The days after that seemed to drag by, the students involved in the Shie Hassaikai operation weren't allowed to say anything; it was a covert operation and the last thing that needed to happen was for the mission to go belly up, Eri couldn't afford that. The wait was excruciating and Luna struggled to busy herself in any way possible, Keigo was on a mission with Tokoyami so she wasn't able to talk or see him. Apollo was helping Nighteye get everything moving so they could find out where they were hiding Eri so Luna had barely seen him either in the past two days. What seemed like a lifetime finally ended the night of the second day; which meant one thing, they could finally save a little girl who was at the mercy of a monster. The group once again met outside of Nighteye's agency to discuss the tactics moving forward. Nighteye revealed that Eri was being kept in the main compound, but underground; there were several questions regarding how Nighteye knew this, to which he explained briefly how he monitored one of the members of the Shie Hassaikai and how he frequented a toy shop, looking for specific toys for little girls.
If you didn't know the situation that would be kind of creepy.
Luna thought to herself briefly then went back to listening to what the man in charge was saying. Nighteye then explained how he was able to use his Foresight on the man which led him to discover the young girl's location. His sidekicks went on to explain the time frame of the operation along with how they were able to obtain a warrant from the Police Force, so the only thing left was for them to actually make it into the building. Luna watched her friends as Mirio and Midoriya's moods seemed to do a complete one eighty, their carefree demeanor regaining the spark that it had lost over the last few days. Luna pulled her eyes away from them when she felt a pat on her head, she looked up to be met with arctic eyes.
"You ready?" Apollo looked down at her, he had been wondering how she was taking everything but from what he could tell she was acting as normal as any other day. Luna smiled softly at him, the stress of everything slightly crashing onto her shoulders but she couldn't show that.
"I am," she looked at him determined then, "let's go get Eri."
~
At eight in the morning everyone was waiting in front of the police station. All of the heroes partaking in the rescue mission had been given detailed information about the underground complex they were about to be invading, along with the shortest route to Eri and the available information on the registered Shie Hassaikai members. Luna looked around at everyone, the reality shaping before her.
This is really about to happen. We are really about to storm this place in order to rescue a girl and put a stop to a potentially huge problem that could arise.
Luna brushed down her skirt, cursing herself for not having given Hatsume her new costume design.
I'd be able to move more freely in the new design, I guess this is what I get for dragging my feet.
Luna looked at her fellow classmates, who had their nerves written all over their faces. The Big Three gave nothing away as they tried to calm their partners.
"Is everyone ready?" Nighteye's voice boomed around the area, gaining everyone's attention.
"Yes? Good, then let's begin." Nighteye nodded to all of the heroes following him into this mission and, with those few words, one of the biggest missions Luna had been a part of in Japan began. At eight thirty the party had arrived outside of the headquarters and commenced the operation; one of the police officers in the party had walked up to the intercom system to read the warrant in order for them to search the premises, before he even finished a huge villain by the name of Rikiya Katsukame came crashing through the wall. Dust and debris flew in all directions, along with a few of the policemen. Aizawa, Midoriya and Luna quickly took action and rescued them; returning the officer's safely to the ground. Luna looked at Apollo, who gave her the same look. Somehow, some way, the Shie Hassaikai knew about the mission; they were prepared for it too quickly, they had been tipped off…but by who?
"What is your reason for being here?" Rikiya asked aggressively, not actually wanting a response as he reared back to throw a punch in hopes of knocking more people out of the way; Ryukyu, thinking quickly, changed into her Dragon Form and deflected the punch effectively.
"We can deal with this! Go on ahead!" She yelled to all the other's that weren't in the heat of battle, reassuring them that they could move on. Nighteye led a small group inside, Luna and Apollo joining them.
"Here." They stopped in front of an alcove. Luna looked at him skeptically, but knew that he was leading them exactly where they needed to go. With a few buttons being pressed, the alcove released into a pathway that led to the underground area that they needed to go. Before they could even move, a few of the Yakuza emerged from the entryway. Both of Nighteye's sidekicks and Apollo subdue them quickly which allowed them to continue on their way.
"Darkstar," Luna's father called out to her, "I'm going to stay up here and help out, the last thing they need is to be overrun. Be careful; you all, please, come back safe and with Eri."
