The sound of the door opening and closing brought the attention to a blue haired women currently sitting on her sofa, cuddled up in thick blankets to shield her from the cold.
"I'm home" a familiar voice called and it was quickly followed by arms wrapping around her from behind.
Umi smiled "welcome back" she greeted, twisting around in her sitting position to look at the girl behind her. Leaning up and giving a gentle kiss on the cheek, Umi relaxed into her lovers embrace.
Maki smiled and let go to walk around and sit next to Umi. Smiling when the older woman wrapped the blanket around her own body, bringing a soothing warmth between the two females.
"When have you got work?" Maki asked her wife, her voice low and calm as she nuzzled into her lover.
To the question, Umi looked towards the clock at the other end of their living room "hmm in about ten minutes" she replies, looking down at the red head next to her.
Maki turned until her entire body was facing her lover, leaning up slowly, she gave a little grin to the older woman "better make the most of it then..." she whispered huskily. Giving Umi no time to answer as she claimed the others lips.
Umi, a little surprised at the sudden kiss, simply melted under the red heads touch. Reaching up to bury her fingers within red locks that now flowed past the girls shoulder blades.
Breaking apart, Maki began to place butterfly kisses on each and every part of Umi's skin. Marking her territory on the flawless beauty that was her lover but pulling away for good. Though her hand made its way onto the slightly red cheek and automatically began to caress it.
Umi smiled and placed her hand over Maki's, two sets of rings making a small noise upon contact. The blue haired girl smiled as the unforgettable day of their wedding came to her mind. It had been the first time she had ever seen Maki blush and cry at the same time. Not that she could say anything since she was probably blushing a darker shade and crying twice as much.
The sudden sound of her alarm snapped her out of her thoughts and Umi reached over to switch it off "well, I best be off" Umi sighed, not really wanting to go.
"You better be quick" Maki muttered, giving Umi one last kiss before getting up and making her way to the bathroom.
Umi smiled "I'll try"

Letting out a tired sigh, Umi stretched her arms above her head. It was finally the end of her shift and she could hurry back to Maki.
Saying goodbye to her fellow workers, Umi collected her stuff before making her leave. It had turned dark and was also slightly raining when she left the office. She was absolutely exhausted and struggling to keep her eyes open.
Not looking where she was going, Umi completely failed to notice the oncoming car...

It was around 11:00 when Maki got a call from the very hospital from which she works. At first she thought that she was just getting called in.
"Sorry to bother you Nishikino-san. But we have Sonoda-san her-"
That was all she needed before she took off, sprinting towards the hospital.

Barging her way into the hospital, Maki rushed over towards the receptionist.
"Ah, Nisikino-san sorry to call you here on such bad terms. She's in room 209"
Now she found herself racing down the corridors, weaving her way through people and storming up the stairs. Once she found the room she was looking for, Maki raced up to the nurse that must have been waiting for her.
Not even stopping to catch her breath, Maki bombarded the poor nurse with a series of questions. "Is she okay? what happened?!"
The nurse gave her a sympathetic smile. And placed a hand onto the shaking woman "firsts things first, I think you should calm down" she started.
Maki really, really wanted to protest but she knew from being a doctor that the nurse was only doing her job. And so she sat down on a chair that was behind her.
"Well, I'm afraid to tell you this..." she began "but Sonoda-san was in a car accident. She has suffered some serious injuries and..." the nurse looked down.
Maki gulped "a-and?"
The nurse took in a deep breath "she'll most likely not survive the night" she finished off.
Maki was blank, no expression, no thoughts going through her head and no heart beating in her chest. She was just...frozen.
"C-can I?"
The nurse nodded and stepped aside, allowing the red head to enter the room.
Opening the door, Maki's gaze quickly landed on the girl lying on the bed. Wires coming from what seemed like every part of her body. Bandages, some stained red were wrapped around every part of the girls skin.
The heart monitor next to the bed was going too slow for Maki's liking. She took in a deep breath and very slowly made her way over to her beloved. She sat down onto the chair and continued to stare at the woman.
"Umi..." that was it, she couldn't take it no more. Seeing the usually strong and noble girl so close to death was too much for her heart to take.
She leaned on the bed, grasping Umi's reached out hand. "Please...come back to me" tears now flowing freely down her cheeks and staining the white sheets of the hospital bed.
"Please..." she sobbed "you p-promised that you'd never leave me" she leaned in closer and placed her head on top of Umi's. Her tears falling onto the woman's peaceful face.
"Maki...?"
Purple eyes snapping open, only to see amber ones staring back at her. Maki gasped, her body flinching when realization struck her.
"Umi!" she yelled, wrapping her arms around the girl.
Umi smiled, a small, gentle smile. Her eyes had lost their usual bright color and her face was so pale.
Umi shakily reached out and cupped Maki's cheek, rubbing a thumb over the skin, still wet from the tears that were still falling. "You know, every love story is beautiful" she started, her heart monitor dropping "but ours is my favorite" she smiled, bringing Maki's head down and placing a tender kiss upon her lips "I love you...Maki" she breathed against the red heads lips. Her hand falling as the sound of the monitor drowned out every noise in the world.
"I love you too, Umi..."
