Chapter Thirty-One
Three days later…
It turned out that it was as they determined that Don would wake up sooner than they originally thought. Even though Don was regaining consciousness, doctors warned that he wouldn't be fully aware for couple of days, but to everyone's surprise, he was able to fully regain consciousness by the end of the day.
"Is Robin okay?" Was the first thing he asked when he noticed his wife sitting down, looking exhausted and he was worried that something was wrong
"She's fine." Alan said, smiling as he was getting excited again with their daughter being born
"More than fine, now." Robin said, getting out of the chair revealing to Don that their child had been born
"She's beautiful, Robin," Don said after being unable to say anything for a few seconds, "Did you name her Anna?"
"Yes, and she has your eyes." Robin said smiling, as she gently handed Anna to Don, who was smiling stupidly and was close to tears as he laid eyes on his newborn baby girl.
"Hey, kid, welcome to the world." Don said as he gave her a kiss on her forehead.
"Feeling better Donnie?" Charlie asked, knowingly
"Oh, yeah, much better now." Don confirmed
Merrick was still standing in the back of the room, waiting for the right moment to talk, was also smiling, and seeing the new father with his new child.
'Reminds me of when my sons were born.' Merrick thought to himself, smiling at the beautiful sight
It didn't take long for Don to notice Merrick standing there, and he knew that the man wanted to say something so he motioned for him to come over.
"Glad to see you doing well, Eppes." Merrick said before continuing, "And I have more good news for you."
That got Don's attention, as he couldn't possibly believe there would be more good news to hear about.
"Really? What is it?"
"We are hoping that you will accept the position of assistant director of the LA FBI branch, if you want it." Merrick said
"Yes, I will take it, as I now have a family to take care and, if the last few days have proved anything, it's that I would like to ensure that I can see my family live a long life and I have been considering more desk duty, thanks Merrick." Don said, having a much bigger smile now.
"Good, Eppes, no one deserves it more than you, we will see you when you are able to get released from the hospital."
Merrick then said goodbye to everyone, who were all glad that Don would be taking the role.
"Never thought I would see the day that The Agent Eppes take on more desk duty." Colby said
"Like I said Granger, I have been considering it for awhile, as I knew we were going to have a baby soon and I want to be able to be there for her when I can."
Colby smiled, as he himself has been thinking about his future of having a family and could understand what Don was talking about.
"By the way, is there anything else that I have missed?" Don asked
Everyone smiled knowingly as he doesn't let anything slip by him.
"Sure Don, there has been quite a few things we have to tell you and you will not believe what has been going on the past few days."
As Charlie proceeded to tell Don of some of the events, Alan smiled, thinking about what the next few years are going to be like.
'Despite everything with Stan, things look to be looking up.'
