Jaypaw sat waiting, alone near the apprentice's den. As he looked over towards the rogue's side, the sleeping forms were difficult to look over. He could only see Shade draped across the stone, the tom had climbed atop not too long before Ebonypaw and Raggedpaw set off. Jaypaw narrowed his gaze; Shimmerpaw shouldn't be too far off. He liked to keep the she-cat close when she worked; maybe she had to wait a little longer; right?
The other apprentices were in a nice and quiet concealed corner of the camp, well protected from prying eyes as Jaypaw had noted when they first showed it to him. The quiet camp however proved difficult to go unnoticed by the evening guards positioned at the entrance protecting the clans.
Jaypaw lay down on the spot, resting his chin on his paws. Moonpaw approached his side and the two silvery gray toms sat down, his gaze following Jaypaw's to the rogues as they were sleeping.
"Can you see her yet?
"No, too many rogues are hiding her small form."
They both sat there in silence for just a little longer.
"I don't think she'll be able to make it tonight." Moonpaw commented, as his eyes looked down at his paws.
"She has to, we need all four cats; MoorClan, MountainClan, ValleyClan, and HillClan!" Jaypaw urged as he dug his claws in, "there cannot only be three cats there."
"Four."
Jaypaw whipped his head around. "What?"
"Four, I want to help… but we need the one sent to us by StarClan; that I get."
Jaypaw nodded as he looked back at the cats, his fur bushing as he noticed the moon beginning to set. It will soon be dawn, and the clan will wake. 'Come on Shimmerpaw, where are you?'
Minutes seemed to drag on, and soon the sun was starting to flood the clearing. Jaypaw sighed as Ebonypaw and Raggedpaw rushed to him. "I thought we were going to talk tonight, we lost our nighttime cover!"
"Shimmerpaw…"
"Oh yes, why hasn't that she-cat gotten here; did she remember?"
Raggedpaw placed a paw on Ebonypaw's side, licking her fur to settle her down. "We can try again tomorrow, we should hopefully be departing these rogues today… seeing as we don't have too far to go before we arrive at our new home." He assured her.
Ebonypaw slumped her shoulders before she scurried back to her nest, to pretend to be sleeping. The other three do the same just as the warriors started to stir.
"Everyone up, we should almost be home now."
Jaypaw raised himself up and looked over his shoulder as the other apprentices were as well, all of them shared wary glances before they headed off, Ebonypaw arrived at Jaypaw's side before her eyes widened. "We're about to leave behind some cats."
"What… how…"
Ebonypaw glared at the tom, before Jaypaw noticed the elders struggling up to their paws. Lionbite still dragging his hind legs along behind him, Jaypaw rushed down to the tom's side as he supported the limp hindquarters with his own weight. Lionbite glared at the tom but didn't say anything; the other elders were still tired and weak ahead.
"Berryleaf, come quick; bring what you can!"
Jaypaw watched as the tom pushed past Jaypaw, and into the elder's corner. As Jaypaw was finished settling Lionbite down, the tom reemerged a second later. Approaching Maplestar's side, and dipping his head. "Shortsight is dead."
Maplestar hung her head and a hushed silence washed over, "How did this happen?"
"We elders have been noticing this, the tom has been falling ill but we never could break through… perhaps the sick and the weak should stay behind!" argued Lionbite, turning to his fellow elders. "We all don't want to split, but we need to be able to be looked after."
Swiftstar took a step forward. "You will be safe and secure when we arrived at our new home, I promise that we will watch over you as we move towards our home."
"But how long will we be wandering, the path to StarClan can never be so direct!" argued Lionbite, "I will lead what remains of us to our own safety; you may wish for us to stay we wish only for you to not be weighed down by us."
Swiftstar sighed as he looked on, his gaze flickering over the other elders. The queen Eaglecatcher stepped forward, her mouth opened before closing… and then opened again. "Everyone knows that StarClan sees our fate, we cannot deny this… but perhaps this is what StarClan wants best."
Swiftstar took a deep breath and looked at his paws, before speaking. "If you so wish to leave, I will not stop you… anyone who wants to go with them may."
Jaypaw looked at Lionbite, his mouth opening to speak. But he shut it, and he looked at the four clan leaders. Lionbite dragged himself off of Jaypaw's shoulders, the golden tabby tom held his head so high. The other elders gathered around the tom, along with Eaglecatcher herself with her belly still round. "There will be no safety for me, my mate was killed and there will only be worse." She answered.
Swiftstar looked at all the cats, who remained silent as he took a deep breath. "Then go you may, and will we ever see again will be left to StarClan and fate."
Lionbite dipped his head, Jaypaw stepped up to the side of the clan. The rogues were not paying much attention, but Jaypaw could see Shimmerpaw staring at them.
Swiftstar looked over as the leader of the rogues met his gaze.
"Let's move out!"
