Hi guys! Thanks a ton to all you lovely people, who read, review, and favorite my story. I can never thank, you guys, enough.
Special thanks to my beta, Frannie (Fran S. Flower), and pre-reader, Angela (AngelaAbbot) for being the driving force behind 'Wreckage'. You both are awesome!
Chapter 34
'My love,
I know you feel heavy-
your heart is the Sun
and you carry the sea;
It is not so easy being your own Universe,
it is not easy to carry the stars
in a world full of darkness.'
-S. Ajna
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For hurting your mom."
Misery held hands with hopelessness and stood sentry to her haunted prison. Yet, there was no mistaking her resolve to chase the bitter end.
"I'll understand if you don't want me to live here anymore."
"I once severed Esme's arm." An alto voice held off the stampede of his panicked thoughts.
"I hurt Carlisle and Edward pretty badly too."
"Rosalie, what …?"
"Please, Edward. She needs it." 'Trust me …'
Wary apprehension probed blazing determination, then something unidentifiable did away with his objections.
And so began the tale of betrayal that marked Rosalie's entry into immortality. Couched though it was to soften the blow and not trigger another episode, her pain and fury were plain to see.
"I could feel their hands on me for years … Like … like a taint … like maggots crawling all over me, never going away, never letting me breathe, never letting me live." Nails bit into palms and clawed at an arm as if to carve out every remembrance from the very bones.
"I used to get them too, panic attacks. And with my vampiric strength, they were deadly. And one day, everything came to a head. It was a misstep, really—a classic case of wrong place and wrong time. Esme was too close and I, too far gone and then … Then Carlisle was there and Edward. Between them, they managed to push Esme away and subdue me, but they weren't fast enough." A ragged gasp tore through her mouth as she recollected the destruction she had wrought; the guilt she still carried.
"I hurt them, Bella. I tore them up in a bid to escape my demons, so much so that I still struggle to make peace with what I did to my family that day. Yet, was it really my fault that I was that way?"
Defiance waged a fiery war on the torment of her memories as Rosalie met Isabella's stunned gaze with a steely war cry.
"The answer is, NO."
So, what do you think of this chapter and Rosalie's intervention? Please let me know your thoughts.
We are now only six chapters away from finishing Wreckage, including the Epilogue. The next chapter will be up on Wednesday.
Until next time!
Love,
Ansha
