For a long time, Faith didn't move. She felt numb. Her mind struggled to process the horror of what just happened. Chikorita was gone. Yanma was gone. Jumpluff and Shiftry were gone; held prisoner by Zapdos. He was going to kill them if he hadn't already.
"How do I fight a legendary Pokémon?"
Faith felt powerless. She just laid there, her mind blank.
Then the instinct to survive took over and she pressed the button on her scarf. "Jolteon, if you can hear me. Please come…please come…"
She heard static on the other side. But that was it…Static. "Please…I don't understand why you did what you did. But don't let me die now. My trust is in you now."
A shadow eclipsed her.
Jolteon peeked out from where he was hiding just a few yards away from Faith. He tried to muffle the static and came from his badge. Communication between rescue teams wasn't perfect.
If rescue teams were physically too close in a mystery dungeon; then communication using the badge was impossible.
Hopefully, no one from team Electric would come. Telling his team that he had personal business to take care of, he told them to stay behind. With any luck, they listened but he could never be sure. He was half surprised Faith had not sensed his presence. That spoke to the brokenness in their relationship.
Jolteon walked slowly toward Faith, His footsteps were silent. He came close and stared at Faith.
He signaled Ellis to come near. "We have to get her out of here. But we can't take her back to town. We don't want panic and that will happen if someone finds out what happened here."He inspected their surroundings looked around trying to conceive a plan.
Ellis nodded in agreement. "There's a cave not too far from this mystery dungeon. I will take her there."
He took a deep breath and continued, " Meanwhile, make sure no one from your team heard her call. If they did, say that you tended to Faith and then spit-up. On your way back to the cave make sure you stop and gather supplies for the upcoming battle with Zapdos."
"We can't fight Zapdos." Jolteon said his composure shaken.
"At this point, we don't have a choice. We need to rescue Chikorita and the others."
"She couldn't even win against Genger. And now you want her to fight Zapdos? It's a suicide mission. Even if we fight together, there's no way we will win."
"Oh, Jolteon, your faith in us as a team is extremely limited. But that's why you're supposed to buy supplies. Lots of Oren berries.
Jolteon shook his head but bowed to Ellis in agreement. "Fine, take her to the cave just outside here and care of her until I get back, I might be a few days."
Ellis nodded in agreement as he carefully picked-up Faith and the two Guardians went their separate ways.
Faith could feel the cold ground beneath her feet long before she came to consciousness. She opened her eyes to black. She was confused.
"How did I get here?"
She heard footsteps approaching and she froze.
It didn't take long. Her eyes adjusted to the dark.
There was actually moonlight streaming in through the opening of the cave. She was in a cave. The shadow in front of her was an Espeon. His body half-lit by the moonlight.
"Who are you?" She couldn't stop her voice from shaking.
"You don't remember me?" His voice was soft and familiar.
At first, Faith couldn't place him. Then it all came flooding back. Team Ghost... He was the Espeon from team Ghost! Ellis!.
"What do you want with me?" Faith growled.
"I saved your life." He said simply.
Faith looked herself over. Her wounds were bandaged. Now she was simply confused. "Why did you save my life?"
"Would you have rather died?" he asked, not answering her question.
Faith just stood there. She didn't know how to make sense of what was going on. Chikorita, Yanma, Jumpluff, and Shiftry were probably dead. Even if they were still alive, she had no idea how she was going to save them. She felt lost, a failure as a leader.
"You're thinking about your friends, aren't you?" Ellis asked seeming to read her mind.
Faith turned to him. She nodded, unable to do anything else.
Ellis lifted his head, "We will save them. For now, you need to rest. You can't fight Zapdos with open wounds."
This took Faith by surprise. "What do you mean we?"
"You, Me, and Jolteon" Ellis smiled.
Faith's hope died. "I no longer trust Jolteon, well...not fully."
Ellis nodded. "I understand why, he's not really doing his job."
"Job?"
Ellis turned away. Faith couldn't see his face. "I can only answer your questions once Jolteon is back. So, for now, please rest."
Faith was tired of always being told what to do and no answers.
She could tell by the moon it was late and she no longer had the strength to stand. So, she went back to her place and laid down.
Jolteon decided to slow down his pace. He still hadn't figured out the best course of action yet. Going back seemed like a waste of time when since he was just planning to leave again.
But if he did not return, his team might come looking for him and he couldn't have that.
As he was thinking he looked over the bushes. There were no Oren or Pache berry bushes to speak of around here. He inhaled deeply. He might need to go back to town just to get supplies. That settles it, he thought...He had no choice but to go back to his team.
"Leader, where have you been?" Andrew stood in the doorway as Jolteon entered the team base.
Jolteon pushed past him slowly, "I had something to take care of, you know that. Thank you for watching the team in my absence."
"You're welcome," Andrew said looking worried at his closest friend.
Jolteon walked slowly to his room and closed the door behind him. He felt like he was going to have a breakdown.
He felt like he was losing control. He couldn't deny it now. Faith was the one. The prophecy was finally being fulfilled.
The New Prophecy foretold, of the world's balance has been disrupted. The world will be renewed, or it will end. The world will be regenerated by the sacrifice of innocence, distraction, and the powers of light and dark. The world will be renewed or it will end.
"How can Ellis be so sure?" He asked out loud.
What if they were wrong? Jolteon shook his head to clear his mind. He took a deep breath.
He needed to do as Ellis said and everything would be fine. He also needed to think up another lie to his team to explain his absence.
