I don't know why this took so long!
Fang and I wrote it last year, but with COVID, and everything else in world building stress; my ability to post chapters was blocked for some reason.
Still, better late than never. If you're familiar with the show, you'll recognize a lot of these scenes from Season 10, but this takes place in Season 9. At least, my version of it.
I don't own Modern Family. All OCs belong to me and Fang.
Chapter 13: Finally Married & Baby Shower
The following week, Jay let Kevin and Haley use the golf course at his country club for the wedding. He'd already done that for Mitch and Cam, so he was more than happy to do it for his granddaughter.
All their friends and family were gathered there; Claire, Phil, Alex, Luke, Mitchell, Cameron, Lilly, Jay, Gloria, Manny, Joe, Anna, Mark, Kelsey, little Alex, Sean, Danny, Fred, Carlos, Andre, Rachel, Savannah, Mindy and their families.
Kevin was standing beneath a floral archway, wearing a nice suit, with Sean as his best man, and Mark as officiant.
The bridal march began, making everyone stand. Phil walked Haley down the aisle, and she was already in tears.
Today...would be one of her greatest days ever.
She was wearing a simple, but elegant tube-top dress.
Phil gave her hand to Kevin, then brought up two fingers, pointed at his eyes and then at Kevin.
He nodded to him, getting the message. Phil went over to his seat and everyone sat down.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony," Mark said. "Their decision to marry has not been entered into lightly and today they publicly declare their private devotion to each other. The essence of this commitment is the acceptance of each other in entirety, as lover, companion, and friend. A good and balanced relationship is one in which neither person is overpowered nor absorbed by the other, one in which neither person is possessive of the other, one in which both give their love freely and without jealousy. Marriage, ideally, is a sharing of responsibilities, hopes, and dreams. It takes a special effort to grow together, survive hard times, and be loving and unselfish."
Claire sniffled as she watched Haley while Jay held up the camera.
"Kevin Nathanial Turner, do you take Haley Gwendolyn Dunphy, to be your wife?" Mark asked.
"I do," He said.
"And Haley, do you take Kevin, to be your husband, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Haley cried.
"Then by the power vested in me by the state of California, I pronounce you husband and wife," Mark said.
Not waiting to be told to kiss, Haley and Kevin embraced and kissed each other as everyone stood up and applauded.
"That's our girl!" exclaimed Phil.
"WHOO!" shouted Luke.
After a couple hours of a dinner party, everyone headed home.
Kevin and Haley didn't have a big honeymoon, but they did spend three days at a luxurious hotel suite.
They had sex because of Haley's insistence, even though Kevin wanted her to take it easy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple weeks later, Haley had her first ultrasound. Kevin and Claire went with her.
"Okay, Mrs. Turner," said the doctor as she prepared the ultrasound. "Just give me a few more minutes and we'll get you ready."
"Nervous?" Kevin asked Haley as he held her hand.
"Very," she replied.
After the doctor applied the gel, she placed the wand on Haley's stomach.
"Okay, let's see what we got here," she said as she moved the wand around.
A few seconds later, they got an image on the screen and some sound.
"Ah, there's the heartbeat," The doctor smiled.
"But, it sounds so fast, is everything okay?" Haley asked with worry.
"It's perfectly fine, it's supposed to sound like that," The doctor assured her.
"She's right, it's the sound of a very healthy baby," Claire chimed in, remembering what she was told when she was pregnant.
"Hmm...I think we got something," the doctor said as she moved the wand around a bit...and that's when Haley saw not one...but two familiar shapes.
"...Two...?" Haley whispered in disbelief.
"...Oh, my god..." Kevin said. "We're having twins!"
"I can't have twins!" Haley started panicking. "That's twice as many babies as we were expecting!"
"Whoa Haley, calm down," Kevin tried to console her.
"How are they gonna fit in our place?! How are they gonna fit in my body?!" Haley continued to panic. "One of them is always gonna be awake, I'll never sleep again and those double strollers are so wide, I can say goodbye to ever shopping in a boutique again!"
