Chapter 31,

Repercussions.

Dimitri

Dimitri smiled as his soon to be ex wife stared at him in pure terror. The bullet had flown right by her ear, he knew she had felt the bullet go past her and it had served its purpose.

"You see Natasha, I'm not the man you think I am." Dimitri spoke calmly, placing the gun on the cold steel table, then he removed his blood stained gloves and wiped the blood off his face with a cloth from the pocket of his jacket.

"Sign the papers. I won't tell you again." His face was hard and his voice colder than it had ever been.

Dimitri left her hanging naked by her hands, bloody and frightened as she watched him open the door and call for one of his men to come closer. "Get her down and cleaned off, I'll leave some papers on the table by the stairs. Have her sign them or she doesn't leave. Understand ?"

"Da"

"Good man" Dimitri gave him a nod, then he left without a second glance towards his wife. This was the last time he would see her and it was a relief knowing he wouldn't have to deal with her or her problems any longer, faking a pregnancy to get him to stay. Dimitri had known from the start she wasn't pregnant, she was far too selfish to have children, and cared far too much about her appearance to even consider carrying one.

Dimitri left the dark basement, finding his way to his room. He needed to clean off before he could go back to Rose's side, she knew what he did, but that didn't mean she needed to see the blood on him, or the hospital staff for that matter.

His brows furrowed at the thought of his woman laying in a hospital bed, she needed to be home in their bed. Only theirs. He needed to talk to Rose about a place of their own, unless she wanted him to move into her apartment, he would. He would do anything she wanted him to do.

The shower he took was short but refreshing, a row of suits were equally spaced in the closet, his weird obsession with having things in order. Quickly he threw on one of many black suits, he left the tie off, if he had to carry his woman he wouldn't want her to get tangled in the tie.

Finally dressed, shaved and sprayed with Rose's favorite scent, he left the room and made his way down the hallway into the lobby. He made it to the bottom of the stairs when he almost, almost, lost his step when a tall blonde, Lissa, he realised came barreling into him like a mad woman.

"oh, I'm so sorry Mr. Belikov" She smiled shyly at him, as he gripped her shoulders, steadying her until she got her footing back to normal.

"Please, call me Dimitri, remember'' Dimitri gave her one of his rare smiles. He liked her, not only was she Rose's best friend but she was Christians woman, or would be soon at least. He could tell she was a kind person, she had that kind of air around her. She was good for Christian, she would keep him down to earth, he needed to be tamed. As much as she could at least.

"Yes, of course. How are you?" Lissa smiled

"Good, and you? I haven't seen you around here for sometime "

"I was with my mom, my sister was in some trouble and they needed my help" She just shrugged

"Anything I can help you with?"

"No, but thank you Christian has been very kind to me, and helped me a few days ago."

"That's good, If there is anything you need or can't get a hold of Christian, you can always speak to me and I'll either help you or atleast find Christian for you"

"Thank you Dimitri, that means a lot." Lissa went quiet for a few seconds as she studied him "you're good for her"

"And she is for me" Dimitri smiled wider just thinking of her. He gave her a nod, then he left the mansion and headed to the hospital, preparing to take his fianceƩ home.

The hospital was busy as usual, people coming and going, doctors rushing around and nurses with charts speaking to people and writing things down. Dimitri spoke to no one, he simply stepped into the elevator and found Rose's room with no interruptions or trouble.

He got a few strange stares as he walked past, remembering he had left his shirt collar open, revealing some of his tattoos on his chest and the lower part of his neck. He considered closing it, but left it as it was, he didn't care about himself or how he looked, nothing mattered but Rose.

The room was quiet when he approached, too quiet. He took out his gun just in case, looking down the hallway he took a step into the room and came to a stop when the sound of guns cocking echoed around the pitch black room. Dimitri turned his head in the direction, and dropped his tense shoulders.

