Chapter 12

~Inuyasha~

He was dreading this moment, he walked to the building and stared at it for a solid 10 minutes. Sesshomaru was going to rip him a new asshole today and this time, fire him. Police should never work on a case when someone close to them is involved, the officer can become obsessed trying to solve the case. Sighing, Inuyasha rubbed the back of his neck, and walked into the building. He took the elevator to the destined floor and got off. He walked down the hallway and into the offices.

Sango was already at her desk and jumped in a panic when she saw him. She waved at him to come talk to her, and already knowing what she wanted to say he mentally prepared himself for this shit day it was going to be.

"You never told me the case that you're working on, involved the girl from your date the other day!" She whispered, keeping her voice low to keep eavesdroppers from listening in.

"Well, I didn't think it mattered! Whether or not I'm here I'd be busting my ass searching for her!" He explained loudly, Sango saw other people looking at them from the desks and she had to shush Inuyasha to keep his voice down.

"Look, I'm just doing my job as best as I can without causing too much trouble. I'm already on the bad side of Sesshomaru and I'm not planning on staying there." Inuyasha gruffly replied as Sango gave him a reassuring look.

"I just hope you know what you are getting yourself involved with, I'm worried about you." Sango gently spoke as she rubbed her right arm. "I trust you, I really do Inuyasha, but I don't want you to lose the job you worked so hard to get. Just be careful, Miroku and I are here if you need anything."

Inuyasha gave her a big smile, "Thank you, Sango. I'll be seeing Sesshomaru now."

Sango nodded, "Please do. He's waiting for you."

Inuyasha walked to Sesshomaru's office, knocking on the door before entering. Sesshomaru sat elegantly in his office chair, his hands clasped in his lap. He didn't blink as he watched Inuyasha settle in the chair in front of his desk. Silence sank over the office as no one said a word, the tension in the air building up like static before a storm. Inuyasha eyed Sesshomaru warily, it was odd he wasn't taking shots at him as soon as he walked in, but he felt that Sesshomaru was waiting for his turn to attack.

Sesshomaru sighed heavily as he sat up, moving his hands to his desk top.

"I brought you back to work on this case, thinking I can give you another chance, and I hear you already know the victim? In fact, it appears you have gotten quite intimate with her?" Sesshomaru stated as he unclasped his hands to reach for the copies of the phone records sent to him. He opened it to the section marked off with Inuyasha's conversation with Kagome.

"Listen I-"

"YET, you fail to acknowledge this major factor in the investigation." Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes in frustration. "I have given chance after chance to prove that you can be a good cop but you still fail to COOPERATE ON MATTERS WITH ME!"

Inuyasha sat there in silence, like a school kid being scolded by the principal. He inhaled slowly and then slowly exhaled. He tried not to get just as angry as his half brother, he didn't want to turn this into a full on battle, he needed to be on this case, he needed to be calm for Kagome's sake.

"When is it going to get through that thick skull of yours that I am your direct boss! I need to know this information! If I had known beforehand that you knew the victim I would have NEVER asked you to be on this case, you know the rules! You can't work on the case if if you know the victim this is a simple rule to follow, yet you can't even follow this most basic rule."

Sesshomaru stopped to catch his breath, he exhaled slowly as he continued to speak.

"You're off the case."

"WHAT?" Inuyasha bellowed as he jumped up slamming his hands down on Sesshomaru's desk, who didn't even flinch at the motion.

"This is final, I'm done giving you chances, quite frankly I'm deciding if I even want to keep you on the force. Just because you share our father's blood does not mean I have to keep you around, there are better people to give them a chance to be on this police force." Sesshomaru argued.

"This is bullshit," Inuyasha spat. "I know I failed to tell you I knew the victim, but I didn't know here for very long, you can even see that in the records. But even if you kick me off the force, know this, that I will stop at nothing to find this girl. I will use any resource I can get my hands on to find her. The only thing I ask of you, is to keep me on this case until I solve it, after that if you still don't want me working here, fire me all you want. BUT only WHEN I solve this case."

Sesshomaru stared at him for a long moment before responding, leaning back in his chair.

"Why should I even give you another chance, all you have given me is nothing but trouble."

"I think i have the best chance to solve this case, and I know i have fucked up really bad in the past, but I want you to give me another shot at this. I'm serious about this, if you still have problems with me at the end of this case then go ahead, fire me. I really want you to allow me to work on this case."

"Listen here, little brother, " Sesshomaru sarcastically began but then took on a more serious note. "This will be your last chance. Screw this up and I will personally throw you out of this building. If you discover any other crucial evidence in this investigation, you are to report to me right away, if you fail to do so I have full right to terminate you on the spot, got it?"

Inuyasha's chest swelled with excitement, he still has a chance to solve this case, he needs to tread carefully, but at least he has this one last chance to find her. He remained calm on the exterior as he didn't want to let Sesshomaru know how excited he was.

"I understand."

"Good," Sesshomaru said as he put away the phone record. "Get out of my office."

Inuyasha stood up and left the office. He found Miroku sitting at his desk and gave him the biggest grin he ever gave him.

"How are you even alive and walking around the office?" Miroku jokes.

"And with no scratches even. So what have you figured out in the meantime?" Inuyasha asked him as he stood over Miroku.

"Well, I think our first step is to follow up with the convenience store, and get some information on this guy that is harassing the victim." Miroku explained as he gathered his jacket and stood up.

"Right, let's go."
