What Is Real Justice?
Lena Oxton, AKA Tracer, everyone know her, and many loves her. Those who don't are likely a villain. She was the youngest person ever inducted into Overwatch's experimental flight program. She was handpicked to test the prototype of a teleporting fighter, the Slipstream. But during its first flight, the aircraft's teleportation matrix malfunctioned, and it disappeared. Lena was presumed dead. But she wasn't dead. She reappeared months later, but her ordeal had greatly changed her. Now her molecules had been desynchronized from the flow of time. Suffering from chronal disassociation, she was a living ghost, disappearing for hours and days at a time. Even for the brief moments she was present, she was unable to maintain physical form.
It wasn't until her good friend Winston designed the chronal accelerator, a device capable of keeping Lena anchored in the present. In addition, it gave her the ability to control her own time, allowing her to speed it up and slow it down at will. With her newfound skills, she became one of Overwatch's most effective agents. Since Overwatch's dissolution, Tracer has continued to right wrongs and fight the good fight wherever the opportunity presents itself. She would get the chance to be a hero again when Winston leat out the recall, and gave his great speech that the world needed Overwatch again.
But first things first, she needed to get her old gear back. Since every Overwatch activity is illegal now, her continued hero work lead her to being caught and her weapons were confiscated. She was only allowed to keep her chronal accelerator since she needed it to exist. But fighting the good fight is difficult without her trusty weapons, so she needed to get them back... which would include doing another illegal thing: Breaking in to the place that had them and steal them back.
Lena snuck in to the warehouse that had her stuff. It was well guarded, but while Lena may be known for her love of talking and making jokes, she knew how to be sneaky when she needed to be. And her blink ability also helped her dash from cover to cover without being caught.
"Sneak sneak" She whispered to herself as she finally reached the room that had her gear. She managed to get inside and found her old stuff "It's not really stealing if I take back what belongs to me".
She got her pistols and pulse grenades. Alright, now she is geared up and ready to go. Now she just needs to get out of here. Getting out was just as easy as getting in, and she let through a hatch on the roof. But once she was on the roof and was about to leave. A bright light shined on her. She covered her eyes before looking up.
"Oh bullocks..." She said to herself as a woman with mechanical wings hovered in front of her.
This woman's name was Kayle. Ever since she was a child she was a strong believer of justice, and that all crime needs to face it. Regardless of their reasoning. She spent years working hard to become a fighter for justice, which ultimately would land her the position with a Special Riot Prevention Service. She was now outfitted with a Riot air combat outfit, which allows her to fly around and making it a lot harder for any criminal to escape.
"Lena Oxton, code name Tracer. You just broke more than one law tonight. I knew you were never the brightest member of Overwatch, but I didn't believe you were this stupid" Kayle said with no humor in her tone.
"Sorry Kayle, but this gear belongs to me. They were made for me by Overwatch" Lena said.
"Not anymore. Overwatch are outlawed, that means you are now in possession of illegal weapons. Put them down and surrender, now" Kayle ordered.
"Kayle listen to me. The world is falling apart. Overwatch can help make things right again" Lena tried to reason.
"Overwatch's time is over. You had your chance, but the world don't want you anymore. I am not ignorant of your past good deeds. Last time we met, I let you go out of respect for all the good you did. But I warned you, if you ever try to play hero again, I would bring you in. And you didn't listen. Now put down the weapons and surrender. You are now under arrest" Kayle said as she took out a sword, which had blue energy around it.
Lena sighs as she whips out her pistols and aims them at Kayle "You know I can't do that, Kayle".
"Of course not. Just like my cousin, Angela, you are to stubborn to understand when people don't want your help" Kayle said before she dashed towards Lena.
The two fly past each other, with Lena's shots and Kayle's slice both hitting the air. Lena lands on the ground, spins around, and fires more shots at the young justice officer, but Kayle dodges the attacks by darting through the air. Eventually, Kayle closed the distance and began swinging her blade, but Lena manages to avoid it as Kayle flies up and charged the energy in her suit to unleash several energy shots. Lena dodges each shot by blinking, blitzing across the lab in a trail of blue. Kayle drops her guard with a confused gasp, which is long enough for Lena to appear next to her and kick her in the face.
Knocked of balance because of her wings, Kayle goes flying a wall. Though she picks herself up quick, just in time to see Lena blink herself away, forcing Kayle to give chase. Lena fires more rounds at Kayle, but the Riot officer deflects each shot with her blade, before dashing towards the Overwatch member. Lena backflips into the air. With this, she tosses a pulse bomb at Kayle, knowing her suit can take it. But Kayle is unfazed and merely flies towards it. She then slices straight through the bomb, causing two halves to fall far to the side and explode harmlessly, much to Lena's shock. Before she can react, Kayle slams in to her before delivering a punch to Lena's chin. While her opponent staggers, Kayle makes something cover her blade's sharp ends, turning it in to a blunt weapon like a baton, and begins pummeling Lena with it. Lena tries to recall and shoot herself backwards, but Kayle easily catches up to her thanks to her wings, and bashes Lena's Accelerator with her blunt blade. It cracks and sparks, before slowly fading away.
