A/N: Alymariet: Thank you! I'm glad you're liking it. Like I said in the A/N in the last chapter, I haven't abandoned any of my stories. Life has just been life. I'm hoping to update my stories more regularly than what I have in the past. Here's hoping I can.

(Elijah's House)
(Claire's P.O.V.)
As soon as Elijah got back, I followed him into his study and we started to read the books he brought, hoping to find the answer my Uncle neglected to give.
Hours went by. We found nothing.
"He won't give you a hint, will he?" Elijah asked.
"No." I said. "He just said I'm in danger because I'm a Saltzman. Apparently people have been going after our family for generations."
Elijah nods, thinking it over.
"Perhaps we should trace your family tree first?" He said. "Maybe that will help us."
"It's worth a shot." I said.
I slide the book in front of me away and grabbed the notebook and pen beside me and started to write.
"I don't know anyone past my grandparents on either side." I said.
"It's a start." I heard Elijah say. "The Saltzman bloodline is what we need to focus on, anyway."
"Once I was done, I slid the notebook over to him.
Elijah turned the notebook and looked it over.
"We need to take a road trip." Elijah said. He looks up at me. "Are you able to be away from your studies for a couple days?"
"Yeah." I said.
"Then go pack." He said. "We should leave as soon as possible."
I nod and get up to do just that, but stopped.
"Elijah, where are we going?" I asked, looking at him.
"We are going to another one of my homes." He said. "That home, I have many genealogy books on many, many families. It was a hobby of mine for a while."
"I'm learning so much about you today." I said.
Elijah chuckled.

Thanks to the fact Elijah doesn't need sleep, we made it to North Carolina in record time.
"How much farther is your house?" I asked.
"It's not too much farther, actually." He said.
Suddenly, his phone began to ring.
Without taking his eyes off the road, Elijah grabbed his phone and handed it to me.
I take it and looked at it.
"Damon's calling." I said.
"Let it ring." Elijah said.
Soon enough, Damon's name went away and was soon replaced by Stefan's.
"Stefan." I said.
"Let it ring." He said.
"Are you sure?" I asked. "It could be important."
"If it's that important, they can leave a voice mail." Elijah said. "I think what we're doing right now is more pressing than what they could possibly need me for."
"Okay." I said.
About ten minutes later, Elijah pulled onto a dirt road. Seconds later, a brown house came into view.
"Wow," I heard someone say from the backseat.
I looked and saw Alaric had joined us.
"Not only does he have nice hair, but he has nice houses too." Alaric said. "How can he afford them?"
I rolled my eyes and looked at the house again.

(Elijah's North Carolina House)
(Elijah's P.O.V.)
I parked in front of the house and turned the car off.
Claire and I both got out of the car and I opened the back seat to grab my duffle bag full of the books I took from the Mikaelson library and I grabbed Claire's duffle bag that had her essentials.
"Elijah," I heard her say as I closed the door. "Elena's calling."
I sighed and walked over to Claire.
"Go on inside." I said, taking my ringing phone from her. "I'll be there in a minute."
Claire nods, taking her duffle bag from me, and starts walking to the door.
I watch her go as I answered my phone and pressed it to my ear.
"Hello, Elena." I said.
"Elijah." Elena said, sounding relieved. "Damon and Stefan have been trying to call you."
"Well, I am a busy man, Elena." I said. "I can't always answer my phone when it rings."
"Where are you?" Elena asked.
"Away on business." I said.
"You're with that woman, aren't you? " Elena asked. "Elijah, you shouldn't be with her. She's bad news."
"I see you and the Salvatore's have been listening to my siblings." I said. "It's good to know you're on speaking terms."
"Elijah, we don't even know anything about her." Elena said. "For all we know, she could be trying to kill you."
So, Rebekah left out a little detail, I thought. Interesting.
"Elena, I appreciate your concern, but it would be wise of you to not involve yourself in things you know nothing about." I said. "This is the only warning you and your friends are going to get. Stay out of my business. Feel free to pass that along to my dear brother and sister, won't you?"
And with that, I hung up the phone and made my way to the house.
