An ahh I don't have time for an an bout to get on my flight back home lol. Hope you enjoy.
Tears were streaming out of her eyes uncontrollably. She coughed, desperately trying to dispel the smoke from her lungs. This action only caused her to inhale more, her lungs stinging with every intake of breath. But, she wouldn't stop, she couldn't. She had to make sure everyone was safe, this was her fault. She hadn't planned for it to go like this. She hadn't meant it too. She simply wanted him to show his firebending. She didn't want him to go ballistic. But, he had. And now the whole inn was on fire.
The floor under her feet began to shake, and she knew she didn't have much time before the building gave way. She could feel a tremor run though the whole building, causing her muscle to stiffen as she tried her hardest to keep upright. But, she kept going.
The heat was unrelenting, washing over her in unwelcome waves. Her hair was soaked with sweat, her clothes plastered to her skin. Everytime to breathed it felt as if she was inhaling acid. But, she kept going.
The flames licked at her feet, sending heat through her body. Azula waved her arms, trying her hardest to put the flames out. But, no matter how hard she tried to subdue them, they would spring back up. They were eating away at the wood, gaining strength as they did so. This was the true destructive power of fire. It was unrelenting, merciless. Just as Azula had been. But lately, she had been out of touch with that part of herself. She felt a rift growing between her and her element. She was changing, and her connection to her inner flame was suffering. But, now it didn't matter. All that mattered was she reached the screams of the women. So, she kept going.
The screams were closer, seeming to come from the room infront of her. She studied the door, searching for a way in. the door was made of a strange substance, and somehow hadnt yet burned down. Which should have been a good thing, but it wasn't. Infact, it was bad. There was no fire in the room, but she knew something had to be happening. Because the screams had seeded. With reviewed urgency Azula approached the door, inspecting int carefully. With a tentative hand, she reached for the handle.
As soon as her palm made contact with it she heard a sizzle. Her hand was warm, uncomfortably so, but it didn't hurt. She looked down at it to see a red burn stretching across her palm. So that was the sizzling sound. For some strange reason she had become numb to the pain of her element. Sometimes it was a nuisance, but right now it would be beneficial. She placed her hand back on the handle and turned it, thrusting the door open. As soon as she did so her vision became obscured by the sheer amount of smoke in the room.
Shit, she thought, coughing as she tried to make her way through the fog. But, it was too much. It was unbearable. It was as if an invisible force was crushing in on her. She was so tired. She just wanted to lay down, maybe rest her head. Then, she could do whatever it was she had been doing. What was it she had been doing? Azula didn't care. All she cared about was the fatigue that overtook her.
She dropped to the floor, closing her eyes as her head made contact with the ground. She felt the ground shutter but it didn't register with her. She knew the flames were closing in on the room, blocking the door. But, what did it matter anyway. Her thoughts began to fade as did her consciousness.
However, right as she was going to disappear into the rest, she heard a voice. It was a voice she recognized, but not one of the past avatars. And, it couldn't be her mothers. It was male. But, she knew the voice.
Look at you now girl, weaker than your brother ever was. Father? Was her father here, was he going to save her? But, as she heard his voice, she wasn't filled with the feeling she should be. Instead, she was filled with a feeling of terror. No, she had to get away.
She coughed, pushing her hands against the shuttering floor. She couldn't tell if it was the house itself or the smoke, but the floor kept shaking under her feet. But, it wouldn't matter. Gathering her will she held her arms in front of her. She began moving them, going through the familiar steps of the airbending form. The air around her began to bend to her will, collecting the smoke into a vortex. Once she was sure it was enough, she released it, sending it through the window and into the outside.
As the window cracked the room was suddenly filled with the fresh night air. She breathed, relishing the crispness of it. But, she didn't have time to fully appreciate it. The building shuttered again, and she knew she must leave. Quickly, Azula walked over to the floor were an unconscious girl lay.
Azula could feel her heart beating, pumping blood through her veins. But, it felt weak. She had been trapped in the smoke for too long. Azula wasn't about to give up. She placed her hand on the girl's chest, feeling the fluids inside her body. She felt for the girl's heart, searching until she found it. Once she did, she realized just how weak her heartbeat was. Less than 20 times a minute, from what she calculated. Azula closed her eyes, focusing on the rythmic thumping of the girl's heart. She listened to her body, feeling how everything moved inside of her. It felt like a machine that had been damaged and was faulty. But, azula could fix it. She began forcing the girl's heart to begin beating faster again, forcing her body to work. She had essentially oiled the machine, and now it was doing the work on it's own.
