After Luke Skywalker disappears, his son is thrust on an adventure to find him and save the galaxy from the First Order. This leads him to a young scavenger named Rey, who will change his life forever... A retelling of the sequel trilogy in a more satisfying way, changing certain parts of the story, adding two or three OC's and elements from Legends.

17. Book 3: Chapter 3

Book 3:

The Rise of SkyWalker

Chapter 3: Fear

The crew made their way out of the tunnels, seeing an old ship on a hill.

C-3PO, "we cannot possibly fly in that old wreck."

Mara, "I don't think we have much of a choice Threepio."

Poe, "we gotta keep moving. Find someone who can translate that dagger. Like a helpful droid."

Owen, "don't berate Threepio, Poe. He can only do so much."

C-3PO, "I suggest we return to the Millennium Falcon at once."

Rose, "that is a horrible idea."

Poe, "I agree with Rose. They'll be waiting for us at the Falcon."

Finn, "yeah, they'll throw us in the Pits of Griq."

Poe, "yeah. And use you as a target droid."

Padme, "or worse, smash you into who knows what in a spice mine!"

C-3PO, "you all make excellent points, at times."

While climbing the rock where Ochi's ship rests, Rey senses that Kylo Ren has arrived through the Force.

The Skywalker's can sense it as well.

Finn notices Rey.

Finn, "what is it?"

Rey, "I'll be right behind you. It's Okay."

Finn gave a concerned nod as he ran to the ship.

Owen, "he's here. Isn't he?"

Rey nodded. Owen gave her a kiss before saying, "deal with him, and get to the ship as fast as you can."

Rey gave a determined look before running off.

Owen and the others all got into the ship.

Poe, "let's see what we got. Let's get those converters fired up."

C-3PO shudders, "what a filthy ship!"

Mara, "says a droid who's been on the Falcon numerous times."

Poe is able to power the old ship up, with Padme helping with the controls.

Poe, "look at that."

Finn, "where is she?"

Poe, "Finn, help us out over here."

Finn, "Chewie, Rose, tell Rey we gotta go."

Chewie and Rose each give a nod as they run out.

Poe, "what's she doing? Where the hell's Rose and Chewie?"

Finn, "it's Ren."

However, a Knight of Ren is watching the Wookiee and woman from behind. As Rey waits in the desert, Ren's TIE whisper roars through the desert only meters above the sand. While Poe is waiting for Rey, Finn and Owen run out of the ship only to find that the Knights of Ren and stormtroopers had captured Chewbacca, Rose and Ochi's dagger while the two of them were searching for Rey. Finn and Owen watch as the two of them are led aboard an Atmospheric Assault Transport.

Finn is about to run forward, but Owen stops him.

Despite Finn's feelings for Rose, he knew he shouldn't just run after the transport.

As Ren approaches Rey in his new TIE whisper, Rey runs into a leap. As the ship flies beneath her, she severs a wing with her lightsabers and sends the ship into a tailspin. It crashes in a fireball some distance away.

As Rey stares at the crashed ship, which Ren jumps out of, she heard Finn yell!

Finn, "Rey! Rey!"

Rey turns to her friends.

Owen, "they got Chewie and Rose! They got 'em!"

They see two transports flying through the sky.

Rey sends her hand forth, pulling back the transport she thought her friends were in!

But that's when Ren began doing the same thing.

The fierce game of tug of war went on for several agonizing moments, until something terrifying happened.

Lightning suddenly surged out of Rey's hand, electrocuting the transport and sending it to the ground in flames!

Owen was horrified by the sight.

But then he sensed it.

Rose and Chewie are still alive! They were in the other transport!

Rey, "Chewie!"

Finn, "no!"

Owen clamped his hand on Finn's shoulder, "Finn, they're on the other transport! They're alive!"

Finn is relieved, but still shook.

Rey barely hears the words, and is thankful her friends still live, but it doesn't stop her from looking at her hand in fear.

She had just used a power of the darkside!

Poe, "Rey! We gotta go! They're coming!"

Finn, "Rey, come on!"

