Chapter 15 Missing hearts
It's been about a month since the invasion of South Korea and since Will and Mitchell had cybernetics to replace their arms they lost. Since then everything was back to normal with North Korea under a microscope after that incident.
Right now Sean and Korra and some of the others were at the hospital for a checkup on her pregnancy.
"So what exactly is this?" Korra asked as a green light scanned her.
"Well just as water benders can sense the child growing inside. We use these machines to scan the body with more accuracy. It's called an ultrasound but more advanced." Sean said as he sat next to her before the light shut down.
"Ok image is coming in now." The doctor said showing an image of the baby growing inside Korra making her smile.
"Oh." Korra said as Sean held her close.
"You only got another 7 months." Sean said making her smile.
"So would you two like to know the Gender?" A nurse asked.
"Yes we..." Will tried to say.
"NO!" Korra and Sean said quickly.
"We both decided to let it be a surprise since it doesn't really matter to us." Korra said.
"What? Oh come on. Talk some sense into them." Will said to her parents.
"It's their choice. I don't see the issue." Tonraq said with his wife agreeing.
"Oh come on." Will said making Sean frown.
"Wait a second...Will? Is there a betting pool at work?" Sean asked making him widen his eyes before chucking nervously.
"No of course not." Will said.
"Will." Korra said annoyed.
"Pool's a million bucks to whoever guesses it right." Will said making Sean growl annoyed.
"I fucking knew it." Sean said as Korra glared at him.
"I'm about to crush that new hand of your's." Korra said. "I do not like the fact you guys are betting on the gender of my baby." Korra said.
"Oh come on. The army had a bet on him before he was born. About more than half betted he was gonna be a girl." Will said making Sean's eyes shot up in shock.
"SAY WHAT!" Sean yelled making him snicker.
"Whoops." Will said while Korra giggled.
"You are such an asshole." Sean said.
Later
Back at the hospital a nurse walked past a little girl's room who had a large stuffed Teddy bear next to her while drawing in a little book. The Nurse had Red hair white skin and emerald eyes.
Thats when a hand was placed on her making her gasp before turning around seeing Sean without his hood and mask on but had black shades.
"Christ. It's just you. Don't scare me like that."
"Will called me and said you called him about something strange. So he sent me." Sean said. This was Janet Will's girlfriend of two years and the Fifth one.
"Well, something strange is going on. This little girl underwent heart transplant surgery last month. Her parents were overjoyed that she was lucky enough to find a compatible heart. And they asked who the donor was in order to offer their personal thanks to them." Janet said.
"Sounds like a happy ending if you ask me." Sean said leaning on the wall.
"Thats the thing though. The organ was donated by a boy who was also in my care just like her. A decision was made to replace portions of his body that were failing with cybernetics as part of his treatment. It would have left a huge strain on his heart. So it was replaced with an artificial one. But both parents claim they don't recall offering his organs." Janet said.
"It could have just been an accident. It has happened in the past or maybe they just forgot. Postoperative delirium confuses many." Sean said looking in the room where the little girl played with her toy.
"True but from what I heard the boy's mother went to the police about this. But the detective assigned to the case met some kind of accident and now the investigation is on hold. I don't know if this falls under Atlas jurisdiction but It's got me worried. You see, she needed a transplant after a sudden accident. So her folks were ready for Cybernetics but given her age would have been a huge strain. They were lucky to find a compatible organ" Janet said before seeing the look on Sean's face.
"How old...Is she?" Sean asked.
"She just turned three." Janet said as Sean looked at the little girl.
Korra waited patiently in Sean's truck while watching a holographic screen before seeing him walking to the truck with a screen in his face before it vanished and got in before Sean pulled up a screen and Hudson appeared.
"All right, Hudson. That's the whole story. So what do you think? Worth Investigating or should we go home?" Sean asked.
"No...Head over to Global Medical. It's the place that handled the transplant organs for the girl. I'll have Taylor's team meet you there." Hudson said.
"Something on your mind?" Sean asked.
"You remember those mass kidnappings 4 years back? Where Mobs would kidnap people at random and take their organs and cyber implants?" Hudson asked.
"Yeah we shut those down though. Whats does that have to do with this?" Sean asked.