"Haley, listen to Kevin and calm down," Claire told her daughter. "Everything's going to be fine."
"You don't know that!" Haley cried. "I'm in way over my head Mom!"
"Haley, look at me," Kevin held her face. "It's going to be okay. Your Mom, Rachel, the rest of your family, our roommates and I will be here for you."
"He's right, we'll all be here if you ever feel overwhelmed," Claire brushed Haley's hair as she teared up. "And as you're about to learn; being a Mom is very complicated. Luckily there are these instincts that kick in when your kid's in trouble."
"Like I told you when you told me you were pregnant, 'I'm not going anywhere'," Kevin reminded her, kissing her.
"...Oh, Kevin...!" Haley whispered as she hugged him.
"I love you," he whispered in her ear.
"I love you too," she cried.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kevin and Haley returned to the "Fun House" where she was immediately hugged gently by Rachel.
"Hey~!" She sang. "So, how'd it go?!"
"We're...having twins," Haley said.
Rachel gasped. "No way!"
"Yep," Haley answered.
"Two for the price of one!" Rachel exclaimed before she nudged Kevin in the shoulder. "I knew you had it in you, Kev."
"He must got some potent shit!" Andre joked. "Your sperm works!"
"Dre!" Sean nudged him.
"Glad you can joke about it, cause I'm still scared," Haley said.
"Oh, Haley," said Kevin as he went up and held her.
"Hey, we'll all be here for you," Mindy assured her, rubbing her belly.
"Thanks, you guys," Haley said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now up in their room; Haley was taking a nap while Kevin was recording another YouTube video.
It made sense that Haley was sleeping; women sleep a lot when they're pregnant.
Kevin was being as quiet as possible while he recorded. The topic of his video, playing "Bendy and the Ink Machine".
He was on Chapter 3: Rise and Fall...and he had just found Alice Angel. Well...the twisted version of her, that is.
"DAAAHH!" He gasped quietly.
He didn't want to wake Haley up. To him, that was actually a lot scarier than the game.
Well, he hoped he was wrong. So far, Haley hadn't had too many outbursts because of her hormones.
He just prayed she didn't get like Aunt Viv did in Fresh Prince or Gloria when she was pregnant with Joe. Aunt Viv had turned from understanding to crazy, and Gloria had become more hotheaded than usual.
But he wouldn't get started on that.
In the game, he made his way back across the wooden boards above the sea of ink, past all the lifeless characters strapped to gurneys.
"Okay, so far, so good..." he whispered.
When he got to the stairs, he had to fight off some ink monsters with a plunger.
He got to some kind of recording studio, where there was some twisted character running around.
"Okay, I think I'm gonna leave this part of Episode 3 here," Kevin said into the mic. "Normally I play these episodes in one go, but this one seems super long. So, I'll do a Part 2 on it another time. The best part of this was hearing Jacksepticeye's voice! So, until next time, this has been Kev, peace."
He then turned off his screen recorder, then pulled off his headset before he looked over at Haley, who was still sleeping.
He smiled at the sight; she always looked so pretty, and almost anyone looked peaceful when they slept.
But Haley, she now had an extra glow since she was pregnant.
It was...captivating, to say the least. There was just something so beautiful, so magical about watching her sleep...while two little lives grew inside her, waiting to be born.
He went over to the bed and gently laid down next to her.
As if she sensed him, she smiled while he gently held her hand and kissed her fingers.
She turned over to snuggle up to him, humming pleasantly.
Kevin wrapped his arms around her...putting his hands over her belly.
She was only in her first trimester and she was barely showing.
But she did have a bit of a bump.
It wasn't very noticeable, yet.
He knew she was going to be hungry when she woke up, so he moved to get up, but Haley was holding his arm.
He slowly, carefully pulled his arm out of her grip. As he moved to get up, Haley grabbed his arm and held it even tighter.
"Haley!" Kevin groaned a bit. He turned to look at her, and she had a big smile on her face.
"Haley, I know you're awake," He told her as he softly tickled her sides.
Haley giggled. "No, stop it!"
"Then let go," Kevin told her. "I was going to get you some food."
