It took a few days for Andy's anger to finally dwell down, until she could properly look everyone in the eye again without feeling a rise of anger for what they had kept from her - but the anger had to leave her sooner rather than later because of Andy and Robert's rehearsal dinner, which the entire team was attending.
"Andy let's go we're going to be late" Robert shouted from the front door.
"Robert have you seen my other shoe? I can't find it". She shouted back at him.
"It's right here by the door". He said laughing
Andy got her shoes on and grabbed Robert's hand. "I"m so glad we're doing this. I couldn't imagine my life without you in it Robert. I love you".
"Me too". He said kissing her.
The drive was short but felt like forever. Andy was getting more and more nervous and Robert could see it. He reached over and put his hand on her leg.
"Andy what's wrong? Why are you so nervous? Do you not want to do this"?
"Robert. I want nothing more than to marry you. But"... She trailed off. A tear sliding down her face.
"But what"? He asked, wiping the tear from her face.
"Robert i'm... please don't be mad".
Robert cut her off before she could continue. "Andy please tell me, do you want to go through with this wedding or not? All of our friends are inside that building waiting for us to rehearse this wedding that is supposed to happen in two days".
Andy started crying more. "Robert of course I want to marry you, this has nothing to do with our wedding. God I'm pregnant ok that's it and I was scared to tell you". She said getting out of the car and slamming the door.
Robert tried to call after her but she ignored him and kept walking inside. When Andy got inside Maya could tell she was crying. She pulled Andy into a room away from everyone else.
"Andy What is it? What's wrong"? She asked while putting her arms around Andy to comfort her.
Andy didn't usually like hugs and Maya wasn't the person to give out hugs but at this moment it was the only thing keeping her from breaking down again. She wrapped her arms around Maya and started crying again. Before Maya could ask again, Robert walked in.
"Andy I".. He started but before he could finish everyone's phones started going off.
"Five alarm. We got to go now". Andy started saying running past Robert to round up the rest of the crew who were already starting to head towards their cars.
The drive to the station was short but quiet. The team geared up and sped off to the fire. Everyone could tell there was tension between Robert and Andy but no one said anything.
Andy started to run to the building when she heard two people calling her name and running towards her. She couldn't make out the faces or the voices with them being so far away. She decided to walk towards them and Robert followed behind her. He knew Andy would get more annoyed with him for him following her but he didn't care. He wasn't about to let anything happen to her and with neither of them knowing who was calling her name he didn't feel comfortable letting her walk towards two strangers alone especially since she was pregnant. As she got closer she could finally see who it was and was stopped in her tracks.
"Oh my god. Tía Sandra. Michelle" she yelled.
At that moment she didn't care that Robert was following her. She hadn't seen her Tía or sister- cousin since she was little. All she could think was getting to them and finding out why they were at that motel in the first place. As she reached where they were trying to catch her breath Michelle hugged her.
"Andy, i missed you so much".
"Tía.. what- what are you guys doing here"?
"Andy.. It's too much to explain and right now there isn't time for that. It's your mom Andy". Sandra said, taking a hold of Andy's hand.
Andy looked at her confused "My mom? She's dead. What about her"?
"No, Andy, she's still inside that building. Like I said there isn't enough time to explain it all right now. We came here to explain it to you but right now she's inside there. Please Andrea help her".
Andy was shocked and so was Robert. But she snapped out of it and ran towards the building. Robert ran in front of her to stop her.
"You can't go in there Andy. Let someone else go in after her". He said.
Andy ignored him and ran in to find her mother.
"Mami? Mami? Are you in here"? Andy kept yelling.
She didn't hear anything. She was getting worried. What if her mom really was in here? What if she dies? She didn't even know her mom was alive until tonight. But now, what if she had the chance to know her mom and she doesn't find her in time. Andy kept yelling. She couldn't really see in front of her and she knew she'd run out of air at this rate. But she was determined to stay until she found her.
"Mami, If you're in here call out please. It's me Andrea. Please call out so I can find you".
She continued to sweep the room. Still no sound. She was walking and then suddenly she was on the ground. She couldn't get back up because her ankle hurt too much. She knew it wasn't broken. Maybe just sprained but she knew she'd need help. She reached out her hand to feel what she fell over and could tell it was a person. She wanted to be the one to take this person out to the aid car, she hoped it was her mom and that she was still alive if it was. She knew she couldn't take her out. She knew she had to call for help before they both didn't make it out alive.
"Captain? Bishop. Maya! I-I can't get up. I'm injured and I'm almost out of air. I have one civilian with me. Send help".
Robert didn't even wait for maya to send anyone in he ran in after his wife. He didn't care about anyone but her and the baby.
"Dean, go in with Robert and get the civilian". Maya yelled.
"Andy? Andy? Where are you"? Robert yelled running into the motel.
She could hear Robert yelling for her and she was still mad at him. She didn't want him to touch her but she knew he wouldn't leave without her. She loved that about him. Loved that he was always there to protect her, always there to take care of her. But she also found it annoying especially when she was mad at him. When she wanted him to leave her alone it's like it caused him to just move closer to her. Which again she found annoying but she secretly loved it because it made her feel safe. She knew as long as she had him she'd never have to go through anything alone. He wouldn't let her.
"I'm-I'm over here". She yelled out in pain.
He walked faster. "Keep talking Andy".
"Robert, be careful please".
He could tell he was getting closer. Her voice getting louder. It was soft even though he knew she was angry at him. Her voice was as soft as it was the first time he asked her out. She tried to turn him down that day. Tried to tell him it was against the rules. She couldn't go out with the captain. It went against everything she believed in. But he kissed her to shut her up. He went to apologize for kissing her but she didn't even let him finish before she kissed him back with more passion than he kissed her.
