Becoming a parent was one of the greatest things that happened to Harvey. Yes, it was scary at first, but seeing those little hazel eyes every time their son looked at him made every fear fade away.
From the moment he made his presence known, little James Gordon Paulsen-Specter was momma's boy from the beginning. Even though he was the spitting image of his father - with his mother's hazel eyes - the comforting smell of his mother was something he couldn't let go of so easily.
Except for when he became sick.
Then it was Harvey who he searched for every time he couldn't see or feel him. At first, it was kind of funny and cute, but then it became frustrating when it intervened with his work.
But Harvey wouldn't change it for the world. He loved being a father. Especially on days like these, when he came from the pharmacy around the corner with the needed prescription for Jamie's ear infection and saw his little guy snuggling into Donna as he breastfed, taking in everything around him in awe... in that moment, Harvey thought that nothing ever compared to the image before him.
"How is he?"
"A little better," Donna said as she looked at their little one with a smile. "The amoxicillin they gave him helped."
"That's my guy!" Closing the distance between them, Harvey sat next to Donna on the couch and pressed a kiss to her temple. "I love you."
"I love you, too." She kissed him, this time a quick peck on his lips. After that, their attention shifted back to Jamie.
A moment passed. Little Jamie finished nursing and burping before they moved to the nursery. Putting him in the crib, and tucking him in, they stayed there for a while watching him sleep.
Wrapping his arms around his wife, Harvey rested his head on her shoulder as he ushered them to their bedroom. But Donna shook her head. "I want to stay here for a bit longer."
"Donna, he's sleeping."
"But he's sick, Harvey!"
"We have the monitor in our bedroom."
"I know. I just—" Donna sighed, her eyes never leaving her little boy. Still traumatized from their earlier ER visit and his heartbreaking cries. "I don't want to leave him alone."
Harvey fought the urge to smirk. As much as their son was a momma's boy, Donna was obsessed with him, too. Never leaving his side, always paying attention to him. It also made Harvey sigh theatrically. "Okay, fine. He can sleep with us today."
Without answering, Donna moved to scoop their son up, and was almost out of the door when Harvey added: "But you better not make this a tradition Mrs. Paulsen - Specter..."
She was almost in their bedroom when Harvey heard her speak to Jamie. "We'll see about that, won't we, Bug?"
Rolling his eyes, Harvey followed his wife. Yeah, he wouldn't change a single thing.
