Hello, my lovely readers. It looks like Kol is having a very good day-good luck to everyone else! On with the show...
Mother Approved Ch. 13: Is There Such a Thing as Too Much?
A smell permeated the air of the Mystic Falls High football field. It was not sweat. Or the sweet scent of a freshly open wound that made Kol Mikaelson's mouth water. His nostrils flared. His eyes closed and he inhaled this new perfume. Eyes flicking open, they narrowed and his head turned in the direction of his prey. A sharp gasp alerted him to Caroline Forbes becoming acutely aware of the scent, too. Their eyes met and without a word; they drifted away from the cheerleading practice session. Both vampires were on the hunt for whatever mouth-watering goodness led them astray.
"Kol. Caroline." Esther Mikaelson had just rounded the metal bleachers as the vampires followed the scent. With a smile, Esther's fingers went down to a cloth napkin. She lifted it to reveal a set of blueberry scones. "Hungry, darlings?" Lifting the wicker basket, she offered her baked treats to them.
Never having smelled a scone that smelled so good; Kol reached in and grabbed up three. One, he popped straight into his mouth. The other two he held in his hands. "Remember to chew," Esther said with another smile.
Caroline grabbed a scone, too. And like Kol, she seemed ravenous as she began to take bites out of it. Soon the treat was gone. She licked her fingers and looked at the basket. "Can I have another one?" the blonde asked. Her hand was already moving to take one. "Of course, dear. Take one for Niklaus, as well. Kol took three."
Kol looked at his excess of scones. "One of of them is for Bonnie." He reminded himself to not eat Bonnie's scone before popping the extra one into his mouth. In human life, his mother baked well, but nothing she ever made had left him with this insatiable hunger. His eyes went back to the basket and it took all of his impulse control to not snag the basket and make a run for it.
"Hi, Mrs. Mikaelson!" Kiki called as the other cheerleaders rounded the bleachers. "So, that is what smells so good. We had no idea what that smell was." Her eyes went to the basket and Kol felt a desire to snarl at her. "Could we get some of those?" The girl licked her lips.
"No!" Kol snapped. Kiki's eyes flicked to him.
Caroline put a hand on Kol's chest. "You'll have to excuse him. He's on a diet, and we need to get to your house. For class." With a hard shove, Caroline made Kol lean backwards but not lose his footing. "Come on, Kol. We have to pick up Bonnie. You have a scone to give her."
"Bet that's not all he plans on giving her," Kiki said and a few of the girls giggled.
"Kol!" Caroline took hold of Kol's arm and tugged him away.
"Have a good day at school!" Esther called.
Kol allowed Caroline to drag him along. "Mother, you'll make us more scones, later? Won't you?"
Pausing in the act of passing out goodies to the eager girls, Esther nodded. "Of course, my son." Her eyes twinkled as she spoke and Kol felt a wave of good will towards his mother.

Driving along the streets of Mystic Falls, Kol and Caroline sang along with the radio. Kol did not care for the singer's work, but he was in too good a mood to say so. He didn't even poke fun at Caroline for her incessant chatter to do with Klaus. On and on, she went while Kol took in the sights and sounds around them. He basked in the sunlight and took the time to brake for a lost puppy.
However, Kol's good mood found the pause button when a young man ran through the intersection. Brows rising, Kol titled his head to the side. His eyes followed the young man who kept going down the street without a moment's hesitation while Kol stayed a little longer than necessary beside the stop sign.
Without knowing why, Kol turned his car around the corner and followed the jogger. Now, Kol felt annoyed. He was on Elena Gilbert's street. Kol had never felt the same type of fondness his brothers felt for the doppelgangers-well, obsession in Klaus' case...
The jogger stopped outside of Elena's door. He pulled out a key and unlocked it. "Who is that?" Kol inquired, leaning closer to Caroline.
"Hmm?" Caroline glanced at the closing door. "Jeremy? Elena's younger brother." She shook her head. "He's supposed to be in Denver because-" Caroline caught herself and glanced at Kol with a guilty look.
"Why?" Kol stared at Caroline.
Caroline rolled her eyes. "Elena got worried that Klaus might come after Jer, too. He's her only family. Don't tell Klaus. Please?"
Not bothering to answer, Kol swung his door open and strode around the side of the car. "Kol!" The sound of the passenger door opening and closing was followed by the sound of Caroline's heels on the concrete sidewalk. Still, Kol beat her by ten feet. He punched the doorbell and waited. "Kol?" Caroline hissed from behind him, her footsteps moving more quickly as the door swung open.
