A/N: Hey guys! So sorry about such a long wait for this chapter, life has been so hectic lately! But I am back now and here is the next chapter!
Ellie awoke the next morning from where she slept on the couch in Abby's arms after the two were up late talking everything through. The two had wanted to enter a serious relationship over the last several days but had been scared about their feelings for each other. The two women were supposed to be hating each other and now they were first friends and now lovers? It did not make sense to either of them until last night or up until last night, it had been easier to ignore their feelings rather than pursue them.
Ellie untangled herself from Abby's arms and got up, putting her boots and coat on before going to sit out on the front porch. She was still in shock over what happened the night before, still trying to wrap her head around it. The woman looked out onto the horizon, briefly wondering what Tommy and Dina would think if they knew she was with Abby; she even wondered what Joel would think if he was alive and saw them together.
That doesn't matter. None of them are here. She thought, not seeing Lev approach from behind.
"Hey, you are feeling better?" Lev asks as he sat beside her on the porch.
Ellie jumped slightly, "yeah. Sorry I scared you last night."
"That's okay. What's going on with you and Abby?"
"I guess we're together now." Ellie says awkwardly, brushing a strand of hair out of her eyes. Ellie knew that out of all the people she knew in her life, Lev would be the most accepting, but still found herself nervous.
"Oh cool. I think you guys are good for each other." He says, smiling faintly at her.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I mean it's weird because of Seattle but," he shrugs, standing up and going to kick around the snow with his feet, "just make me a promise."
"Sure. Anything." She says with a nod, looking at him with green eyes as she went over.
"Don't hurt her. You have both been through a lot, but I don't like my friends hurt."
"I promise. No ones going to get hurt." Ellie says, briefly turning to see Abby still asleep through the part of the window that wasn't covered by wooden boards, caught off guard when Lev launched a snowball and hit her in the back.
"Ow! Hey!" She says, whipping her head towards him as she tried to hide her smile.
"What? I didn't throw anything at you." He says innocently before throwing another snowball at her.
Ellie laughed as she started to make snowballs and throw them at the fifteen-year-old, trying her best to dodge his throws. She didn't know the last time she had this much fun, probably not since she was living in Jackson before Joel's death.
"I know where you live!"
"I'd hope so. We live together!" Lev retorts as he threw another snowball, hitting her in the stomach.
Oh, now it was war.
Abby woke up to the sounds of Lev and Ellie laughing outside, the sun blinding her as it shone through the cracks in the window. Abby looked around, feeling as though everything that had happened the night before had been a dream. Except the fact that it wasn't. The blonde was glad that she and Ellie could finally talk everything over after nearly two months of awkward conversation and move on for the most part, even accepting their feelings for each other.
The woman got up from the couch and put her coat and shoes on, going outside to see Lev and Ellie in the middle of a snowball fight, making her smile. Abby had not seen Ellie and Lev this happy in ages and it warmed her heart to see them being normal for once, even for just a minute.
Abby was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice Ellie getting a snowball ready to throw until it hit her in the shoulder, almost making her lose her balance from the force it was thrown.
"Hey!" Abby says as she looked at her assailant, who stood there with a smirk on her face as she got another snowball ready, throwing it and hitting Abby in the face, "oh now you're asking for it!" She adds, making a snowball and throwing it back at Ellie, who dodged.
"Oh, so it's going to be like that?" She asks, throwing another snowball. This time hitting Ellie right in the back as she tried to run, making her fall to the ground.
"Hey! No fair!" Ellie says, coughing as she went to stand.
"Yeah? Not so nice being attacked with your back turned, is it?" She asks, only for another snowball to hit her in the chest. This time from Lev.
"Really? I thought you were on my side."
"Who said I was?" Lev asks, laughing as Ellie got up and threw another snowball at Abby.
"What? I've got you double teaming me now?" Abby asks in disbelief, making another snowball as Ellie ran around to the back of the house and Abby ran after her, "you can run but you can't hide!"
Abby ran around the back of the house, taking cover behind a pile of firewood and peering around, just barely seeing Ellie hiding under the porch. Abby was reminded of their fight in the theater when she had to play cat and mouse with Ellie and beat Ellie to a bloody pulp. This time though, Ellie wasn't crafting trap mines and Molotov's; this was purely fun.
She is so oblivious. She thought with a smirk as she saw Ellie peer towards the front yard, her back turned to the pile of wood. Abby took this as an opportunity to sneak around to the right of the porch, taking cover again when Ellie turned her head to look behind her. Abby smirked when she saw Ellie turn back around, her backside vulnerable as Ellie took the opportunity to scoop up another snowball, throwing it at the younger girl with all her might.
"Ow! Jesus!" Ellie says, not seeing Abby rush her until she was grabbed, Abby's arms snaking around her waist.
"I got you!" She chuckles, sitting on the ground with her girlfriend as the two laughed.
"Abby!" Ellie laughed, looking into the other woman's blue eyes.
"Ellie!" She mimicked as the other girl laughed, the two of them locking eyes before they heard Lev running around the back.
"Abby? Ellie?" He called, not seeing the two women hiding under the porch.
"You think what I'm thinking?" Abby asks softly as Lev went back around to the front and the two girls grabbed snowballs and quietly followed the boy as he looked for them.
"Okay in one," Abby starts, raising her arm.
"Two." Ellie says, following the same motions.
"Three," They both say simultaneously, throwing the snowballs at Lev.
"Hey! Ellie, I thought we were on the same team!"
"Nope."
"Then whose side are you on?"
Ellie looked at Abby before back at Lev.
"My girlfriends."
