A/N: The brothers learn something that could help them in the future, if they are willing to do it. It's a little twist I threw in here to prepare for the third and last story of this trilogy. I hope you are enjoying the read. Reviews would be great. NC
Chapter 14
As the week passed, Dean became a pro at moving from one place to another without losing his balance. He got used to the funky feeling of it and feeling lightheaded afterwards and started enjoying bouncing around. He found the farthest he could go was like forty feet, no matter how hard he tried. He felt that was a big accomplishment and was proud of it.
Sam was becoming more confident with astral projection and by the end of the week, he could make himself corporal enough that Dean could see and hear him. He still had a ways to go to get it down pat but was sure he could do it now. With Dean's honesty and help, Sam was starting to feel better about himself and the changes going on within him. He wasn't seeing himself as a freak or weirdo anymore; he was seeing the new Sam that was spreading his wings and learning to fly.
On Wednesday, Mama Edeline requested to see both brothers and Missouri for a meeting that Friday morning. She wanted to discuss some things with all of them. Dean and Sam wondered what this meeting was going to be about and talked about it Thursday afternoon while Dean washed and waxed his Baby and Missouri's car. This was something that he allowed Sam to do too, since it would not deal with actually working on his car. They did get into a sponge throwing contest, but Sam was sneaky and used his powers to soak Dean with the hose that was laying behind him. By the time they were finished, they looked like two drowned rats and Missouri refused to let them in the house until they dried in the sun. Both brothers had sun kissed faces making them look even more healthy and vital than before.
Dean and Sam went to bed early Thursday night and lay there talking about what they thought Mama Edeline wanted both of them for the next day. The brothers talked for a couple of hours about everything they had learned and how it was changing their lives and how they would use their abilities in the future to help them hunt and keep each other safe.

Dean and Sam found Missouri making breakfast when they came down Friday morning. They gathered around the table and had a delicious meal before getting ready to leave for Mama Edeline's place. Missouri had put together lunch for them to share with her and had Sam carry the basket filled with the food to the car. Dean unlocked the Impala's driver's door and got in to open the other ones, allowing Sam to get in the back and Missouri in the passenger seat.
"Do you know why Mama E wants to see all of us today?" Dean questioned Missouri.
"Not a clue. She has something important to talk to us about is all I know. And no. before you ask, I can't sense what she wants."
"I wasn't…" Dean started but trailed off knowing he had been caught thinking just that.
"We'll find out soon enough Dean," Sam told him. "I'm sure she has a good reason for the meeting."
"You think Mama E's decided she's done all she can for me? I'm not sure what else I can learn or do since I'm only half demon."
"I don't know dear, Mama Edie might surprise you," Missouri offered.
"She is unique and seems very wise," Sam said from the back. "Did you know she uses Elias, her dog, to see the world?"
"Wait? Wanna run that by me again?" Dean asked glancing at Sam in the rear mirror.
"She links with Elias so she can see."
"So that's how she saw me," Dean mumbled more to himself as he drove, watching traffic around him.
"She told me as I got stronger, I might be able to talk to spirits on the other side," Sam offered. "Do you think I could Missouri?"
"I don't see why not; you are very gifted and with practice it might happen," she replied.
Silence filled the car as Dean made the last turn on the road Mama Edeline lived on. The brothers could feel each other's uneasiness but didn't comment on it and Missouri remained quiet too. He signaled to turn onto her driveway and eased the car up it until he stopped in front of her house. Once he was parked and the engine was turned off, everyone got out and the boys let Missouri lead the way up the walkway to the door. She knocked and waited for an answer.
"Right on time, come in, come in," Mama Edeline greeted them as she opened the door wider.
"Sam take the basket to the kitchen and I'll put what needs to go in the fridge away in a moment.
"Yes ma'am," Sam replied heading into the kitchen.
"How are you doing today Mama Edie?" Missouri asked giving her a warm hug.
"These old bones ain't what they used to be. Seems like I get a new ache every week, but I'm blessed to have stayed around this long, so I don't complain much. I figure when my time comes, I'll be ready."
"I brought you some of my special blended tea that might help with the aches."
"Thank you, Missy; you know how I love that blend."
"I'll go put the food away and then we can talk."
"Have a seat children; no need hovering," Mama Edeline instructed the brothers.