A small light was turned on next to the small sofa by the window where his mama sat, looking like a bear protecting her cub until she saw him, her son standing in the doorway and dropped the gun she was holding. To his left Ian stood over his sister's bed, one hand holding a gun and the other a phone, clearly prepared to fight if he had to.

The third gun aimed at his head, was held by Aidan, standing right beside him. The barrel of the gun almost touching the side of Dimitri's skull. All the guns dropped when they saw it was him.

"Milyi" Mama gave a tired smile when she greeted her son,

"Hello mama, everything alright?" Dimitri whispered, not to wake the sleeping Rose

"Yes Milyi, she has been asleep since you left. The doctors have checked on her a few times, and everything is looking as it should"

"Have you slept at all mama?" Dimitri saw her tired eyes starting to droop, but she just smiled at her son and shook his question off

"Where is Boris ?"

"He went to get coffee" Aidan spoke, holstering his gun, then rubbing his face.

Ian hadn't said a word since he'd spotted Dimitri. Now he sat by his sister's bed, one hand on her bed and the other on his gun, his eyes closed as if he was already asleep. Dimitri knew immediately that Ian was wide awake, just by the posture of his body.

"Mama, would you mind staying for a few more minutes, I need to talk to Ian and Aidan"

Ian stood, kissing his sisters head, making her stir in her sleep scrunching her brows, her hands finding their way to her stomach. Dimitri smiled. She was already protecting their child.

Both Mazur brothers followed Dimitri out of the room, giving their sister a worried look before closing the door and turning to Dimitri "will your mother be alright alone in their with her?"

"My mother is more dangerous than me, Rose has never been safer"

They looked unsure, even if the three of them stood right outside the door they were all still on edge "What do you want to talk about Belikov?" Aidan got straight to the point as always

"I'm marrying your sister, that isn't going to change whether you like it or not." Dimitri spoke autoritively

"Figured as much" Aidan stated

"I just wanted to make sure that you and your father knew that my men will now and forever be at your disposal, whether it concerns Rose or not. She is my life and there is nothing I won't do to keep her safe."

"Thank you. Just promise me she will never come to me crying over you. I don't care who you are or what you can do. She is my sister and she has been through enough" Ian spoke just as athoritavely as Dimitri had

"That is the one promise I can give you."

That seemed to be enough for the brothers, they simply gave Dimitri a nod, and went to retrieve their jackets and leave the hospital, they needed their sleep and since Dimitri was there they had no reason to worry about their sister, at least not for the time being.

Dimitri found his mother by Rose's bed when he entered, she was kissing her head like she used to do to him and his sisters when they were younger. She loved so much and Rose was now and would forever be one of her children.

"Go get some sleep mama, I'll call you if there is any change but i think she'll be fine for the night"

"All right Milyi, I'll see you two in the morning

His mama was happy he had found someone he truly loved. She wanted all of her children to be happy, but Dimitri she had always worried about the most, and he knew that. Dimitri knew she felt guilty for what he had endured at the hands of his father and the work his father did and had molded Dimitri into. She felt guilty for not protecting him as a mother should, he constantly had to reassure her it had always been out of her hands. His father was a bastard, born in an era of crime and despair.

Dimitri watched his mother leave him to take care of Rose and the child growing in her belly. Dimitri felt something unknown creep up his spine, something he hadn't felt since he had first arrived in prison. Fear. His brows drew close and his fists clenched. If they hadn't found her when they did, he wasn't sure she would be alive, their child would certainly have died.

The guilt gnawed at his insides as he watched her sleep curled in the fetal position in the middle of the bed. She was so small and fragile, but beneath that small frame a strong and loyal woman. Yes, she was loyal and she cared more for others than she did for herself. She was too good for him, far too good.

There was nothing he wouldn't do for her, and even if he didn't deserve her, she was his and he would do everything in his power to make her happy. She would have everything she would ever need or want, she would be cared for by him and all of his brothers.

