She was just sitting there on the cart, safe with the others. Sheandre was beside her, her mother was also on her side while her father walks at the side of the cart, overseeing, she looked back to the distance knowing that he's there all alone. And he held them all off by himself because person that would have held them off alone would have died immediately the moment they touch him and slaughters them all, but he endured, by the grace of Elune he endured.
And when soldiers from the garrison arrived earlier, her heart sinks to her stomach after they had told her that they had been ordered by him to leave him behind. It felt like everything is just a cruel joke played upon her, but this is indeed what is happening in reality. She felt sick knowing that the likely hood of him never coming back is inevitable. She doesn't feel like crying, no, she had shed so much tears before but tears doesn't describe what she is feeling. She just felt shocked, while she sits still, her heart pounding inside her chest while the words of the soldiers repeated inside her head that Galvane was fighting alone.
Her eyes were looking back to the direction from where they have left the village, already it had been a few hours since they had fled, and the coast of Ashenvale is near so that they would make camp near the shores while the ships are readied just in case they are needed, all they have to do is to sit down and wait. While all Nilsha have to do is to sit down and wait also.
"We got word that the bridge that separated the village got destroyed. The sentinels said that they haven't seen any enemies on the area, and their word is true considering they have eyes everywhere in the forest. It seems we are safe for the time being." She overhears the conversation, she turned her attention to them, hoping that there would be something about Galvane. "He wasn't seen, but I'm sure he held them off, the amount of dead bodies piling up on the bridge was horrifying they said on how much one human can do."
Nilsha walks up to him, and found out it was the village garrison' captain. He was the last person that she had seen with Galvane, and when he and the rest of the man made flight along with the villagers, she knew already that Galvane stayed alone. Now she just wanted to know if whether or not- "Is he alive?"She asks, finally catching the mans attention to her. Judging from his expression, the way his eyes tried to avoid hers, she knew the answer perhaps, she just wanted to hear it from the one who knows.
He looks at her with a mortified expression, his mouth opening and closing in an effort to find an answer. When Galvane ordered his men to leave him be, to face all of them alone and to hold on to the bridge alone, the answer to his fate was obvious enough. "I-I, Galvane's, he's...I'm not sure. The bridge was destroyed-"
Nilsha cuts him off, yet she was soft on her approach. "You don't have to explain captain, it is obvious enough what the outcome would be." She says softly, but her tone becomes much sharper from the here after. "I just find it confusing, how this 'human' whom everyone in the village hated and wanted to leave was the one who stayed to defend and sacrifice himself. I'm just disappointed you were no different from the villagers captain, I thought you were a friend of his." She says, her tone was filled with venom.
"I-we tried to stay with him-"
She turns her back to him. "Save it captain, I had found my answer already, have I not?" And she had the final say as she walks back to her family who watched their conversation. Sitting down beside her mother and sister while her father sat down across them. Nilsha's eyes were starting to sting, having to rapidly blink many times over as the slightest trickle of tears began to show, covering her face with her hands, she didn't sob. She could only wonder what his last moments be, when the last thing that she had said to them before they parted, was when she says that she doesn't know if she still loves him after the truth had been revealed to her. At least she knows that he loved her so much. Elune, my goddess, I already accepted the consequences of loving a man from an another race, where their lives are short lived? but why must I never got the chance to with their short lives? I am a priestess of your temple, have I not served you dutifully?
Nilsha's sadness was overwhelming. While she thought of not crying in the open, her emotions betrayed her as her sobs came like a waterfall. Her grit teeth futile in trying to stop the ache of her bleeding heart. While she cried, her mother and sister gather their arms around her in an effort to console the crying woman, while the father on the other hand looked away, feeling a bit of shame in him after the revelation these events. His daughter's mate, despite considering an "enemy" of their people, had more to give to help them than himself could give to help them.
10 days later...
Alteria slips into the tent as she brought over their daily rations. It had been deemed safe by everyone, as the sentinels that surveyed the area mentioned that the broken bridge made it impossible for the Twilight Hammer to cross over to their area, river was too big for them to cross. It seemed that the Goddess had answered their prayers once more and it made her faith even more tightened to her. Looking at their daily rations consisting of fish and fruits, it was bountiful, the forests had always been generous to them and their generosity is greatly needed at their time of need.
Their tent was large enough to accommodate all four of them in individual beds, their Allies of the other continent arrived just days before, providing all the refugees the comfort that they had need. It seems her mate had been proven wrong time and time again from the couple of days, even conceding to a degree that he was wrong, but still, he held on to his views on their allies, albeit less radical. The Twilight Hammer, that's what everyone have called them, cults consisting of orcs, humans and other races that had worshiped Deathwing to bring destruction to the world tree. The world has just recently healed from the war with the Undead Scourge, and now another came, it seems that they wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully in the coming times. And she would just pray to her Goddess that family would be protected.
Her younger daughter, Sheandre approached her and gladly took the rations from her mother's hand, everyone was well, everyone was eating except for one. "How is she?" She asks, though she didn't have to, as she judged her younger daughter's expression, it seemed that nothing is well unless everyone is in her family is well, and two of those aren't born yet. "Just go outside for now Sheandre, I'll take it from here." She says as she took the ration from her, leaving her alone.