"This may be them coming back again and if thats the case we need to stop it before it goes any further." Hudson said.
"I got it." Sean said ending his feed before pressing a button on the wheel before driving off.
"I thought you said you couldn't drive." Korra teased.
"I said I don't know how to drive the car Asami had. Everything is digital here where her car required everything manually." Sean said.
"Oh I get it." Korra said as they drove to Global Medical. "So what exactly is going on?" Korra asked.
"Will's girlfriend called about something odd. A girl who just got a heart transplant the donor was from a boy in her care but the parents claim they never offered to donate their son's organs. So naturally the boy's mother went to the police about this and now said detective is in the hospital. Something is going on." Sean said.
"It'll be nice to be in the field for a little while. And Yes I promise to stay out of any fighting." Korra said making him smile before they came to a large building. "Wow." Korra said impressed.
"It's a secondary company of Atlas that handles organic and genetics." Sean said before they parked and got out.
Korra however was surprised when she saw pigs inside with some kind of tattoo on all of them that looked the same.
"What the hell are those Tattoos?" Korra asked.
"Their not Tattoos. Those are bar codes designed to show which pig is which. Let me tell you something interesting that happened in the mid 50's." Sean said as they entered an elevator. "During the mid 50's a group of young doctors came up with the idea of growing human organs using livestock by genetically splicing human DNA inside them." Sean said.
"That sounds disgusting." Korra said.
"Thats what the medical community said as well. They disapproved of their theory and shut them down. But they did it anyway and harvested a human heart from a pig and donated it to dying woman. When they were caught however the medical community wanted them publicly executed." Sean said.
"Why? The plan worked." Korra said.
"It did. But the reason they wanted it really shut down was to make profit from treating failing organs rather than replacing them which would be cheeper. When my father found out he killed the Medical community and put these people in charge. Using their research they made Global Medical into the worldwide enterprise it is now. Of course in order to get one of these pigs you have to offer your DNA in order to splice it into said pig and can use the organs inside incase of an emergency." Sean said.
"Wow. Talk about being prepared." Korra said as they arrived in a computer room.
"Ok lets see here." Sean said accessing the records. "Odd. Theres not much info on the transfer here." Sean said looking through. "Come to think of it I don't think they coordinate shipping and handling. Something is up." Sean said.
"No kidding." Sarah said as she, Diaz and Hendricks walked in.
"Find anything with the money trail?" Sean asked.
"Yeah we found something strange. The Organ fees from the Crime Victim's relief fund were paid out here." Sarah said showing the file. "Theres the amount shown in the records right here. But in other areas theres nothing. Data communication feeds and business files aren't showing up." Sarah said.
"Tampering from an outside source, you think?" Sean asked.
"Something along those lines. This part of the company is run by AI's of low but efficient standards. It wouldn't take much to hack into them. No one has ever actually hacked into the place before so there was never real need to upgrade the place in that area." Sarah said.
"Until now." Korra said.
"Yup. Ok...Let's go over what we know. Clearly the girl and the boy's who's heart was taken wasn't the first time this probably happened. And this doesn't fit the MO of the Mobs we took down. What if this is isn't them and just some punks trying to make spending money?" Sean asked.
"I honestly wouldn't be surprised. But it can't be just anyone. It would have to be someone with a medical degree or in the progress of earning one." Sarah said.
"Medical students?" Diaz asked.
"Can they even do that? Shouldn't the organs be monitored?" Korra asked.
"Only if the patient or deceased is labeled as an Organ donor. Everyone has the choice to be an organ donor but back then they were highly encouraged to do so. Since Cybernetics have come so far however though and add to the fact these facilities exist that number has declined." Sean said.
"But if a Medical student has been doing this we need conformation." Sarah said.
"Ok...Hendricks we're gonna drop you off at the hospital where the detective is and see if you can get anything from him." Sean said as they left.
"This should be fun." Korra said.
Later
Hendricks was talking with the doctor who was treating the Detective.
"I believe it was last weekend. He was rushed here after collapsing while working on an investigation."
"Yeah we know that part. Did he say anything about the case?" Hendricks asked.
"No he has temporary memory loss. Our examination showed evidence of a drug of some type." The doctor said as they walked to the detective's room only to see two young men coming out with some machine before they spotted them and bolted.