Owen, "Rey!"

Poe, "we gotta go!"

Rey whispers, "what did I do!?"

Finn, "Rey, come on!"

Kylo and Rey share a look before she runs after the others.

They get on the ship and fly off as fast as they can, leaving Ren there alone.

….

Later in the ship

Rey, "I lost control."

Finn, "it wasn't your fault."

Rey, "it was."

Mara, "no it wasn't Rey. You had no idea what you were doing. We've all lost control."

Owen, "and you didn't kill Rose and Chewie."

Finn, "it was Ren. He made you do it."

Rey, "Rose and Chewie have been taken. That power came from me."

Owen, "that power is only one part of you. Your family tree doesn't determine your destiny!"

Rey, "Owen, Mara, Finn, there are things you don't know."

Finn, "then tell us."

Rey pauses before saying, "I, uh, had a vision. Of the throne of the Sith. And who was on it."

Finn, "Ren?"

Rey, "not just him. Owen, Padme and I stood with Ben. As rulers of the First Order."

They all gave uneasy looks.

….

Meanwhile, the captured Millennium Falcon is escorted by TIE fighters aboard the Steadfast.

Hux, "we recovered the scavenger's ship, but she got away. Under the command of the Knights of Ren, we suffered losses. A transport was destroyed."

Pryde, "I've seen the report. That all?"

Hux, "no, Alligiant General. There was another transport in the desert. It brought back two valuable prisoners."

Pryde, "prisoners?"

Chewie and Rose are brought in, shackled.

Hux, "the beast used to fly with Han Solo."

Chewie roars.

Hux, "and the girl is allied with the remaining Jedi"

As Hux points a finger at Rose, she bites it, making him step back clutching his finger.

Pryde, "take them to Interrogation 6."

A trooper, "move it."

Rose and Chewie are taken away, hoping that their friends would save them.

….

Poe, "we've only got 8 hours left. So, what are we gonna do?"

Padme, "what can we do? We gotta go back to base."

Finn, "and leave Chewie and Rose captured, no!"

Poe, "we don't have time to go back. We are not giving up. If we do that, Chewie and Rose got captured for nothing."

Finn, "Poe, Chewie had the dagger!"

Mara, "that certainly throws a wrench in our plan."

Poe, "well, then we gotta find another way."

Finn, "well, there isn't. That was the only clue to the wayfinder thing, and it's gone. Taken by the First Order."

C-3PO, "so true. The inscription lives only in my memory now."

Poe, "hold on. The inscription that was on the dagger is in your memory?"

C-3PO, "yes, Master Poe. But the translation from a forbidden language cannot be retrieved. That is short of a complete redacted memory bypass."

Mara, "... no."

Finn, "a complete what?"

C-3PO, "it's a terribly dangerous and sinful act... performed on unwitting droids by dregs and criminals."

Finn, "let's do that!"

Owen, "doesn't Artoo have all of Threepio's memory saved up?"

Mara, "most likely."

C-3PO, "that is most reassuring."

Poe, "I know a black market droidsmith."

C-3PO, "black market droidsmith?"

Poe, "but he's on Kijimi."

Owen, "uh oh…."

Padme, "Kijimi?"

Finn, "what's wrong with Kijimi?"

Poe, "I had a little bad luck on Kijimi. But if this mission fails, it's all been for nothing. All we've done, all this time."

Padme, "that ain't happening."

Finn, "we're all in this", he looks over to Rey, "until the end."

Rey takes his hand.

Owen takes hers.

Rey, "for Chewie."

Owen, "for Rose."

Padme takes Owen's hand.

Padme, "for the Resistance!"

Mara takes her daughter's hand.

Mara, "for the Jedi!"

Finn holds his hand out to Poe.

Poe, "hands?"

Finn, "hands."

Poe takes his hand.

Poe, "for Chewie, Rose, the Resistance, and the Jedi. Kijimi."

C-3PO comes over and takes Poe's hand.

Thumper jumps out of Padme's pack and lands on their hands, chirping.

Elsewhere in the ship, BB-8 looks around.

