I RECOMMEND READING IT ON Ao3! The formatting works so much better!

Thank you to everyone for your kind words! It is with a heavy heart that I announce the end of Rattled Bones . Although the fic was only up for a little under 2 months, it was the best two months of writing I've ever had! Seeing all the positive reception and responses really ignited my love for writing again, so thank you to all those who have read!
The sheer amount of people who have told me that this fic has helped them with their individual coping and those who say they loved the writing and Ko really brought me great happiness! I wish I could continue, but life does get in the way and I'd rather not make everyone wait months sorting myself out just to come to the same conclusion.
I've always appreciated it when authors who abandon fics still gave an outline of what would've been and how it would've ended, so I want to extend that all to you!
I've separated it into two sections: a FAQs and the story/arc outlines. I hope you enjoy and feel free to ask any other questions and I will add them to the FAQs. This is a bit jumbled and I might have forgotten a couple things so don't be afraid to ask for clarification!
I switch between Mama-san/Aika, Papa-san/Kato, and Sensei/Soney a bit. Sorry! It's also not proofread super in-depth.
One last warning: Trigger content - Sexual content implied, violence implied, suicide, and mentions of torture.
FAQs
What were the names of Papa-san, Sensei, and Mama-san? How old are they? Papa: Giovanni "Kato" Giuliani, Age: 53 Sensei: Giuseppe "Soney" Giuliani, Age: 46 Mama-san: Aika Watanabe, Age: 50 What were the quirks of Papa-san, Sensei, and Mama-san? Papa-san: Bliss and Horror Papa-san had the ability to induce comfort, but also fear. He could induce pleasure as much as pain. His quirk is 100% mental, but worked on anything organic. Downside was that he needed to either have eye-contact or physical touch for it to work. Sensei: Sensory Manipulation Sensei had the ability to manipulate the senses (all 5, but the other senses as well): Thermoception, equilibrioception, nociception, etc. Downside was that the user must have the ability to hear The sound of a bell would ring right before his quirk. If you couldn't hear the bell, his quirk wouldn't work. Mama-san: Qarinah A variation of the Succubus but in Arabic mythology. I went specifically with this variation because it is known to have an almost maniacal obsession with their victims. The obsession is to the point where they would hurt those they loved because they loved them so much. What are the relations among the three heads of the Red Light District and to it? Papa-san is the "leader". He's the end all, be all. He loves and adores his younger brother Soney. The only thing he wouldn't do for Soney is anything to jeopardize his business. Papa-san has psychopathic tendencies. Mama-san is a trusted, but replaceable ally. He'd be more annoyed that she died than sad. Sensei is Papa-san's younger brother. Soney was in charge of the male hosts and prostitutes, recruitments, and underground fight-rings. He would use "Söhnke" as a pseudonym for the owner of Galactic Affairs: a frontal business for shady activity and a haven for those in the underground. They had reached as far as Spain and Sweden (Söhnke is Swedish for Sonny), but stretched to other countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas too. He loves his older brother and puts him on a pedestal. Has sociopathic tendencies, doesn't care but Aika or anyone else (Papa-san was the only one Soney is able to build an attachment towards). Mama-san is Papa-san's "childhood friend". She had a crush on him as a young child because he saved her from some bad situations (child prostitution ring) and swore her allegiance to him. She gave Soney and Kato their names (saw them in a magazine and thought they were "cool" sounding; helped them to blend into Japan when they first arrived). She doesn't care too much about Soney beyond 'co-worker'. She wouldn't die for him, but she'd kill for him. Trivia/Backstory: Soney and Kato were both also in the Red Light District and used. Soney and Kato were both able to use their quirks to free some kids from child trafficking. Soney was just a toddler at the time and developed his quirk very early. Kato was 11 at the time and Soney was 4. They ended up in Japan during a trade from Italy. Aika was 8 when they met her (already in Japan). Kato swore he would become a hero afterwards and work hard to give Soney and Aika a good life, but disaster struck constantly. Their places were broken into and robbed (lived on the streets and squatted in some abandoned warehouses), Aika was attacked and raped, the two brothers were rejected for being foreign, stores wouldn't let them in sometimes. Even with Aika, because of her quirk, some people were afraid of her horns and called her the devil. No matter what happened though, the brothers and Aika never lost hope. They had a few encounters with some heroes that didn't help, but equally the same amount that did. Kato was still determined to become a hero. Kato