"HEY!" Hendricks yelled running to them before checking the room seeing the Detective was drooling due something they used. "Sons of bitches!" Hendricks yelled running after them.
Rushing outside the two men got into a car just as Hendricks came out before taking out a pistol and put a tracking bullet into it before firing at the back of the car just as Sean drove up to them.
"Get in!" Sean yelled getting him to do that before Sean sped up.
"What happened?" Korra asked.
"Little bastards messed up his brain." Hendricks said.
"Anything else?" Sean asked.
"Definitely fits the description of medical students but I didn't get a good enough look." Hendricks said as a screen lit up as Hudson was seen.
"Was it the Mob?" Hudson asked.
"Nah. It wasn't them. Just some punks looking to make some spending money. We'll contact you when we have them." Sean said ending transmission. "Diaz, Sarah follow them." Sean said on comms.
"Roger that." Diaz said as they were on the buildings jumping from one to the other following them.
"Kinda extreme to use this much skill on some low lives." Korra said.
"Maybe but these punks pissed me off." Sean said.
Inside the Perp car was three men of young age.
"I was sweating bullets what took so long?"
"Excuse me? If you hadn't been a greedy bastard, you wouldn't have forgotten to switch the fucking labels you sap!"
"Relax, we wiped the Detective's memory. We should be okay, then, right?"
"But the point right now is who was that?"
Sean continued to drive through the highway following the tracer.
"Hmm. Now where are they headed?" Sean asked.
"I think those kids are headed to the old abandoned docks where those warehouses are at." Hendricks said.
"Makes sense. If they have other organs it would be the best place to hide them till the heat cools down." Sean said.
"What'r you gonna do when you catch them?" Korra asked.
"I honestly have no idea." Sean said.
Meanwhile
The perps were clearly concerned about what had happened as they drove to the docks.
"We're in over our heads, guys. We oughta get out while we can. Let's dump it all."
"The only crime we're guilty of is selling some left over organs cheaply to average folk who can't afford high end cybernetics at a high price. Besides, even if we were arrested, I'll just call my dad, and he'll fix it." (I honestly hate these kind of people)
"Yeah? For now, though where do you suggest putting these spare organs?"
"We'll just leave the car at the docks. No one will look there."
"That man just opened fired at us. What if he's part of those mobs that were behind those abductions years ago and have come back?"
"Oh relax."
"Oh, my god, he's gotta be. It's because we're butting in our their old turf. Shit the Mob we're fucked."
"Will you shut up? I gotta make a call." The Leader said trying to use his phone but wasn't getting a signal when he should which made him nervous.
"It's them! It's them!"
"I think...We might really be in trouble." The Driver said.
Sean continued to drive till he stopped.
"Hey whats up?" Korra asked as Sean got out.
"Take the truck and get to the docks. I'm gonna head out on foot." Sean said.
"Yeah sure." Hendricks said getting behind the wheel.
"Be careful." Korra said making him smirk.
"Against some low level punks? Come on." Sean said making her grin before they drove off.
Sarah and Diaz were at the docks before they saw the car.
"We see them." Sarah said.
"Ok shoot out the fucking tires. I wanna scare these fuckers." Sean said.
"Now your speaking my language." Diaz said pulling out his assault riffle before firing on the tires blowing them out before the car turned and the right side crashed into the wall.
"Not scary enough." Sarah said handing him a low level Rocket Launcher.
"Oh now this is my kind of fun." Diaz said seeing them get out before firing at the ground blowing it up and barley damaged the car while the perps flew a little.
"Hey? Think this is scary enough?" Sarah asked as Sean dropped down next to them.
"Perfect." Sean said as Hendricks parked under them.
"I knew this was gonna happen." Korra said grinning.
"How'd you figure that?" Hendricks asked.
"I know you people now." Korra said making him chuckle.
Sarah grabbed one of them and pulled out his wallet.
"Bingo. Med Students." Sarah said.
"Knowing that a bunch of punks like you could be operating on civilians pisses me off." Hendricks said.
"Oh guys." Korra said pulling out a liquid container showing a heart.
"By the looks of things, they've been switching labels of organs left over from cyborg operations and sell them without consent." Sarah said.
