"When things are unfamiliar you may not act like yourself" - Alaska
They were relieved when the noises they heard were laughter. It began to grow closer and Mila was coming down the stairs laughing with Peter, they walked towards the gardens and continued walking. Susan, Lucy and Fleurine all went towards the window to watch them and Edmund opened it so they could here. They could barely here the conversation that was taking place.
"Yes it's very different from Telmar" Mila said "but it's not a bad different"
"I'm glad you feel comfortable then" Peter said
"I do very much so, everyone here is wonderful. However I do not look forward to my father's disappointment with me about Edmund" she said
"Well I'm sure he'll understand. Besides, a women like you will have no difficulty finding a worthy suitor."
"That's very kind of you Peter. So, what about you?"
"What do you mean?" he asked
"Is there a special lady in your life?" she asked hoping to hint something.
Peter shook his head "No, but there is a lady I have my eye on"
"Is that so?' she teased.
"It is" he said
After Peter said that they were too far away from the group and nothing else could be heard. Susan started giggling a little at the sight and Lucy watched Peter and Mila slowly shift closer to each other as they walked, and then notice they were close and shift away. She thought they looked a little like drunk dwarves trying to dance.
"Good for Pete" Edmund said "They'll be great together, I can't wait for the wedding" he said jokingly
"Ed please, he's hiding behind his diplomacy." Lucy said
"What do you mean?" Fleurine asked
"Well Peter is by no means good at speaking with women but since she's a princess he knows how to speak to her." Susan said.
"Oh, well what happens when professionalism disappears between them?" Fleurine asked
"We get to watch Peter squirm a little" Lucy said "But not for too long, we'll have to help eventually"
Fleurine nodded her head and went back to her book, Edmund sat back down next to her and worked in his ledger. Susan walked away from the window and left to grab an apple and Lucy watched as birds flew by. After a while Edmund left to his office and Lucy continued drawing and Susan finished her snack and her book. Time seemed to slow down, it felt like they had been in that room for days and it was only an hour. Lost in her head Fleurine headed to her room, clearly upset.
After Lucy finished her drawing she took it from her book and headed to Fleurine's room to check on her. When she got there she could here the muffled sound of crying. Not wanting to press she slid the drawing underneath the door and left to get lunch. It took some time for Fleurine to notice the piece of paper by the door, she picked it up and saw it was a drawing of a lion.
"This must be Aslan" she thought to herself.
She set the drawing down on the nightstand, and thought about going home. She sighed, and wondered about where her parents may be. She did this often, she missed them quite a bit but she wasn't as sad about as she used to be. She brushed her hair while she looked at the drawing.
"Aslan" she said "I know, we've never met, and I don't know if you can hear me but... I was wondering if you could help me out"
She shook her head and sighed, but then continued. Outside her door Edmund heard her talking and carefully put his ear up to figure out who she was talking to.
"I- I think maybe I should leave. I don't want to worry Edmund all the time, and I'm not helping anyone here. I just walk around the castle all day. The Kings and Queens do so much and I do nothing, I don't think I could help them in any way."
Edmund started to turn the door handle so he could reassure her but he stopped, and left. He shouldn't be eavesdropping on whoever she may be talking to, if she wanted to tell him something she would. This would have to be talked about when she wanted to. He walked outside and thought about what she said.
The words I think I should leave cycled around his head, he didn't want her to go.
"She should be in a place where no one can harm her" he thought to himself. "I need to tell her how I feel, I need to confirm that she's welcome. And I need to give her something to do so she can feel like she's helping people"
He went to his office and looked at the charity profiles. He had been struggling with figuring out a way to help the charities flourish and grow, but maybe Fleurine might know how to do that. Helping people would be good for her, it would help her feel like she meant something during a time where she felt like nothing.