BB-8 chirps softly as he finds a small deactivated droid.

It's name is D-O.

BB-8 powers up the tiny droid.

D-O, "battery charged. Hello."

BB-8 chirps to the little guy as he takes them to Rey and Owen.

Owen, "hey, what do we have there?"

D-O, "hello."

Rey, "hello."

Rey tries to pet the droid, but he rolls away.

D-O, "no... No, thank you."

BB-8 beeps in concern for D-O.

Rey, "looks like someone treated him badly. It's all right. You're with us now."

Owen, "no-one's gonna hurt you little guy."

BB-8 chirps softly to the newest addition to their crew.

….

The heroes of the Resistance make their way to the snow-dusted planet of Kijimi to execute their plan to discover what secrets the Dagger held. After landing in Kijimi City, the Resistance team does their best to avoid every stormtrooper they see.

Many civilians were being cornered by First Order troops, although quite a few were fighting back!

The story of Luke Skywalker fighting Ren had been spreading, and thus, more and more people have been defending themselves against the First Order.

Poe, "they're everywhere."

As they continue on, Poe says, "alright, I know what we should do."

C-3PO, "so do I. We should leave."

Padme, "ever the coward."

Thumper was shivering inside of the pack.

Poe, "clam it, Threepio. Follow me. All right. Let's head down this way."

They bump into a masked woman.

Zorii Bliss.

Owen, "oh shoot."

Zorii, "heard you were spotted at Monk's Gate. Thought, 'He's not stupid enough to come back here.'"

Poe, "oh, you'd be surprised."

Mara, "Force knows I ain't."

Rey, "who's this?"

Finn, "what's going on?"

Padme, "and where did she get that cool mask?"

Poe, "guys, this is Zorii. Zorii, this is Rey, Padme, Mara and Finn. You already know Owen."

Owen, "hey Zorii."

Finn, "great, she knows all of our names. Makes it easier to know who she shoots."

Zorii, "I could pull this trigger right now."

Poe, "I've seen you do worse."

Zorii, "for a lot less."

Padme, "I like this chick."

Mara, "now is not the time honey."

Poe, "can we just, uh... talk about this?"

Zorii, "I wanna see your brains in the snow."

Padme, "can she get any better?"

Poe, "so you're still mad? Zorii, we could use your help. We gotta crack this droid's head open and fast."

C-3PO, "pardon me!"

Owen, "he's kidding Threepio. At least I hope so."

Poe, "we're trying to find Babu Frik."

Zorii, "Babu? Babu only works with the crew. That's not you anymore."

Rey, "what crew?"

Zorii, "oh, funny he never mentioned it. Your friend's old job was running spice."

Finn, "you were a spice runner?"

Poe, "you were a stormtrooper?"

Owen, "he was a spice runner."

Poe, "you're a Jedi."

Mara, "he still acts like a spice runner."

Poe, "you still act like a war veteran."

Rey, "were you a spice runner?"

Poe, "were you a scavenger? We could do this all night."

Zorii, "you don't have all night. You know, I'm still digging out of the hole you put me in when you left to join the Resistance. You. You're the one they're looking for. Bounty for her just might cover us. Djak'kankah!"

Poe, "don't djak'kankah."

Zorii's allies surround the group and begin fighting.

Rey uses her staff as Owen and Padme use their fists. Mara simply pulls out her saber to scare off any attackers.

Poe and Finn watch the whole thing with wide eyes.

Rey is able to get the upper hand against Zorii, sending her to the ground.

Rey and Mara ignit their lightsabers and point them at Zorii.

Rey, "we could really use your help. Please."

Zorii, "not that you care... but I think you're okay."

Rey, "I care."

After earning her respect, Zorii begins leading the others to her group's hideout.

Zorii, "walkers. Stay close by."

Finn, "Poe Dameron, spice runner. Runner of spice."

Poe, "all right."

Finn, "get your spice!

Padme, "former-trooper says what?"

Finn, "what?"

Mara, "ha!"

Rey, "come on, Threepio."

C-3PO, "oh."