"I thought there was one more." Sean said seeing only two
"Oh don't tell me that punk ran off. I'll get him." Diaz said.
"No. Let me handle this. If we just turn them in now they'll get a slap on the wrest. I'm gonna teach that punk a lesson he'll never forget." Sean said rushing after him.
"Oh boy that kid is toast." Hendricks said.
"Doesn't he seem to be acting a little strange?" Korra asked.
"Maybe." Sarah said as one of them tried to crawl away.
Only for Diaz to aim a gun at his head.
"Hold it right there punk. You're gonna answer to me." Diaz said making him yell in fear.
"Spare me please. Just don't take my organs!"
"Huh?" Diaz asked confused making the others chuckle.
"That mug of yours has Mafia written all over it." Hendricks said before the Drive who was behind him tried to crawl away. "You think I'm one?" Hendricks asked making them chuckle.
The last of the punks was in one of the buildings hiding from them before he sighed in relief thinking he was safe.
Only for Sean's metal claws to come through the wall cutting it slowly as Sean walked to the door making him gasp before running to a window.
When he opened it he widened his eyes seeing there were bars blocking his escape.
Thats when he felt someone behind him making him look seeing Sean with one of the organs and his metal claws in his free hand out.
"From the looks of things your body of purely natural. No Cybernetics. I could make a lot of money selling you piecemeal on the black market." Sean said darkly to scare him.
"Hey, wait a minute. I've got distribution routes. It's real easy money! You want a partner? My father can set you up with cars and storage. You don't have to worry about funding. Come on, thats not a bad deal, is it?"
"Do I look like someone who can bought off so easily? I don't need anything from the likes of a little punk who calls daddy to get him out of every problem he's gotten himself into." Sean said showing sharp teeth making him whimper as he backed into a corner. "I'll sell you off piece by piece which also not only adds profit but eliminates evidence. Two birds on stone." Sean said as he held his claws up.
"No! NO! Wait, I know. Want money? My father can pay you whatever you want!"
"I don't accept bribes from people like you. Your little game has gone too far. It's the end of the line." Sean said with his clawed hand up.
"I'm sorry! Please! Let me go! I'll never do it again!"
"Oh...I KNOW!" Sean roared moving to stab.
"AHHHHH!"
Blood splattered all over the place.
Actually it wasn't blood at all. It was just red liquid from a pipe above his head Sean cut. The little punk was scared beyond words and pissed himself before fainting.
"HAHAHAHA! Oh Woods would be real proud of this one." Sean laughed.
"What the hell did you do?" Korra asked walking in.
"Oh just scared him real good. It was fun playing the bad guy." Sean said chuckling making her smile shaking her head in amusement.
Later
After that whole event was over the Med students were arrested.
So right now Sean was in his lab back home working on something on his computer.
"Sean?" Korra said walking in the lab with only a robe on.
"I'll be right up. Just working on this last adjustment." Sean said.
"I actually wanted to ask why you took this so personal." Korra said sitting next to him.
"Isn't it obvious? I lost everything when I was 3 years old and that little girl almost lost the chance to enjoy a normal childhood at that age. Add to the fact these punks could have sold some faulty organs and killed her and others pissed me off." Sean said.
"Oh I see. I guess I would take it personal too." Korra said before kissing him. "That only proves your gonna be a good father when the baby is born because you care so much." Korra said making him smile and kissed her back.
"Ok I'm finished." Sean said as they walked out.
Soon the two were in bed with Korra laying her head on his chest watching another movie.
"Can I ask you something. I know we said we wanted it to be a surprise...But what are you hoping the Gender of the Baby is?" Korra asked making him smile.
"I honestly don't care since I'm perfectly fine with either a boy or girl. What about you?" Sean asked making her grin.
"Well, I know we'll have a few in the coming years so I don't care either." Korra said making him nod before kissing her. "I love you." Korra said.
"I love you too." Sean said before sleep claimed them both.
Authors Note: And with that the actions of three selfish idiots comes to an end and will never get their medical degree. I figured this would be a good chapter since Sean would take it personal since he loves kids and making them enjoy life. Now Next Chapter is gonna be a surprise. Read, Review, Fav and Follow.
