Rewind and Save Me
During the fight with Sensui, Koenma and Mitarai were in the cave still with Yusuke who was still lying dead on the cold ground. Koenma was resting his ear on Yusuke's chest letting out a soft sigh.
"I don't get it..." Koenma said removing his head away from his chest.
"He's too young to be dead," Mitarai said.
"No, what I mean is that even though his heart's stopped, his ghost has yet to rise out of him," Koenma said.
"And that's not...normal?" Asked Mitarai.
"It usually emerges immediately, and the last time Yusuke died, his ghost popped right out of him," Koenma explained.
"Wait! If he's come back before maybe he's not really dead."
"No, trust me, kid. He's dead as a doornail. His soul is just MIA."
Suddenly, bright light emerges into the cave as it stopped right in front of the tunnel that was opened to connect with the demon world. That's when there were troops that had appeared standing in the linemen and females that were with their leader.
"Who are these people? Are they on our side?" Mirai inquired.
"They're called the Spirit World Special Defense Force. They are the best of the best, and Spirit World last line of defense." Koenma explained to Mitarai as he narrowed his eyes directly towards the captain who was leading the troops. "My father only calls upon them in the most desperate of situations, and I guess this hole qualifies. He depends on them, unequivocally, to get the job done." Koenma inhaled saying, "Which means, my father has given up faith in my ability to do so."
The captain faces towards the two soldiers, "I need three of you to start on sealing up this hole right now. Saitou, Sourai, Oohou! How long will that take you."
"Sir, with the three of us working together, it should take at least ten days, sir," Sourai responded.
"You've got a week, understood?" The captain sharply said.
"Yes, sir!"
"That's what I like to hear. Now, get on with it!" He commanded.
While the three soldiers were going to be working on closing the hole, the captain commanded the other soldiers to go inside and seal in the gateway that has been unlocked. The captain's name was Ootake the leader of the squad as he approached with two army men side by side to approach Koenma and Mitarai near Yusuke's corpse.
"Koenma, sir. Are you all right?" Ootake asked.
"Well, I did bite my tongue..." Koenma says in sarcasm.
Ootake lets out a small grunt ordering," Return to Spirit World at once, where you can recuperate."
Koenma knitted his eyebrows together glaring at the captain responding, "I'm not going anywhere. This is my mess, and I'm gonna clean it up."
"Forgive me, your highness, but I'm afraid that I must insist, for king Yama has declared this a state of martial law," Ootake said narrowing his gaze at the prince, "Meaning, for now, my jurisdiction supersedes yours. I'm sorry about this, sir."
"I know what martial law is, Captain, I'm no idiot." Koenma backtalks at the captain with a small frown formed on his lips. "But you are if you think for a second I'm gonna back off without a fight."
As Captain Ootake heard the prince declining his orders he scrunches up his face saying, "If you refuse to vacate, you'll have to witness something very painful."
Koenma raises his eyebrows after hearing the captain being a little offensive, "Are you...threatening me now, Captain?"
The captain stood in silence as one of the soldiers aimed for Mitarai hitting him with their attack. Koenma demanded not to harm him.
"No one will stand in the way of our mission..." Captain Ootake said. "...To kill Urameshi."
"What?" Koenma exclaimed.
"Spirit Detective Yusuke Urameshi..." Ootake starts off to explain the bio background of his history,"...a direct descendant of the Mazoku."
"You're out of your mind!" Koenma exclaimed in disbelief to hear the shocking news. "That is a vile accusation. And to level it in front of his corpse? It's ridiculous!" Koenma ridiculed, "His mother may act like a monster, but his parents are human! I had an ogre do a background check."
"True," Ootake said. "As were his grandparents and great grandparents. But if you continue back much further..."
The prince let out a gasp and sweat runs down his forehead, "The Activism of a Mazoku."
"That's affirmative, sir...It's through that rate phenomenon that we think Urameshi inherited his demon blood. And if we're right, which by all signs we are, he's a genetic time bomb just waiting to trigger."
As much as the news shocked the others of Yusuke being a half-breed demon to inherit his ancestor's demon blood passed on to him. The troop must destroy his corpse for good, however, Koenma and Mitarai refused to let them get rid of the spirit detective.
