I'm back! It's been a while since I've written for anything on here and I'm really glad to be back. I'll try and write a little bit more soon! but enjoy this piece!
Tanith sat on the marron coloured sofa in her front room, a cup of tea clasped between her hands. Staring at her TV waiting for Val to come in, they'd decided that they were going to have a film night, where she could actually show Val Star Wars.
"Val?" she called, she swore that she'd only said that she was getting some popcorn, "What you are doing going to England for it?" she called when her friend made a grunting noise.
"No, it's your frigging microwave," Val popped her head around the doorframe.
"My microwave works find on dinners; you just aren't using it properly!" Tanith laughed "That's the downside of hanging around with a man that doesn't eat, you don't know how to use normal day to day machines properly."
"Good point," Valkyrie said walking into the living room, a large bowl of popcorn in her hands, she set it down on the coffee table and plopped down on to the sofa.
"Erm, Tanith?" She asked after the first film had finished.
"Yeah?" looking at her friend with suspicion.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes." She replied quickly, and keeping her eyes fixed on the TV.
"Are you sure? You don't seem to be yourself," Tanith didn't want to admit to her best friend that she wasn't okay, but she wasn't sure how to explain how she was feeling.
"I'm fine, I just haven't had the best time recently, given the time of year" this time of year was around the same time that Ghastly had died, and she wasn't there.
Valkyrie just looked at her friend, seeing something behind her eyes that didn't match up with what she was saying.
"I never got to say goodbye," she muttered after a few minutes of silence.
"What do you mean?"
"He died and I wasn't there, had I been, and I could have saved him," she admitted, sighing she picked up a small bit of paper that was under her coffee table.
It had been a piece of Ghastly's drawings, she'd managed to pick it up when she went to his shop a couple of months ago. In a way she felt close to him, it was silly but in her mind years ago, Ghastly had hunched over this bit of paper to make one of Skulduggery's suits or her boots.
"Tanith, you don't know that," Valkyrie told her, she'd kicked herself ever since for not noticing sooner that Ravel was a backstabber.
"But I do know that Val, I saved Mr. Bliss from back in the day from an assassin. I could have handled Ravel before he put a knife in Ghastly."
"Tanith…" Val's voice trailed off as she put her arm around her friend.
"I miss him, I don't ever remember what my last conversation with him was, do you know what that like?"
"Tanith, you can't blame yourself for this, it was Ravels fault and he paid for it. That's not saying that he now has a clean slate it's that he's no longer a threat to anyone and we don't need to worry about him,"
"I don't worry about him," She practically spat, "If it wasn't for him we'd still have Ghastly, I'd still have Ghastly!" she cried, letting the years of unshed tears run down her face.
"Tanith it will be okay," Valkyrie said softly wrapping her arms around Tanith and letting her cry into her shoulder.
"It will be okay," she said again until Tanith nodded into her shoulder.
