Damian Wayne was walking down a street on a pleasant morning in Musutafu. Last night he had been really bothered by his research on All Might's quirk. No records of what it exactly was, and to top it all off, the suspicious behavior Izuku Midoriya had been showing.
Damian was on his way towards Izuku's apartment, to ask a few questions regarding his quirk. And he hoped to get to the bottom of everything on his mind, he was the son of the world's greatest detective, after all.
The boy walked past many people on his way to Izuku's apartment, some of them were completely normal looking, while others looked like literal mutants. Despite his good amount of time here, he did not get accustomed to people with mutant quirks yet.
As he continued walking down the street, he suddenly noticed someone he instantly recognized in the distance, it was Shoto Todoroki.
Shoto was completely unaware of Damian's presence nearby, he had both of his hands in his pockets, and was enough aware of his surroundings to not bump into someone. The bicolored male seemed lost in thought.
Damian observed Shoto from the other side of the street. He was not expecting to encounter him on his way to Izuku's apartment. But he figured that it would not hurt to see what he was up to. He was not in a rush, so there was enough time.
Damian started following the bicolored male, crossing the street to the side Shoto was on. Damian would keep his distance, just in case. He also had his hood on, so when Shoto would look behind him, he would not recognize Damian at first glance.
Shoto would make his way to the Musutafu central park. There were not that many civilians around in the park for some odd reason, the majority of the civilians must be staying at home due to Scarecrow's attack last night. No one knows what could happen in the next few days.
Shoto would walk off the path in the park, through some bushes. He eventually found himself at the edge of the Musutafu Park Lake, the lake was not that big, but certainly enjoyable.
The bicolored male sat at a bench, letting out a small sigh before closing his eyes. It really seemed like he was lost in thought for some reason.
Damian was hidden behind a bush, as he observed Shoto sitting down on the bench and thinking to himself. It was obvious that Shoto was thinking about something, and by the look on his face, he was not too comfortable with the thoughts.
Damian tried to move his leg a bit more to the right, but accidentally stepped on a branch, which would let out a loud cracking sound. "Shit" Damian thought to himself as he suddenly realized that he had stepped on a branch.
Shoto instantly turned his head towards the bush as he heard the branch cracking, snapping him out of his thoughts. "Who is there?" He said in a calm, but yet intimidating tone.
Damian knew that there was no use in hiding anymore, now that he had revealed his presence. "Seems like I should work more on my stealth in woody areas." Damian said as he then stood up from his crouching position, revealing himself to Shoto.
"Wayne?" Shoto said as he looked over at the raven-haired male, he was quite surprised to see him here. "What are you doing here?" He said, his tone now changing back to his usual calm but yet intimidating one.
"I was walking through the streets and saw you lost in thought, so I got curious and followed you here." Damian replied.
Shoto grunted a bit, he did not like people invading his privacy at all, but then again, he got a bit interested in Damian after finding out that he was quirkless, but yet was pretty strong. Maybe he could use this chance to find out more about him and his skills.
"So I was wondering, from the look on your face, you seem to be bothered by something. May I ask what it is about?" Damian said, getting a bit closer to the bicolored male.
Shoto let out a low sigh and turned to look towards the lake "I just don't get it...A man, who does not have any quirk at all...Came the closest to destroying the city than any other villain." Shoto said.
"So that's what this is about." Damian thought to himself. He and his father knew that the news of Scarecrow being powerless may have a significant impact on the hero society of this universe.
"How...How could this have happened? It was always said that you cannot become a hero without a quirk, or that it would be difficult to be a quirkless criminal. But now suddenly, out of the blue, a quirkless man became the most dangerous villain the entire city has ever seen." Shoto said, thinking out loud.
"Having no powers, does not mean someone is powerless to do anything." Damian said as he then sat on the bench, next to Shoto.
Shoto listened closely to what he had to say, having no quirk does not mean someone is powerless...But in the hero society, it was always the opposite. "But what about you?" Shoto said, turning his head to look at him.
Damian also turned his head to look at Shoto. "What about me?" He asked.
"You are quirkless...But somehow you managed to get into the UA Hero Course, something everyone deemed impossible. You have shown to be more powerful than some of our classmates, and during the USJ Attack, you showed everyone even more of your strength. You managed to beat five villains all by yourself in an area. What is the secret to your strength?" Shoto asked.