"Captain! Look at Urameshi. He's glowing!" One of the troop members said.
Yusuke was floating in mid-air still unconscious as Captain Ootake says, "No, it's the time! That's not Spirit Energy he's emitting-it's Demon Energy! The transformation has begun!"
The captain ordered his troops to go around and aim their attacks on Yusuke, however, something was cawing and it came from above the ceiling. As they were aiming their attacks on Yusuke willing to think they've succeeded to destroy him, but they have failed. Something was protecting him from getting hurt as the smoke cleared to reveal Puu in a much bigger size.
"Man, you people sure know how to make a guy feel welcome." A familiar sarcastic tone alerted the men and a female in the room.
"We're...too late...the Mazoku is alive!" Ootake said.
"Puu! Puu!" The big bird happily chanted to see his spirit guardian was back alive as Yusuke smiled warmly at him petting the bird.
"Hey there, little buddy. I see you've been drinking your milk while I've been away." Yusuke said as his smile change to a mischievous smirk as he glanced over at the soldiers, "Ya know, even though I was dead, I could still hear some of what you guys were sayin'. So then...I'm...some kind of evil, vicious monster..." The troops had fear in their eyes being frightened by Yusuke's venomous tone.
"My teachers have been saying that for years. I just thought it was a figure of speech." Yusuke being self-assured after hearing the men talk about his family ancestors passing down their demon blood to him making it seem like he was a monster. That's not quite right. He let out a strong red aura that filled the room the almost blinded the others of his powerful demon energy that wasn't his spirit energy anymore.
"You see, Koenma, sir. how strong his Demon Energy is?" You take inquired.
"No...Not Yusuke." Koenma protested.
As the red aura died down Yusuke starts to act all terrifying that the soldiers think of him as what they expected a Mazoku demon was supposed to act like. Just as the soldiers were acting like cowards, Yusuke let out a hysterical laugh in amusement.
"Gotcha! You suckers!" He giggled.
"Anyway, I better push off to Demon World...Sensui gave me a death sentence as a gift, and I'd be a jerk if I didn't return the favor." Yusuke said in a serious tone.
"But you can't go anywhere! You have to be quarantined." Ootake said.
Yusuke growled glaring over at the captain, "You even think about stopping me, and I'll bite off your head, mustache and all!"
The captain trembled at Yusuke's warning, "I knew you couldn't hide your true character. You transformed into a demon menace."
"Look, jerk. Gimme a break, it's called a running joke. I'm the same." Yusuke forced a wide grin on his face. "Yusuke Urameshi, fearless protector of the good stuff, with a healthy kick of nastiness and general hate for authority. And nothing as trivial as a violent death or a few drops of Demon's blood mixed within with mine is gonna keep me from helping out my friends in savin' the world and kickin' the bad guy's ass!"
Koenma lets out a sigh and laughter in relief, "Hold on! I'm comin' with you!"
The captain holds back to the prince saying, "But, sir! You would be disobeying a direct order from King Yama! Besides this hostile beast-" He was cut off by Yusuke's foot that was on his face as Yusuke glared at him.
"Pass this to King Yama for me," Yusuke said as the captain falls back that his troops ran over immediately to check if he was okay.
"You really should wash your feet more often, Yusuke." Koenma joked.
Yusuke and Koenma ran over to climb on Puu's back, "Let's go to Demon World, Puu!" As Puu flapped his wings he went inside of the tunnel to fly all the way to get to Demon World.
Third P.O.V.
Back in the demon world, the three fighters were tired and yet weaken by the powerful male standing before them still powerful and not
"Eri...I want you to do this favor." Kurama told her directly as she sat there stiffening. "Runaway. Runaway as far as you can before things get ugly."
"But..." Eri stood there not knowing what to do. As she stood up to take a couple of steps back and then whipped around to run away.
"Is running away the only option for her?" Kuwabara worried.
"There aren't any demons nearby since they are climbing the rope to head to the human world. So, she shouldn't be harmed; she'll be fine." Hiei reassured grunting to stand up again.