"Take me with you," she said.
Kevin picked her up bridal style and carried her downstairs to the kitchen.
"Well hello, expecting parents," Mindy greeted.
"How are you feeling, girl?" Rachel asked.
"I'm okay," Haley said as Kevin sat her down in a chair. "Had a nice nap."
"You know, you're gonna have to request maternity leave at work," Mindy reminded her.
"Yeah," Haley sighed. "I'm so lucky Mrs. Anderson is so understanding."
"Have you talked to her, yet?" asked Rachel.
"Not since she let me take time off for my wedding," Haley said.
"Something else you need to do, well; you and Kevin," Mindy handed her a brochure for parenting classes.
"Parenting classes?" asked Kevin as he picked it up.
"Is that really necessary?" Haley asked.
"For new parents, yes," Rachel said. "My big sister had to do it with her boyfriend when she got knocked up."
Kevin got some ice cream out of the freezer, strawberry frozen yogurt and Peanut Butter Cup flavor.
Lately, Haley had been craving that. And she immediately started eating the two frozen treats.
"What do these classes teach?" she asked, with a mouthful of ice cream.
"Procedures following the baby's birth, understanding normal newborn characteristics, and all kinds of other things," Rachel answered.
"Well...these do sound like they could come in handy," Kevin said.
He read the brochure further, checking for nearby classes that were gonna happen soon,
"There's one tomorrow at 9:40 AM."
"Well, I guess we'll be getting up early tomorrow," said Haley.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later, Haley drove to where she worked to see her boss.
Once she walked in, the secretary, Ashley greeted her,
"Haley, what are you doing here?"
"I need to talk to Mrs. Anderson," Haley said.
"She's in a meeting right now," said Ashley.
"Okay, I'll just wait," Haley said.
"Didn't she just give you marital leave?" Ashley asked.
"Now I need maternity leave," Haley replied.
Ashley gasped, "You're pregnant?!"
"Ta-dah!" Haley exclaimed. "Isn't it great?"
"Oh Haley, that's wonderful~!" Ashley hugged her.
"Thank you!" Haley said as she hugged her back.
~Ten minutes later~
Ms. Anderson came in, finished with her meeting,
"Haley, what are you doing here? You're still supposed to be on marital leave."
"I came for something else-" Haley started.
"Haley," Ms. Anderson interrupted, holding the girl's shoulders. "I already had you set up for maternity leave, as well."
Haley's eyes widened, "You knew?!"
"You already had the glow before you got married," Ms. Anderson smiled.
"...Wow, you're good," Haley said.
"Now, go home, try to get through the next nine months and have a healthy baby," Ms. Anderson told her, and led her out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The next day~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Haley and Kevin were sitting at a two person table together, waiting for the instructor to show up.
Haley felt a little put off being in the parenting class; especially since she and Kevin were the youngest couple in the room.
There were some people in their early 30s and 40s here.
"Hey, you okay?" Kevin rubbed her back.
"Have you noticed we're the youngest couple here?" she asked.
"So?" He asked. "Just means we'll have more time."
Despite that, Haley was still a little unsure.
"I guess, but...this is something I can't screw up, and I already know I'm going to. I broke rules all my life, and it got me kicked out of college! I was barely able to make it through school, except for being popular! I lived in my parents basement for five years while doing community college, and kept having a different job every time! My parents kept talking about me like I was a failure and that I was waiting for someone to offer me something! AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!"
She stood up, crying hysterically. Everyone else in the class turned to her in surprise, and concern.
Kevin stood up and tried to calm her down,
"Haley!"
"I couldn't afford to be on my own, and then I met you!" Haley continued her freak out. "And you're the best thing that's ever happened to me, but without you, I'm a loser! A failure! *sob* I'm just a waste of-"
"Shh, shh, it's okay," Kevin pulled her into his arms, letting her cry.
"...Why would you ever wanna be with someone like me?" Haley asked.
"Don't you start that, now," said Kevin.
"Honey, it's gonna be okay," An African American woman assured her. "I had a similar life."