Lips beginning to curl up and into a grin, his movements froze at the sight of a short brunette. "Kol? What are you doing here?" Elena folded her arms over her chest and narrowed her eyes.
"Elena-" Caroline began when Elena's nose began to twitch. Her eyes closed and she inhaled deeply.
A sigh was emitted from between Elena's lips and she leaned forward to sniff at Caroline. "What is that smell?"
Peering inside the house, Kol tried to catch a glimpse of Jeremy Gilbert. But he could find neither hide, nor hair of the boy. "Elena, can I go in?" he asked. Elena did not reply. She was still sniffing Caroline. "Caroline has a scone for you in her bag."
"Kol!" Caroline cried.
"Yes!" Elena moaned.
With a wide smile, Kol shot inside the door. He could hear Caroline's yelp of: "Elena, stop that! Fine! Here! Take it! Kol, I'm going to-" Her threat was cut off by Kol's speeding up the stairs of the Gilbert's house. He paused and listened before he moved down the hallway.
Inside one bedroom, Jeremy Gilbert stood in a pair of jeans. He was in the process of pulling on a T-shirt when Kol rapped his knuckles on the doorframe.
Jeremy turned to stare at Kol. The human did not seem scared for someone who knew about the supernatural and might be a little more worried about a stranger's appearing in their home. Pulling the shirt over his head; Jeremy ran a hand through his short brown locks. "Can I help you with something?"
"Yes. I'm Kol Mikaelson." Kol strode over. He held out a hand. "Caroline told me you're Jeremy, the doppelganger's brother."
"She goes by Elena." Jeremy stared at Kol's hand. "You're Klaus' brother?"
"Yes. Peace offering?" Kol dug the scone for Bonnie out of his pocket. He held it out to Jeremy. Again, Jeremy did not seem interested.
With a shake of his head, Jeremy said, "Thanks. But I already ate."
"Kol!" Caroline came speeding into the room. She moved to stand between Jeremy and Kol. "Are you okay?" she asked Jeremy.
"I'm fine. He offered me a scone. Unless it's poisoned, I don't think he's trying to do something evil to me."
"Did you say 'scone?'" Elena came into the room. She licked at her fingers. Sniffing the air, she came to stand behind Kol. Her hand went forward to grab at Kol's extra scone which he fisted. She made a disagreeable noise before moving to stand beside her brother. Her eyes bored into Kol's closed fist.
"What do you want?" Jeremy asked, staring at Kol.
"Oh, we're having a little get-together. Thought you might want to join?"
"Sorry. We've got school," Jeremy said.
Caroline looked at Elena. "I thought you were coming?"
Elena continued to stare at Kol's hand. "To what?"
"The get-together. It is school. Unfortunately. But it's much more entertaining when my family hosts," Kol said with a grin directed at Jeremy. "Trust me, you would not want to miss it."
"It's at your place?" Jeremy looked at Elena who narrowed her eyes at Kol's hand and licked her lips.
Caroline placed her hands on her hips. "You mean: Klaus."
"Yes." Kol waved a dismissive hand. "Don't worry, darling. Klaus is much less homicidal since he and Caroline began to see each other naked."
"What?" Jeremy looked at Caroline.
Caroline rolled her eyes. "It's true. Klaus is twenty percent less evil since we got together. We're working towards fifty, by New Year's."
Kol smirked at the Gilberts. "Come with us."
Elena looked Kol in the eye. "Will there be more scones?"
"Yes." Kol nodded. He found Elena taking Jeremy by the hand and dragging him out of the room.
And Kol's good mood returned as Jeremy cried, "Bag, Lena. I need my bag!" Kol looked around and grabbed the bag. He followed Caroline out the door. He could not think of anything else he wanted in that moment.

The drive to Bonnie's did not take long. When they arrived, Bonnie was already standing outside her house. Her bag was on her shoulder as Kol got out. He headed up the path. "Bonnie, darling. I brought you a treat from my mother's kitchen-" he began. But it was clear that Bonnie was not paying attention to him. She was focused on something behind him.
"Jeremy?" Bonnie moved around Kol. "What are you doing here?" she called, striding toward him.
Kol turned to find Jeremy standing at the end of the sidewalk. "Hey, Bon. I just got back." Bonnie dropped her bag and threw her arms around Jeremy.
