Deeks looked up from his paper work to give the surrounding area a suspicious look. Today was anything but normal and it just didn't feel right. And Deeks had been around enough to trust those feelings. Especially when they put him on edge like this.

"Are you okay, Deeks?" Kensi asked him, cutting through his thoughts.

"Do you really want to know the answer to that?" Sam chuckled.

"He's been looking up from his paperwork with that look on his face for the past thirty minutes," Kensi pointed out. "I think that counts as more concerning behaviour than normal. Even for Deeks."

"Are you sure?"

Deeks pouted at Sam's comment. He wasn't that weird! Most of the time, anyway.

"Hey!"

Kensi gave him a sympathetic look but he noticed that she didn't disagree with Sam. Traitor. She was supposed to be his partner. Sam already had Callen to back him up!

"My behaviour is not concerning," Deeks felt like he had to defend.

His behaviour was completely normal. It was this lot that were the outliers.

Speaking of their weird behaviour, they all shook their heads at him and got back to their work. Deeks pouted at them.

"What were you trying to say?" Callen eventually asked as it became evident that Deeks was not going to bring his original conversation up.

Whoops. That was bad considering he was the one to start all the banter. Or bickering. Whatever you wanted to view it as.

"Nothing's happening," Deeks finally said.

If he was expecting some sort of big response, he was to be disappointed. Instead, he got varying levels of concerned looks and raised eyebrows.

"Yes," Callen said slowly. "That's why we're doing paperwork."

Hetty was always on them so much about it that they got in the habit of doing it if they sat at their desks for more than ten minutes. It never got all of it done at once but even a little bit kept them from being buried in it. Mostly.

"But, like, nothing's happening."

"You already said that," Sam told him, frowning as he held the backspace for a long time.

Ouch, that looked like it deleted half a page. Never a good thing when it came to paperwork.

Deeks looked around him and shook his head in disgust. Did none of them see a problem with this? Like, at all? Because he was actually quite concerned. They never got a quiet day. Never.

As if he could hear what Deeks was thinking, Callen, without looking up from his laptop, said "Just enjoy it while it lasts."

"But it never lasts," Deeks complained.

Did none of them understand this? How could you enjoy something like this when it was just going to be snatched away from you by a cruel whistle?

"That's life," Sam informed him.

That just made it sound so depressing. But he supposed the two older agents were right. Grab the good while you can, they all knew that by now.

"I just don't want to jinx it."

"No such thing as jinxes."

That came from Sam because of course it did.

"Yeah, but you wouldn't want to risk it, would you?" was Deeks' oh so clever response.

One that Sam definitely did not look convinced by. Before he could argue about using common sense Eric appeared at the top of the stairs.

"You better not be telling us that there's a case," Sam warned him. "Unlike Deeks I am not tempting fate and enjoying our slow day."

The Tech Operator gave them a blank look and shook his head.

"No case. But it is lunch time."

Predictably, Kensi's stomach growled in response.

"Seriously?" Deeks felt like he had to ask, suspicious tone and all. "No case?"

"No case," Eric confirmed, still looking a bit confused.

"I could go for a bite to eat," Kensi said, stretching.

Deeks heard something crack unpleasantly. That was definitely not a good noise. Looked like yoga was needed again. Not that he was going to complain. Kensi doing yoga was always... fun to watch. And participate in.

"Same here," Sam said, closing his laptop. "What do you want to get?"

"Well, I'm craving bacon. Preferably in a burger," Kensi said, kicking her lips at the thought of it.

"Oh, bacon burger sounds good," Callen agreed appreciatively.

Sam and Deeks rolled their eyes at their partners.

"Would it kill you two to eat somewhat healthy?"

"Bacon's healthy," Callen pointed out.

"In who's world?"

"Ours," Kensi said firmly and Callen actually gave her a high five.

Now Deeks shook his head in despair and he noticed Sam was mirroring him. Their partners were actually impossible sometimes.

"It's an important part of our diet," Callen said solemnly.

Sam squinted at him. "What was your blood pressure again?"

"Gifted, remember?"

Sam grumbled something under his breath and Deeks had to bite back a smile. But he had to agree with Sam. It just wasn't fair or right that their partners could put all sorts of crap into their bodies and still be able to do what they do. Though, to be fair, Kensi didn't purposefully eat unhealthily. She just ate... well, everything. Healthy or not.

"The ones from that place two blocks away are really good," Kensi told Callen. "They really crisp it."

Callen looked intrigued by that and Deeks groaned. He'd seen in there and unfortunately had food from there. It was a greasy sort of place. From the sleazy guy from behind the counter to the pools, pools of grease that the food was sitting in. Not exactly the healthiest place in the world but, strangely, the food was good.

"What else do they do?" Sam asked in interest.

Deeks decided that he should warn the big guy before he put in an order.

"There's nothing healthy on that menu," he warned him.

"Do you not want bacon in your burger?" Kensi asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I do. Of course, I do," Deeks reassured her. "Who doesn't have bacon in that burger?"

The very idea was simply ridiculous.
