Part 14
Carla walked through the halls of Central City General Hospital just after nine in the morning. The flight from Starling had taken a little over an hour. Robert had gone to the hotel to check them in. Thea had gone with Oliver to take Amanda to her mother. Carla walked up to the nurse's station on the floor she had been directed to.
"Excuse me I am Dr. Carla Tannhouser. I want to know where my daughter is. Caitlin Snow." Said Carla
"Room 421. Second door on your left. She has not regain conscious yet." Said the nurse
Carla nodded and headed to the room. In the waiting room across the hall from Caitlin's room she saw a group of people. She though the young man with long hair looked familiar from pictures that Caitlin had shown her but couldn't be sure. She walked into Caitlin's room and looked at her daughter. The first thing she noticed that her daughter was pale. Much paler than she normally was. Carla looked at the monitors that Caitlin was hooked up to. Heart rate was good. Oxygen was great. She would need to see the rest of Caitlin's tests to figure out what is wrong with her daughter.
"Dr. Tannhouser?"
Carla turned to see a young woman with reddish hair standing in the doorway.
"Yes. May I help you?" asked Carla
"I'm Alex Danvers. I work in the same lab with Caitlin. We are friends. I was hoping you could tell me how she is doing. The group in the waiting are all friends of both Caitlin and Barry."
"From what I can see her vitals are really good. I just don't understand how she wasn't killed by the liquid nitrogen."
"When the particle accelerator exploded a wave of dark matter was released. The best theory Dr. Wells can come up with is that it caused a mutation in Caitlin's DNA making her immune to the liquid nitrogen as it hit her. Though my sister Kara did over hear a couple nurses talking that there seems to be ice crystals in Caitlin's cells. But if that is true shouldn't she be dead?"
"Normally yes."
"You should know Dr. Wells wants to have both Caitlin and Barry moved to Star Labs for us to treat there."
"That man is not going to come anywhere near my daughter. I want to talk to Mr. Allen's medical guardian. I want to have my own people take care of them. Of course I will give access to their friends to visit."
"I can introduce you to Detective West. He was Barry's foster father."
"Thank you Ms. Danvers."
"Actually it's Dr. Danvers. I have the same degrees as your daughter. I am just not the genius she is. So that is how I found myself working as the junior bioengineer to someone the same age as myself."
"Sometimes I wish that Caitlin had been a little more out going as a child. Maybe she wouldn't have spent so much time studying and had more friends."
"My sister was adopted and when she came to my family she had a hard time fitting in. We're from Midvale. Kids were pretty mean to her because she had been sheltered before she came to us."
"Danvers, your parents wouldn't happen Eliza and Jeremiah Danvers would they?"
"Yeah they are. I was in school with your mother. If you are even half as brilliant as her then I hope that will consider taking me up on my offer. I want you to be on the team treating my daughter and hopefully Mr. Allen. Caitlin told me a lot about you. That you seemed scared of her at first. My daughter may seem icy at first but once you become her friend you won't find anyone more loyal."
"Unless you betray her. Then you better run because she will freeze you out and if she finds evidence you did something to hurt another she will make your life hell on earth."
"You really do know my daughter."
"I do. We actually go to the same gym. We have become sparing partners. It is always good to know self defense."
"That is true. Do you know what happened to Ronnie Raymond?"
"He died. He died trying to shut the particle accelerator down before it exploded. He had to do it manually."
"He was in the accelerator ring when it blew. So he was most likely vaporized."
"Yeah. He made Cisco lock him in. He was not going to risk the lives of not only everyone in the city. But his friends and family."
"That is the Ronnie I know."
Alex just nodded before leaving Carla to spend time with her daughter.
Oliver knocked on Dinah Lance's apartment door.
"Hi Mrs. Lance."
"Oliver come on in. Have you heard anything about your sister?"
"No. Carla went to the hospital to see if she can find out anything." Said Oliver
"How are you Thea?"
"I just wish I knew if Caitlin was going to be ok." Said Thea
"Mrs. Lance how is Laurel?" asked Oliver
"She is going to be fine. No concussion or anything. Come on in. How are you Amanda?" asked Dinah
"Daddy said Auntie Cait is hurt." Said Amanda
"Honey, your Aunt Cait is going to be ok. She is one of the strongest people after your mom and dad." Said Dinah
"Grandma is right. Aunt Cait is going to be just fine." Said Laurel
"Hey you really ok?" asked Oliver
"Yes. I am fine. Mom will you take Mandy into the other room?" said Laurel
Dinah nodded and led her granddaughter away.
"Did you see Caitlin?" asked Thea
"Yeah. She was really pale and her lips were blue. It also looked like part of her hair turned white. The nurses I over heard said her skin was cold to the touch. But her heart rate was normal and breathing was fine." Said Laurel
"Hopefully Carla can figure out what happened to her." Said Oliver
"I hope she can." Said Laurel
"Come on let's head over to the hospital to see if we can find anything out." Said Oliver
Laurel went to tell her mom that they were leaving and to remind her daughter to be good. Then the three of them headed to the hospital.
