Author's Note: It took me some time to write about our resident gentleman. I have to watch old TeniMyu Dream Live performance of Baba Toru and Masataka Nakagauchi to find inspiration. Now my inner fangirl has awaken. Anyway, enjoy ^^
Running to an Eye Glassed Gentleman 2
My god I thought you were a someone to rely on, Me? I guess I am a shoulder to cry on.
"She wanted a divorce.", Yagyuu's opening statement during his consultation with his lawyer.
"Oh? Did she catch you having an affair? Who would have thought you got a mistress?", his lawyer teased.
Yagyuu sighed in annoyance. "Can you take my case seriously, Niou? My marriage is on the rock and all you can do is accuse me of marital infidelity. Maybe I should not consult this to you in the first place."
Niou smirked while watching his frustrated best friend's face. "If not cheating, then on what grounds did she file for a divorce?", the trickster asked as he leaned his chin on his hand and scanned his best friend who is sitting across the table.
"Irreconcilable marital indifference.", our resident gentleman replied and he pushed his eye glasses upward.
Niou can't help it but roll his eyes. "I am pretty sure that you knew from the start your extreme differences. You are conservative; she is open-minded. You are organized; she is scattered brain. You are workaholic; she is lazy as hell. You are a doctor; she is an accident prone person. You are peace loving; she is a war freak. Should I remind you how much scandal your wife caused at the Prime Minister's dinner party three years ago?"
Yagyuu suddenly felt headache upon remembering that dreadful night three years ago when her wife, who was then his girlfriend, got in a catfight during the Prime Minister's party. As the heiress of Mori Group of Companies, his wife represented her family on the Prime Minister's dinner party. However, her wife wasn't able to control her annoyance when she saw her nemesis heiress on the party wearing the same outfit as hers. Their unfriendly meeting has led to a catfight where nobody wanted to give up. Yagyuu did his best to break the two from fighting. He received long red marks of scratches on his face due to the incident. A video clip of the outrageous event even becomes viral in social media.
"Or maybe she found out that you love me more than you love her?", the trickster flashed a devilish grin as he enjoyed tormenting his so called best friend.
"Unfortunately, I never loved you even in my worst nightmare.", Yagyuu fought back with a cold glare under his eye glasses. "Don't give others the wrong idea about my sexuality."
"Aww.. that hurts. Hiroshi-kun shattered my already bleeding heart into pieces." Niou teased playfully. When he was satisfied teasing the gentleman, he shifted to a lawyer-client conversation on the possibility of saving his best friend's marriage. "Yagyuu, before you leave, I want you to think about this question. Why did you marry her in the first place?"
The question left Yagyuu off-guard. Why did he marry his wife again? The truth is, he also doesn't know. It has been 5 years since they met and got into a relationship after his wife straightforwardly told him that she wanted him to be her boyfriend. Mori Yukino is a very dangerous woman to reckon with. She is from one of the wealthiest family in Japan that is almost par with Atobe family's net worth. They got married after Yukino showed a fake pregnancy test result to her parents since she knew that they won't allow her to marry him. Yagyuu actually fainted in horror upon knowing what Yukino did. His reputation as a gentleman was tarnished because of the girl's unconventional way of getting things that she likes. However, a change of heart happened to his wife now. She filed a divorce.
After his consultation with Niou, he got a phone call from his wife informing that her lawyer shall contact him anytime soon. Yukino even informed Yagyuu that the court hearing for the divorce shall commence once she and their three years old twins returned from their South Korea vacation to attend a wedding.
"Yukino, let us sort this out once you return with the kids, ok?", Yagyuu pleaded while trying to maintain his calm composure over the phone.
"No! We have nothing to sort out. I want you to sign the divorce papers once return. In that way, you will be free to stay at the hospital all the rest of your life as a brilliant doctor. Isn't it what you like? As if you got no family waiting for you at home every night. Don't give me the crap that you are busy saving lives!", Yukino shouted over the phone without giving a chance for the gentleman to speak.
"I love you.", Yagyuu replied after Yukino finished her narrative.
"Go to hell Hiroshi! I hate –" Suddenly, a sound of crashing vehicles and gun shots were heard in the background as Yukino screamed.
Yagyuu paused for a moment trying to assess the situation on the other line. "Yukino? Are you alright? Yukino?!"
The call ended and Yagyuu's heart beat raced frantically. He immediately informed his in-laws of what he heard over the phone. In less than 30 minutes, they confirmed from the Japanese embassy that his wife and twins have been held hostages by a syndicate group that was being chased by the Interpol.
Every second that passed is a torture to him. Yukino's parents have provided him a chartered flight to South Korea to monitor the situation. The hostage taking was strictly confidential that it was kept away from the public since most of the hostages were high profile people.
Yagyuu introduced himself to the police officers who handled the negotiation with the hostages. After quite some time, the hostage takers send a message to the police. They demanded that a private jet be provided to them so that they can escape in exchange of the hostages. When the police officers don't give in their demands, the hostage takers threatened to throw a hostage outside the window of the 40th storey hotel where they are every 15 minutes.
