Chapter 15 Wish Fulfillment

Rumble rumble.

Star flew through the grumbling void. There was not a single soul in the surrounding area. The only company Star actually had were her string and the random chunks of Earth floating around. Speaking of which, Star spotted a particular chunk of ground. This one had a little tree growing out of a patch of dirt. With her shoulders dropped and her head aimed downward, Star landed and sat underneath the tree. She let out a sigh.

This was officially rock bottom.

"Why did I do this?" she asked out loud. None of this would have happened if she just left well enough alone. But now, it was too late. The Koopalings were gone. The world that they inhabited was in glitchy ruins. And it was all her fault.

Star sniffled back a sob. She truly was a selfish being. Even at home, she was always thinking about herself. She was so wrapped up in her own little world. It was no wonder why she had wanted everyone to bow down to her when she arrived in the Koopa Kingdom. She had pranced around like she was the queen of the world. But now...her kingdom was gone. Everything that she had done was gone. She wouldn't be surprised if, soon, the void would swallow her up too.

"Ahem!"

Star looked up upon hearing someone clear their throat. She was quite surprised to see a fuzzy white llama staring at her.

"Um...did you just talk to me?" she asked.

"Yes, I just talked to you!" the llama said. "Don't tell me you forgot about me!"

Suddenly, like the weight of a destroyed world, it all came crashing back down on Star.

"Oh, right. You're the guy who works at Benny's."

"Ding ding ding!" said the llama. "Look at that, you remembered what you did to me!" He scoffed. "That's one very small good point you earned amidst the plethora of bad ones."

Star couldn't even muster the strength to glare at this character. She just sighed, looked away, and snapped her fingers. The llama was surrounded by a golden light. When it cleared, he was a koopa once again. He let out a delighted little grunt.

"I'm back to normal! Thanks so much!"

"You're welcome," Star said with a nod. Her tone was sullen, accurately reflecting the pain that was inside her. She got up and started to walk away. All she really wanted to do at this point was be left alone.

"Hey!" the koopa said as Star started to rise into the air. "What in the world is happening?"

Star turned back to the koopa in confusion.

"What do you mean? Are you talking about how the world is crumbling?"

"Uh, duh! Of course I am; that's kind of a big deal!"

Star hesitated. She reluctantly floated back down to the ground.

"It's a long story." She shook her head, letting out a tiny whimper in the process. "It was all my fault. I took things from one extreme to the next, and...well, you can probably figure out what happened."

The koopa raised an eyebrow.

"Wait, are you serious?" When Star nodded, the koopa's eyes grew as wide as the universe. "You're telling me that you single handedly brought the destruction of life as we know it?"

Star let out a sigh. A glistening tear started to sliver down her cheek.

"Pretty much." To her surprise, the koopa laughed.

"Wow. And I thought I had bad days." He looked at her with a very dark cynicism. "Well, are you going to fix it?"

"Fix it?"

"Yeah! All of this was your fault! It's only natural that you would be the one responsible for putting things back in their place."

Star looked out into the starry void. The chunks of the ground that were floating around were already starting to glitch. She sighed.

"I don't know how I would be able to fix..." Suddenly, Star spotted something. It was a little hard to make out, since it was so far away, but she swore that it was a flash of blue and purple. She squinted into the distance and saw that it was the Transporter, floating on a patch of ground. The wheels in Star's head started to turn.

"Oh my goodness," she said. It was like a light bulb had been set off in her head. "I have to get to the Transporter." She put on a beaming smile and started to fly. "Thanks so much, Brian!"

"That's not my name!" the koopa called out.

"Whatever!" The smile did not waver from Star's face. She just continued to fly.

I can do this, I can do this, I can do this.

The Transporter was just up ahead. It was growing closer and closer, its blue and purple surface glimmering among the stars. She sped up. If she could get to it, she could get home and hopefully fix this whole mess.

Unfortunately, Star did not see the rock that was flying straight towards her. She just barreled through the void of space like a bullet shot out of a machine gun. She didn't even realize that a rock had hit her in the face; all that she felt was a searing, sharp pain. Her bashed in skull felt like it was going to split open like a coconut. She couldn't even bring herself to fly; she just started to fall through the void.

No, Star thought to herself. I have to keep going. I can't stop now. I...can't...everything's...going...dark...

Star struggled to keep her eyes open. It felt like the starry void was closing in around her. The blackness was inky, evil. She had to keep going, but...she couldn't. It seemed like this was the end.

Perhaps this was what she deserved.