"...R...really?" asked Haley. "How'd you get through it?"
"Therapy," The responded. "And a lot of support from my family and friends."
"Well, we already have that," Kevin said, smiling.
A woman came into the classroom, pushing a cart full of baby dolls,
"Morning everyone and welcome! Nice to see so many different couples. For our first lesson, we're going to learn swaddling."
She then went to every table, giving a doll to every couple.
"What's swaddling?" Haley asked Kevin.
"It's when you wrap a baby up in a blanket, really tightly," Kevin said. "It gives them the feeling they're being hugged."
"Oh, that's why there's a blanket on each table," Haley picked up the little blue blanket.
The instructor put a doll on their table and went back to the front,
"Okay, let's begin. (She set her blanket down) Now, you want to start by turning one corner of the blanket toward you, like a diamond, and folding the top down..."
Haley tried to copy her motions.
"Am...am I doing it right?" she asked.
"Like this," Kevin helped her.
"Place your baby over the folded blanket," The instructor continued. "Tuck in from the left, then the feet, then the right. (She held up the bundled doll) Like a baby burrito."
Haley didn't quite do hers right, so the doll fell out. Plus, she didn't hold it up properly.
"Dammit," She cursed.
"Haley, it's okay," said Kevin.
"No, I messed up!" Haley whined.
"It's okay, just try again!" Kevin assured. "Here, try like this."
He showed her how to do it properly, and also held up the doll the right way.
"We should probably get some dolls and blankets for home so we can practice," He suggested.
Haley looked down at the floor, feeling a bit dejected.
"Haley, I know you're probably feeling all kinds of things because of your pregnancy, right now," said Kevin, "but you're psyching yourself out."
"I don't deserve you," Haley sobbed a bit and kissed him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple hours later; Kevin and Haley returned to the Fun House, along with some blankets and baby dolls.
"Hey guys, how'd it go?" Sean asked.
"Horribly, I sucked," Haley lamented.
"It went okay," Kevin interjected. "We just made a few mistakes."
"Is she doing that thing again where she thinks she's gonna be a horrible mom?" Rachel asked.
"Rachel, I can't even take care of myself!" Haley exclaimed. "How am I supposed to take care of a baby, let alone two?!"
"Stop, stop, STOP!" Kevin cried. "Haley, will you please calm down? It was only the first day!"
"Haley, you're gonna be THAT Mom," Mindy rubbed her back. "The one all your kids' friends meet and say, "I wish she was my Mom". Maybe I'm the only one that did that, because my Mom died giving birth to me."
"No, I did too," Haley hugged her. "You've seen my Mom. I love her, but most of the time...I wish Anna was my Mom."
"Yeah, she's an incredible woman," Kevin smiled.
"...But...what if-" Haley started.
"Ah-ah!" Kevin interrupted. "Don't you start with 'what-if', understand? There are no 'what-ifs'!"
"This is important!" Haley interrupted. "Something I really don't want is to turn into MY Mom."
"Oh trust us, we WILL NOT let that happen!" Rachel declared.
"So, what did you learn?" Mindy asked.
"Swaddling, bathing, diapers, burping, holding, soothing techniques, safety and nursery equipment," Kevin said.
"And breastfeeding concerns and problems," Haley added, blushing.
"Hey, we need to go shopping for maternity clothes," Rachel said.
"Good call," Haley agreed.
"Jay and Manny told me that when Gloria was pregnant with Joe, she didn't get maternity clothes until reality smacked her in the face," Kevin said. "She was in denial, saying the dry cleaners was "shrinking" her clothes. Then, when she was out with Manny, her clothes finally gave out!"
"I'm surprised her clothes never gave out before with those breasts of hers," Mindy joked.
Everyone laughed a bit at that one.
Haley went out with the girls later to buy maternity clothes. She even got help from Alex, Gloria and Anna. She felt a little bad about excluding her own mother from these things, but she knew dealing with her would make her more stressed. And she did not need that right now.
As they were shopping, Alex asked,
"Have you thought about having a baby shower?"
"A baby shower?" Haley repeated.
