Krista sat beside her own bed, checking on the wounds of the person occupying it. The person had been bleeding rather badly after the other night's disaster and if it wasn't for her, they probably wouldn't have even survived the night. Once she was done bandaging the wound she had stitched up a few days before, she placed damp cloth atop of the person's head, the water droplets running into his dark hair, making him sigh in relief, the warm water making a big improvement to the pounding in his head.
"There you go, keep that there for awhile." She said softly, smiling gently. "You hit the water pretty hard, not to mention it was freezing."
"Yeah, don't remind me." Levi grumbled, holding the cloth on his head and watching as Krista went to finish up her and his breakfast consisting of eggs she had gotten from the nearby farm. "How did you know I was still alive?" He asked.
"I don't know, I just knew." The blond replied, shrugging her shoulders.
"Well thanks for saving me…" The male said with a faint but genuine smile as he shifted to sit up, keeping the cloth pressed against his head. "Did the others get away?"
"The others?" Krista responded, looking puzzled. She had no idea anyone else was there apart from Levi and Eren. Since Levi was in no fit state to explain at the time, she just assumed that Levi had got out on his own. "I-I didn't see anyone else leave…" Levi's heart sank at the thought of the others being captured, but it was the only explanation he could think of. Afterall, if they had gotten out, they would have come looking for him, right?
"The bastards must have caught them…" He mumbled sadly when another thought came to his mind making him gasp and move to stand quickly, a bad idea on his part. "Wait...Eren! Agh!" He groaned, slumped down again from the pain from both his wounds and aching head.
"Careful! You'll tear the stitches!" Krista scolded louder than she intended, making her cover her mouth for a moment. She cleared her throat and bit her lip. "Eren is fine, Bertholdt got him out." She explained to the male who looked only slightly relieved from the news. He was saddened that Eren didn't get away from the palace but was still glad that the person he loved hadn't perished in the fire. Krista brought over some eggs for the male, sitting opposite him on a log and handing the plate to him. "You need to eat, Levi." She said softly. "You need to keep up your strength."
"You're right." He sighed, taking hold of the plate carefully. He looked down at the food on the plate as he thought to himself of what to do next. His team was locked up as far as he knew, Eren was still trapped in the palace and only god knew if anyone else had died. He'd already lost Petra and he wasn't prepared to let anyone else die. "If i'm going to get back my team and Eren, then I have to get over this quickly." He lifted some of the egg on the fork and held it towards his mouth when he was interrupted by a loud knock on the door, which made Petra jump. She quickly got to her feet and peeked through the window, her eyes widening.
"It's Sherriff Reiner!" She half yelled, half whispered as she closed the curtains tight. Levi started to get up when Krista gently pushed him back down. "Stay here. I'll go see what he wants." She whispered sternly, turning on her heel and leaving the bedroom, shutting the door behind her. She then cleared her throat and calmly moved to the front door, opening it with a kind smile. "Sherriff! What brings you here?" She asked cheerfully. Reiner grinned at her, handing her a scroll as he explained.
"I have come to inform you that the wedding between Prince Jean and Prince Eren will now take place on 14th of this month." He said proudly, seeing it as a huge honour to tell everyone of such news.
"The 14th?" Krista said, opening the scroll and reading the details for herself. "So soon?" She questioned.
"Both of them thought it was best not to wait." Reiner replied, clearing his throat as he prepared himself to change the subject only slightly. "As a valued member of Prince Jean's staff, I am permitted to attend as an honoured guest." He winked at the blond. "And I am also permitted to bring a female guest."
"Oh, I see." Krista said, giggling awkwardly, taking a step back. 'Please don't ask me' She thought to herself.
"And I am hoping you would be the woman to accompany me?" 'Shit'
"I-I'm flattered, Sheriff but…" She stammered, trying to think of an excuse as she avoided his gaze. "You see, i'm...uh...cleaning-"
"Oh don't worry about that, miss" He interrupted her, grinning widely. "All of Nottingham is to attend by law. So your cleaning can wait for one day." Ofcourse Jean would do something like that, his ego couldn't bear being damaged by half the village avoiding it altogether. Now Krista had no choice but to accept, what was she going to say? Ymir was going with her? She hadn't even seen Ymir since the fire at the castle, she wasn't even sure if she was held captive too. With a small sigh, she looked up at the other with a fake soft smile.
"Then I'd be honored." She said politely.
Levi listened from the other room while he ate his breakfast. The two talked for a little while longer before they said their goodbyes followed by the sound of the front door closing. After a few moments, Krista stepped back into the bedroom with a frustrated groan.