She watched her father carefully, this was his way of telling her that he was pulling back and trusting her more. Believing in her. She set her face into a determined look and gave him a nod.
"I'll be back soon." With that, she disappeared into the corridor to join Nighteye and the others. She caught up with them just in time to see that the path they are meant to take was sealed off by a huge wall. Mirio quickly slipped his head through, saying that the hall still continued on; which meant that they were purposely trying to block them from proceeding.
No, they're trying to slow us down. They know that we are going to get there quickly, they're just banking on us being slowed down enough for them to be able to get away.
"Let's do this!" Kirishima and Midoriya yelled together as they burst through the wall which led to another Yakuza showing his face. He used a quirk enhancement which allowed him to merge with the walls and bring the corridor to life, the floors and walls twisting and turning.
"Nope, not today. I get motion sick way too easily." Luna took flight while scanning the walls to see if she could pinpoint where the villain was hiding. Tamaki began to panic a bit, thinking that they wouldn't be able to move forward. Luna looked over to see Mirio reassuring him, then saying that he was going to go on ahead in hopes that he could at least delay Overhaul long enough for reinforcements to come and help him. Taking Overhaul out and getting Eri were the most important things, by whatever means possible, and if anyone could do it that was Mirio. The villain made a huge hole in the ground, in which everyone fell through except Luna. She looked around frantically, hoping to find him but instead was met with one of the walls colliding with her back which sent her flying through the hole and into the ground.
"Darkstar!" Midoriya ran over to her, helping her up.
"If I ever get my hands on him, I'm going to burn him to a crisp." She gritted her teeth against the pain in her back; she was hurt, badly, but she couldn't let it stop her.
Don't think about it, work through it. Recovery Girl can yell at you later.
She attempted to stand straight, which made something pop and her squeal in pain.
"Darkstar, can you continue?" Nighteye looked at her carefully.
"You're damn straight I can," she snapped, then caught herself, "sorry, Nighteye. Yes, I can and will continue on."
He nodded as Midoriya looked at her slightly concerned. She gave him a reassuring smile and squeezed his hand gently as her gaze fell on three other Yakuza; Tamaki stood his ground between them and the group, saying that he could handle them himself and they couldn't risk using all of the pros before they even made it Overhaul. Kirishima was against it, saying that they should all work together to take the three villains on. Luna put her hand on his shoulder.
"Let him do this." She said it carefully and Fat Gum nodded. They all made their way forward even though Kirishima put up quite a fight.
"Suneater is the strongest we have in the group currently, I believe in him and you should too." Fat Gum looked at his intern and Luna could tell that even though he did believe in Tamaki, he was still incredibly worried. They continue down another hall and notice that this one wasn't being manipulated like the other one was.
"Mimic must only be able to control one area at a time." Aizawa made the statement moments before a huge pillar of the wall came shooting out towards him. Fat Gum reacted quickly and pushed Aizawa out of the way, saving him from whatever plan the villain was trying to follow through on.
"Eraser Head, are you alright?" Luna was in the air, not wanting to take the chance that Mimic would make the floors come to life again.
"Yeah, I'm okay, Fat Gum managed to push me out of the way." He stood back up, ready to continue.
"I don't think Fat Gum is the only one we lost," Luna looked around and no longer saw Kirishima, "Red Riot is gone too."
They all looked towards the now sealed wall, hoping that Fat Gum and Kirishima would both be okay. They continued on once more, but before they could get any further Mimic began the same twisting of the floors and walls. Luna winced, even watching the movements making her a little queasy.
Of all the things, it had to be this.
Shaking her head, she sighed when Rock Lock froze the whole area; causing the movements to cease.
"Thank god." Luna sighed out and landed on the ground. Mimic wasn't giving up though; he continued to send the stone walls and floors towards them which Midoriya easily crushed. The last thing he tried in order to stall them was erupting wall from the floor, effectively separating all of them.
"Deku!" Luna banged against the wall that had formed in between them.
"Darkstar, are you alright?" Midoriya yelled back to her.
"Yeah, I think so!" She looked around quickly, trying to think of a way to get out.
