DM Margo Alone Chapter 15

Bratt helped his partner to his feet. ''You didn't lose any teeth!'' he said, ''Come on, she went to the second floor''. ''Hey why don't you guys try the stairs?'' Margo called from above. ''Right'' said a dense Bratt. The two burglars headed for the stairs. ''Wait a minute!'' said El Macho remembering the paint cans on ropes from before, ''Remember what happened last year?''.

''Let's get her!'' shouted El Macho. He stomped his feet on the stairs to make it sound like he was running up them. Margo heard the stomping and threw a paint can tied to a rope over the banister just like she'd done in her own house! El Macho quickly picked up a crowbar and let the paint can hit it. ''Ow!'' he said, pretending that the paint can had hit him, ''She busted me right in my mouth Bratt!''.

"Don't worry, El Macho!" Bratt jeered, ''I'll get her!''. Bratt stomped his feet too and Margo threw down a second paint can tied to a rope. Bratt used the crowbar to deal with the second paint can and pretended it hit him. ''Ow!'' he said loudly, ''Right in the schnoz!''. ''Come on, let's get her!'' muttered El Macho, he and Bratt started to head up the stairs thinking they were safe.

But then Margo threw a big heavy black metal pipe on a rope over the banister. "Oops!" said Bratt. BANG! The pipe hit both burglars in the face knocking them back down the stairs, through a huge hole at the bottom and back into the basement. Bratt and El Macho screamed as they fell side by side.

Then Margo cut the rope holding the pipe with a pair of hedge clippers causing it to clonk down the stairs, and crash land on top of the burglars. ''Ugh!'' they groaned in pain. When the burglars could stand up again, they made a pile of crates and boxes as Bratt had done last time. ''Come on El Macho'' he urged. ''Bratt are you sure this is safe?'' asked El Macho. ''Yeah I've worked all the kinks out'' replied Bratt, ''Solid as a rock''.

Up on the third floor, Margo pushed a huge tool chest of drawers on wheels to the top of a small set of stairs leading back down to the second floor. She went down to the door at the bottom of the small set of stairs and tied a piece of rope to the loose door knob. ''You guys give up?'' she shouted down to the burglars, ''Have you had enough pain?''.

"NEVER!" Bratt yelled. He and El Macho quickly made their way up to second floor and Margo pulled the door shut pulling the rope to the loose door knob behind back up the third floor and attached it to the tool chest. The two burglars dashed up the staircase between the first and second floors taking care to avoid falling through the huge hole and back into the basement one again.

''You better say every prayer you ever heard!'' El Macho shouted up to Margo. ''I hope your parents got you a gravestone for Christmas!'' added Bratt. When they got to the top, once again, they couldn't find Margo. "Hey!" El Macho exclaimed. "Where'd she go?". ''I'm up here and I'm really scared'' Margo called from above.

The two burglars noticed the small closed door that led up to the third floor and ran over to it. El Macho pulled hard at the doorknob and it came off in his hand pulling the piece of rope behind it and the rope pulled the tool chest on wheels down the small set of stairs with it. Margo watched it crash down towards the door from over the banister. From behind the closed door, Bratt and El Macho heard the sound of clattering getting louder and louder. It sounded like something was coming their way!

"What's that noise?" El Macho mused. He and Bratt listened with their ears pressed up against the door. Before the two burglars knew it, they found themselves being pushed along by the door and straight into the section of wall not fall behind. The tool chest had reached the bottom, broken the door of its hinges and crushed the burglars squashing their noses out of shape! SPLAT! They yelled and pushed the door away to free themselves.

''That was the sound of a tool chest falling down the stairs'' said Bratt in a funny voice. ''Oh!'' groaned El Macho as he and Bratt cracked their noses back into shape. Up on the third floor, Margo had seen everything. ''Yes!'' she cheered and she ran off outside onto the roof of the townhouse. She threw a rope over the edge to let herself safely down to the bottom.

Margo made sure the rope was tightly secure, then slowly she made her way down to the ground of the street below right back where she'd started.

Bratt and El Macho ran up to the third floor. ''Over there!'' shouted Bratt, pointing. ''Even if I get that chair. I'm killing that girl!'' said El Macho. Margo made it to the bottom just as the two burglars arrived on the rooftop. ''Surrender daughter of Gru!'' shouted El Macho. ''She vanished'' said Bratt. ''I'm down here, you big horse's ass!'' shouted Margo from the ground below.

The two burglars pecked over the edge of the roof. ''Whoa!'' gasped Bratt when he saw how far it was to fall. ''Nice night for a neck injury!'' taunted Margo. ''Suck brick Lucy's girl!'' snarled Bratt and threw a brick down at Margo for doing it to him first, but she ducked and missed. ''Come on Bratt'' said El Macho and started to climb down the rope. But Bratt was unsure.

''I don't know'' he trembled. ''I said, Come on!'' hissed El Macho, ''Come on, you big sissy''. Bratt whimpered as he slowly followed El Macho. Then they noticed a strange smell. ''El Macho'' said Bratt, ''Are you wearing aftershave?''. ''That's not aftershave. The rope is soaked in it'' replied El Macho. ''Why would anyone soak a rope in kerosene?'' asked Bratt.