Satisfied, Azula picked up the girl and placed it over her shoulder. She was tired, but the weight doesn't matter right now. All that mattered was getting out of here before the building collapsed. Azula knew that since fire was seeping through the door, she would have to jump from the window. She was in the second story, and it would be a long fall. But, she had no choice.
She ran over to the already shattered window and climbed over the cill. Looking down, she saw people gathered below, watching as the building was falling apart. She saw people who must have been injured due to the fire, and her heart got stuck in her throat. She reminded herself to focus, and after taking a deep breath, dropped herself and the girl over the edge. The fall was quick, and Azula knew she didn't have the strength to decrease the impact. So, she tried turning herself, using her body to take as much impact from the girl as possible. And, it was a lot.
As soon as Azula hit the ground, the wind was instantly knocked from her. Worse than that, she felt something inside her shatter. She couldn't move, and instead laid there as people crowded around her. She knew something was wrong and felt a sharp pain in her ribcage. But, she didn't have time to asses the damage
Mai and Tylee arrived on the scene, taking the unconscious girl from Azula's arms. Tylee reached down with her hand to help her friend up, but Azula shook her head. Forcing her body to cooperate, Azula pushed herself into a sitting position, pushing through the pain that threatened to perilize her. As soon as she was upright, Azula found herself choking on blood.
Everything that happened after that after that was a blur. She heard Tylees voice, but didn't know what was being said. She felt herself being pulled, carried onto something. But, she didn't comprehend what. She heard yelling, various different voices filling her senses. It became overwhelming. So, Azula allowed darkness to be her escape.
Katara scrunched her eyebrows together in concentration. She felt the chi flowing through the body of the girl. She could feel everything. Every broken bone, every sprained muscle, every damaged origan. It was overwhelming. She had never attempted to heal someone with this many different injuries. It was difficult to assess the damage when so much was wrong. At least five of her ribs were broken, and her lung had been pierced by one. But, it didn't stop there. She had severe damage to her spinal cord, and all of her fluids were wrong. Katara opened her eyes to stare down at her patient.
Her long raven hair was loose, flowing with the movement of the water. Her gold eyes shone with the light of a thousand suns, but that light was fading. Her skin had a darker tint to it, but she was pale, to pale. The water that used to be clear was now red with her blood. Katara sighed and shook her head. Closing her eyes, she focused herself on the external wounds. The water started glowing as Katara began to heal the external wounds. It was the most she could do, for the girl and her family. Though she wasn't able to save the girl, that didn't mean they
Once done, katara began making her way to the door that led from the infirmary. She saw the nurses look at her and sigh. They had told her it was a loss cause but Katara had tried anyway. Looks like they were right. She placed her hand on the cool surface of the door and inhaled a deep breath, metally preparing herself. Katara pushed the door open, and entered into the lobby.
The instant she walked through the door, the brown hair girl jumped up. She rushed to Katara, her grey eyes filled with worry. Though the "emotionless girl," as katara thought of her, did not stand up, her eyes shot lasers into katara. This was the hardest part. Not the tiring hours spent by the patient's side. Not the pain she felt as she overexerted herself yet again. Not the feeling of failure when she couldn't succeed. But, the look on the faces of their family and friends when she told them she couldn't succeed.
But, most of all she hated the people who did this. The fire nation. Someone said they had spotted a man fleeing the scene. And, from the description given, Katara had a pretty good idea of who it was. Admiral Zhao. Zhao the conquering. Or whatever he wanted to go by. He was the man responsible for her friend, Yue's death. And, now he did this. From all eye witness accounts, if it wasn't for this woman they would be dead. She hated him, and when Katara found him, he would pay. She wasn't the girl he had fought in the north. She had changed, because that's what war did. It created warriors.
"I'm sorry," a lump began forming in her throat. "I did my best, but it wasn't enough. Azula suffered severe injuries from her fall, and they will take her life in less than a day."