Walking over to join them, Kol smiled, "Are we all looking forward to class today?"
"Sure." Jeremy said. He was staring at Bonnie and Bonnie was staring right back. Well, it was clear to Kol that these two shared a past. He just wondered what that meant for their future...

"Classes" hadn't started, yet, when Esther called for Kol to join her in the kitchen. She pulled out a fresh tray of scones and Kol's mouth began to water. He moved to grab a pipping, hot one off the tray, but Esther turned to stare at him. She held up a hand. "Kol, I have a present for you, in the dinning room. Why don't you go and check on it?"
"Really?" Kol grabbed two scones and sauntered off to the dining room. He could not think of a single thing his mother could give him, other than a room full of these treats...
The doors to the dining room stood open. No light came from within. Kol came to stand between them, his brows rose. His eyes moved along the darkened room, until he found a girl in the darkness. A sudden laugh bubbled up in his throat. Had their mother finally accepted their vampirism? Was this a snack?
"Hello, darling." Kol moved into the room.
"Hello, Kol." Every candle in the room lit up and the girl's hair fluttered behind her. A small smirk played on her lips. "I'm Davina Claire. Your witch." Her eyes held a fire that amused Kol.
Kol moved closer. "You're my gift? A witch?"
Davina nodded. She folded her hands over her middle. "Yes. I'm here to be-what is it your mom called it... Oh, right: conduit. Since you can't do magic, but I can, I can make any spell you would like to perform happen."
"Yes? A baby witch can do whatever I would, with my magic?" Kol's brows rose.
Still smirking, Davina lifted a finger. She drew it in a looping scrawl and Klaus' dining room table began to smoke as words appeared in flames across it. When the flames died out, Kol found his own name written on the wood. He grinned. "Try me," Davina said.
Nodding, Kol held out a hand. "Come. Let's introduce you to the group."
Leading his new witch into the Great Room, Kol found Caroline sitting in Klaus' lap. Elena had a scone in each hand and could not seem to decide which one she wanted to eat first. Rebekah flipped through a book while Stefan Salvatore and Marcel Gerard were trading stories about something Kol did not care about.
"Everyone, may I present my very own witch!" Kol called. He waved at Davina who stared at everyone in the room with that little smirk.
"I thought Bonnie was your witch!" Caroline blurted.
Bonnie and Jeremy turned to stare at Caroline who stared at her feet.
Kol smiled. "No, darling. Bonnie is my witch for social occasions. Davina is my work-witch."
"Huh?" Elena said around a mouthful of scones.
Leaning close to Davina, Kol whispered something, and Rebekah's book went flying to smack Stefan in the back of the head. "Ow!" Stefan groaned, rubbing his head.
"Daddy, play with me!" Monica came in with a baseball bat.
"Sorry, love. It looks like your daddy has a new toy." Klaus told Monica. Monica looked to Davina. Her mouth opened and flames began to shoot out.
Davina lifted a hand and said: "Human child!" Monica dropped over.
"Mon?" Bonnie got to her feet and ran over as Monica sat up and groaned.
Bonnie scooped Monica up. "Kol, she's warm."
"From the toasty pits of hell." Klaus rolled his eyes.
"Mama, I don't like this!" Monica grumbled, glaring at Davina.
"She's human!" Bonnie said.
"Ew!" Rebekah cried, wrinkling her nose.
Kol grinned. "I have a daughter."
A low growl came from Monica and she coughed out a cloud of smoke. Then her eyes turned red. "And she's still a demon!"
"Time to go!" Klaus cried as Bonnie set Monica down who looked angrier and angrier.
"Someone, give her a scone! Bloody hell!" Rebekah shouted. She took Elena's extra scone and tossed it at Monica before the group dived into the hallway.
"My scone!" Elena complained, trying to go back in, but Caroline and Klaus held her back.
Seconds later, fire shot out of the room. This was followed by a burp, and a giggle. "Good. More, Daddy!" Monica howled.
"How is she more evil as a human?" Rebekah demanded.
"She takes after her father!" Klaus said, giving Kol a look, who shrugged, feeling a prick of fatherly pride.
"I said: More!" Monica's demonic voice called. Kol got to his feet. He found he was holding hands with Bonnie, and Jeremy moved to follow them back to the kitchen. Yes, Kol was enjoying getting everything he wanted, and things he did not know he did.