Damian thought about it for a second, he obviously could not reveal anything about his true origin, and he was gonna attempt to make something up. "The secret is...Determination. When I was younger I always looked up to heroes, and could not wait to get a quirk later on. But unfortunately, I was diagnosed as quirkless...At that point, anyone would have given up on their dreams." Damian explained.
Shoto continued carefully listening to Damian's story, which obviously fascinated him. If he was suddenly diagnosed as quirkless, all his hopes would have been crushed, but something kept Damian going.
"Everyone kept saying that you could not be a hero without some form of quirk. But I wanted to prove them wrong, I wanted to prove to anyone that a quirkless person could be as, if not more powerful than their quirk counterpart." Damian explained.
"Martial Arts alone would not be enough to beat villains with quirks." Shoto commented.
Damian slightly nodded "And you are correct. The key to everything is Strategy. Knowing your enemy, and their weaknesses. No matter how powerful you are, you will always have a weakness, and it is up to me to exploit that weakness." Damian replied.
"Strategy..." Shoto mumbled. He did of course think that strategy was something everyone needed to use, but he never thought about it being this important. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense.
"Back there at the USJ Facility when I fought those five criminals, I easily figured out how to use their own quirks against them by adapting to my surroundings. The brain will always be more powerful than anything else on the planet." Damian commented, looking over at Shoto again.
At this moment, it all clicked together for Shoto. "So that is how..." He said looking up. What Damian said actually made a lot of sense, and he gave him a new perspective on strategy, and just how important it can be.
"That is how the Scarecrow managed to pull all of this off. It did not matter at all if he had a quirk or not, what really mattered was his strategy. It was genius, stealing the identity of another guard to infiltrate, shut everything down, and take over." Shoto said once more. He also wondered how no other villains tried something out like that, poisoning the water supply.
"I have to say...I am impressed, Wayne. You managed to prove the impossible, and gave me a new perspective on things." Shoto said.
"It is nothing, of course without all of my martial art skills and gadgets, I may not even be here right now. The brain will always triumph over the muscles." He said once more.
Shoto listened to his response but then got a little idea. "That may be true...But what I would also like to see, is how you could keep up with me." Shoto said, standing up.
"Keep Up? Hmph, I have a feeling that you are referring to a sparring match." Damian said, locking eyes with Shoto.
"Indeed, I am fairly curious to see how you would avoid my ice attacks. No offense, but I have a feeling that even you would not be able to counter my attacks. You may have strategy on your side, but that will not do you much when facing off against me, face to face." Shoto said. His ice ability was fairly powerful, and he had a strong feeling that Damian would not be able to defeat him in a match at all, even with all his fancy gadgets.
Damian just smirked a bit, in fact, he was also interested to see how he would do against the son of the number 2. hero. He always liked to go against stronger foes. "I am also curious to see what you are also made of, Ice boy...Try and not get cocky and underestimating me, because that will be your downfall." Damian said, crossing his arms.
Shoto did not seem to mind those comments Damian made about him. "Very Well then...If luck is on your side, we may have that chance at the festival. But even if you make it, try and not get your hopes up, because you will last no more than thirty seconds." Shoto said as he then turned around, and started slowly walking away.
"Festival? What does he mean by that?" Damian mumbled to himself, as he observed Shoto Todoroki leaving. He did not expect this encounter to go this smoothly considering the cold personality Shoto has. But he was also glad to hear that they were going to have a match against each other in the future, and Damian was going to do everything in his power to try and defeat him.
But Damian did not need to waste any more time, he still remembered his original purpose for going out in the first place, talking to Midoriya about the possible connection between his Power, as well as the one All Might has.
Damian got back on the path of the park, eventually exiting it and continuing to make his way towards the apartment complex Midoriya lives at. There was no doubt that something mysterious is going on, and he will get to the bottom of it no matter what.
Later
After about an hour of walking, Damian finally stood in front of the apartment complex Midoriya was residing in. He did not plan on pushing Midoriya too far with his questioning, and if he did he would try even harder to hide whatever he was hiding.
Damian entered the apartment complex and started going up the stairs, all the while formulating his approach to Midoriya, how he was going to question him, and so on.
Not long after, he found himself in front of Izuku's apartment door. This was it, now it was finally time to see what he is hiding and if his suspicions are correct or false.