All of her senses were overwhelmed by pain. Excruciating white plain was all she could see. It filled her lungs, though she drew not a breath. Though she didn't have a body, she could feel it. It was coming from everywhere, invading her very existence. It was so intense, it threatened to consume her being. She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out. Instead, the white hot pain flowed in through her lips. It flowed through her like blood. There was no escaping it, she was the pain.
She felt trapped in eternity, no end in sight. But, the gods decided to take mercy on her. It started out a small feeling. Or more, the lack of feeling. It was a drop in the ocean, and like a drop it began to take form. The water rippled with the new sensation. The sensation of nothing. And, as opposed to the pain, Azula yearned for this sensation. She reached with her spirit towards it, pulling it closer to her. It washed over her like a fog. As it thickened, the pain disappeared. She knew the pain was still there, but the fog blocked it out. It trapped her in the safeness it's grip, pulling her closer and closer to the tangible nothingness. She was so close, the darkness so close to consuming her pain, when she was ripped from the fog.
An invisible force grasped at her soul, pulling her from the presipus of death. And, just like that, the pain returned. Only this time it felt different. Instead of an all consuming pain, she could pinpoint exactly where this was coming from. She could feel every bruise and burn on her abused body. She closed her eyes tightly, trying to force her way back into the darkness.
Don't give up child, it is not yet your time. A disembodied voice of Kyoshi spoke. The world needs you. Azula shook her head, it was a lie. She should never have been the avatar. It was simply a twist of fate. The avatar was supposed to be strong, and she was weak. The avatar was supposed to be kind, and she was spiteful. The avatar was supposed to be a good person, but Azula was not. It would be better to simply give in, allow the cycle to pass her up. And so, she allowed herself to slip further into the darkness. But, the Avatars would not allow it.
She was so close, so very close to freedom, when it was ripped from under her grasp. She was sent tumbling away from the darkness, and the pain returned. Only this time it was different. It wasn't as intense or bad, all of it external. She had burns, bruises and cuts, but no broken bones.
Azula lied in a bathtub. The hot water only further aggravated the cuts on her skin. They rain up her arms and back. And, her inner thighs were laced with burns. How that had happened she did not want to recall. But, when had she ever gotten what she wanted. Images flashed through her mind, things she didn't wish to see. Things that were lies, they had to be. She closed her eyes and bit her lip, sending the memories away. But, the pain remained, and so did the feeling of abandonment.
Azula heard footsteps approaching, and tried to get up. But, her body was sore. Oh so sore. All she managed to do was open her eyes, and stare into the ones looking down at her. A set of grey eyes stared down at her through long, thick lashes. Her brows were knit together and an expression of worry was painted across her face. But, that was not all. Her eyes shone with something, something Azula had never seen in those grey orbs. Her eyes shone with anger, pure anger.
"Please Azula, don't leave me." The girl begged as she brushed her fingertips along Azula's cheek. Staring into the eyes of Tylee, Azula didn't want to leave. She didn't want to leave her friend.
Tears started flowing from her golden eyes. "I don't want to," she croaked through her sore throat. "I don't want to go Tylee."
"Then don't," spoke a voice that wasn't her friend. Azula looked up to see the green eyes of avatar Kyoshi staring down into hers.
"But how?" Azula managed before the world shifted again.
You have a rare ability Azula, the voice of kyoshi spoke in her mind. Azula could once again feel the pain, and it was unbearable. But, this time she didn't run to the blackness. No, she must stay.
You have the ability to fix that which is broken inside you. You must fix your body as you seek to fix the world. By starting within yourself..
And somehow, Azula understood the meaning behind the avatars worlds. She collected her energy, focusing it inside her body. She could feel where everything was. Every broken bone. Every damaged organ. She could feel everything that was out of place, and she understood how to fix it. Slowly and carefully, she began replacing everything where it belonged.
She moved her dislocated shoulder back into her socket. She mended broken bones, stitched her punctured lungs. It was difficult to say the least, but Azula managed to place everything back where it belonged.
The pain was gone, replaced by a minor ache and soreness. It felt as if she had hiked ten miles up the steepest mountain in the world. But, Azula wouldn't let that stop her. She needed to get up, to make sure Mai and Tylee were safe. Until she was sure of that, she wouldn't be able to rest.
Azula allowed herself to find the white light she had used once before. She felt the fire consume her, and as soon as she opened her eyes, it was released.