finally made it into UA (a relatively new school at the time so it didn't hold the amount of prestige it does in Ko's time), but when he took the test, he only made it as far as General studies due to his mental quirks. Aika and Soney wait around, exploring, getting food, etc. while Kato goes to school. While in the General studies course, he was beaten down by his peers and those in the Hero course verbally, but never physically. He brought it up once to the teacher, but they didn't believe him so he stopped telling them. Until one day, one of the kids went too far during a joint Hero-General studies practice and cut up the side of Kato's face with his . Mad, he retaliated with his quirk. No lasting damage, but the teachers sided with the student claiming it was "an accident" and "we don't use quirks like that." Teachers tell Kato to apologize and he does, believing that it really was an accident. He goes to Recovery Girl who says it is deep and will scar. Later, Kato finds out that it was a planned "attack" by the Hero students (some racist insults coupled with jealousy at the "pretty boys"). Kato brings this up to the teachers (heroes and civilians, but all different than Ko's current staff minus Recovery Girl) one-by-one and each side with the Hero student. He later goes to the Principal, Nezu (who is very new to his job at the time) and was met with "Well, these students have such great potential and it wouldn't be right to squander it." More talking back and forth. Nezu was very logical, but Kato was enraged. It felt like everything he knew was a lie and he kept unravelling bit by bit. They have a conversation about "Villain Quirks" and Nezu is firm in his belief that there is no such thing. That is the reason why he built UA, to cultivate young aspiring heroes. Kato becomes a bit less unhinged at the thought, believing in Nezu. Finally going home to find his house broken into again with his brother Soney on the ground and Aika hiding in the closet, he came to the conclusion, "Heroes don't care..." but he remembers Nezu and strives to keep going. As days go on and he keeps going to UA, getting bullied more openly after it is revealed to the bullying students that Kato reported it but the teachers wouldn't intervene, his mind slowly starts going insane. Every time he would go straight to Nezu to report it. Nezu wouldn't expel the students, but would listen to Kato's concerns, quell them, and offer him tea. To Kato who had never known the comfort of an "is the rat an adult?" before, it was enough for Kato to "survive" to the next day. The Sports Festival rolls around and Kato takes it really far after a particular bullying session, incapacitating all Hero students whether they were kind to him or not. He does so subtly during the first two courses (a paintball/capture the flag and a team rally race) so no one notices. By the time the final round comes along (the one-on-one) Kato severely incapacitates the top performing student (his main bully) to the point that he becomes nothing more than a screaming shell of a boy. He tortures him with Horror before calming him down with Bliss, rinse and repeat until the boy loses his mind. The referee wasn't as good as Midnight at judging, so he wasn't sure how to call it until it was too late. Kato can't stop laughing as the main bully continues to writhe and foam at the mouth. The main bully is taken to Recovery Girl (who scolds Kato profusely), but Kato doesn't care and starts to laugh maniacally again. The student never recovers. This happens to two more students (a second hero student who was very kind to Kato and another neutral hero student) before Kato is pulled from the Sports Festival, warned by Recovery Girl, and expelled by Nezu. Kato, feeling betrayed; Nezu's expulsion was the straw that broke the camel's back and left Nezu with the parting words, (paraphrasing) "You heroes preach that you help people, but you don't. You only help yourselves." Going home, Kato, mind completely broken and twisted, relayed to Soney and Aika their new plan for surviving in Japan. Forget being a hero, they should just get into the business they know best. The world already thought him a villain after the Sports Festival, so why not prove them right? Soney (8yrs): "Sure, sounds like fun!" Aika (12yrs): "I don't see why you wanted to be a hero anyways. They never did anything for us." Kato (15 yrs): "No, you're right." Cut forward to scenes of Kato, Aika, and Soney each taking over the underground world. Their encounters with the Yakuza/Shie Hassaikai, their meetings with All-for-One/Shigaraki, their run-ins with All Might, their "conversion" of heroes ("It's just a good time. Come, relax. Here, you don't have to worry about being a hero."), their run-ins with the Hero Commission, and how Kato, in his late 30s, became one of the Big Three of the Underground World: (All-for-One for villainy, Yakuza's Kazuma for organized crime, and Kato for the Red Light District). In the run-in with the Hero Commission, some scenes show that Kato is allowed to run "Home" in anyway that he pleases. After years, analyzing