He raised up his fist and knocked on the wooden door of the apartment, as he then took off the hood from his head. He waited for a few seconds before hearing footsteps coming closer from the other side of the door.
Izuku Midoriya opened up the door, to see Damian standing right in front of him. "W-Wayne?!" Izuku said in a surprised tone. "What are you doing here?" He asked. One of the last things he would have expected after opening the door was seeing one of his classmates.
"I came to check in on you and see how you are feeling. You got hurt pretty badly at the USJ Facility." Damian said looking over at Izuku's bandaged arm, as well as a few plasters here and there.
Izuku just let out a small laugh, as he rubbed the back of his head. "That is very nice of you, Wayne. I am feeling a lot better, and my wounds should be healed up after a few more days." Izuku said.
"That is good to hear." Damian said tilting his head a little bit, and maintaining eye contact with Izuku "You mind if I come in?" Damian requested.
"O-Of course! My mother is out shopping, so you came at the perfect moment!" Izuku said as he stepped out of the way, allowing Damian to enter his apartment.
Damian entered Izuku's apartment casually, taking off his shoes at the entrance. He looked around a bit in the main hallway, the apartment did not look bad, but it was still pretty small for his liking "Not a bad place you have here." Damian said.
"Thanks! It's not the best, but I'm happy to call it home." Izuku replied as he then walked up towards the living room of his apartment, hoping that Damian would follow him.
Damian casually followed Izuku to his living room, and he instantly noticed something on the TV. It was footage of the exact moment the Police Cameras spotted him and his father on the rooftop of the water facility.
Izuku noticed how Damian was glancing over at the TV. "That incident has everyone shocked. I remember when I and my mother were watching the news live in the morning, and when it was revealed that Scarecrow was actually quirkless. We were in shock, and my mother was actually in tears. A quirkless man almost destroying the city." Izuku commented.
Damian noticed how Izuku had an upset look on his face. It seems like he is overly interested in Scarecrow's operation, and he can understand why. "What matters now is that Scarecrow is behind bars." Damian replied.
"Yes, and I am relieved for that. But what most interests me are those two figures caught on the rooftop. No one has ever seen them before, and they quickly vanished after being spotted." Izuku stated.
"Who knows? Those are probably just some vigilantes from the area, who happened to suddenly stumble upon Scarecrow." Damian said as he then sat down on the couch. He noticed the open notebook on the coffee table, it had sketches of him and his father in their suits, but some details were lacking.
"I don't think so. It is too convenient to be a coincidence, I believe these two figures have some sort of connection to the Scarecrow. They saved us all from doom, and I refuse to believe that they are not connected somehow." Izuku stated, as he then looked over at Damian.
Damian lightly smirked as he heard Izuku's statement "Not bad..." he thought to himself. "Either way, connected or not, they are gone for now and we don't know if we will ever see them again." Damian said.
Izuku just sighed at Damian's response, this was probably the only time he would see these two figures. "I still sincerely hope we see them again, there is so much we don't know about them yet." Izuku said as he then sat next to Damian.
Damian decided that it was finally time to reveal the million-dollar question, and see how Midoriya would react to it. "I want to ask you something about the incident back at the USJ, if that is fine." Damian said.
"The USJ? Sure, but I don't know much about the attack that much." Izuku replied, looking over at Damian.
"When those criminals escaped after other heroes got on the scene, I rushed over to help you and see how All Might was. But for some reason, you tried to stop me, why is that?" He asked.
Izuku quickly got nervous about that question, and it was obviously visible that he was a bit uncomfortable due to his facial expressions. "W-Well...All Might was covered in a lot of blood, and blood was still coming out. I thought that you may be squeamish, and so that is why I stopped you." Izuku replied. He obviously knew this was a stupid response, but at the moment he could not come up with anything better.
"Wow...Is that really the best you can come up with?" Damian thought to himself as he heard Izuku's answer. "Alright, time to go a little bit further." he thought to himself again.
"That sounds plausible. But why did Cementos block my view as well?" Damian asked.
"Well, he probably did not want you to see All Might in his brutally hurt state." Izuku responded, he just hoped that Damian was not going to push this any further.
"Cementos came from the back, and from the back, you could not see All Might due to all of the smoke, so he could not know he was brutally injured." Damian said, countering Izuku's response.