Thinking of his brothers Anton appeared in his mind, the bloody traitor. He had knowingly handed his family over to the man of Rose's worst nightmare. Anton had handed Dimitri's own flesh and blood growing inside her over to a man willing to do the most disgusting thing a man could ever do to a woman. The rage grew in him. If there was one there were others, he needed to have everyone looked into it had to be done, brothers or not, this was his family and they would be safe no matter the cost.

But for now he would be by her side for as long as he needed. A smile slid onto his face at the thought of her, she looked peaceful as she slept. She had to know she was safe and nothing would harm her ever again.

"Dimitri" her raspy voice drew him out of his haze, he watched her struggle to sit up. Rushing to her side he made sure her pillow was propped up against the back of the bed before he helped her into a seating position.

"How are you feeling moya lyubov' ? any pain" his voice was soft and low when he took a seat at the edge of her bed, making sure not to disturb her position in anyway

"A little sore" she winced then smiled "I've endured worse" her attempt at lightning the air did not work by the look Dimitri knew he was giving her

"That is nothing to joke about Roza"

She sighed and slid a hand up his forearm, smiling a little more at the warmth he knew she felt under his shirt. He was like a radiator, always had been and he loved her reaction to him every single time she touched him.

"I know, but I don't like seeing you upset." tucking a lock behind her ear Rose looked into his eyes as she continued "especially not at me"

"moya lyubov'" Dimitri stoked her cheek in response and smiled softly at her "there is nothing you do that can upset me, not now or in the future"

Rose snorted at that "right, can you write that down" she raised one brow "for future reference you know"

"You're funny Roza, very funny" he loved the playful side of her, she was becoming herself again.

"Dimitri ?"

"Yes Roza"

"I need to pee, can you help me to the bathroom?"

He didn't say anything, he simply removed the covers off her legs and felt her shiver at the loss of heat. Rose was about to step into the floor, but he had other ideas about that. Swiftly he gripped her behind the knees and around her back drawing her into his chest lifting her from the bed

"I can walk" Rose huffed in exaggerated annoyance

"I know."

Dimitri carried her to the bathroom and slowly placed her on her bare feet in front of the toilet, then he leaned against the sink crossing his arms, waiting.

"You don't have to wait, if you don't want to" Rose yawned as she sat down

Dimitri just smiled at her tiredness "I don't mind waiting"

Her returning smile was heartwarming, it was filled with gratitude even if it was just the result of her lack of a good night's sleep.

He waited as she finished doing what she needed and then he carried her back to bed. Removing his shoes and socks before laying down next to her, holding her close in his arms, keeping her warm as she relaxed into his touch.

"What did you do to them?" Rose asked quietly. Dimitri stiffened "you should sleep moya lyubov', we can talk in the morning"

"I like listening to your voice." her murmur was muffled by his broad chest "you don't have to hide from me Dimitri. There is nothing you could say or do that would make be love you less"

"There are things I do that I need to keep at work."Dimitri began "I don't want anything to affect the time I have with you. But I will tell you the things that can affect you or us as a whole." Stopping for a moment, he ran his fingers through her dark hair, shooting all her worries with simple strokes "If you truly want to know I will tell you everything I did and will do in the future to make sure no one touches you ever again"

"Tell me Dimitri, I want to know every part of you. Good or bad"

"Very well. Natasha has always been selfish, but I never realized just how selfish she is. When she felt us drifting apart she contacted her father, he is like my father in a way. He runs his own organization in a small part of Ukraine. He isn't the reliable sort but he has some influence over the men in our profession. She told him about her marriage to a man who she suspected was cheating on her. She never told him my name, sometimes I wish she had, then none of this would ever have happened." Dimitri sighed

"Her father told her about an old 'acquaintance' he had in the seattle area. I use the term acquaintance lightly. He was talking about Ivan. Ivan is known in the largest circles as the Pakhan or the boss, remember what I told you about our ranks ?"

Rose simply nodded, playing with a button on his shirt waiting for him to continue.

"Well, Ivan is known for his 'communication' talents, Vadik, her and Christian's father told her to contact him and that he would do anything for the right prize. And he will, well almost everything. Killing me is not one of them."