"So what did he want?" Levi asked, setting his empty plate aside.
"He wanted to ask me to be his guest to the wedding." She replied irritably, handing the scroll to Levi. "The wedding has been pushed forward to the 14th."
"What date is today?" The raven haired male asked as he read through the scroll's contents.
"8th…" Krista muttered, waiting for the male to erupt.
"Next week?!" The male yelled in surprise, making Krista squeak and jump back. "Sorry." Levi apologised, not meaning to surprise the other. He just couldn't believe it. Why would Eren let the wedding be pushed forward? He never wanted to go through with it in the first place. Levi couldn't help but feel hurt, all he could think was Eren was doing this to help his subjects, but it didn't stop the male from hurting. He was going to lose the man he loved forever and to the man he hated most in the world. Just thinking about that man being anywhere near Eren made his blood boil. There was nothing he could do about it but there was one thing he could do, save his friends. But he knew he couldn't do anything just yet, he knew he needed to rest. 'Just a few days.' He thought to himself. 'Then i'll get them out'
Levi took 5 days to focus on his recovery, letting his wounds heal as best they could before he was headed out the door of Krista's house, the worried blond following behind in protest.
"Wait, you're going on your own?!" Krista gasped, her eyes flying wide. "Levi, you barely made it through this! If I hadn't found you, you'd be dead!" She cried worriedly, following close behind him. Before the male could pick up his bow and quiver, she quickly swiped it and held it behind her back from reach, making the other roll his eyes irritably.
"I know that." Levi replied matter of factly, calmly stepping forward and tugging them out of her grasp. "And I'm grateful to you, but I need to do this or they'll all be hung for treason." Levi then limped his way through the woods while Krista groaned in defeat. She stopped for a moment, spotting a small dagger that had fallen from Levi's holster. She looked it over, her eyes seeming to light up at the sight of it before she finally noticed the distance Levi had gotten. She placed the dagger in its leather case and into her pocket before running after him.
"Levi, wait for me!" She called out.
Bertoldt stood atop a pedestal before the people of Nottingham, a scroll in hand. Amongst the crowd was Krista who only just managed to catch up with Levi, the small male hidden underneath his green hood to conceal his face. "You shouldn't be out here-" She began to scold but the other just held a hand up to silence her.
"Quiet." He said sternly, turning his attention to the man on the pedestal he had begun to speak.
"People of Nottingham! I have an announcement from your future King!" Bertoldt declared before reading from the large scroll. "My adoring subjects. I invite you all to the wedding of myself and Prince Eren." Upon hearing this, Levi's heart sank the male turning quickly "I also would like to pardon the recently deceased Ackerman Hood and anyone who is associated with him upon my fiance's orders. On other matters, I have decided that anyone who cannot pay their taxes shall be sentenced to jail starting from today. The following people are under arrest..." He then proceeded to read the names out, guards arresting anyone who's name was announced.
Unbeknownst to anyone else, Hanji and Erwin were standing in the crowd, managing to stay hidden under their own hoods, having no idea Levi was just metres away from them.
"Oh so that horse faced bastard pardons us after he's dead?!" Hanji huffs, watching as the soldiers arrest the people whose names are being called out. Erwin turned his head only slightly and smirked at the other.
"You sound like Levi, now" He said with a light chuckle and Hanji rolled her eyes in response, a small smile creeping on her lips.
"I know…" She said, her smile starting to turn into a frown. "I miss him, Erwin."
"We all do." He replied softly, taking her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. Hanji sighed deeply, turning to leave when something caught her eyes. A familiar face peeking behind a green hood was walking out of the crowd and towards the back alleys. Without saying a word, Hanji let go of Erwins hand and slinked through the crowds after the caped figure.
"Hanji?" Erwin called out, watching the other in surprise for a moment before deciding to follow her, having no idea what was wrong with her. Hanji hadn't even heard Erwin call after her, she was too concentrated on the figure. She had an idea who it was, but it couldn't be him. She thought her mind was playing tricks on her but why were her feet still moving? Why was she still determined to see who it was? Once she reached the alley and saw the figure walking away from her, she finally couldn't hold back and called out.
"Levi?" The figure stopped, still facing away from her. She called out again, keeping her distance. "Levi, is that you?"
Levi recognised the voice instantly, but he thought his mind was also playing tricks on him. That couldn't be Hanji, could it? He turned his head, finally seeing the person before him, his mind definitely wasn't playing tricks on him.
"Hanji.."