Izuku was mentally screaming in his mind, and was starting to sweat. He was not prepared at all for this line of questioning. "L-Look Wayne, I-I don't know, honestly! Y-You can ask Cementos when we get back to UA." Izuku said. He was drawing a total blank, and could not come up with anything.
"There it is, he ran out of excuses. He is definitely hiding something." Damian thought to himself, observing how Izuku was sweating, along with his sudden stuttering.
"Yeah, I guess you are right. Perhaps I am just overthinking things." Damian responded. Now that he knows for sure that Izuku is hiding something, it was time for the next phase.
Izuku let out a huge sigh of relief after hearing Damian's response. He felt like he just dodged a bullet, and he was not sure what he was going to do if Damian kept pressing him on the issue.
Now that Damian finally got what he came for, it was time for him to return to the Manor. "Well It's been fun Midoriya, but I sadly have to go." Damian said as he stood up from the couch.
"You are leaving already? But you just got here like ten minutes ago." Izuku said, watching as Damian stood up from the couch.
"Yes, I still have some business to do. And I came here just to check in on you and see how you are doing." Damian said as he then started making his way towards the door.
"Alright, if you so wish." Izuku said as he also stood up from the couch, to see him off.
Damian opened the door to Izuku's apartment, and put on his shoes before looking over at Izuku again. "Goodbye Midoriya, see you around." Damian said as he then started walking away.
"Goodbye...Wayne." Izuku said as he observed Damian walking off. But he still could not shake off the thought that Damian was onto him, and he had to tell All Might about it as soon as he could.
Later That Night
Bruce Wayne was in the living room of the manor, sipping some coffee that he made not too long ago. He was going to watch the late-night news, because he and the President finally made up their minds on the reveal. It was time for Musutafu to finally find out about Batman and Robin.
A couple of minutes later, the news finally came on. "Welcome to the Musutafu Late Night News! Just recently we have gotten critical information about the two figures spotted on the rooftop of the water facility." The newswoman commented.
"The HPSC has confirmed that the two figures are called Batman and Robin, who are pro-heroes from the United States. It was also revealed that the Scarecrow was part of a large villain group that recently arrived in Musutafu, and that Batman and Robin are trying to hunt them down."
Meanwhile
"The HPSC has stated that they will work closely with Batman and Robin to root out these foreign villains, and that the Scarecrow was only the start." The newswoman stated.
Hugo Strange was listening closely to the news. He raises up his hand, smashing it down at his table "So...You actually made it." Hugo said in an annoyed tone.
A key part of him bringing Batman and Robin here was that they would get crushed by the many heroes and the state's law on Vigilantes. But now, that whole plan just went up in flames.
"No Matter..." Hugo Strange said as he then straightened himself up. They could not stop now, Batman may have the Hero Public Safety Commission on his side, but that does not mean he will succeed.
"So the Bat managed to get the law on his side, I have to say...I am quite impressed." A voice said behind Hugo Strange.
"It would seem so, Mr. Nigma. We are close to a breakthrough, so we can't give up." Strange said as he turned around, walking up to a monitor from which Riddler was talking to him.
Strange picked up some sort of prototype from his desk, which looked like a ball with a small propeller on his head, with some spikes at the bottom. "Tell me, how is Project Ikarus going?" He said, looking down at the prototype.
"Building those things is not the problem, Strange. But it is it's the heart that we need. If your theory proves to be true, Project Ikarus may lead to the downfall of this hero society, and leave them all humiliated." Riddler replied.
Strange glanced down at the prototype of Ikarus again, before looking back up. "It has been proven that it is possible to extract quirks from DNA, I have worked day and night perfecting the formula for Death Arm's quirk, and extracting it from his DNA. I am close to perfecting it." Strange replied.
"That is a good sign. I require the serum so that Ikarus can succeed, and then we will move on into the testing phase." Riddler said.
Strange turned around. "I have already sent Clayface to get the blood sample of the person needed for Project Ikarus. I will have that person's blood sample in a few hours, then I will move onto making the serum." Strange replied.
"Oh? Who is Clayface going after at this moment?" Riddler asked.
Strange looked up once more, with a small smirk on his face.
"The hero known as Eraserhead, Shota Aizawa. His blood is the key to Project Ikarus."