The trip to Mt. Thunder alone would be almost a week. Then they needed to climb the mountain and fight Zapdos. On top of that, he wasn't even sure he would make it back alive.
How long can my team go without worrying or searching for me?
Jolteon took a few deep breaths. One step at a time... He stepped out of his room and motioned Andrew over.
Andrew walked over slowly. "Is something wrong?"
He tipped his head, clearly worried.
"I need to head back out again. The time to worship Raikou is near. I only came back to check on the team and buy supplies for the trip."
Andrew knew about the bond that Jolteon had with Raikou. He was only of few; he eyed for a second Jolteon but then nodded. "Okay, how long until we assume you dead?"
Jolteon couldn't tell if he was joking or not.
"Give me a month, if I don't return by then you can send out a search party for my body."
Andrew nodded. "When you be leaving?"
"Tomorrow. You and Luxray are in charge of the team until then."
Andrew shook his head accepting but not really understanding. "Okay fine."
Jolteon nodded and watched Andrew walk away.
He walked slowly back to his room and closed the door behind him. He paced around his room planning this suicide mission he had with Ellis.
The shops would be restocked in the early morning. So, he would go there first thing.
Mt. Thunder was filled with Electric and Poison-type Pokemon. So, Oran berries, Pecha berries, and Cheri berries would be the most important. He would take the extra toolbox he had to carry them.
Anxiously he noted the toolbox wasn't that big. He wouldn't be able to carry a lot. He shook his head and tried to calm down. This was no time to let anxiety overtake him.
He decided that the best to do now was get some sleep. He would have to the shop early and then journey back to the cave where Ellis held Faith.
He laid there, unable to sleep...This was the start. Nothing would be the same after this.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Faith moaned as Ellis shook her.
"Come, get up. Jolteon is back."
Faith got up, shaking the sleep from her body. "Chikorita never shook me like that," she said half to herself. She suddenly felt completely overtaken with dread. "Chikorita, will I ever see you again?"
A week had passed since the horror first took place. Faith's wounds were healing nicely but her body was still sore.
She looked glanced around. Sunlight was streaming into the cave.
Joltoen's shadow cast over her.
She could not raise her gaze to meet him. Anger sparked inside her thinking about all that had happened. How could he let this happen? How much she trusted him.
She saw that Jolteon was carrying a toolbox over his shoulder. Why?
"Faith..."
His voice felt cold to her. "Have you eaten yet?"
Faith nodded.
Jolteon whispered something to Ellis and then stood beside him. He turned to Faith "Faith, I am truly sorry...for everything-"
"Save it!" Faith cut him off. Her anger and confusion overwhelmed her.
Jolteon eyes went to the ground.
Faith took a deep breath, "Just explain yourself please" She could already feel tears coming on.
"You're a part of the New Prophecy.-" Jolteon began.
Ellis interrupted Jolteon with a hiss and Jolteon turned glaring at him.
But Ellis continued unbothered. " The world balance has been disrupted. You are meant to save it."
"But how?" Faith questioned trying to focus on Ellis.
"You have special powers. Powers that allow to deeply connect to the Pokemon around you. And that is what you must do to save Chikorita."
Faith turned her eyes downcast. She didn't know to handle this.
"Faith,-" Jolteon spoke suddenly, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you any of this...but I wanted to be sure you were really the one. The Prophecy doesn't give us any sign to watch for..."
"Yeah, you really screwed up there," Ellis said with an angry growl.
Jolteon looked away.
Ellis took over. "Faith...Jolteon and I are meant to help you on this journey. You have the ability to call us if a battle becomes overwhelming. Jolteon was supposed to teach you about your power. But he has failed at his job."
"What abilities do you guys have?" Faith asked.
"I have the ability to sense when you are in danger before a battle goes sideways. I can also sense your life. Basically, I can sense when you are close to death." Jolteon spoke softly.
Ellis rolled his eyes. "I have telepathy and other physic powers. I reveal to you the thoughts of others. I can also communicate with you using visions. But they seem too strong for you to handle and you tend to pass out."
"Wait...so, you're the one I've been hearing?"
Ellis nodded, "Yes. I did it to try to awaken your power and make you aware of it."
"So, with Genger, that was you? Are you the reason I heard his thoughts?"
"Yes," Ellis nodded. "Also, from now on stay away from Genger. I don't know what he wants with you but he's dangerous."
Faith nodded slightly. "What about my dreams?"
Ellis looked at her confused; then he turned to Jolteon, "Dreams?"
Jolteon sighed, "She had a dream where the spirit of a Pokemon tried to communicate with her. Is that right Faith?"
"I think so...I don't remember it very well."
"Have you had any other dreams like it?" Ellis asked.
Faith shook her head.
"Okay, well...No, I am not responsible for the dreams. Just the visions."
"In that case, can you get out of my head? Your telepathy makes me think I'm going to die."
Ellis just smiled as he spoke it widened. "Don't worry, I'll teach you how to handle it."
This was hard for Faith to process. "How can I save the world? She asked aloud. "I couldn't even save Chikorita."
Ellis came close to her. "We are going to help you save him. That's why Jolteon went out and got supplies. We need to leave now. We can't waste any more time."
Faith made eye contact with Jolteon. She made sure to stare deep into his soul. "What if I don't trust you guys? Ellis, you were on team Ghost. I don't trust either of you."
Ellis smiled a grin so wide it showed teeth and said coldly. "You're acting like you have a choice."
