DECEMBER 17 MONDAY
Christmas was broken and nobody was sure what it meant. What was going to become of the Christmas holiday and the Christmas dinner? Hogwarts felt tragedy struck until somebody pointed out that Happy Xmas (War Is Over) no longer existed.
Sirius arrived at the drama practice chamber at seven o'clock at night. To his surprise there was nobody else there. The entire set had been dismounted. Drew sat alone in a corner, smoking and reading MAD magasine.
"Where is everybody?" Sirius asked.
"The show's off, innit?"
"Why?"
"Because Christmas was destroyed. It has ceased to be."
"It has rung down the choir invisible."
"Yes, nerd. The show's off."
"But why? We can do the show even if there is no Christmas can't we?"
"You must be all beauty and no brains. There is no Christmas. Christmas was a very central theme in our show. The Grinch was born on Christmas day. His girlfriend ran off with his uncle on Christmas day. He had his appendix removed on Christmas day. But there is no Christmas anymore. No Christmas, no Grinch. No Grinch, no show."
"So just make a few changes to the script, then. What if, instead of Christmas, the Grinch really hates Fridays? His house burned down on a Friday. His lemming got runover on a Friday. He fell off his bicycle on a Friday. So therefore he wants to steal Friday!"
Drew stared at him. His face split into a smile.
"That... is brilliant! Here! Take this bell! Tell everybody we're doing the show!"
