. You want some?" she asked. Before I could reply, I got a call on my phone. I looked at the caller ID and saw it was Madelyn.
"I don't think so." I replied holding up the phone to her. She grinned.
"Called it." she replied and I grinned and answered the phone.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Come to my office once you're dressed. Ashley is on her way now to Maeve's room with a change of clothes for you." she said. I rolled my eyes.
"Yes." I replied and hung up. I thought for a moment about what my day looked like and I looked at Maeve. "Hey do you any notebook and pen I can have?" She blinked in thought before chuckling.
"Yeah like I'd have one." she replied before looking up in surprise. "Actually yes I have some you can have." I smiled mischievously in response.
When Ashley arrived, she handed me a black pencil skirt and white blouse and matching wedges. And they fit perfectly. She didn't question why I was in Maeve's room because she did not care. She was speeding down the hall and I followed.
"So Madelyn is going to be discussing using you in the field now, talking with troops, generals and even terrorists to gain information. It'll be a slow process but she wants you to be able to speak to one terrorist once a month and soon maybe weakly if needed." she replied swiftly. I nodded expecting this.
"Got it." I replied. As we walked we noticed a familiar black cladded ninja walking on the opposite side of the hall. I tensed now upon seeing him remember everything so swiftly. The blood that sprayed my face, the hand that caressed my cheek and played with the blood on me, his lips devouring mine tasting of blood, his hand forcing me to cup his crotch. I shook my head and puffed out my chest some and finally I moved off course and now for once, I stood in his way. Ashley was still talking when she paused and looked back at us, eyes widening now.
Noir looked down at me and without question, I shoved the pen and pink flower covered notebook into his chest. He didn't move of course and so I stood up on my tip toes, face inching into his. Ashley's eyes popped, her mouth dropping in utter shock.
"You want me? You better tell me what you want then or else you get nothing." I whispered aggressively yet lustfully as I was so close to his lips, letting my tongue very lightly stick out to lick over his mask. I was answered with silence and I just walked around him straightening out my blouse and joining Ashley as if nothing had happened. We both sped down the hall now, reality now sinking into me again. Oh hell what did I do!
"What the hell was that?" she asked leaning into me. I swallowed hard.
"Just look back and tell me if he ever picks up the notebook." I replied quickly. Ashley looked back, looked at me as if I was crazy, then looked back again.
"He picked it up." she replied. I tensed now. Your move.
