In the Mafia lifestyle, you never know when your last day alive will be. Walking down the street with your guard down can lead to you on the side of the road choking on your own blood. Usually over something your employer did, and your murderer will kill you just to send them a message. Betraying the wrong family can lead to one bullet to the head and two to the chest if you are lucky. If you're not lucky, well, you could spend the last few days of your life stuck in a basement being tortured just for your limbs to be sent to your family piece by piece, with your family hoping they have all the pieces of your body before the day of your funeral. Such are the risks you take in our business. While the men are praised for their heroics, the women are forced to shut up, look pretty, and shop like the airheads their husbands want them to be. Being trained to pull the trigger as a woman is relatively unheard of. This leads to Mafia wives and daughters — 'princesses' — being utterly defenseless. That's not the life I wanted to live, my destiny is bigger than this.
"I, Angelica Ferrari, was destined to be more. I won't let the barriers my father think I should abide by keep me down. I don't abide by the rules these old-timers set for me. Nor should I take the abuse my father is determined to dish out to have me stay compliant to him. I clutch my gun and sheath my blades every morning before leaving my loft. I may be a princess, but I'm not a Disney princess. As far as I'm concerned, a real princess gets off her ass and gets shit done. I've done tons of jobs with the benefit of my family in mind. I've never needed some man to swoop in and save me like a damsel in distress and I find no need to have one now.

You will love this book if you enjoy modern stories about the mafia, strong female protagonists, and narratives that reject traditional stereotypes. The Mafia Princess speaks to women and a young adult audience who value a strong female protagonist with agency, and want to see more stories that challenge the "damsel in distress" narrative you typically see in princess stories — they want to see a princess who rescues herself!
