On the day of the Slateport Pokemon Contest Ashlyn was busy reassuring May while Alain went to distract Max by introducing him to Mairin his younger sister
"Oh my God what if I mess up and forget" May said freaking out
"I highly doubt that May" Ashlyn said as she held her sister's hands "Don't worry you'll do wonderfully and just to make sure I have a good luck gift for you"
"What is it?" May asked before Ashlyn pulled out a pearl necklace with an unofficial contest ribbon on ten middle "Oh Ashlyn but this ribbon was your win?"
"It was but now it's yours to remind you that I'll always be there to cheer you on even if you can't see me and those pearls were my papa's first gift to me they use to belong to my grandmother" Ashlyn said smiling
"Then I shouldn't wear them" May said pushing the necklace back
"May, my psychic grandmother gave my papa two necklaces because he told me in her dreams she always saw two beautiful girls, her granddaughters one by blood and one by love" Ashlyn said smiling as she saw May's watery eyes "She saw us your just as much her granddaughter because your my sister and I love you so much little sis"
"Ashlyn" May said as she let Ashlyn hook the necklace around her neck "I promise to never take it off"
"I know you won't" Ashlyn said before she wiped her eyes "Now let's go before we cry more"
"Yeah" May said smiling as she wiped her tears
After making sure their faces were dry and no sign of their earlier water works were evident they made their way to the contest building where Max and Alain were already waiting
"Knock them dead" Ashlyn whispers to May as she makes her way to Max and Alain
Once May was in the Coordinator's waiting room she looked down at her new necklace in awe, she still couldn't believe that her elder sister gave her such a precious gift and honestly she felt like she was unworthy of it but she all she could do now is make Ashlyn proud of her
"Oh if it isn't the newbie" the green haired boy from the beach said making May glare at him
"What do you want?" May growled out
"Here kindly give this to your sister" he said handing her a rose "She certainly is a lady of refined taste"
"Sorry but my sister is allergic to jerks" May said turning her head to the side making the boy with long brown hair, green eyes and pale skin wearing a normal tuxedo with a red tie sitting next to her snicker
"Tsk" the boy said before he stomped away from her
"Nice one" The boy next to her said still snickering before he held out his hand "I'm Philip Justine White, PJ for short by the way"
"May Maple" May said shaking it smiling
"So first Contest?" he asked
"Yeah but he insulted my pokemon the first time we met and now he's trying to flirt with my sister through me" May said trying to explain things to him
"Wow sis that sucks" PJ said understanding why she didn't like the arrogant green head

Meanwhile in the audience stands Alain was silently observing Ashlyn as she was talking to Max about something he also noticed that lots of other boys were leering at her and that made him angry
"Alain?" Ashlyn asked when she noticed his foul mood "What's wrong?"
"Nothing important" he said before turning his attention back to the appeals of the green haired boy from yesterday
"Hm despite his arrogance he is a decent coordinator of not a bit much" Ashlyn said as the green haired boy left the stage
"What do you mean nee-san?" Max asked not knowing a lot about Pokémon contests in general
"Later I'll explain everything" Ashlyn said as she silently observed May walking in stage

"Now our next contestant May Maple from Petalburg City!" Vivian introduced before May walked in stage looking around for her sister and when she found her she began
"Beautifly take the stage!" May called out before releasing her Beautifly as it was bering surrounded by sparkles "3 Shadow Ball and quickly follow it up with 3 Energy Ball then use Psychic to gather them in one area"
As May finished her commands Beautifly already had three shadow balls and three energy balls launched she immediately controlled the spheres to gather in the middle of the stage
"Now Solar Beam" May said before Beautifly launched the powerful grass type move at the spheres resulting in everyone being showered by purple, green, yellow and white sparkles
"Oh that was such a well executed appeals and Beautifly is clearly very well taken care of too"Slateport's Nurse Joy praised
"Indeed Remarkable" Mr. Sukizo of the Pokemon fan club said
"I can hardly believe that this is your first contest young lady you seem to know exactly how to present your pokemon" Mr. Contests the Head judge praised before May bowed and left the stage with Beautifly

"She was amazing" Max exclaimed happily as Ashlyn held a very excitable Eevee
"I have no doubt she's going to pass through smoothly but after that is the hard part" Ashlyn said thinking back on how May did in her battle round training
"You may be right we practiced time limited battles but we never introduced any sort of appeals to it" Alain said also thinking back on their training
"Well May is bright she'll be able to do it" Ashlyn said smiling as the last coordinator started his appeals

After a quick deliberation all that moved on to the battle rounds were paired up and as luck would have it May was the first to battle which got her nervous
"Go Oddish" her opponent said as he released his Weed Pokemon
"Beautifly take the stage" May exclaimed as she released her Beautifly
"Oddish sleep powder now"
"Beautifly silver wind while spinning" May command and the result was a beautiful counter shield making her opponent lose a substantial amount of points since the sleep powder was helping to present Beautifly beautifully
"Razor Leaf"
"Use your String Shot as a whip to stop those leaves" May commanded before in Beautifly did just that with great speed and accuracy thanks to training with Pikachu it also made her opponent lose even more points "Shadow Ball!"
"Time is up and the coordinator heading to the next round is May Maple from Petalburg" Vivian said happily after the busser sounded

Soon enough after PJ beat Drew during the semi finals he stood in front of May who had also beaten her opponent in the semi finals and as the clock started counting down both coordinators immediately released their pokemon
"Beautifly! Take stage" May said as she released Beautifly who was surrounded by blue petals
"Leafeon have at it" PJ called out as he released the Verdant Pokemon

"Oh wow that's the grass type evolution of Eevee" Max gushed as Eevee stared in awe at the Verdant Pokémon
"Hmm interesting" Ashlyn said as she pulled out her pokedex

Verdant Pokemon
It's cellular composition is closer to that of a plant than an animal. It uses photosynthesis to produce its energy supply without eating food. Although it doesn't like disputes, it will sharpen the fead on its tail into a blade and fight if it has to protect its friends.
"Sound like a pokemon my little sister would like" Alain comment

"Leafeon Magical Leaf!" PJ commands before Leafeon released several multicolored leaves towards Beautifly
"String Shot!" May said before Beautifly used her string shot to whip all the leaves to stop "Now psychic to send them back and gust"
"Aerial Ace to dodge!" PJ said just in time as Leafeon sped away the leaves hit the ground he previously stood on "Seed Bomb!"
"Electroweb!" May said allowing Beautifly to envelope the seed bomb in an electric net making them explode away from her also creating beautiful sparkles of yellow, purple and green deducting PJ's points reaching the half way mark "Air Cutter! "
"Leaf Blade!" Leafeon cut through the air cutter with her tail deducting May's points just before the alarm sounded notifying both coordinators that the time was up
"Times up and the winner of the Slateport City Pokemon contest is...May Maple and her Beautifly" Vivian announced receiving a loud cheer from the crowd

After May received her first ribbon she hugged Ashlyn tightly and chanted thank you like a never ending mantra then she did the same to Alain who just chuckled at her antics