Yagyuu's anxiety grew as he held his mini heart attack. What if it's not a bluff? What if they choose his wife or children to be their victim to throw outside the window? He desperately needed to do something. Suddenly, the police received another call from the hostage takers. They are demanding for a doctor since one of the hostage takers who earlier got a minor gunshot wound had seizure. Yagyuu deduced that maybe the person got a wound infection. He saw it as an opportunity to infiltrate the hostage location so he volunteered to check on the delirious member of the hostage takers even though the police were strongly against it. He is a doctor after all and it is his duty to treat any person including criminals.
He entered the hotel and he was guided via phone patch on where he should go. The hostage takers were fully equipped with deadly weapons. I was not an ordinary hostage taking. He smelled death in the atmosphere. He walked across the room and saw the hostages and the hostage takers. In a corner is his wife with their twins. They didn't recognize him since he disguised himself as a different person; all thanks to Niou for influencing him to be a master of disguise.
He examined the wounded hostage taker and diagnosed him of infection and tetanus. He said that a vaccine that is not available on his doctor's bag should be administered. The hostage takers were skeptical of his diagnosis yet they took his advice to send them the vaccine.
Yukino sat on the ground still hugging her children. She eyed the foolish doctor who volunteered to enter the lions' den just to treat the wounded hostage taker. She thought of Yagyuu. Maybe her soon to be ex-husband will do the same if he is with them; knowing how devoted he is to his profession.
The delivery of the vaccine was actually a planned move for the rescue team to infiltrate the hotel further. The rescue team commenced their operation when the vaccine was handed over to the hostage takers. Chaos and confusion took over and some of the hostages attempted to escape.
Knowing the cue for the rescue operation, Yagyuu immediately went to his family. He took the chaos as an opportunity to escape with them. Without any word, he dragged his wife and kids away from the catastrophe. However, one of the hostage takers noticed them. Good thing that he is unarmed with a gun so Yagyuu's resort was to engaged him in a fist fight.
"Run, Yukino! Take the children towards the emergency exit!", he shouted as he wrestled with the hostage taker.
His wife was in a daze. Who is this foolish doctor to know her name? Nonetheless, she followed his instruction and escape with her children towards the emergency exit. She and her twins were almost caught again but to her surprise, somebody saved them by hitting the hostage taker from behind. It was her nemesis heiress whom she had a catfight three years ago that saved her. She muttered thank you and continued to run until somebody from rescue team found her and her twins.
The dreadful event has finally come to an end though some of the hostage takers managed to escape through hijacking. There were also injured hostages. Yukino sat on the bench as paramedics checked if she and her twins were unharmed. When she saw her nemesis heiress on a stretcher being carried by group of paramedics, she stopped them for a bit and made amends to her. It is not her character to apologize of her mistakes but this time, she owed her life and her children's life to her nemesis. Then she remembered the foolish doctor who let her escape. She approached a police officer and asked for the said doctor.
"Ah, the volunteer doctor. He is the husband of one of the hostages like you. He volunteered against all odds since he is too worried about his wife and twins. He even disguised himself not to make them worried of his dare devil act.", the police officer replied then suddenly frowned. "But unfortunately he got stabbed."
Yukino paled upon hearing the police's story. The foolish doctor was no other than Yagyuu. Why didn't she recognize him? It never crossed her mind that her husband will flew to South Korea just to save her after all the hurtful remarks she always hurl on him. Moreover, she panicked when she learned that he was stabbed.
"Is he alright? Where is he?", she asked badly. Her twins pulled the hem of her long sleeves as if asking why she is she so worried. Although she said she wanted to divorce Yagyuu, the truth is, she still loves him. She decided a divorce because she thought that her husband doesn't love her the same way as she does.
Yukino started to sob. This is not what she wanted. Suddenly, she was embraced by a warm hug from behind. "Why are you crying?"
The voice was like a familiar music to her ears. She immediately turned to face him. "Anata.. are you alright? Does it hurt?"
The gentleman nodded.
"Where are you stabbed?", Yukino tried to examine her husband worriedly.
"Here.", Yagyuu pointed to his heart. Actually, he was stabbed on his arm.
There was a long silence and Yukino raised an eye brow. "Are you fooling me?"
Sweat dropped on Yagyuu's chin despite the cold weather. His wife was back to her original self and it will be a disaster for him if he didn't gave her a satisfying answer. "Look Yukino, let me explain..", Yagyuu tried to reason out but it was too late. Yukino pulled him for a kiss.
The gentleman got lost of words. "That is your punishment for making me worry.", his wife said when she broke from the kiss.
"How about the divorce?", Yagyuu asked.
"Unless you want it.", Yukino smirked.
Why did he marry his wife again? Yagyuu smiled as he now knew the answer. He married her because no matter how primadonna she is, he loves her from the start. He realized how much Yukino meant to his life five days before Christmas Eve.