"Okay, Eraser Head said to hold your position. We'll come to you as soon as we can." Luna nodded, even though they couldn't see it. She could wait, even though the dull ache in her back had begun to get worse.
"Hello, Kitten." A voice behind her purred. She froze.
"No, you can't be here. I'll take anyone but you." She shook her head, hoping that it was some sort of illusion. A trick of the mind. She turned slowly to be met with those harsh cerulean eyes that haunted her dreams.
"Should we continue where we left off? After all, we did get interrupted." Luna pressed herself against the wall, trying to get as far away from him as possible.
No, don't let him get to you like this. Stand your ground. KICK HIS ASS!
She recovered slightly, eyes narrowing at him; flames swirling around her fists.
"How about I just take you out and call it a day?" She growled and a smile split across Dabi's face.
"Well, come on then." He motioned for her to attack and she obliged. Slamming her foot down, a huge wave of flames crashed towards him. He deflected them with his own, clearing them just in time to see Luna come up with a kick to his jaw. He moved his arms to take the brunt of the impact; Luna grunted, not happy that he was able to block it. She didn't give him a chance to recover though as she moved her arms together in a fluid motion, sending another wave towards him. This time, though, she stayed where she was; a small red flame forming in between her hands. She was able to stabilize it quickly, just in time for Dabi to have cleared the second wave. His eyes landed on hers and she smirked.
"Bye, bye." She clapped her hands together, making the flame collapse as a huge burst ripped outwards towards him. The wall behind him shattered when he got thrown into it; Luna ran towards where he landed and saw that he looked as if he were almost melting. His body began to transition into a sludge like substance.
"You were never actually here." She watched his body continue to slide away.
"Nope, compliments to Twice; he knew how to get to you. See you later, Kitten." His face disappeared and Luna gritted her teeth.
Damn these people.
She turned and looked down the now open hallway, then back to the other wall. She ran up to it and yelled for Midoriya again but got no response this time. She bit her lip as she looked back down the corridor.
What should I do?
Midoriya and the other's found themselves taking on not only Mimic, but also Twice and Toga. Thanks to Toga's taunts though, Midoriya is able to pinpoint where Mimic was and use his Full Cowl - Shoot Style to break the roof open and reveal Mimic's true body. Aizawa nullified Mimic's quirk, which rendered him useless; thanks to the betrayal of the League of Villains they were finally able to put a stop to Mimic's meddling. Midoriya walked up to the remaining wall, the one that was separating them from Luna and the hallway they needed to continue onward.
"Hey, Darkstar, if you're near the wall you should back up. I'm about to come through." He waited but heard no response, which meant that she probably wasn't near the wall. He crashed through it to reveal that the other side was completely scorched, clearly from a fire fight, and Luna was nowhere to be seen.
"Eraser Head…" Midoriya looked at his teacher slowly as Aizawa, too, processed the scene in front of him.
"She went on, she's going to support Mirio." He stated, trying to quell the slight panic that he felt. The League of Villains was involved and she was separated from everyone else, what if they took her again?
"But -"
"Deku," He looked at Midoriya evenly, "she went on, we need to go on too."
Midoriya saw the look in Aizawa's eyes and knew that he needed to drop it. If the worst case scenario happened, which they were hoping was not the case, then they would handle it after they finished with the mission at hand; they were already down to less than half of the group, they couldn't afford the manpower to go after her if she was taken again. As much as it gutted both Midoriya and Aizawa. Meanwhile, Mirio had finally managed to catch up with Overhaul, Chrono and Eri both with him as well.
"I don't know why you all are going through all of this for the girl. She doesn't want to be rescued because you are no hero." Overhaul taunted, but Mirio was unfazed. He knew better, he saw her; he knew that being saved was exactly what she wanted. Annoyed by the fact that Mirio was not backing down, Overhaul looked at him carefully. The moment their eyes met something began to affect Mirio, his equilibrium felt off. Unbalanced. The quirk belonged to a villain that had been hiding up until that point, another villain joined as well; one that has a gun who aimed it at Mirio. The gun went off and Mirio was able to avoid it by letting the bullet pass completely through his body. A tense battle began but ended just as quickly when Mirio gained the upper hand and struck down both of the villains. With a sigh, he continued on, hoping to once again make it to the little girl that was suffering all by herself. Mirio caught up with them once more, he threw a punch to try and catch Overhaul off balance. He quickly dodges to which Mirio countered with a kick that phased through Eri's face but then landed against Chrono. In a swift motion, Mirio grabbed Eri and held her close to him.