Hiei gritted his teeth hissing in pain as he held his waist right where Sensui kicked it almost cracking a bone. Kurama and Kuwabara were just about to fall into their place as Sensui glanced at the three of them with a triumphant look.
"You're all done. None of you could stand up against me and take me down with your rank classes." Sensui said candidly. "I apologize if I happened to have caused you any harm."
"Kill us if you're going to. Just spare us the sound of your voice." Hiei bluntly says in a slightly sarcastic tone.
"Physical strength is greater than ours, the moment. That's all." Kurama said. "Unfortunately...that's the only thing that matters here in Demon World."
"Is that so? Then, may I spare your time with these last few moments for the cause of your broken bones." Sensui said.
Sensui inhales saying, "SOMEONE ELSE IS ABOUT TO DIE BECAUSE OF YOU!" He shouted as the main three frozen into place slightly wide eyes to listen to his threat. "IS THAT REALLY WHAT YOU WANT? ERI!" Eri stopped running as she stood in fear in her eyes just listening to Sensui's words to think that she harmed the others for what she thought that she did.
'He's trying to blame her for all the mess we've done.' Kuwabara thought.
"Leave her alone!" Kurama yelled, grunting to stand up to fall back on the ground resting one knee and the other raised to lye his arm on it.
Back with Eri, she thought of the horrible and painful tests that Sensui had operated on her before she had escaped from him.
"I look like she's at her limit," Itsuki said. "She used up all her strength."
"Fine, then. It's about time that we revive you." Sensui forming his energy on the palm of his hand to reach over and rest it on Eri's head.
"Let's go back to square one." He said.
"No," Eri begged.
The three were trying to stop Sensui until they heard someone coming from behind them and saw Eri, "Wait...It's not...I don't want this." She said in a pleading expression as they were now worried about losing Eri after being defeated by the overpowered Sensui.
"Go back! You need to runaway Eri!" Hiei shouted.
Eri stood there petrified hearing Sensui calling her, "Eri." He starts in a deep and scary tone sending shivers down Eri's spine. "Look at them, injured and alone. You don't really think they can defeat me, do you?"
The question for Eri was a quick response, "No, I don't." The three were slightly wide-eyed at her response, but she was too afraid to think positive that everything will be okay.
"Smart girl. So then, what do you suppose you should do?" He asked again.
"I'll come back," Eri replied staring directly into his eyes.
"NO!" Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara protested that she doesn't need to follow Sensui's orders.
"You can't go back! You'll put yourself into more suffering!" Kuwabara pleaded.
Eri ignores as she walked up cuffing her hands together saying, "But if I do, I want you to make them all better again!"
"Eri..." Hiei muttered.
Sensui smirked, "Ah, yes, it's so much easier to be hurt yourself than to watch while others are hurt for you, isn't it?" The three scowled over at Sensui knowing that the words he was saying weren't true. "The faint flicker of what Hiei gave you wasn't enough. Don't you see? You think you're all helping her, but you're really just being cruel."
"Bastard." Hiei snarled.
Sensui gazes at them darkly saying, "She doesn't want you."
Hiei trembled to stand up and regain his balance preventing him to fall back saying, "Maybe she doesn't want our help. Or maybe she doesn't understand what we're trying to do to risk our lives."
"Urameshi wanted to protect you the same way he did for us," Kuwabara said sitting up glaring at Sensui.
"We won't let you down. You have the right to be scared, but we're here to prevent the same suffering to happen again. We're going to save you, no matter what Eri!" Kurama vowed.
"Foolish." Sensui sighed.
As the three were ready to get back up and fight on, a spark of red light and cawing sound came from the thick sky of the horizon appeared Yusuke and Koenma riding on Puu. Puu was much bigger and he must've evolved since they were heading straight down towards them as Sensui couldn't believe his eyes to see the spirit detective back to life.
"I'm sorry I got delayed. Traffic was a bitch." Yusuke said with a cocky grin. "But I'm back! And I'm ready to finish this!"
As Puu landed, Sensui glared over as the others reunited the loss of their friend to find him alive. They thought it was a dream or at least Kuwabara thought this whole thing was an illusion.
