Alexa's Training Day Part 4: The Northern Granite Cliffside

"What's going on Alex?" Ash said, picking up his Pokegear, chatting with his friend on the phone. "You were supposed to meet us here 20 minutes ago so we could show Alexa some new moves." Alexa kneeled on the ground tightening the laces to her hiking boots. After her adventures with Ash that had taken place this morning, she changed into a pair of cargo shorts, a white tank top and wore her red bandana around her head the same way May wore hers. On her back was a brown backpack, filled with empty Pokeballs and poffins which Alexa had made thanks to the cookbook Dawn had gifted her for her birthday.

"I'm sorry Ash, but Toxtricity, Rillaboom and I seemed to have lost our way," Alex said. "I also left the rest of the team back there so I'm afraid I can't fly back."

"Alexa and I can come and find you," Ash said. "Which direction did you head in?"

"We went down the North Eastern Trail, and then took a slight right past the Northern Granite Cliffside," Alex told Ash.

"You're by the Northern Granite Cliffside?! That's Ursaring Territory!" Ash said.

"So what you're saying is that I shouldn't have set up my curry station?" Alex said in a scared voice. On the other end of the line, there was a loud roar of several bear-like Pokemon. "Gah! Gotta go Ash!" Alex hung up on the other end.

"Change of plans sis, we've gotta go rescue Alex," Ash said, throwing his Pokegear back in his bag. "Smartest man in Galar, but has no sense of direction."

"Sounds like something you would do," Alexa said. "I've always wanted to train in the Ursaring Territory though."

Ash threw out his Talonflame while Alexa threw out her Swellow. The two trainers climbed onto the backs of their respective bird Pokemon and flew off to rescue the Champion of Galar.

After a couple of minutes of flying towards the Northern Granite Cliffside, Ash was able to spot the champion pressed up against the rock wall with his Rillaboom and Toxtricity standing in front of their trainer. About 10 yards away from the trainer was a pack of 15 Ursaring, all of which met the trainer with bared teeth, and sharp claws. Due to their ferocity and unpredictable nature, Alex was uncertain that he could take them all on with only two Pokemon.

Ash and Alexa commanded their Pokemon to fly down so they could land closer to Alex. The two trainers jumped off their bird Pokemon, as they threw out two Pokemon each.

Standing in front of the three trainers were Rillaboom and Toxtricity, Sceptile and Corphish, and Hitmonlee and Electivire. The pack of Ursarings let out a roar, which was met back with a battlecry from the Pokemon of Ash, Alex and Alexa. The Pokemon then charged at each other as a battle broke out.

Working as a team, the six Pokemon on the ground, along with Talonflame and Swellow in the air were able to fend off the oncoming Ursarings. Toxtricity used Overdrive as a way to hit many targets, while Rillaboom used Drum Beating to send many roots at the attacking Pokemon. Sceptile and Corphish hung back, taking out any Pokemon that got close to the trainers, while Electivire and Hitmonlee worked together to take out any Ursarings by having Hitmonlee kick them towards Electivire, who would catch them, and paralyze them with its probes.

One Ursaring, however, managed to break through the line and charged Alexa. Alexa screamed seeing the angry Bear Pokemon charging towards her. The Pokemon towered above her and lifted her up by her backpack.

The trainer managed to get her arms out of the straps, and landed on the ground in front of the Ursaring. The Pokemon sniffed the brown backpack and tossed it up in the air, slashing it with its claws. The contents of the bag fell onto the ground; several empty Pokeballs and a container holding poffins, which spilled onto the ground. The Ursaring picked up and sniffed one poffin, then placed it in its mouth.

"Hey!" Alexa shouted. "Those are for my Riolu!"

The Ursaring snarled at her, but when it looked up it was hit by a blue ball made of Aura. Standing behind the group of Ursaring was Ash's Lucario and Alexa's Riolu (who had fired the Aura Sphere), who had returned from training. Lucario formed a bone staff in its hands and charged at the remaining Ursaring, while Riolu ran in between its trainer and the lone Ursaring.