"Don't worry, I'll become your hero." He whispered to her and she looked up at him in awe.
"Eri, come back here. You're a disease that does nothing but break people." Overhaul growled at the little girl, who in response, clung to Mirio.
"I'm not letting her go this time; how could you be so cruel to your own child?" Overhaul pauses at this.
"I have no children." He stated as he removed his gloves. Overhaul used his quirk to break the ground apart and reshape it into spikes which he then sent towards the hero. Mirio quickly dodged while keeping Eri out of harm's way, but he quickly realized that Overhaul was willing to hurt Eri if it meant getting her back.
"If you want her so badly, then why risk her getting hurt?" Mirio yelled, continuing to dodge and protect the small girl.
"I can always restore her, she knows the feeling first hand. Just ask her," Overhaul taunted more which spiked Mirio's rage, "tell me, what do you plan to do if Eri gets hurt? You can't go anywhere since I've sealed off any escape routes."
At this point, Chrono managed to get back up and aimed a gun at Mirio. Overhaul destroyed all of the spikes so that his right hand could have a better shot at the hero; thinking quickly Mirio hid behind his cape which made Chrono miss the shot. Mirio slipped into the ground and took Chrono by surprise, effectively rendering him unconscious once more; using the opportunity, Overhaul moved to go after Eri since she was alone now, but Mirio retaliated by landing a solid hit on him.
"Do you know why heroes wear capes?" Mirio asks as one of the walls explodes.
"It's to wrap up little girls in pain!" Luna screamed as she slammed a fist into the ground, flames swirling then launching after the villain, who managed to break them apart before they could do much damage.
"I'll admit you're strong, but right now…I'm even stronger!" Mirio called out. A villain, one that Luna had passed on her way to the room, appeared ready to support wherever he was needed. Overhaul threw a gun at him and told him to shoot Mirio.
"I can take the girl without a problem." Overhaul narrowed his eyes on Luna and she glared back, not knowing what was about to happen. In one fluid motion the villain aimed his gun at Eri and fired.
"Eri!" Luna yelled and launched herself towards the girl, ready to take the bullet if she could but was stopped by Overhaul. She blinked, panic surging through her veins, and saw Mirio appear in front of the girl; taking the bullet himself.
"Lemillion!" Luna managed to shake past Overhaul and fly herself over to the two. Skidding to a stop, she took one look at him and knew immediately from the look on his face. Even though he managed to save Eri from enduring even more pain, it had resulted in him losing his quirk. Luna froze.
"Foolish boy! A diseased boy with foolish dreams like yours are lost now!" Mirio threw Chrono's body at Overhaul and landed a solid blow that broke Overhaul's arm. Luna pulled Eri close to her and smiled at the young girl, careful not to accidentally burn the girl.
"Don't worry, everything is going to be alright now." She brushed Eri's hair behind her ear as the girl stared at her. Even though Luna's quirk is activated, Eri remembered her from before. Luna turned her attention back to Mirio and let Eri go, but stuck close to her. Luna watched in awe as Mirio continued to protect Eri in every way that he could, all without his powers.
"Now that is a true hero." Luna's eyes shined, reminding her a lot of the final battle that All Might had against All for One. She scooped up Eri when a rogue spike came shooting towards them, Luna got them out of harm's way and yelled for Mirio when she saw that Overhaul had backed him into a corner. She sat Eri down softly, told her to stay and catapulted herself towards the monster in front of her.
"I don't think so!" In one huge punch fortified with flames, that results in a massive explosion and Luna tweaking her back even more, she sent Overhaul flying just in time for Midoriya to come crashing through the wall; ready to join the fight. Aizawa immediately nullified Overhaul's quirk as Nighteye made his way to Mirio. Midoriya landed next to Luna as they both watched Overhaul like a hawk. Nighteye gave Mirio his praises while securing Eri, ready to make a break. Overhaul stood slowly, knowing that he was the one backed into a corner now, Luna and Midoriya took a defensive stance; ready for anything that might happen.