how the shadier heroes reacted to Home ("why commit a crime, rape, etc. and lose your hero's license, when you can go to Home, let out your frustrations and come out scotfree? [Home catered to all kinds of sexual frustrations and fetishes (refer back to the electromagnetic stimulation from previous chapters)]). All these events happened before All Might was "a thing" (BNHA is not specific on it, but it seems that All Might became they Symbol of Peace around his mid 20s to early 30s and the show references how times before that in Japan were very tumultuous). When All Might became the Symbol of Peace and started to crack down on All-for-One and the Yakuza, the Hero Commission would protect Kato's area for reasons stated above. So long as Kato kept his actions in Home (and they worked in accordance with Japan's current regulations on the sex industry), they were willing to overlook a lot. Everything was going fine up until Kato's late 30s when he saw Principal Nezu give a speech about UA (coupled with All Might). Something like: "UA is a school where we mold young aspiring heroes to be the best they can be!" Something about being able to save more people, be upstanding, etc. This makes Kato's blood boil remembering everything that he had to go through during UA, the inattentive teachers, the "lying rat", his disillusionment with being a hero, and just his general knowledge of the heroes that come to visit his Home. After All Might gives out the line that says something along the lines of "We will save everyone we can, those we can't, we will shape the next generation to do it in our place! Never fear, because I am here!" Kato says something along the lines of "We'll see about that." Laughing maniacally. Throughout the years, Kato has had people who have backstabbed him and attempted to take his position. Loyalty was the most important thing to Kato. "Dead people don't pay well" is his slogan so he rarely killed anyone. "Those who betray are given a fate worse than death." How did Ko end up working for the Red Light District (Backstory)? Like Eri, she was born into the environment. Her father is an unknown customer and her mother was a prostitute. Papa-san provided extra incentives (extra time off, comfy accommodations, etc. [more flies with honey than vinegar]) during a specific time to the female workers if they had children. There was a selection process around the time that she was born where all toddlers and young children were put through a series of tests and training led by Sensei. They weeded out the weak by disposing of them and kept the strong. (implied a number of over 40) Of them all, only Ko survived due to her taking the brainwashing the best. Some of the others got wise and tried rebelling, others were too weak and died off, some committed suicide. Selection process included copious amounts of physical, psychological, and mental torture. On Sensei's "bad days" he would kill off kids at random who would get a question or two wrong. Ko learned from this that she always needed to have "the appropriate response". On Mama-san's "bad days" she would kill off kids who she didn't think were "cute" or "happy" enough. Ko learned how to smile under any situation and "bounce walk". One kid went through physical torture for calling Mama-san "ma'am", so Ko learned to never use ma'am when addressing older women. Papa-san would never kill any of the kids, but he had severe punishments for those who would ask questions when they weren't asked. "Children are meant to be seen not heard, speak only when spoken to" happened a lot. He would make sure they obeyed manners. Drilled in the idea if you were going to do something, do it right. One test was among Ko and two other children (Ko was 6, the other two children were 9 and 11). To prove their love to Papa-san, the children had to kill their mothers. All were given a knife as the mothers were tied down. Twist: Mothers were told that they were able to have their entire debts paid off and 'escape' the Red Light district if they were good to the kids for 7 months. After one month, the children were told to kill their mothers. (Papa-san didn't lie; "You didn't take care of the kids for 6 months, it's only been one month") One (11) child couldn't. Saw her mother as her mother and refused. Killed by Sensei, then mother was thrown back into Red Light District ("You didn't take care of the kids for 7 months like agreed."). Mother was a young 21. Mother is later revealed to be Kairi-nee. One (9) child hesitated. Killed the mother by slitting her throat, but Sensei killed the child due to hesitance. "You don't hesitate for those you love." Ko didn't hesitate after seeing the results of the other two kids, but Mother moved and got nicked instead. As Ko went again, Papa-san stopped her and asked the Mother what she thought about Ko ("Would you sacrifice yourself for your daughter?"). Part of Papa-san's plans to further brainwash Ko. Mother talks to Ko and calls her a monster. Tells Ko she never loved her and Ko was a means to an end. She would've gladly have abandoned Ko if that meant she could escape