Chapter 16, Awakening.
Chamber of sages.
"Wake up" said a voice that Link could barely hear, "Link wake up, it is time" said the voice again this time a little clearer, "Link wake up, we don't have much time" said the voice this time Link heard the voice very clearly.
Link slowly opened his eyes, they felt heavy as if he hadn't opened them for a long time, as soon as his eyes was open Link was blinded by a bright light, once his eyes adjusted to the light he was able to see where he was.
Link was in a strange place, he was standing on a round floating platform that had six symbols on it, one yellow, one green, one red, one blue, one purple and one brown, everywhere else that Link looked all he could see was a strange space like void, Link had no idea where he was but he could feel a strong mystical power here.
"Link you must save Hyrule" said the voice that had awoken Link, Link looked around but saw no one, suddenly there was a flash of light and then there was an old man standing on the yellow symbol, this old man was wearing orange robes that despite being in good condition looked as if they was made many, many years ago.
"Link I am the sage of light Rauru, I have been waiting for you to awaken" said the old man, "What are you talking about" asked Link however he was immediately shocked by his own voice, it sounded different, it sounded deeper.
"Link this may be a shock to you, but look at yourself" said Rauru, Link did as he was told and he saw that his entire body was different, he was now much taller and he felt more muscular.
Link began to hyperventilate he had no idea what was going on, it was obvious that he was now older but he didn't understand how that was possible, Kokiri wasn't supposed to grow up so why had he.
"Link, I know that you are confused, but please calm down and I will explain" said Rauru, "What, but how, I shouldn't be, I mean I can't" said Link while taking deep breaths in an attempt to calm himself.
"Link allow me to tell you a story, I think that it may help you too understand" said Rauru, Link calmed down a little and listened to what Rauru had to say.
"As you already now, there was a terrible war in Hyrule many years ago" said Rauru, Link nodded he had already heard about this story.
"During the time of this war there lived a small family, a husband, a wife and their newly born child" said Rauru continuing the story, "The man was a knight and he fought in many of the wars battles, that was until the day that he was tragically killed in battle".
"The woman was now alone to raise the child by herself, however tragedy soon struck again, during the final days of the war she and her baby was caught in the middle of a battle, while she was able to protect her child she herself was gravely wounded".
"Still carrying her child the woman fled into the forest, but she knew that her time was short and she feared what would happen to her baby" said Rauru, Link had to hold back tears this was the saddest story he had ever heard.
"It was then that she found the Great deku tree, the dying woman begged the Great deku tree to protect her child, feeling great sympathy for the woman the Great deku tree promised that he would watch over the child and do his best to raise him".
"After the woman's death the Great deku tree did as he promised, he raised the child to the best of his abilities never telling him his true origan" said Rauru as he finished the story.
"Link do you understand what I am telling you" said Rauru, Link thought for a second "Are you saying that the baby in the story was" he said, "Yes Link, the baby was you" said Rauru.
Link didn't know what to say, he had just learned that everything he thought he knew was wrong, "How, how do you know all of this" asked Link, "Because, I have watched over you for many years in the form of an owl, I always felt that you would one day play a great role in the destiny of Hyrule" said Rauru.
Link could no longer hold back his tears, not only had he found out the he wasn't really a Kokiri but he had also learned that his family was dead.
"Link I know that this is all very upsetting for you, but now is not the time, Hyrule needs your help" said Rauru, "What do you mean" asked Link as he wiped his tears away, "Link what is the last thing you remember before you awoke here" asked Rauru.
Link thought for a moment, his memorises was a little foggy, then everything came back to him, the attack on Castle town, pulling the sword from the pedestal, and Ganondorf, "Ganondorf, he entered the Sacred realm" said Link in panic.
"Yes, I afraid that he did" said Rauru, "Link the sword that your found was the Master sword, it is a weapon forged by the goddess Hylia herself, it is the blade of evils bane".
"The Master sword can only be wielded by those it judges worthy of being a true hero, however you was too young to fulfil such a duty, and so you was sealed away for seven years until you was ready" explained Rauru.
"But if I was sealed away for seven years then what happened to Ganondorf" asked Link, Rauru sighed sadly, "Ganondorf entered the Sacred realm and claimed the Triforce of Power, with it he conquered Hyrule and has ruled for the past seven years" he said.
Link felt pure disperse run through his body, he had done everything he could to stop Ganondorf, but in the end the only thing he had done was open the door for him.
"Link I know that things seem bleak, but there is still hope" said Rauru, "How, how can we possibly stop Ganondorf now that he has the Triforce" said Link, "He may have the Triforce of power, but the other two pieces reside in two others" said Rauru.
"Link look at your hand" said Rauru, Link did as he was told and he saw that there was the symbol of the Triforce on the back of his left hand, the bottom right triangle of the Triforce was glowing brightly while the other two was dull and lifeless.
"That is the Triforce of courage, it has chosen you to be its wielder" said Rauru, Link was amazed as he looked at the golden triangle on the back of his hand, "So can I stop Ganondorf with this piece" asked Link.
Rauru shook his head, "No, the Triforce of courage is powerful, but it cannot defeat the Triforce of power alone, you will need help" said Rauru, "What sort of help" asked Link.
"As I said to you earlier, I am the sage of light, however there are supposed to be five other sages here, if we was all together then we could help you defeat Ganondorf" explained Rauru, "So where are the other sages" asked Link.
"That is the problem, after he became King Ganondorf killed the spirits of the other sages, I am the only one who remains" said Rauru sadly, "So, we can't stop him then" said Link with despair in his voice.
"There is still a way, the sages may have been killed but their roles can be passed on" said Rauru, "Passed on" asked Link, "Yes, five individuals have already been chosen to become the new sages" explained Rauru.
"So what do we need to do" asked Link with a lot more hope in his voice, "You must search all of Hyrule and find the five new sages, once their power has been awakened they can fulfil their duties as sages and help you defeat Ganondorf" explained Rauru.
"Ok, I'll do everything that I can" said Link, "Be warned Link, Hyrule is a very different place to what you remember, you must be cautious Ganondorf holds complete control over the land" said Rauru.
Link was about to be sent back to Hyrule when a thought suddenly occurred to him, "Wait if I have the Triforce of courage and Ganondorf has the Triforce of power, where's the last piece" he asked.
Rauru sighed, "I don't know, the location of the Tirforce of wisdom is a mystery even to me, we can only hope that it is a mystery to Ganondorf as well" he said.
After this Link was consumed by a great beam of light, soon he felt as if he was being lifted from the ground and carried somewhere else, Link closed him eyes ready to face whatever may stand before him.