"Chrono!" Overhaul called out. Time slowed as the right hand moved to take out Luna, Midoriya and Aizawa; thinking quickly, even though their time was slowed, Aizawa managed to push his two students out of the line of fire at the last moment. Unfortunately Aizawa is forced to blink which resulted in Overhaul being able to use his quirk once more, the moment that he could he created a huge fissure of spikes that filled the battleground. Pissed, Overhaul refused to give up and sacrificed one of his men in order to heal himself and assume a new, monstrous form.
"Wait, he can do that? Isn't this cheating?" Luna yelled as she gazed at the new form.
"I'll admit that Lemillion was the stronger man, however it was all for nothing. I'm ending this now, return Eri to me at once!"
"I don't think so!" Luna and Midoriya said in unison as they moved to attack him.
"It's a shame that your hero over there is useless now, at least with him you had a fighting chance!" Overhaul countered their attacks, Nighteye and Midoriya both looked at Mirio quickly.
"His quirk is gone," Luna confirmed what the two were beginning to put together, "they've perfected the bullets."
Luna launched after him again, Midoriya close behind her. Overhaul moved to dodge Luna, but suffered burns even still, and managed to see through Midoriya's movements.
"You're very unimpressive, aren't you?" Overhaul turned his taunts to Midoriya now. Rage surged through Luna as a kick collided with Overhaul's face, but because of his monstrous appearance and the agonising pain in her back, it is nowhere near the strength it needed to be. Backing off to prepare for another attack, Luna almost missed the seal that Nighteye had thrown; that managed to push Overhaul back on its own.
"Nighteye!" Luna looked back at the pro, who was stepping up to take the villian on.
"Deku, Darkstar, get Lemillion and Eri to safety. I'll handle this." The two students nod in response, Midoriya made his way over to them but before Luna could move something twisted around her hair and pulled her backwards. She yelped out as she looked to see that one of Overhaul's claws had grabbed a fist full in order to keep her from leaving.
"Darkstar!" Midoryia yelled for her, but she gave him a look that said he needed to forget about her and go. Before he got Mirio and Eri out of the room, he spotted a knife that Chrono had lost and managed to kick it over to Luna secretly. She looked down at it and used her flames to lift it to her hand.
"You shouldn't let such long hair flow freely, it's the perfect thing for someone to grab. What are you going to do now pro hero? Do you really want to risk her life?" He pulled her towards him further and Luna released her quirk, it surprised him slightly. She gripped the knife tightly as she glared at him.
"He won't have to worry about that. Oh, and thanks for the advice." She sliced through her hair, effectively escaping his grasp. Nighteye jumped into action after that as Luna flew out of the way, getting away from the two effectively. Ducking and dodging, Luna tried to make it through the battlefield that she was one so that she could meet up with Midoryia, but right before she managed to make it out something halted her. A sound. She turned back slowly to see Nighteye being pierced by Overhaul's spikes.
"No!" Luna screamed and flew towards Overhaul, her flames propelling her quickly. A hard kick catching him in the side of the head, he recovered and sent a swarm of spikes after her this time. She jumped around and in between them quickly.
"Solar flare!" Spinning her body quickly, she's able to take out a large number of the spikes and open another path for her to be able to attack Overhaul. She landed on her feet roughly, the impact ripping through her back. Gritting her teeth, she lunged at him; getting into close quarters. She threw punch after kick, all fortified by her flames. Dodging most of his spikes and only receiving a few scratches, she backed off. Ready to charge up Red Giant, hoping that it would be one of the only things that could turn the fight to her favor. Jumping and dodging as well as focusing on the flame was taking everything in her. Just as she got it powered up she felt a sharp pain rip through the right side of her collar bone; looking to see a spike had punctured through her chest. Holding back a scream she loses grip on her power and it explodes, breaking the spike apart and sending her flying backwards. Meanwhile, Midoryia was trying to help Mirio and Eri out of the underground when he realized that Luna still hadn't joined them yet.
"Mirio, can you go on without me? Something is wrong, Luna hasn't joined us yet so I'm going to go back to see if she might need help." He looked at Mirio carefully, who nodded.