"Thanks for helping me Riolu!" Alexa said to her Pokemon. "Now let's take out this Ursaring."

The small Aura Pokemon dashed across the field at the much larger opponent. It jumped, kicking the large Ursaring across the face with a Rolling Kick, which it had learned from its mentor, Hitmonlee. Riolu then landed on the ground, as Ursaring stumbled backwards. The Bear Pokemon then lunged forwards, with its claws glowing white. Riolu, however, countered its foe by forming a bone staff in its hands, and smacking the Ursaring in the claws, followed by a jab to the stomach. This bone staff technique was one that Riolu had picked up from its recent training session with Lucario.

Ursaring's frustration grew more at the tiny dog-like Pokemon. The Ursaring swung at Riolu with a Hammer Arm attack, but Riolu slid in between the Pokemon's legs, dodging the attack. When it came out the other side, it swept Ursaring's legs out from under it with a Low Sweep. The Ursaring got back onto its feet and rushed Riolu once more. Riolu was not afraid of the bigger opponent, as it jumped in the air, and came down on the top of Ursaring's head with its bone staff. The Bear Pokemon became very dizzy from this attack, swaying side to side, and finally landed on its back with a large thud. The Pokemon, however, was enveloped in a red light, as it had landed on top of one of Alexa's empty Pokeballs which were scattered across the ground. The ball shook once, then twice, then a third time, followed by nothing. Alexa and Riolu both stood with shocked expressions on their faces, at the new Pokemon she had accidentally caught. Alexa then pulled out her Pokedex so she could fill in the data on Ursaring without changing her facial expression.

"Sis, you alright?" Ash said running up to Alexa. "I turned away for one second, and when I looked back you and Riolu were fighting an Ursaring.

"We're fine," Alexa said, picking the Pokeball off the ground and turning to her brother. "I think these guys are just hungry."

"Well Alex and I just took care of the rest of them," Ash said, motioning to the pile of unconscious Ursarings. Alex was tending to all of the trainer's Pokemon who had fought hard pushing back a powerful species of Pokemon.

"Check this out though!" Alexa said, throwing the Pokeball in the air. Out popped Alexa's new Ursaring, who let out a large roar, which startled Ash, causing him to fall to the ground on his rear end. "I accidentally caught this guy when Riolu and I were battling it." Alexa stood on her tiptoes, and scratched behind the ear of her newest Pokemon, who let out a low growl, enjoying the attention. "Aww, you're just a big sweetie, aren't you?" Alexa picked a stray Poffin off the ground and tossed it in the air. The Bear Pokemon caught the treat in its mouth, and grinned at its new trainer.

"Riolu!" Alexa's partner barked at its trainer.

"There's plenty to go around, Riolu," Alexa said, rubbing the head of her Pokemon. "I can make you some more when we get back to May's."

The two trainers turned towards the Champion of Galar, who had set up his curry station. "Alex!" Ash shouted. "Haven't you learned your lesson!"

"I can't help it, Ash!" Alex said. His accent had a twinge of worry in it. "I feel bad for having you guys knock them all out for me, so I'm going to cook them enough Gigantamix curry so they don't have to be hungry when they wake up."

"That's sweet of you," Alexa said. "Think you can cook some up for my team while you're at it?"

"I'm sure there will be enough for everybody," Alex said, stirring the contents of the large cooking pot.

When the 14 Ursaring had awoken from their slumber they were met with several giant platters of food. The Pokemon lumbered up to Alex, one at a time, who gave them a large plate of Gigantamix curry, and sat underneath the cliffside with all three trainers. Now that their bellies were full, they had no aggression towards the trainers they had battled against moments ago. Once the pack of Ursarings were satisfied, they waved goodbye to their former companion, who stood next to Alexa, and returned into the forest.

"See," Alexa said to the two older trainers. "They were just hungry."

'Ring,' Said her newest Pokemon. Alexa pulled out another Poffin and tossed it into the air, which the Bear Pokemon caught in its mouth. Alex and Ash both chuckled at the two. The three trainers returned all of their Pokemon, and began their hike up the Northern Trail back to their home on Mount Silver.
