AN: this is more of a short chapter.
"Done," Rhea smiled maliciously as she erased another memo sent her way by Fury. It had been a month since they found Steve. Rhea could say much to everyone's annoyance that she made it her life's mission to make Steve feel at home. The poor man still got confused with a lot of the terms people threw around. The worst was how much the woman of the current generation changed. They were bold enough to express themselves. He was amazed but at the same time, he was finding it difficult to understand. She snorted as she remembered Steve's mortified face as a girl literally climbed on him at a club.
"Stop laughing!" He muttered under his breath.
"You looked so cute," She snorted. "Yeah, I don't even know why I am doing this," He said, handing her a small shot. "You aren't supposed to drink,"
"I am, on the other side of the pond, in a few months." She said, downing her shot. She giggled as Steve shook his head. "Come on Steve," She dragged him to the dance floor.
"I have two left feet and this isn't dancing."
"Then what is dancing?" Rhea shouted over the music.
"Not here, let's get out,"
Steve took her to an Italian Deli run by an old war veteran. "Captain," the man greeted him. "Good evening, Anthony," Steve hugged the man.
"Who are you beautiful?" The man curtsied and took her hand in his, landing a small kiss on the back of her hand. Rhea giggled. "I am Rhea,"
"So what brings you here?" He asked Steve.
"Well, I wanted to show this lady here what a real dance means." Anthony chuckled.
Rhea smiled softly as she remembered the two of them dancing that night, she chuckled, Steve was trying to look at his feet for the first five minutes before she told him not to and to just flow with the music.
"So who is he?" She jumped at the voice of Sharon Carter, Peggy's niece, her surrogate cousin.
"Who?" She asked her confused.
"Whoever that's the reason for your smile?"
"It's nothing." Rhea shrugged as she pretended to look at the screen before her. "You know that I won't leave till I get an answer."
"And you know even if you threatened me or pestered me I wouldn't budge," Sharon sighed. "Cafeteria?" She asked.
"Yes I am starving," Rhea exclaimed as she got up from her seat.
The two women sat down at their table with their lunches. Rhea bit into her Cheeseburger.
"Largest spy agency in the world and food is still crap." She muttered. Sharon chuckled.
"So how did she take it?" Rhea asked after a long shit talk about the food at the cafeteria.
"She cried a bit and started to talk to his picture, in the room. She is a tough nut. Did you tell him?"
"He is still processing. I don't know if he is yet ready for it. There is a file about all of them. I don't think he has opened it yet."
"Heard that Fury was pissed at you."
"Well yeah, I got a memo saying I had to stay away from my previous mission. Don't worry he won't find it anywhere now." She grinned. Sharon snorted.
Her phone buzzed, she saw it was Steve. Rhea blushed as she remembered their dance. Sharon's eyebrows shot up. "It's nothing," Rhea sputtered.
"Yeah I can see that little cousin," Sharon said as she went to dump her food. "I am not little."
"You are…" Sharon walked away smirking as Rhea took the call. "hey," She greeted him.
"Hey,"
"You free?"
"Not till five," She sighed. "Want to come over?" She asked him.
"Where to? At work? Fury would pack me back to the arctic." Rhea chuckled.
"To my place. We could watch some movies. I got the wizard of Oz." She said excitedly.
Steve chuckled, "I will get pizza and coke for you,"
Both of them were lounging on her couch. "So what happens next?" She asked Steve as the story progressed. "Rhea, shut up and watch the movie. I didn't direct it." Rhea huffed and stuffed her face with popcorn. Steve chuckled and pulled her close to him. She smiled as she snuggled up close to him.
"Thank you," Steve whispered as the credits rolled up.
"For what?"
"For making me feel at home,"
"I just did what I felt right." After a long silence, she spoke.
"I had a huge cultural shock when I moved into the country. My first friend was a computer, artificial intelligence. J had a lot of physical limitations. I still wish I had a friend. I was scared of elevators and escalators. I was fascinated by a lot of things in the country. I had to catch up with a lot of pop culture. I felt like a freaking outsider. A part of me still feels like an outsider. I know if I go back I won't fit in because things are changing so fast there. I feel like an outsider there too. I didn't want you to feel the same."
Steve hugged her. She sighed before she hugged him back. "You Miss Stark are an amazing human being," He said, she giggled.
"So what are you going to do tomorrow." She asked him. "I finally decided to look into the files, but…"
"You are scared of what it holds,"
Steve nodded, "You know something don't you," He asked her. "I do,"
"Who?"
"Gabe and Peggy,"
Steve just got up from his seat and ran out of the apartment. "Steve!" Rhea ran behind him. By the time she reached the ground floor, Steve was gone. She realized she looked ridiculous in her shorts and tank top. That was the last thing she needed to give to the paparazzi.
She went back inside and changed before leaving for Steve's apartment.
"Steve open up!" She knocked on his door. She continued banging on his door till the old lady next door opened hers. "That kid hasn't come home," She heard her.
"What?"
"He left early in the evening." Rhea sighed he didn't come here. "You guys fought?"
"I dropped a huge bomb on him with no preparation, he bolted," Rhea admitted.
"You are pregnant?"
"NO, I mean no, he was deployed and I told him about someone he left behind. I shouldn't have dropped it on him like that,"
"Find him, maybe talk to him, there is nothing a little talk can't fix."
"Thank you,"
"Rebecca,"
"Thank you, Rebecca, I am Rhea," Rhea shook her hand with the lady before she left the building. She was trying to reach Steve as she waited for her cab. "Pick up, pick up," She muttered under her breath.
"Jarvis" She exclaimed. She called home. "Hey J,"
"Yes, Miss Stark,"
"I want you to find out where someone is."
"May I know why Miss?"
"It's just a friend J" She chuckled, "Don't tell dad though,"
Jarvis had sent her Steve's location in no time. As the cab reached the location she realized it was an old apartment complex. She saw his bike parked outside the apartment. He stood next to it. He turned as he heard the cab pull in. Rhea paid the guy and came to stand next to Steve.
"This was where my apartment used to be, looks like they have rebuilt it from scratch." He said, "I am sorry I shouldn't have bolted off like that."
"I should be the one apologizing I dumped a whole lot on you, just like SHIELD."
Steve nodded. "I am sorry, I didn't know how to tell you and then I messed it up by dumping it on you,"
Steve took her hand in his, giving it a light squeeze. "Your neighbor thinks we are together, I told her I dumped something big and she assumed I was pregnant and you bolted." Steve looked at her horrified. "Don't worry all sorted,"
"Rebecca would at least be off my back and try to set me up with other women in the apartment."
"Awww, you never told me of this matchmaker." She teased him.
"How is she?" He asked her. She realized he was speaking of Peggy.
"She can't remember everything, mostly living in the past." Her voice cracked. Steve sighed loudly, Rhea wrapped her hand around his waist hugging him. She stifled a yawn. Steve chuckled. "Let's get you home," Rhea smiled before they both climbed onto his bike.