"Go, I've got this." Midoriya nodded and ran back the way they had come. The first thing he saw when he got back to the room was Nighteye, spikes sticking out of his body, not moving. The second thing he saw was Luna's body getting pierce through as well. One through her right side and another through her left hip; Luna coughed raggedly as she released flames that made the spikes burst. She fell to her knees. Overhaul growled, clearly frustrated by her getting in his way, as he punctured her through the wrists and ankles with thinner spikes, lifting her into the air. She cried out this time.
This is nothing if it means that we can save that little girl from a monster like this, if Midoriya was able to get them to safety.
He walked up to Luna slowly, taking her in. Her blood pooling beneath her. He grabbed a fist full of her chopped up hair, pulling her head up so that he could look at her in the eyes.
"You will no longer be a thorn in my side, girl." Before he could deal the final blow, Midoryia's heel collided hard against his head, Midoriya grabbed Luna gently and laid her next to where Nighteye was.
"What are you doing? You were supposed to be getting Mirio and Eri out of here." Luna whispered out, unable to manage anything more. Nighteye had regained a bit of consciousness to see his intern standing before them.
"Midoriya, you need to get out of here," Nighteye breathed out, "stay with Mirio and Eri, get away from Overhaul."
Nighteye coughed up a huge amount of blood after that.
"No, I'm going to stay and fight."
"You won't survive," Nighteye stated, "I've seen your future, you die here."
Luna's eyebrows pulled together as tears welled up in her eyes, she looked at Midoriya who looked determined.
"I'm going to show you that it's possible to change your future." He turned his back to them, ready to face off against the monster. Luna's consciousness began to fade in and out as her blood soaked her clothes; everytime she mustered enough strength to open her eyes, Midoriya and Overhaul were in a different stage of their fight. The last time she opened her eyes, the ceiling had been blown apart and Midoriya was reaching for Eri.
Get her, Midoriya.
Then she was gone, the loss of blood finally taking her consciousness. The fight had finally made it to the topside as Ochaco and Tsu began to prepare to move Nighteye.
"Where is Luna?" He mumbled out and the girls looked at each other. They hadn't seen her, though with all the rubble it was quite possible that she was buried; as they looked around they spotted a smear of blood near where Nighteye was. The friends looked at each other as they began to move the rocks, uncovering their classmate.
"Oh my god, Luna." Her body was beaten and broken and she was barely breathing.
"We have two!" Ochaco called out as she used her Zero Gravity to levitate the two injured people. Once they were on the surface they were able to watch the final moments of the fight, Midoriya going above and beyond. Saving Eri. Nighteye smiled, he really had changed his future. Then the sirens came softly, then loudly. They loaded up Nighteye and then began working on Luna.
"Keep her stable!" People were yelling at each other.
"Luna, Luna!" Apollo made it through the crowd and froze when he saw his nearly lifeless daughter laying on a gurney being worked on.
"We need to move her!" Someone else called out.
"Wait, that's my daughter!" Apollo called out and one of the EMTs looked at him, pain in his eyes.
"I'm so sorry but -"
"I'm losing her!" The EMT working on Luna called out. They shut the doors and took off, following the same path that Nighteye's ambulance had. Apollo stood there, his knees feeling like they were about to give out from underneath him. His phone vibrated, pulling him back to reality. He had brought it with him in case they needed to call in reinforcements; he looked down at the screen seeing the name flashing.
Keigo.
He answered the phone, a numb feeling coming over him. Would he lose his daughter too?
"Hey, I heard about the mission and how you guys got Overhaul in custody! I wanted to say good job, that couldn't have been an easy feat!" His voice was cheery and it nearly brought Apollo to tears.
"Keigo." His voice broke and from the other side of the phone he knew that Keigo's heart had dropped. The he knew that Keigo knew whatever was wrong had to do with Luna.
"What? What happened?" Panic seeped into Keigo's voice.
Please don't say it, please don't say it.
"It's Luna." Keigo had jumped up at this point, grabbing everything he could possibly need. He asked a mountain of questions which Apollo could barely answer; the one thing that he knew was which hospital Luna was going to but it didn't look good. Keigo took off, racing against time. Hoping beyond hope that everything would be okay.