Dean and Sam moved to the couch and made themselves comfortable to wait for Missouri to return from the kitchen. Dean couldn't help but stare at Elias who was on his bed by the recliner. Sam noticed and kicked his foot to get him to stop. He gave Dean a bitch face, 'don't stare at the dog' look and got an eye roll from Dean and a middle finger he hid from the dog.
"Alright, that's done," Missouri sighed taking a seat in an overstuffed chair.
"The reason I asked all of you here today is to tell you what I have observed, sensed, and concluded," Mama Edeline started. She looked to the brothers with unseeing eyes, as they both leaned forward to hear better, wanting to catch every word she said. "You two are incredibly unique and powerful, but to be brothers makes it even more special. Tell me, have you always been able to sense each other's thoughts?"
"I guess," Sam answered for them. "We were close growing up, Dean raised me and there was always a bond between us."
"As I expected. And now with the changes that has happened to both of you, does that bond seem stronger or less?"
"Stronger," Dean replied with confidence.
"Good, what happened to the both of you, because of your strong innate bond, has linked your souls in a unique way. The power that each of you have has formed a pathway to the other. I remembered that I'd read something many years ago and I think it may help you. There is a way that you can share these powers with each other to make one stronger. Understand, you are only sharing the power, not the ability. If Dean gave Sam his power, Sam would be much stronger psychically, but would not have the abilities that Dean has. And the same with Dean, he would become stronger, could heal faster, and move farther. But I have to warn you, if you do that, one of you will lose your powers and could be vulnerable. It would not be a permanent loss by any means."
Sam and Dean looked at each other as they digested what Mama Edeline just said. They both thought about their powers and giving them away for a short time.
"Why would we want to do that?" Dean asked.
"There may come a time that you face a powerful enemy and separately you might not be strong enough to defeat it. But if one of you gives his powers to the other, that might be the key to stopping it," Mama Edeline explained. "It could be the key to defeating your enemy."
"What does this transfer of power entail?" Sam asked, thinking this might be something they should do to be prepared for the future.
"You both would need to get a tattoo and go through a ritual to unite your powers and then if you ever wanted to do it, one would speak the spell and their powers would flow to the other."
"Is doing this painful?" Dean questioned.
"I don't know in all honesty. I have read about it but have never known anyone who actually did it. There has not been a pair like you around in a very long time. Missy, go to the bookcase and look on the second shelf, you will find an old tome called, Ekriti sakre Siyon yo."
"Alright," Missouri nodded getting up and going to the bookcase to find the book. She pulled out an old, dark, leather bound book that had ancient symbols and sigils carved into the cover and brought it to Mama Edeline.
"Yes, this is the one." She let her fingers trace over the symbols and runes on the cover of the book to be sure it was the right one. "Here Sam, take this book and turn to page fifty-seven I believe, and tell me what you see." She passed the book to the younger hunter.
Sam accepted the musty smelling book and turned to the page, looking at it as Dean leaned closer to see too. He studied the tattoo and was surprised at how simple it looked to be able to control their powers. "It looks like an infinity symbol but has strange symbols in each circle that I don't recognize. I can't read what it says."
"That is the correct page, does the ritual start with 'Pran de nanm yo kanpe devan m '" she asks.
Sam studies the first few words and tried to sound them out to himself.
"Yeah, I think that's right. Missouri, can you read it?" Sam questions handing the book to her.
"Yes, this is the ritual," she confirmed.
"Missy, there's paper and pen on the desk over there. Would you translate the ritual for the boys, so they know what it says?"
"I'll be happy to. I hope my Creole is not rusty." She moved to the desk and found the paper and pen. Missouri began to translate the page, writing it down carefully and drawing the tattoo also. Once she was done, she put the book back on the shelf and folded the paper before handing it to Sam who nodded his thanks. He tucked it in his pocket to look at later, sensing Dean's need to talk alone.
"It will have to be spoken in the Creole language, but I think Missy can do that. Why don't you boys think about it over the weekend and if you decide to do it, my son can do the tattoos and we will perform the ritual here," Mama Edeline suggested. "There is no hurry to do it. It is your decision to make."
"Thanks, you're right it's a lot to consider," Dean agreed. He wanted to talk to Sam about it alone and they would both have to agree to it. He thought about who might come after them and knew if a powerful demon showed up, they might be in trouble.