"You know; a little party to celebrate you becoming-" Alex explained.
"I know what a baby shower is," Haley interrupted.
"Come on, girl!" Savannah said. "You'll get a bunch of presents and get to play some games!"
"And think of all the cute baby stuff!" Alex added.
Haley smiled at the thought, "Well, it would be fun."
~~~~~~~~~~~A couple months later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now it was February, and everyone was gathering at Jay's for Haley's baby shower. Which, unfortunately for Jay, was happening the same day as the Super Bowl.
Alex and Rachel planned the event, now they just needed everyone to arrive. Jay, Gloria, Kevin, Alex and Rachel were the only ones currently at the house.
Jay was just saying that baby showers are tame compared to Super Bowls, when Claire came in, holding two bottles of alcohol and cheering like she was ready for a wild party.
Anna came in as she was cheering, and smacked her upside the head, making her drop the bottles!
"Thanks Mom!" Kevin exclaimed. "That's exactly what I wanted to do!"
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Anna yelled at Claire.
"I've been asking that for years," Jay said.
"Mom, this is a baby shower, not a bridal shower," Alex reminded her.
"Well, MY bridal shower took place when I was pregnant with Haley," Claire said, almost like she was trying to make a point.
"I don't care, we're not doing that," Kevin said as he went over to clean up the broken glass and the alcohol on the floor.
"Agreed," Jay said. "In fact, give me your keys."
"Dad, I don't-"
"NOW, young lady!"
Claire groaned like a child as she gave Jay her car keys.
"Let me give you a hand, Mr. P," Rachel followed him out the front door.
Soon, they opened the car...and they could not believe their eyes.
"That woman needs serious help, or a shock collar," Rachel said. "No offence."
"None taken," Jay responded.
Sean, Danny, Fred, Carlos and Andre showed up next, and they saw the mini-van trunk full of alcoholic beverages.
"Who brings alcohol to a baby shower?!" Andre exclaimed.
"Haley's Mom did," Rachel answered.
"We were just about to get rid of it," Jay said.
"We'll help you," Sean said. "Rach, the girls should be arriving soon, along with Jason."
"And Haley's not exactly in a happy mood," Fred added.
"Why's that?" Rachel asked.
"Who knows? She's always moody," Carlos shrugged.
"Well, the poor girl's pregnant," Rachel said. "Cut her some slack."
Another mini-van pulled into the driveway, and Jason called from the driver's window,
"Hey guys!"
"Hey, you made it!" Rachel waved, just as Haley came out...and she did not look happy, AT ALL. "Haley, what's wrong?"
"What's wrong?!" she exclaimed. "Look at me!"
She was wearing a pine green wool jacket over a pale green Henley maternity top. Her belly showed she was in her second trimester. But what she was most upset about was her pants.
"Is there a problem we're not seeing?" Danny asked.
"I can't wear skirts anymore, because my thighs keep growing hairs faster than I can shave it," Haley cried a bit. "So, I'm wearing ski-pants...to my own baby shower."
"Oh, boy, here we go..." Jason muttered. "She was like this, the entire ride."
"Honestly, I didn't even know those were ski-pants until you said they were," Sean said.
"Come on, you need Kevin," Rachel escorted the upset mother-to-be inside.
"I don't think even he could make me feel better, right now," Haley pouted.
"Ohh, I beg to differ," Rachel said.
They went through the front door, and Anna and Alex were standing in the foyer.
"Hey Haley!" Anna greeted happily, then she saw how upset she was. "Honey, what's wrong?"
"I'm fat and gross," Haley answered.
"Oh, sweetheart, no you're not," Anna said. "I think you look beautiful."
"You're just telling me that," Haley said. "Look at me! I can't even wear those cute skirts I like! I'm getting hairy everywhere and my feet hurt and...and..." She soon started crying.
Kevin heard her and ran over to her, and hugged her, "Shh, baby it's okay. Just let it out."
Alex then had an idea, so she got out her phone and left the room.
"Listen, no one else is gonna notice the ski-pants," Kevin whispered. "Although, our main concern right now should be Claire."
