Sasuke got a bit lost in all the chaos and all the screaming and yelling directed at him. He remembered the nurses saying a bunch of words, the most common were "pervert" and "corrupt", but he didn't recall perverting or corrupting anything. After some time he finally understood that people thought he had invited Hinata to watch Sakura do the uglies with Naruto, which made him laugh. That had the opposite effect as intended, as the nurses became actually scared. Sasuke had a built reputation of being pretty stoic and not even trembling at needles, to the point he was sent to therapists to check how a nine year old, even a ninja, could just not show fear to being penetrated.
Sakura and Naruto had discretely covered themselves and in moments Kakashi arrived, certainly being called by orders of some nurse that deemed the kids his responsibility. He seemed really forced to be there, and just brought Sasuke back to his room and told him to be more stealthy when "peeping" next time. Sasuke then mentioned Hinata, and Kakashi repeated: "Peeping". Something clicked on Sasuke's mind, and he moved his chin to agree with his master.
By morning however, Sasuke woke up with a loud discussion happening just outside his room, and a nurse ready to feed him instead of Sakura. Sasuke realized Kakashi was talking with what were clearly Hyuugas, and he realized the "charges" for "corrupting" Hinata hadn't expired yet. But he also didn't really care about it, and went to the bathroom and came back without major worries. Was just when he saw a man in his room in more elevating clothes, with an air of crime boss around him, which he realized how big of a deal was being caught in a sexual situation with a member of the primary clan.
"So, Sasuke Uchiha. I knew your father Fugaku. We are related in fact. We had a few cross-marriages not so long ago. Maybe not Hinata but some of her cousins are your cousins too. Sadly, none of them awakened the Sharingan and likely can't".
"Are you? My memories are a little fuzzy but I don't recall you ever visiting us, 'cousin' Hyuuga".
"Things went badly. Because of your brother. He talked too much".
"Don't tell me, I'm Hanabi's uncle. That would be sad".
"Poisonous tongue. I will thankfully, for you, attribute it to the fact you're pretty injured. Of your attempt at desertion".
"I'm just saying you may say you're a relative of mine, but to me, the nurse who just left showed me more care and love for 5 minutes than you ever did".
"You have a pretty different idea of family than most people. Family is just that, blood relations".
"I guess that is how you Hyuugas think, hence the Curse Mark on children. When they are too young to desert".
"And put our eyes at risk? Look at Kakashi young boy, and think the same eye could be on, I dunno, the brother of the Raikage. Imagine the disaster. The Uchihas were fools to reject our system once we proposed for them to replicate it".
"And yet, I lost to a commoner without any special bloodline like Naruto. Funny how weak the Uchiha are".
Hiashi laughed. Sasuke also did, but he could sense something off-key about the older men's laugh.
"I guess your ancestors were right, you guys didn't need it. I know, it is preserved in historical register what your arguments were".
"But this isn't about our families right? You're here because of Hinata, specifically".
"I will be completely honest, I did not care for Hinata. For me, she is just a redundant member of the family. I will make Hanabi the head. Hinata can marry any commoner and even have kids with them, I will not care about branding these kids, specially since the Hokages said we're not allowed to. But the elders insisted in my intervention and that Hinata's lewd behaviour had to be corrected, otherwise the entire reputation of the Hyuuga clan would fall into pieces. It sounds exaggerated, but I reflected at how poisonous can be the gossip between women, and what I have of paternal instinct told me I would preserve Hinata's honour."
Sasuke shook his head. "I don't understand where you want to reach".
"Be Hinata's boyfriend. Maybe for some months. Let's pretend that what happened tonight was just a product of juvenile curiosity between two lovers researching love making, instead what I think it is".
"What you think it is?"
"Hinata having a voyeur fetish, what more could be? Or are you going to tell me she is a lesbian?"
Sasuke let out a sigh. "Of course he doesn't have a minimal idea Hinata could be interested on Naruto. He is never around her. She is, how he did just said, redundant. Her lack of interest in me back in the Academy and her constant finger wagging when he is nearby were obvious clues".
"Because if she is a lesbian I must immediately tell her about the concept of 'beards' and...".
Sasuke raised his hand, making Hiashi stop. "Believe me sir, I know enough about your daughter to say she certainly wants a man to do...dirty things to her".
Hiashi blinked. "So the nurses weren't completely wrong..."
"Oh no, I'm talking about the BL magazines I saw her looking at some day in a quiet corner of Konoha's streets".
Sasuke was half-lying. He saw Ino reading those things, and Hinata was with her. He didn't think much of it at first but Hiashi made him remember when he mentioned lesbians.
Hiashi's eyes almost jumped out of orbits. "How immoral. I had no such things in my time. This and Jiraiya's novels are a plight on our youth. I knew those book sellers do nothing to prevent minors of having access to such profane material".
Sasuke shook his shoulders in indifference
"Either way, I accept. In fact, what about you call me 'son' from now on?"
"What about you get on that bed and rest so I can beat you up when you're completely healed. Yes, you're now my-son-in-law. Rejoice boy."
Hiashi suddenly left, and Sasuke was left staring at emptiness. "Well, that was awkward..." said the Uchiha, out loud.
Three hours later, Hinata came, right about Sasuke's lunch. He offered something to her, but she refused.
"I'm sorry for...making you see that. I know Sakura used to like you and then, maybe..."
"You misunderstands a lot of things Hinata. All this time, all those girls, it was all very one-sided towards me. In fact, I think you're the only girl in the entire Universe not attracted to me. Even married women look twice at their husbands after seeing me".
Hinata chuckled, innocently. Sasuke almost wanted to give her a kiss for it. There was something pretty adorable and cute about her, something he had always had noticed but ignored.
"I think that makes you special, though I don't would say smarter. What did you saw in Naruto, I'm genuinely curious".
Hinata completely mangled up the following words, her tongue shaking all the time.
"Naruto is always, always, always...he is always trying to be the better ninja he could be. I've watched him for years, and, sometimes, I feel bad because I didn't do anything while other people despised or insulted him. But he always kept going. I was surprised when he passed the exam, and I really wanted to be on his team, but the teams were balanced, so I got to be with Kiba and Shino. Kiba thought Naruto was a complete idiot, and Shino thought Naruto was put on the front lines to be slaughtered. And I just...I just heard they badmouth him. Naruto isn't like me. He just puts out whatever he have in mind. I wished I could be like him".
Sasuke blinked. He realized she was feeling much more unwell than he was, and he was the guy who got hit in the head with Naruto's fist.
"Hinata, I think you misunderstood Naruto. He isn't really as honest as you think".
"What?"
"Naruto has his own weaknesses he doesn't expose. His insults hide weakness. Naruto is just trying to hide his self-loathing".
Sasuke didn't pay attention, but when he turned to Hinata to wait for her answer he saw anger on his eyes, and then a slap followed.
He barely remembered the insults, but there was something in there about him being a coward and traitor, who had lost to Naruto and now called him weak. He honestly didn't expect such an agressive language from Hinata. He guessed Naruto was truly her ultimate anger button.
When her rant was over, and she was gasping for air, Sasuke then continued.
"But I believe he just wants the best for everyone, and despite his flaws he can do these things, but he needs more time. Nobody turns into a kage at 13, right? Never happened, not happening now."
Hinata closed her mouth and just stared at emptiness. And then she turned around and began to walk away. Sasuke wasn't sure if she believed that the second part of his speech had always existed or was created on the moment to avoid more aggression.
"Hey Hinata, you know your father accepted our relationship right? When it was our first official date?"
Hinata stopped for some seconds. She seemed to be thinking.
"When you want". she finally said.