"Some friends you are! Dictin' a guy while he's down and then hoggin' the bad guys all to yourselves." Yusuke said walking over towards his friends wearing one shoe on his foot as he scowled at his friends. "I gotta admit, I'm disappointed in you jerks. But did you honestly think I'd just lie there, and let you guys fight for my battles for me? Gimme a break!"
"Urameshi! But you were...Well, you were definitely dead! I swear it!" Kuwabara exclaimed as his eyes were popping out the back of his head. "Your heart stopped beating! I doubled checked!"
"Yeah, I can't explain that." Yusuke raised an eyebrow and pointed at his chest, "In fact, my ticker's still not tickin'. I guess I should be worried, huh?"
Both Kurama and Hiei let out a chuckle as they burst out laughing as well as Yusuke. Kuwabara and Eri were both confused about what they were laughing about considering Yusuke's heart wasn't beating normally than it should be.
"You'll get used to that. You see, Demon hearts don't beat in the conventional human sense." Kurama explained.
"Demon?!" Kuwabara exclaimed in disbelief to hear that word coming out of Kurama's mouth.
"Yes, Demon," Koenma spoke up.
"I keep hopin' I wake up soon." Kuwabara let out a sigh.
"It's no dream. Yusuke has had dormant blood inside him, Mazoku blood, which explains a few things, I'd say." Koenma explained.
"Yeah, funny story...One of my ancestors way back was this Mazoku guy..." Yusuke starts explaining to Kuwabara and the others about learning his family history, "So, when I died, I was able to come back, but more like him."
"Ah! So you are a demon!" Kuwabara yelped.
Eri stares up in awe to see Yusuke was standing there in one piece and acted as nothing happened between Sensui and him. Yusuke glanced over to see Eri and gave her a cocky grin chuckling down at her.
"Glad to see you were okay, Eri. Seems like they did a good job babysitting you." He said kneeling at her level as she glanced over his shoulder to see the giant bird. Yusuke noticed what she was looking at and chuckled, "It's okay. It's just Puu-only bigger." Puu leans over to nuzzle his head against Eri as she hugged him not smiling though.
Yusuke glanced over at Sensui saying, "Sensui, this ends now. We're going to have a rematch."
"I'm afraid our battle is over," Sensui replied as Yusuke's face fallen as the others glared towards him except Eri had a terrified expression. "There is no use for fighting when the mission to unlock the gate to the human world is closing in."
"What?" Koenma exclaimed.
"Didn't you remember what I said? It can't be unlocked not unless I have Eri or Kuwabara." Sensui said as he charged up his aura that was strong enough to blow the others back as Eri remained standing still as a statue. She was horrified that she didn't know what to do.
"Eri!" Hiei shouted her name as she stood not far away until the ground began to rumble underneath as Sensui used his spirit energy to create a rock tower. He was going to get away with Eri at this point as Hiei and the others watch in horror to see the girl floating in mid-air just as Sensui caught her. Hiei tries to grab her until he saw the necklace wrapped around her as he felled back down on the ground gritted his teeth and glared up towards Sensui.
"This is my moment to escape and you can't stop me. You've failed to rescue Eri and now..." Sensui told them down below as he released the girl setting Eri aside saying, "...It's time to change this society for good. The human world gate will be open as I will join with the rest of the demons to complete this mission."
Yusuke gritted his teeth saying, "Everyone! Get on Puu we're going after them!"
The others aboard it except for Kurama who used his demon plant wings to fly with them. They had to get Eri back and losing her will be the end of the world and the human race will no longer exist if the demons keep climbing to reach the top leading them to the human world.
'Save her! That's all that matters!' Yusuke thought.
'You won't get away this. Eri isn't going up there with you.' Hiei thought clenching his fist hoping not to lose the girl again.
With Eri being on top of the rock tower that Sensui was controlling she couldn't do anything. She sat there like a weakling until she noticed something flying next to her as her eyes slightly widen to see the cloak that was around her before wasn't destroyed.
"Ugh, that filthy thing is here," Sensui growled in a disgusted tone.