"She tried to bring alcohol to this thing!" Rachel said, angrily.
"What?!" Haley questioned. "What is wrong with her?! This is a baby shower, not a keg party! Besides, I can't drink! I'm pregnant!"
"You know Claire and drinking," Gloria reminded her.
"That's what Jay and the boys are taking care of," Savannah said as she and Mindy came in.
Alex came back over, "Hey, I'm sorry you're having a bad day. But luckily, I invited Danielle."
"Danielle? Ugh, she is so annoying," Haley scoffed. "Everything she says sounds 'like a question? But it's not?'."
"Yeah, but she's in like her thousandth month of pregnancy," Alex reminded her.
"Oh my God; that means I won't be the grossest preggo here, bless you," Haley hugged her sister.
"I have my moments," Alex said as she returned her sister's hug.
"Hey guys!" Claire came over from the living room, with one hand behind her back. "Who's ready for a baby-"
"DON'T do that again!" Kevin interrupted her. "And put the bottle of scotch back where you got it!"
"Mom, I can't even drink!" Haley exclaimed.
"Everyone needs a little liquid courage; makes the dirty games more fun," Claire tried and failed to get everyone on her side.
"Okay; one, there are no dirty games," Rachel said. "Two, you're the only one who thinks that BS."
"Claire, you may be my mother-in-law, but I'm putting my foot down here," Kevin said in a very serious tone. "Try the drink thing one more time, and you're uninvited."
"Excuse me, this is my Dad's house!" Claire shot back. "You can't just-"
"You heard the man, Claire," Jay said as he came in, followed by the rest of the boys. Jason and Alex kissed each other in greeting.
Claire stared at everyone in disbelief.
"You...you're all serious," she said, and everyone nodded. "I...I just wanted to try and make things a little fun-"
"Mom," Haley said. "This is MY shower. Mine and Kevin's...please don't ruin it."
With that, everyone went over to the dining room, where the shower was gonna happen.
Claire just stood there, shocked.
Jay went over to her, "Claire; I know you saw this as an opportunity to have your own proper bridal shower, since you couldn't have it cause you were pregnant. But Haley didn't have one either, and she wasn't the least bit disappointed. Take a page from her book, and let it go."
"...I guess I...really wasn't thinking about her...was I?" Claire asked.
"No, you weren't," Jay said.
Phil and Luke arrived next, along with his girlfriend, Sarah Ho. Next came Manny, Mitchell, Cameron and Lilly.
It seemed like Jay, Phil, Cam and Luke were there for the Super Bowl, everyone else was there for the baby shower.
Haley was a bit disappointed about that.
"Boys will be boys," Gloria commented.
"None taken," Andre remarked, even though she hadn't said "No offence".
Danielle arrived last.
"Oh, Danielle," Alex greeted her. "You look so good, why?"
"The magic of pregnancy? Hashtag blessed?" She said in the exact manner that Haley mentioned.
"Who says 'hashtag' out loud?" Carlos whispered to the others.
"Only a complete and total ditz..." Savannah muttered.
"Okay, everybody!" Alex announced. "First, we're gonna have cake, play some games, and finally, open presents!"
"Yeah!" everyone cheered and clapped their hands.
The cake was large, with chocolate and peanut butter frosting. The cake had "Congratulations Haley and Kevin" written on it in orange frosting.
"Oh, wow, that looks so good...!" Haley whispered.
Everybody took a slice, some took two. Haley and Danielle took at least four or five.
"Damn, that must be good cake," said Sean.
"It is, but I'm eating for three, so shut up," Haley said, before eating more cake.
"...And suddenly, I'm frightened," said Sean.
"If I'm ever like that when I'm pregnant, I apologize in advance," Rachel whispered to him, kissing his cheek.
"Aww, thanks, babe," Sean said with a tender smile, causing Rachel to giggle.
"Okay everyone, we're about to start games!" Alex announced. "You can continue eating cake if you wish, though."
Fred and Jason set up a medium sized flat screen TV and a DVD player on the kitchen counter.
