Shattering Ancient Tradition

"What the hell do I do?" Kai thought aloud with his crimson eyes narrowing with concern. He latched his hands onto the grass and he growled impatiently, "There's no way that Voltaire will cope with this."

"I think we should just go down there and take them all ourselves." Tyson arrogantly suggested and smirked. "Or we could try and talk to them and resolve everything to avoid a war."

It was obvious that Tyson wasn't thinking about the bigger picture here, but Kai wasn't prepared to listen to him either. "You're a moron. I don't even know how you've gotten this far in life without dying." He snarled at his rival and then crawled away from the edge.

"I put it down to luck. And hey! Don't speak to me like that." Snapped Tyson as he too backed away from the edge. "Why can't you be grateful about the fact that I am right here ready to fight with you?"

"Hungover? Go back to bed, Tyson. You're useless to anyone right now."

Without warning, Kai darted back to his horse and hoped onto the stallion like a fearless warrior who was ready to spread the word of his findings. He wasn't sure about how Boris and Voltaire would react, especially as Voltaire was a man who would panic and play the victim to give Kai all of the responsibility of resolving this scenario.

"Kai!" Tyson hoppled back after him whilst coughing, "Wait for me!"

But he didn't, Kai chose to ride on, leaving the Granger to rage outside his home like a stuck sitting duck.

"What a spoilt brat." Cussed Tyson under his breath, "I WANT TO HELP THE KINGDOM TOO Y'KNOW!"

Even though the soft breeze carried Tyson's words to Kai's ears, he was still ignored and this only riled the Granger even more. He spun around on his heel and looked back at the distance that he'd just ran from.

'Hiro, surely he'll talk to me if I approach him? Maybe I can end all of this? After all, he is my brother. He's had time to get over my confession, surely?'

There's only one way to find out~

The ride back to the castle didn't take long and Kai marched straight towards the office to see that Boris and Voltaire were in another one of their daily meetings. These types of meetings in Kai's view were nothing but a waste of time, especially as it was just Boris pitching his useless get 'rich quick schemes.'

"Why did you not knock?" Voltaire demanded in a cold tone. He was sat behind a desk with a pen in his hand. Boris was lurking over his shoulder with a filthy grin glued to his lips. "We were in the middle of something important."

Naturally, Kai paused for a moment to sustain his cool. "Voltaire, there is something urgent you need to know. There is a large army based on the boarders of our Kingdom. They look set to invade at any moment. They're the outcasts who were banished years ago." He continued to share with his heart pounding inside his chest.

Their reactions didn't at all seem confused or concerned, and this worried Kai a little. His muscles tensed when Boris stepped away from his grandfather to approach the Phoenix Prince. Boris bowed and placed a hand over his chest to swear his 'allegiance.'

"Oh my dear, Prince. It's very honourable of you to raise this to us. But I'm afraid that this is old news to us." He explained with his cheeks glowing with joy, "That army has came here on our request to form an alliance with us."

The venomous words sent a shiver down Kai's spine. "Why wasn't I informed about this?" He stepped aside to look at the true ruler of this kingdom, his grandfather.

"This outsider will be rejoining the lineage and his army will remain to protect our country." Voltaire huffed and picked up his freshly inked quill. "Kai, understand that I am doing this for the good of our Kingdom. With you refusing to marry and produce an heir, I have no choice but to replace you with someone who will."

It was as if Kai had just heard the worst of the worst. His knees trembled, yet his body went numb as it embraced the shock that had now invaded his nerves.

"I will be conducting a meeting with Vadim in his base and I expect you to come with me to pay your respects to your uncle, the new heir to the throne."

"But this is not how the linage works-"

"Kai!" Voltaire bellowed, shutting down his Grandson quickly. "I am the Emperor of these lands and what I say, is how it goes. You've had your chance and it's been wasted. Consider this a consequence of your own actions."

Boris was in his element here, he was resisting the urge not to squirm with excitement because he was finally fullfilling a little plan of his. "It is true, Kai. You were offered many brides, one of them was a daughter of my own." He concluded and gazed back at Voltaire.

"Once I have signed this, Vadim will become my heir. But Vadim is yet to accept the offer and sign this." Voltaire added and scribbled his signature on to the scroll. "I encourage you to urge Vadim to sign this document once you meet your uncle, Kai."

Thank you for the encouragement! So much has happened recently, but I am back on my feet now. Take care and stay safe guys - Granger~