Eri gasped, "Hiei's cloak..." She said, but then the previous fighting and death events start coming back. 'I don't like this. Why do they keep trying?'
She then saw the cloak rising into the air as she recalled back to Yusuke's words, "I'm never losing you again, Eri.", then she remembered Kurama's words, "We'll take on against you as long as Eri's safe!" and she began to stand up as the cloak began to fly behind her as she thought about Kuwabara," Urameshi wanted to protect you the same way he did for us." and last was Hiei as he said, "I'll protect you at all cost."
Just as Eri reached for the cape her spirit energy activated caused the others to look up to see what was going on. Puu was flying them up but the issue was that the demons were reaching for them and the rocks that were crumbling apart from the tower Sensui was controlling.
"What was that?" Kuwabara inquired.
"That energy...It's Eri's." Kurama replied.
'She was reaching for my cloak.' Hiei thought that he witnessed what just happened that he even sensed her incredible power.
Eri was sitting on the rock clutching onto the cloak in deep thought as she glanced over to see the others riding on Puu flying after them.
'T-They're going to die if they keep fighting for their lives to save me.' Eri thought as flashbacks when she first met them when they were taking care of her just to make sure she was safe. 'I have to go back!' She thought making her decision as she held onto the cloak tightly as Yusuke saw her at the edge preparing to jump. 'I have to trust them!'
Yusuke said, "Koenma you take control over Puu. I'm going to save Eri."
"Be careful Yusuke," Koenma told him as the detective balanced himself to stand up and looked up before preparing to jump and climb up. Yusuke braced himself as he jumped and began to climb on the large rocks falling to keep him going the demon was falling also which he used them to boost them up or punch them if they get in the way.
"ERI!" Yusuke shouted reaching out his hand out for her as he stared up into her red eyes that showed sympathy.
'I can't let her go again.' Yusuke thought.
"ERI!" Yusuke shouted her name again.
The visions of Eri came into his mind of the day he saved her and how she was suffering through this ordeal of abuse. He kept going until as he saw her jump off the rock tower holding onto Hiei's cloak tightly as she peered down at him as she reached out her small arms. In her eyes, he read in them saying 'Catch me!' as he got closer to her.
'No. I won't lose you again.' Yusuke thought reaching out his arms to get closer. 'This time...I'll hold on!'
Just as Eri came into his view with her arms wide open likes his, Yusuke caught her just in time. She was relieved as much as he was to be glad that she made her decision to go with them and not with Sensui.
"I got you. I won't let you go." He whispered into her ear as he rested a hand on the back of her head. Eri held onto Yusuke as he held her in the air to slightly twirl around in the air as she held onto the cloak wrapped around her.
"URAMESHI! GET OUT OF THERE NOW!" Kuwabara screamed.
Yusuke gasped looking up to see Sensui glaring down at them angrily as he smashed his hand into the rock yelling, "GIVE HER BACK!" He reached out his hand to use his spirit to strike around Yusuke and the other demons.
"Puu! Go higher!" Koenma ordered.
As Puu got higher up into the sky without getting damaged by the rockfall or any demons that were falling due to Sensui's temper tantrum of losing Eri. Yusuke held onto Eri to dodge the falling rocks and Sensui's spirit energy attacks he was aiming directly at him only to dodge.
Hiei peers down to see Yusuke struggling to get out of there as he deeply thought, 'Don't you dare...you better not let her go.' He begged in his mind over and over again. They can't lose Eri after all the hard work they risked their lives to rescue her and Kuwabara.
"Don't you dare let her go!" Hiei shouted towards the spirit detective who held Eri in his arms.
Yusuke thought, 'I won't let go!' He held Eri tightly and began to avoid the rocks and demons falling as he jumped on each of them. He glanced up to see Sensui was floating towards him as Yusuke held onto Eri before something unexpected happened when he vanished that shocked Sensui.
The others were surprised that Yusuke wasn't there anymore and they saw the tower was breaking apart as Sensui collapsed on the ground. In the sky, two people reappeared as Yusuke held Eri in his arms letting out a small gasp escaping from his lips. They were flying in the air so high, he began to process what just happened in the middle of rescuing Eri.