and live her life free. Something snaps inside of Ko that activates her quirk. Her mother's body writhes in pain as the bones twist and contort, causing her body to pretzel-up violently. A slow and painful death. Mother continues to die, Sensei tells Ko about "Double-tap" which Ko does to ensure her mother dies. Her mother was the first and only person to die by her quirk. Papa-san is impressed. After some debate, they figured Ko was good enough. Young enough to be brainwashed and controlled (Papa-san's reason), strong quirk (Sensei's reason), and cute (Mama-san's reason). Sensei: "What do we call her?", Like naming a puppy, Mama-san: "Aiko! My little love child. I'm going to enjoy her. She'll be my little devil.", Papa-san, "Ko is fine." Papa-san didn't want to add the 'love' part; there was no love for this child. (The last name "Myoji" was just added to be a placeholder during UA. Papa-san didn't care what it was, Sensei was too lazy to fix it) Ko's Quirk Ko's quirk is labelled as Bone Manipulation, but is better defined as Calcium Manipulation. She can protrude the bones from her body, but it's a result of pumping added doses of calcium into them. To a lesser extent, she can "feel" the bones around her (she knows where they are and can use them as a way to "detect" people in the dark). Calcium heavy foods like sardines and tofu fortify her quirk. True, unbridled anger allows Ko to manipulate the calcium content in others, but only at short distances. She can identify anyone by their teeth. "All teeth have a specific shape and feel to them...it's like fingerprints in your mouth." Juan-Esteban (Juan-nii) A man who was just supposed to teach Ko (like her other Senseis in the past), but he develops an attachment. Spanish Dealing with broken bones and physical pain He's from Spain. It takes a while but he warms up to her. He takes her to festivals where she sees Pinwheels, Keroppi, eats cotton candy. His quirk is a mutation and he has features of a Lammergeier. There was going to be a scene where he takes a bite of her collarbone during training to see if it would grow back. He introduces her to Tintin, shows her the stories and makes her question her position. He never outright says it, but he plants little hints here and there that the life she's living is not normal. He does this by showing her that Tintin, in the books, gets to go on wild adventures, smile naturally, and have fun. He gives her Mutton to show her that Mama-san has horns (which made her the devil to the eyes of the people of Home), but that other things had horns too that weren't scary (like Rams/sheep). After Ko says the wrong responses and asks Sensei and Papa-san about the things that Juan-Esteban taught her, everything goes downhill. Papa-san finds Juan-Esteban's family and extended family, tortures and kills them in front of him in very gruesome ways, "And to think you'd betray me, tch." What Juan-Esteban did that was worse than "stealing" the girls away was that he "planted" ideas on Ko's head that made her think contrary to what Papa-san said. To make her care/love anyone other than Papa-san unconditionally. He makes Juan-Esteban tell Ko that Juan-Esteban doesn't love her and "fixes" Ko with the promise that he'll let Juan-Esteban's actual daughters (3 of them) live. He agrees, shattering Ko's spirit and making her snap. With an order from Papa-san, Juan-Esteban's three daughters are Ko's quirk's 2nd-4th victims. "I said I would let them live, I didn't say anything about her." Juan-Esteban is tormented and tortured by Papa-san's quirk and Ko doesn't hear from him again.
Outline of Arcs
USJ Arc Ko goes to the teacher's lounge and sees Mr. Aizawa. Ko goes up to Mr. Aizawa They both make their way over to the Intervention Couch 'Do you know why you're here?' "You want to give my guardians paperwork?" = you heard about that huh? = yea from Shinsou Other teachers look over with a 'Really Sho?' "No, that's not why you're here, we noticed writing issues." "I'm fixing it, I promise" Don't have to 'fix' it. I looked up some accommodations while we're having your recommendation moved through. "Recommendation?" Some explanation about Hound Dog for assessment. Ko begrudgingly accepts the accommodations that the teachers will be giving her as a result of her disability (She will be allowed to use a recording device given to her by Nezu to "take essays" and "take notes" during class, will be allowed extra time during lunch/after school to finish tests if needed, and larger assignments will be given to her earlier to give her extra time. Given a template for headers (Name and Date) Aizawa said he'll look into getting her other writing tools (thicker pencils, pens, etc.) to see which she feels more comfortable writing with. She thanks him and moves on and is about to go to lunch. Emergency bell rings, triggers her and she collapses on the floor (hands on head, smile wide). Other teachers go to check out what happened. Aizawa stays with Ko to calm her down.
(from here the outline is much more vague since I typically write as I go and had basic ideas without too much detail.)