Zorii, "Babu's in the back."

The crew walked through a canyon filled with strange aliens and creatures.

Mara, "some things never change."

C-3PO, "don't mind us."

….

As Threepio is having his memory unlocked, he talks.

C-3PO, "I haven't the faintest idea why I agreed to this. I must be malfunctioning. I must be malfunctioning."

We see an adorable little alien, Babu Frik, working on Threepio.

Rey, "Babu Frik? Can you help us with this?"

Babu speaks his native tongue.

Rey, "Zorii? Is this gonna work?"

Owen, "please say yes?"

Zorri and Babu Frik converse in an alien language.

Zorii, "he says he's found something in your droid's forbidden memory bank. Words, translated from Sith."

Rey, "that's it."

Owen, "good work little guy."

Finn, "yeah, that's what we need."

Zorii, "who are you hanging out with that speaks Sith?"

Padme, "I think it's best if you don't know right now."

Poe, "can you make him... Babu, can you make him translate it?"

Zorri and Babu Frik converse again.

Zorii translates, "yes. But it will cause a complete..."

C-3PO, "a complete memory wipe."

Owen and Padme looked at their mother. Out of the entire group, she had known Threepio the longest.

Poe, "wait, wait, wait. We make him translate it... he won't remember... anything?"

Babu, "droid, memory go blank."

C-3PO, "oh!"

Babu, "blank, blank."

C-3PO, "there must be some other way."

Finn, "doesn't R2 back up your memory?"

C-3PO, "oh, please. R2's storage units are famously unreliable."

Padme, "like Aunt Leia said, never underestimate a droid. The hard part is completing our mission so we could give you back your memories."

Rey, "you know the odds better than any of us. Do we have a choice?"

Threepio pauses before saying, "if this mission fails... it was all for nothing. All we've done... all this time."

C-3PO looks at everyone.

Poe, "what are you doing there, Threepio?"

C-3PO, "I have been on many adventures. Artoo spoke of the adventures he and I had in the Clone Wars. I went on countless missions with Master Luke, Captain Solo, Princess Leia, General Calrissian, Mistress Mara, and many others. And I have lost so many of those names. So, I am taking one last look, sir... at my friends. Friends I've made over several long years. In case I do not regain these memories."

Owen, "I promise Threepio, we'll make sure you remember us."

Threepio gives an unsure nod.

D-O, "sad."

The group hears muffled thudding.

Babu, "uh-oh."

Zorii, "night raids are gonna start soon. I'll keep a lookout."

Poe, "I'm coming with you."

Zorii scoffs and asks, "you still don't trust me, huh?"

Poe, "did you ever trust me?"

Zorii, "nope."

Babu laughs as the two of them leave.

Rey, "Owen, how do you know Zorii?"

Owen, "when we first brought Poe in, I met Zorii. She was pretty nice, when she wasn't shooting at me."

Padme had an unreadable look as she heard the story, scratching Thumper's belly, making him tsp his foot.

….

Kylo, "report, General Pryde."

Pryde, "there's been a development, sir. The Knights of Ren have tracked the scavenger."

Griss, "to a settlement called Kijimi."

Phasma, "that snowball?"

Hux, "shall we destroy the city, Supreme...?"

Rey raises his finger, silencing the General.

….

Babu Frik mutters as he works.

C-3PO, "I just had the idea. There's something else we could try-"

C-3PO powers down before he can say anything.

Babu mutters to himself as he continues working on Threepio.

Distant explosions are heard.

We see Poe and Zorii sitting on top of the building.

Poe, "how long's it been like this?"

Zorii, "First Order took most of the kids a long time ago. Can't stand the cries anymore. The only saving grace is that more people are fighting back. I've saved up enough to get out. I'm going to the Colonies."

Poe, "how? All those hyperlanes are blocked."

Zorii showed him a small medallion.

Poe, "that's the First Order Captain's medallion. I've never seen a real one."

Zorii, "free passage through any blockade. Landing privileges, any vessel."

The part of Zorii's mask that covers her eyes disappears, revealing three eyes looking at Poe.

