Chapter Fourteen: Supply Closets
"Here," Arizona held out a warm scone and cup of coffee, a little steam rising from the mug. "I thought I'd grab you some breakfast."
"Thank you," The brunette said simply as she accepted the food, having just been startled out of a semi-dozed-off state.
"I'm sorry," The other woman blurted, "I shouldn't have yelled at you like that. I know you're going to do your best because you always, always do. I just thought about how traumatic losing my leg was and I couldn't bear thinking that it was my fault something like that happened. You don't have to do this alone, I want to help. And, if we do our best and the leg still has to go, it has to go. I trusted you to make the right call before and you did. I want you to know I trust you now just as much if not more." The blonde stopped, trying to gauge the brunette's reaction. The ortho surgeon's shoulder started to shake as the woman fought off sobs.
"Oh, Callie!" Arizona sat down in the pew next to her ex-wife, putting an arm around her and pulling her close. "It's okay. It's okay."
"I've gone over it again and again," The brunette explained, hot tears of frustration rolling down her cheeks. "I can't see it. I don't know what to do."
"That's okay," The fetal surgeon assured her, rubbing the other woman's arm comfortingly. "You are a brilliant surgeon. If there isn't anything more that you can do other than amputate, then there really isn't anything more to do."
"But I-" The brunette began again, pulling away to look at her ex-wife.
"There's not anything more to do, Callie." Arizona interrupted firmly, pulling tissues from her pocket and passing them to the ortho surgeon. "You've been up all night, you should get some sleep now." Too tired to argue, the brunette simply nodded, taking a bite of the scone.
"This chapel is peaceful," The blonde commented, taking in the morning light streaming through the large stained glass windows. "It reminds me of the-" She stopped short upon turning back to see Callie asleep sitting straight up, mouth hanging open. The blonde smiled to herself, taking in the brunette's long lashes, defined eyebrows, smooth toned skin, and plump lips. Sofia looks so much like her. Arizona mused, gently pulling the warm coffee cup and half-eaten pastry from the other woman's hands.
"Let's get you to an on call room," The blonde gently pulled Callie to her feet, the other woman followed without resistance, barely staying upright. It was a short walk to the nearest on call room and Arizona helped the brunette settle onto the bed, tugging off her shoes and pulling the covers over her ex-wife tenderly.
"Stay." The orthopedic surgeon grabbed the blonde by the wrist as she turned to go. "Just stay." Arizona smiled softly, climbing into the bed next to the other woman. The brunette was warm and hearing their breathing rise and fall in rhythm was soothing. Arizona hadn't realized how much she missed the simple moments like this. They would figure this out. It was going to be okay. The orthopedic surgeon shifted in her sleep, turning to rest her head on Arizona's chest. The blonde pressed a kiss to the brunette's dark curls, breathing in the flowery scent of the other woman. They were together and when it came right down to it, nothing else mattered.
…
"Tenblade." Callie said firmly, feeling the instrument placed into her palm a second later. "Here we go." She made the incision across the leg, exposing the shattered bone fragments above the knee cap. Pausing for a moment, she looked at the fragmented pieces, hating to give up on a challenge but knowing Arizona was right, there wasn't anything else she could do.
"Forceps." Instrument in hand, Callie hovered over the leg once more, an idea forming in her head. It could work. It could really work. "Change of plan, people."
Several hours of surgery later, Callie watched in satisfaction as she watched the gurney roll away. She felt ecstatic. I did it! The ortho surgeon clasped her hands together, looking up. We did it. Thank you. Not wasting another moment, Callie pulled off her gown and gloves, heading to seek out her ex-wife. After asking around, she found the blonde in a room speaking to a recovering pregnant woman and her husband. Callie leant against the counter, enjoying the view in front of her. The fetal surgeon laughed at a joke the father made and the sound of her laughter making the brunette smile as memories ran through her mind. Arizona spotted the ortho surgeon waiting and slipped out of the room, sliding the door shut behind her.
"How did it go?" The blonde asked, setting her iPad down on the counter and turning to her ex-wife. Callie broke into a huge grin, unable to hold back her elation.
"How did it go?" Arizona repeated curiously, smiling back, "What happened?"
"I fixed it, Arizona." The brunette laughed at the look of shock that crossed the other woman's face. "No amputation. I fi-" Her words were cut off as the fetal surgeon launched herself at the other woman, throwing her arms around her neck.
"You fixed it," She repeated, pulling back to look at the ortho surgeon with a super magic smile on her face. "Calliope, you fixed it!"
"You know what this calls for?" The brunette asked, raising an eyebrow, "A celebration."
"Agreed." Arizona confirmed, squinting her eyes. They made their way down the hallway together, ducking into a supply closet. The blonde locked the door, turning around to find her ex-wife already shirtless.
"Not wasting any time today, are we?" She asked teasingly, her eyes taking in the view as she moved closer.
"Haven't we done enough of that already?" The brunette countered, closing the distance between them, her breasts brushing against Arizona's, their noses inches apart.
"I think so." The blonde replied, smiling as she leant in. The contact was sudden, heated, and intense. Lips moving over each other as if this was their first time, every touch and taste eliciting a thrill of pleasure. Arizona's hands roamed Callie's bare back, making their way down to her ass. The ortho surgeon reciprocated, pulling off the blonde's scrub top and tossing it to the floor. Pale smooth skin met the brunette's skilled fingers as pulled the other woman tighter toward her. Arizona moved downwards, placing light lingering kisses on the brunette's neck as she moved toward the collarbone. The orthopedic surgeon dug her hands into the blonde's hair, her breathing growing more rapid as she felt Arizona's teeth press against her skin before the blonde sucked in. The door handle rattled loudly, causing the woman to part.
"Occupied!" Arizona called out, admiring the red mark blossoming on the other woman's chest before leaning back in to finish what they'd started.
"Oh thank god, Dr. Robbins!" The intern called through the door, relief évident in his voice. "Clara Williams in room three is SURE she's going into labor and keeps insisting to see you."
"Distract her with something else, Charlie." Arizona instructed, annoyed at being interrupted. "You and I both know it's no use my hanging around her hospital room for no reason. Come get me when she's dilated to a 10."
"That's just it," Charlie replied, his voice pinched with stress, "I think I can see the baby's head."
"What?!" The blonde exclaimed, twisting to face the door even though she couldn't see the intern. "I'll be right there!"
"Interns," The fetal surgeon sighed, retrieving her scrub top. "I will be so glad when Estie returns so she can have her interns back. I swear it's like they don't remember anything I teach them."
"I think I'd like to learn a thing or two more, Dr. Robbins" Callie teased, her voice heavy with suggestion.
"You're terrible!" Arizona scolded, unable to hold back a smile.
"I'm just saying," The ortho surgeon said smoothly, pulling her scrub top on, "I'd hate to leave a lesson unfinished." The blonde bit back another smile, shaking her head as she left the supply closet. That woman always knew how to make her lose her mind...

I've missed the spontaneous supply closet make-outs with these two! I love their easy chemistry and I'm excited to see them continue to work together at Mount Sinai. Good things ahead for Calzona!