Alteria slips to her daughter's tent, seeing her just laying there throughout the day and night, only leaving just to bathe in the nearby moon wells then just coming back to lay down and stop moving. And she can't blame her, when her own chosen mate was shunned by her own family and people only to be the one who lays down his life, leaving her alone.
She sat next to her at the edge of the bed, Nilsha didn't even bother to look at her direction as she just continued to stare at nothing. She wasn't sleeping that is, just staring into nothing, trying to make time pass as fast as she could. Softly she nudged her daughter. "Nilsha, I brought food for you to eat." She says, and as expected, her daughter responded with nothing, that's all she had answered in the past days ever since the attack. Alteria leans on to her daughter as she brought herself closer. "Nilsha, I know your hungry, but you need to eat, it is not safe for the children inside you." She had not responded still, only shifting to a more comfortable position.
She brought the food at a table beside the bed and takes a chair for her to sit on. "I know it is hard, for you to lose your mate, knowing you are with child."
"Hard...it's hard for me to accept." Nilsha finally speaks, finally showing her face that was raked with tears, her hair was a mess, as if it hadn't been combed in how many days, there was no radiance to her skin as she looked pale. "I know what I brought myself when I professed my love to him, even though father didn't accept it. I wonder what grandmother or grandfather would have reacted knowing I had taken a human mate, probably the same."
"One Century and nothing more they say on how old a human can get. I accepted that, thinking those hundred will be fruitful and joyful." She paused for a few moments, clutching her stomach tightly, smiling at the thought of her ignorance. "How wrong I was." She ends, flicking her elbow at her mother's touch. The grief will follow her in all of her days that is for sure.
Alteria slowly leans in and removes a lock of hair that was out of place on Nilsha's face. "There is still a life to be joyful and fruitful Nilsha." She suggests. "You have your daughters, and if goddess wills it, perhaps in the future you'll find lo-" Nilsha cuts her off as she suddenly sits up, her suggestion sickens her, knowing her grief still is so new.
"I will have a joyful life, with my daughters." She says before adding. "A joyful and fruitful life...in Stormwind, in the restaurant that we were supposed to build together again once all these events pass." Nilsha paused watching the expression on her mother's face. "Just me, my daughters and my beloved friends that awaits be there."
Her mother shakes her head. "But Nilsha, will you not let your daughters be part of our lives?" She asks. "They-"
"Will be shunned and mocked as an abomination, we already know how our people view the other races mother, let alone children born from such union. They stood no chance here, nor will I ever let them!" She says before adding as she snickered. "Finding love again? How many suitors actually tried to court me, and most of the time in failure, and when I give them a chance, I found out they are nothing but arrogant children. The love for the one who saved my life mattered to me, and no one else." She said with finality in her tone.
Alteria raised her brow. "Saved your life?" She asks, suddenly alarmed at the thought of her daughter being ever close in danger. "Did something happen back in Stormwind that I should know?" Alteria replies, her maternal voice finally starts to uncover as there is a bit of authority in her tone.
"He saved me when terrorists attacked the district of Stormwind, I surely would have died there had it not for him." Nilsha's confirmation made Alteria widen her eyes. "And the burning scars around his face? That is the result of it to save me."
Alteria shook her head. "You could have said something earlier! Instead, you chose not to say anything until now! You're father could have changed his mind knowing his own daughter was close to death!" She exclaims, yet Nilsha was having none of it.
"Father? He would likely just thanked him for saving my life and demands his face to never be seen in his household again, you know that mother..." She trails off as she lays on the bed once more, no longer interested in continuing the conversation. "You know that..." She said. "And don't concern about whether or not I need help on raising my daughters, I have the finances, Galvane is a rich man materially, he had shared his wealth with me, I need not anything. Just leave the food on the bed." Nilsha said, not even sparing a glance on her mother that tried to touch her shoulder but decided not to against her better judgement. She had heard her leave that tent, finally leaving her alone to brood once more.
Nilsha sat up beside the bed, feeling unable to sleep as she just sat there, staring at a wall. Her eyes sting, more than it should she feels as she rapidly blinks it out, only for tears to come out. She tried to wipe it with her hands only for more to come out uncontrolled. Nilsha shakes her head and decides to allow her emotions to pour, gritting her teeth she cried out. "I hate you Galvane..." She sobs as her lungs gasps for air, her sobs felt suffocating as she tries to let her grief out. "Why would you leave me, you stupid bastard..." Nilsha cries out, her cries came out painful as she tries to suppress her sobs.
She then remembers the last time they truly had talk, where her anger overcame her when she had found out about the truth of Galvane and his dealings with the Ebon Blade. Where she had threatened him to leave him, to the point that she herself thought that she no longer loves him, thought time had eased her anger, Galvane did not know that. "I love you so much Galvane...I love you so much, please, please I didn't mean any of it, I love you so much." She pits her hand on her face as she just rocks back n forth, allowing herself to wallow in grief.
"I'm sorry-I'm sorry."