He stopped in his tracks when his foot kicked something. He put out his hand. "Andy if you can see my hand grabb it so i know where you are".
Andy grabbed his hand. "Robert, you have to step over the person to get to me. I can't get up by myself".
Robert stepped over what he assumed was Andy's mom and scooped Andy up in his arms. He could hear Dean finally catching up to them.
"Sullivan? Herrera"? Dean yelled
"We're over here Dean". Andy yelled,
Dean reached them and Andy told him to grab the civilian. She told him how it could be her mom and he needed to get her to the aid car immediately. Dean did as Andy told him.
When they finally got outside Tía Sandra and Michelle were waiting by the aid car.
"That's her. That's Tía Elena" Michelle shouted.
"Robert, take me over there please"? Andy asked.
He wanted to object, wanted to tell her to get checked out first. But he knew that would just get her more mad at him, so he did what she asked and carried her over to the aid car that her mom was being put into.
Andy looked at the paramedic. "Will she be okay"? She asked.
"She just needs some oxygen and rest but she'll be fine". He said before closing the doors and telling the driver to go.
Sandra went to say something but Andy was too furious to talk about anything right now.
"Robert let's go. I really need to get this checked out". She said.
Robert started walking away. Andy kept looking back at them. Seeing the sadness on their faces. It wasn't their fault she knew that but they kept such a huge thing from her for so long. They left her. She went through her childhood alone. She had Ryan, but it wasn't the same as it was when they would come around.
Andy got to the hospital. They told her, her ankle was sprained. Shocker, she already knew that. They bandaged her up and sent her away with some crutches. She was walking out of the ER when she saw Tía and Michelle sitting in the waiting room.
"Hold up Robert, give me a few minutes. She said making her way over to them.
She sat down across from them. They looked at her and they could tell how angry and upset she was with all of them.
"Andrea, my sweet girl. I'm so sorry" Sandra started saying.
"Why didn't you tell me before? Why did you wait all this time? Why did you just decide to show up here? Why didn't you answer any of my calls"? There was so many more questions she had for her but she didn't care enough to ask them all right now.
"Andy, you kept calling. We came here to tell you the truth. I know it's hard to wrap your mind around your mom still being alive. But she came a long way to tell you the truth".
"She came a long way? You want me to give her credit? After twenty years? After twenty years, she came".
"Andy you deserve to know the whole story even if she doesn't deserve to tell it. Please just wait. Andy please just hear her out when she's able to talk to you".
Before Andy could answer Dr. Grey came out and told us Elena was awake and that we could go in and see her if we wanted. I looked at Tia sandra and then at Robert. I knew we had stuff to finish before our wedding but I also knew I needed to see my mom. I needed answers. I needed to know why she left me. Why that made Tía Sandra leave me.
Sandra reached out and grabbed Andy's hand. "It's ok Andrea you go we can wait. Go talk to her".
Andy got up and asked Robert to come with her. She didn't want to be alone with her mom. She knew if she was, she'd say or do something she couldn't take back. As Robert walked next to her he could tell how nervous she was. They stopped just outside her room.
He put his hand on hers. "We go in when you're ready. This isn't about accepting her excuses, or her apologies. This is about you finally getting the closure you deserve".
She nodded her head and grabbed his hand, as they walked in the room together.
"Andrea". Elena breathed out.
Seeing her made anger rise in Andy. She wanted to yell, to scream. She didn't want to be in that room with the person who abandoned her and then decided to show up like nothing happened.
Andy sat in a chair next to her bed and in a quiet, shaky voice she said "Why? Why did you leave me"?
"Andy, I wanted to be there for you. But I knew I couldn't. I loved you, but I also resented you. There were days staying at home with you and watching your father get to do the one thing I wanted to do that made me hate him. It made me love you less. It made me depressed. I wanted to die but there was no way out. No way out that wouldn't destroy you so I just left. But please believe when I say I didn't mean to leave you for this long".
Andy started to cry and Robert pulled her into his arms. "It's okay, we can go wherever you're ready".
She looked at Robert and even though she was still mad at him, all that anger inside of her disappeared. She kissed him on the forehead before turning back to face her mom. She reached her hand out and grabbed the hand of the stranger that was her mother.
"I'm so mad at you. I'm so upset with you. But I know you did what was best for you mami. I know you needed to go. But this doesn't excuse the fact that you for twenty years, you let me think you were dead. And now you're back. You just what? You thought you could come back and everything would be fine"?
"No M'ija, I- I missed you. I wanted to come back. I needed to explain everything to you. I need you to know that I'm sorry. That I want to be in your life. I know I wasn't good enough when you were a child but I want to be good enough now. Please".
"Robert and I are getting married in two days. If you show up then i'll know you are serious about wanting to try again".
Andy didn't let her answer back. She grabbed Robert's hand and told him she was ready to go. They walked out of the hospital room and back to where Tía Sandra and Michelle were sitting.
Sandra stood up "How was it"? She asked
"It was fine. Look, I have to go. Robert and I are getting married in two days. I would love it if you both would be there"
"We will"! They both said hugging Andy and Robert goodbye.
Robert helped Andy into the car and then got into the driver seat.
"You know. I'm proud of you". He said reaching out for her hand.
"Why"? She asked, giggling a little.
"The way you were with your mom. I thought you'd be more angry".
"Me too, I learned from you that you can't live your life in anger".
Robert smiled and kissed her. The kiss was so passionate Andy didn't want it to stop.
"Sooo.. I just want to say while you are done being mad at me, I really am excited for this baby. Our baby". He put his hand on Andy's stomach.
Andy placed her hand on top of his "Me too babe. Me too". She said smiling.