With her pistols out of commission as well, Lena tries to engage Kayle in hand to hand combat, but isn't very successful. Kayle avoids all of her kicks and delivers a kick in to Lena's stomach. Kayle the flies in to the air before coming crashing down and pins Lena down with her blade inches away from her neck. She pressed the blunt blade against Lena's neck, had it been in it's sharp mode, she would've cut Lena's throat open.
"Stay down! Haven't you realized yet? I could've killed you anytime I wanted. Do the right thing and just surrender. I promise your past actions will be taken in to consideration and you will rechive a fair punishment" Kayle said.
"I want to do the right thing. Which is why I have no other choice but to do this" Lena said as her Accelerator starts right back up. With Recall, she quickly reverses her own time until the moment she threw her Pulse Bomb, which places her right above Kayle with the explosive. Kayle barely lets out a sound before the bomb drops on her and blasts her away, her suit taking the brunt of the blast.
Lena Blinks and shoots across the ground, catching up to Kayle and kicking her in the face to increase the impact of her landing. Kayle gets up and takes a swing with her weapon, but Lena jumps up, kicking her in the face again as she back flips off. By Blinking repeatedly, she speeds around Kayle in a circle while hitting her with her pistols, rather than shooting her. She kept this up as she speed-blitzed Kayle from every direction.
Kayle was growing more and more frustrated before she charged the energy in her suit and blasted the ground, knocking Lena of balance and causing her to crash. As Lena was getting back up, Kayle split her one blade it to two and began laying in to Lena, beating her down with her blades, like they were batons. Once again Lena was lucky the blades weren't in their sharp modes, or she would've been cut open like a fish. Kayle finished her onslaught by jumping up and slamming both her feet in to Lena's face, making Lena's head slam in to the ground.
Kayle removed the safety covers from her blades and pressed the now sharp blades near Lena's neck "Last chance... surrender... or so help me...".
"I will only say this once. Get the hell of my sister from another mister" Came an familiar voice.
Both women looked and Lena smiled "Riven...".
It was indeed Riven, standing near them with her energy blade in hand "Was I not clear?".
Kayle narrowed her eyes "Riven. Another Overwatch agent. Are you back to break the law as well?".
"If the law tells me not to save people who needs help. Then you bet your ass I will break it. Given you and your little trooper club has been completely useless" Riven said bluntly.
Kayle growls as she flies up "All I am trying to do is protect people! From law less villains like you!".
She flies towards Riven at full speed. Riven waited for her to get close enough before using a move Genji taught her. She leaps over Kayle and slices of both her wings, causing the flying Riot trooper to crash in to the ground. Kayle spat out some blood, but once again her suit took most of the damage... but now her suit was out of power and missing it's wings. Her flight and energy attacks were useless now. Still refusing to give up, She charged Riven with both her blades. But Riven was far more skilled in close combat than Lena was, and Kayle had lost her biggest advantages. So Riven easily knocked one of Kayle's blades out of her hand and when Kayle moved to attack with the other one, Riven grabbed her arm before kneeing her in the gut.
Kayle fell to her knees, coughing violently "I will... not... give up... justice must be-".
"Oh get over yourself already. Do you really believe your own fantasies that much?" Riven asked in annoyance "You don't fight for justice at all. You are trying to keep real heroes from protecting people".
"You are not heroes! You are outlaws! No different from criminals! I serve the law, I protect the innocent!" Kayle snapped.
Riven shook her head "No, you are only protecting yourself. You are scared. Scared that if the world embraces Overwatch again, you will become irrelevant. You are scared that you will not longer be needed".
"Shut up!" Kayle said.
"Wonder what Angela would think if she saw what became of her precious cousin. The one she once performed surgery on, which saved your life" Riven said.
"Leave Angela out of this!" Kayle demanded.
"Sure, I can't speak for her. But if you really want to help people. Then stop being a law woman, and start being a hero" Riven said before she walked to Lena and helped her up "And you better stay away from Emily. I already broke the legs of the last one who kept her under surveillance".
Lena glared at Kayle when she heard that "If you get anywhere near Emily, you are dead! Got it!".
Kayle said nothing and the two heroes walked away. She hated to admit it. But she had lost... she had failed.
Soon Riven and Lena were alone and Riven began to speak "Well, that wa something. Are you alright-".
Suddenly, Lena wrapped her arms around Riven's neck and gave her a mighty hug "I missed you so much, sis!".
Riven smiled and hugged her back "I missed you too, Lena...".
They hugged each other for several minutes, savoring their reunion. No need to worry about Emily. Riven made sure she is guarded by an old friend. Now, they have a world to save.