Zorii, "wanna come with me?"

Poe, "I can't walk out on this war. Not till it's over. Maybe it is. We sent out a call for help at the Battle of Crait. Nobody came. Even those who wanted to couldn't risk it. Everyone's so afraid. If it weren't for Luke, everyone woul have all given up by now."

Zorii, "I don't believe you believe that. Hey. They win by making you think you're alone. Remember? There's more of us."

...

Back inside, Rey and Padme put oil on D-O's joints, fixing the squeak in his wheel.

D-O, "squeaky wheel. I have a squeaky wheel. Squeak eliminated. Thank you. Very kind."

Rey, "something's not right about all of this."

Finn, "hmmmm?"

Owen, "what do you mean?"

Rey, "I know where I've seen it. The ship he was on. Ochi's ship."

Finn, "what?"

Mara, "really?"

Rey, "the day my parents left. They were on that ship."

Finn, "are you sure?"

Rey gives a nod.

Owen feels something. Like they're so close to learning what happened to Rey's parents, and why they left her on Jakku, even when she came from two powerful bloodlines?

The door opens, with Poe and Zorii walking in.

Zorii, "there's an incoming Destroyer."

Poe, "we gotta go now. Did we get it? Babu?"

Babu, "ayep, droid is ready!"

He activates Threepio, his eyes red as he speaks in a monotone voice, "the Emperor's wayfinder is in the Imperial vault. At Delta 3-6, Transient 9-3-6, Bearing 3-2... on a moon in the Endor system. From the southern shore. Only this blade tells. Only this blade tells."

C-3PO powers down.

Babu yells in victory, "hehaaaa!"

Finn, "the Endor system. Where the last war ended?"

Padme, "once again, things seem to come full circle."

More rumbling is heard.

Rey walks over and looks out the door.

Finn, "Rey!"

Rey, "Ren's Destroyer."

Poe, "he's here?"

Owen, "oh great."

Rey senses something.

So does Owen, Padme and Mara.

Rey, "Chewie?"

Owen, "Rose?"

Finn perks up upon hearing the names, "what about them?"

Rey, "they're on Ren's ship."

Poe, "really?!"

Rey, "yes! They're on that ship, alive!"

Padme, "I knew they'd be fine!"

Finn, "we gotta go get them!"

Owen, "don't have to tell us twice!"

Zorii, "your friends are on that sky trash?"

Poe, "I guess they are."

Threepio wakes up and speaks in his normal voice, "might I introduce myself? I am C-3PO, Human Cyborg Relations. And you are?"

Poe, "okay, that's gonna be a problem."

Mara, "we'll get Artoo to fix it later."

Babu, "hello. I Babu Frik."

C-3PO, "why, hello!"

….

We see the group running

Poe, "Threepio, move your metal ass. We're almost there."

C-3PO, "how dare you! We've only just met!"

Owen, "oh if only you knew."

Zorii, "Poe. Might get you on a capital ship. Go help your friend."

As she says this, she gives Poe the medallion.

Poe, "Zorii, I don't think I can take this."

Zorii, "I don't care what you think."

Padme, "that makes two of us. It might be our only shot."

Poe, "we have to go. Now. Come with us."

Zorii, "Poe."

Poe, "can I kiss you?"

Zorii laughs as she pushes Poe forward, "go."

Padme gives a glare at the question.

Owen, "see ya later Zorii."

Zorii, "you I wouldn't mind."

Rey, "sorry, he's taken."

Zorii, "fair enough."

And thus our heroes head back to Ochi's ship, eager to save their friends….

And so, Chewie and Rose are both captured, but luckily, Rey, Owen, Padme and Mara can sense they're still alive when Rey blows up the other transport. That part bugged me, since they should've been able to sense it.

Also, Owen and Padme are pretty sure they can get Threepio's memories back, but they're still afraid they won't be able to get the droid back in order to do so.

Also, I once heard someone suggest giving Zorii three eyes, to build up what she looked like, so that's what I did.

Skywalker, Palpatine and Kenobi are tied, while Just Rey has one vote.