USJ event happens Ko is recognized by a good chunk of the villains. "Isn't that the Warden?!" "The hell is she doing here?!" "Kato's gonna kill us." Kurogiri teleports her next to Aizawa when Aizawa jumped down (Kurogiri: "So you're the Warden?") Ko swims in the "void of Kurogiri" for a bit before being spit out. Some fight stuff, suspicion stuff with Aizawa leading to more investigation. After the USJ event Some more fluff with Shinsou Some more fluff with the Big Three Reschedule lunch date Ko is brought in for questioning with Detective Tsukauchi in Nezu's office with Aizawa. Only information they could get from her is that she gets "hit from time to time". Ko tells them she knows the Nomu "It's made up of Lips, Chin, and Dirty" Not understanding who or what she was talking about, Ko informed them that she knew who the three people who made up the Nomu were based on their teeth. Some more information and it was enough to launch an investigation (For Ko and for the Nomu) on the end of the teachers. They launch it, but there isn't anyone willing to take on the case and the teachers can't fathom why. Even most of Tsukauchi's people and associates refused to take on the case. Teachers all launch their own investigations as heroes on their own time (there was supposed to be a chapter dedicated to each teacher's efforts) but they all come up fruitless. Sports Festival Papa-san makes a bet with some other people on Ko's placement (3rd). Ko fails due to newfound passion to be a hero after a long conversation and lots of smaller events leading up to it (Shinsou and The Big Three inspired). Consequences are bad enough for Ko that she's missing from school for weeks, missing her internship. Teachers see this as an opportunity to "keep" her for a week for make-up internships. Some stuff happens, Kato allows it. The Finals Exam Arc This is where there is more solidifying of Ko's want to be a hero, where a lot of fluff was meant to be. Eventual lead up to adoption happens in this arc. Forest Training Arc Ko is kidnapped along with Bakugo Shigaraki doesn't like her (All-for-One talks about her often, jealousy). Tries to use her to "take over" Kato. "Papa-san doesn't love me. If you kill me I'll just be replaced with another one." Bakugo hears, what the hell, goes through his mind. Adoption happens this arc (but it is a part of Papa-san's plan) Supposed to have some hints to Nezu that the person who took care of Ko was Kato. Shinsou shows a lot of concern, something Ko wasn't used to and it makes her happy. Same with the Big Three. Kato and Aika had been "selling" their poorer performing workers to All-for-One to be turned into Nomus. "Recuperate most of their debt, they'll take forever at this rate." Shie Hassaikai Arc Shinsou and Ko are placed in Work Studies with the Big Three (part of a Big Brother/Little Brother program for at-promise students UA is trying out). Ko calls Shinsou her brother. Real reason is Nezu knows Nighteye is investigating the Yakuza and informs Nighteye to keep an eye on Ko and her reaction. Shinsou was roped in and placed with Tamaki to make the cover story more believable. Some stuff with Eri, Kato shows up again and has Ko pick. At first she picks saving Kato but switches over to saving Eri.
(From here I was going to continue to follow the rest of the anime, but since most of it hasn't updated there wasn't much else I could do.)
Until the end of the anime or until it felt natural I was going to end the fic there then add a time-skipped epilogue.
It was going to include the following:
Ko after her recovery with Aizawa, Hizashi, Shinsou, and Eri living their lives 15 years in the future. She loves her family and visits frequently, still ever the cuddlebug even in her 30s. At this point, Home still exists, but she's free from its binds. With Mama-san, Papa-san, and Sensei gone, it is now run by a more reasonable person. It's still not the best place and riddled with crime, but it is far from the hell-hole it once was. Ko also visits Home frequently, helping out where she can. Finding girls like Comb Ko is a hero and has flashbacks and panic attacks at times, but she learns to cope and manage it. Her hero name is Humerus (she wants to bring a smile to everyone's face instead of fear like when she was the Warden). The final scene has it to where she learns of Juan-Esteban's wearabouts and makes a journey to go see him. She navigates through Spain with an older Shinsou (the two were partners in hero-ing) until she finds him in an old hut, aged beyond his years and blind. He asks, "Who's there?" She doesn't answer him. Instead, she takes Mutton, old and tattered from over 20+ years. She still found comfort in Mutton and wore him on her back constantly (despite being an underground hero, that was so notable that there was merchandise made of it. Her costume had become a lot more modest with the inclusion of proper support material.) She places Mutton on his lap and whispers a quiet, "Hey Juan-nii." "Ko?!" He said in a hushed whisper. She smiled softly, a real smile that she was able to give after having such good things and memories happen to her these past 15 years, "I want you to meet my brother."
And end!
Thank you again to everyone who supported! If you have any further questions please let me know (especially if I missed something I can update this). I hope this provided everyone the closure that they needed.
This isn't the last fic that I will put out! But this is the end of this fic for me.
I hope you all have a fantastic day and a wonderful evening.