"Why would she want to kill you. Isn't she still in love with you?"

"She is in love with the idea of me. Of the life I could give her, but I'm almost certain she loves no one but herself. She isn't capable of love."

"Was she ever pregnant?" Rose placed a hand on her belly out of instinct as she questioned him

"No. there is nothing that implies a pregnancy ever excited, and the odds of her being pregnant were slim to none. I had a feeling she had been sleeping around, so I didn't take any chances with her. Before I met you I hadn't slept with her for almost six months. I didn't feel that way about her anymore."

"Good, cause you're mine" Rose hugged him tighter as if she was trying to prove a point

"Yes I do." Dimitri chuckled kissing the top of her head as she squeezed him "She contacted Ivan, and he contacted me. Told me about her plan and scolded me for not telling him about my marriage. I didn't tell them because she would have been telling everyone around us what I 'really' do for a living, and that is something I just can't risk. My men I don't worry about as much as I do my mother and sisters. They knew about Tasha, who she was, who her family is. My men knew I was seeing her but they had no idea of the extent of it. It was simply better that way. She was and is a liability."

"So she never asked you about the tattoos covering your body?"

"She did. I just never bothered to explain, and she never asked again. She isn't as curious and resourceful as you moya lyubov'."

"I don't like not knowing things." Rose mumbled in defence, bringing another chuckle from Dimitri.

"She met Anton, when she came to the mansion to talk to Ivan. She flirted with him and they slept together a few times. He knew Tasha and I were involved, but he didn't care. Anton told her he knew me and the two off them came up with a plan to have both you and me killed. You were to be killed first and then when I came looking for you they were going to put a bullet in my head. Viktor and Jacob were convenient, Anton has apparently been selling information to Viktor and the Mancini's for some months now. Nothing of importance really but information all the same.

He was prepared to take the risk to betray Ivan, me and our entire brotherhood for money, drugs and women who were to be sold. I don't tolerate that, none of the things he did are forgivable. Had he come for me directly I wouldn't have cared as much, but coming after you is something no one will do without suffering repercussions by my hand"

"Has he? Suffered I mean?" Rose asked, nothing but curiosity shining in her eyes.

"Yes, he did. Not enough for what he did, but I needed to get back to you. He is a warning to anyone who will ever consider doing you or our child harm."

"Is he dead?"

"Yes."

"Good" Rose stated. Dimitri wasn't surprised at her reaction, she was a fair woman, but she was no ones submissive. She had suffered by his doing, but she would suffer no more.

They lay together for a few minutes, enjoying the company of each other and the silence surrounding them in the dark room, the only ounce of light was the brightness of the moon streaming in through the open window.

"When can you take me home? I want to sleep in your bed not here"

"If the doctor says everything is alright in the morning, I will take you home and we will stay in bed for as long as you want." Dimitri promised "the men can't wait to see you again, they miss having you around, and my sisters want to officially meet the woman I am going to be spending the rest of my life with"

"What about Natasha?"

"What about her?"

"She is still your wife, isn't she?"

"For a few more hours. I'm going to talk to your father in the morning, to see if he'll help me with that little problem since you are on bedrest until further notice"

"She won't sign the papers that easily Dimitri, we both know that"

"If Kolya did his Job right the papers are signed and we won't be seeing her ever again"

"Is she ?" He noticed how she left the rest of the question floating in the air

"Dead? No."

Rose just nodded and drew in a large breath, "so, we're safe now aren't we?

"Yes, safe and sound in my arms. Forever" Dimitri agreed kissing her lips softly in the most loving way he could manage

"Forever" Rose echoed "You, me and our little boy."

"You think it's a little russian boy?" Dimitri smiled with pride

"Maybe. But I can tell you that with a father like you, this child will be anything but little"

Dimitri laughed at that, kissing her head one more time before tucking the cover tighter around her and lulling her to sleep with his fingers in her hair.