Alex and Rachel didn't like any of the regular baby shower games, so they decided on Harry Potter Scene It? The Complete Cinematic Journey.
"Oh, this'll be good," said Alex.
Everyone broke off into teams: Kevin, Haley and Kelsey on Team One. Sean, Rachel and Anna as Team Two. Danny, Savannah and Andre as Team Three. Alex, Jason and Lilly as Team Four. Fred, Mindy and Mitchell were Team Five. And finally, Manny, Gloria and Carlos on Team Six.
"Okay, everyone ready?" asked Kevin.
"Yeah!" Everyone answered.
They played for a couple hours, ending with a sudden death for the winner between Team One and Team Four.
For the last question, they turned off the DVD and let Manny come up with the last question,
"What were the four names on the Marauder's Map?"
"Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs!" Kevin, Alex, Kelsey and Jason exclaimed at the same time.
"Okay, forget that one; you all answered at the same time," Manny said. "Let's try again: one of the Weasley's isn't in the movies, but he's mentioned and we see him in the books. Which one?"
Silence for thirty seconds, then Jason blurted out, "Charlie!"
"Correct!" Manny said.
"YEAH!" Jason cheered.
"Dammit," Kevin cursed. "Eh, oh well."
For once, Alex didn't do a crazy dance to rub in people's faces that she lost. Best think about her being with Jason; he taught her to be a better sport.
Now, it was time for presents.
"Okay, let's see what we got here," said Kevin as he picked up a big box. "Ooh, this is big, whatever it is!"
"W-wait, wait!" Claire called. "Before we open presents...I want to say something, first."
"Mom, I told you, this is not about-" Haley said.
"I'm sorry, Haley," Claire said, causing her to gasp.
"What?" Haley questioned.
"I'm sorry," Claire repeated. "I...I tried to make this about me...but you were right. This is yours and Kevin's special day. I just wanted to make up for the bridal shower I didn't get to have because I was pregnant with you." She then teared up a little. "I mean...what was I thinking? Bringing alcohol to a baby shower? Wake up, Claire!" She then looked down at the floor. "I...I'm sorry I almost ruined things."
"...You didn't ruin anything...!" Haley said with teary eyes.
The mother and daughter hugged each other.
"Better late than never," Alex remarked.
"Alright, let's see what we got here!" Kevin said, handing Haley the present he was holding.
Haley opened it up and saw that it was a dual-stroller.
"Oh, my god, wow!" she exclaimed. "It's perfect! Who got this?"
"Hello," Anna smiled.
"Thank you Anna~!" she hugged her. "I love it!"
"Sorry, but my gift couldn't be brought out cause it's so big," Claire said. "Well, technically it's from me AND Phil; a double crib."
"You're kidding!" Haley exclaimed. "God, it must have cost nearly a fortune!"
"Well, no offence, but we have a bit more money since you moved out," Claire said.
"Oh..." Haley muttered. "Well, that's fine, I guess."
"Me next!" Gloria said, handing her a present.
Haley opened it, revealing a turquoise colored, silk bathrobe.
"Oh, my god, this is gorgeous!" Haley exclaimed.
"Something to relax in after the babies are born," Gloria said, smiling.
"I love it Gloria, gracias!" Haley said.
Gloria laughed as she hugged Haley.
"Here's mine!" Rachel said as she handed Haley her present. She opened it to find some baby-safe bubble bath.
"Aw, baby bubbles~!" Haley cooed.
The other gifts included a baby monitor camera shaped like a rabbit, some baby clothes for boys and girls, and more things.
One that Haley particularly loved was a pair of teddy bears wearing different colored bows: one pink and one blue.
"Even if they're both girls, I'm sure one will like the color blue," said Mindy.
"Ohh...they're adorable~!" Haley said with tears in her eyes. "Thank you so much, everyone! This means so much!
"Well, we just want your baby shower to be special," said Anna.
"And it was!" Haley cried happily. "I know the next five months are gonna be hell, but this is one of the times I get to celebrate that I'm gonna be a Mom!"
I'll try not to take so long with updates from now on.
Read and review, please!
