November Prompt I - Skydiving

I have a terrible fear of heights, so I really felt for Nick here. XD

"How on earth did you get me to agree to this, Carrots."

Judy chuckled wryly, gently elbowing her partner. "We're not on earth anymore, that's how."

"Right..." Nick deadpanned as he again looked out the window of the small plane. "Why are we jumping out of a perfectly good plane? I know you're in a rush to get back down there and fight some injustice, but, this is a little extreme."

Judy pointed towards another fox and rabbit couple nearer to the open door of the aircraft. "They wanted to, and as such you wanted to show your foxiness and also go skydiving since Zieg over there agreed." Nick, watching the other couple, was regretting his decision to show his 'foxiness' off, as apparently an affinity for heights was not in either fox's vocabulary.

It didn't matter though, as a thumbs up sign came from the front of the plane. "You're good to go!" a jovial marmot stated, grinning at the white eared tipped fox and tan bunny.

Zieg gulped. "Can't we have just another minute or twoooooooooaahhhhhhhHHHHH!"

The fox's screams disappeared outside the plane as Oce grabbed his paw, and with him in tow, leapt from the plane with an excited grin.

Nick looked down at Judy.

Judy grinned back at Nick.

Several moments of silence passed between them.

"I think I'll pass on this."

"Too late!" Judy exclaimed, as a second thumbs up appeared. Judy marched towards the open door, Nick in tow as the pair had agreed to tandem dive for their first try.

"Carrots. Idon'tthinkthisisagoodideayou'regoingtokillusrabbbiiiiittttttttttt!"

With a powerful leap, Judy flew out the door of the plane, whooping and hollering with glee as the fox behind her screamed like a kit. The two plunged through the sky, briefly disappearing through a layer of clouds before puffing through the other side.

"Isn't this fun?" Judy yelled over the rushing air. Nick dared not open his mouth, his eyes wide in fright as they descended quickly towards the ground. Instead, the fox shook his head, tears flung behind them at terminal velocity.

"Nick?"

Judy craned her neck around to look at her mate, only to see the petrified look upon his face. "Nick, you got this. We can pull the chute now. Only you can reach it so pull."

Judy suddenly had an icy feeling welling in her gut.

Her mate was petrified in terror as they grew closer and closer to the ground.

"Nick, pull the chute. You can do this!"

Nick's paw moved towards the ripcord, grabbed it, but a sudden jerk to the side from a gust of wind froze his paw on the spot.

"Nick!"

Seeing his wide eyed, fearful expression, Judy knew there was only one way to break him from this spell. Reaching behind her and up, she pulled down on his muzzle, and planted a kiss against his lips.

Time stood still.

Nick's fearful gaze slowly thawed, melting until he fell deeper into the kiss; only for Judy to pull away. He tilted his head in confusion, blinking several times as the bunny smiled up at him.

"Nick, pull the ripcord and when we get on the ground you'll get another kis-"

Nick's paw had never moved faster in his life. Before Judy could even finish her promise, Nick had pulled the cord and the two mammals felt themselves yanked backwards and up, before the parachute began its work of slowly descending them towards the ground. The parachute glided expertly towards a large 'x' in a field, seemingly at the paws of an experienced parachutist with Nick guiding them down. A look of concentration like none other expressed itself in his features until they reached the landing zone, Nick landing first and gently jogging them to a stop.

The parachute behind them hadn't even fluttered to the ground before Nick's lips were on Judy's, the pair sharing an intense kiss, fueled by adrenaline, spiked by a dash of fear and powered by love.

They separated, breathing heavily and huskily. "Judy," Nick began. "If you want to do this again, you better make that promise every time."

Judy smiled. Hearing pawsteps approaching, the pair saw an arctic vixen jogging towards them. "Skye?"

"Yeah Judy?"

"When Marmotini lands, can we do this again?"

Skye blinked. She remembered how terrified the her friend since high school, Nick, had been of even stepping paw in the plane. Yet here he stood with a smirk and an aura of determination she hadn't seen in him in a long time. "Uh, sure. Marmotini should be landing in a few, and once we get the plane gassed up and a new parachute packed for you two."

Nick looked down at Judy. "You're promise still stands, right?"

She nodded.

"Good!" Nick replied quickly. "Skye, can we book you the rest of today?"
