Chapter 17: Frozen Target Practice

The Batmobile was currently taking the heroes to Divinity Church where the next challenge was. Alfred then came up on the Batmobile's screen and asked, "Things still progressing well, Master Bruce?". "We're headed to Divinity Church. Riddler won't give up, Alfred. His pride won't let him.", Batman told his butler. "You'll break his spirit, sir. I have every confidence.", Alfred said and then went off. "And his arms too, when we're done with him.", Jacob said. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, Jacob.", Batman said. They arrived at Divinity Church and stopped in front of another elevator door with a question mark with the label "Frozen Target Practice" above it. The door opened and the car drove right into the elevator. The door then closed behind them and the elevator then started to go down. Riddler then came on the wall and said, "The unexamined life is not worth living, Dark Knight, and I have been wondering why I let you aggravate me so. You're a cheat and a liar. A dressed-up strongman playing with expensive toys. "World's Greatest Detective?" Ha! And everyone from Gotham City to Star City believes it! I cannot abide a fraud, Detective, a dilettante masquerading amongst his intellectual betters, stealing every last scrap of appreciation, dignity and respect.", and then went off. The elevator then came to a stop and the door opened. The Batmobile then drove forward a little more and then came to a stop. The heroes all got out of the car and saw that there was some kind of platform in front of them. They continued to walk until the platform just a few feet away from them became covered in flames that came up from it. "Whoa!", Kristoff cried. Elsa saw that Olaf was too close to the flame and shouted, "Olaf! Get away from there or you'll melt!". Olaf then jumped away just as soon as he was dripping a bit even with the snow cloud above his head. "Sorry. I'm sometimes still a little drawn to heat despite what would happen if I get too close.", Olaf said. "So, what's the point of this challenge?", Sven asked a few seconds after the platform in front of them became covered in fire. "Good question.", Jacob said. They all saw that Riddler projected himself on the wall, but for once, he remained silent and just watched them, seemingly enjoying their confusion as far as the flames. "Hey, asshole!", Jacob said to Riddler, but he did not respond to that insult. "Hey, douchebag!", Jacob tried again, but Riddler still did not respond. Jacob then thought for a second before he called Riddler another name. "Excuse me, Mr. Nygma, sir?", Jacob said. Riddler then responded by saying, "Yes, Jacob? What can I do for you? And thank you for asking so nicely.". Jacob just rolled his eyes and asked, "What is it we're exactly supposed to do for this one?". "This challenge I designed at last minute specifically for your girlfriend. Riddle me this, Elsa: What comes down, but never goes up?", Riddler asked Elsa. Elsa then thought it out for a second and the answer popped in her mind. "The answer is rain.", she answered. "Correct, but another acceptable answer specifically for you would be snow. You must create some snow in order to extinguish the flames and get to the trial.", Riddler explained. Elsa then did as Riddler instructed and shot snow from her hands in order to put out the flames. After that, the platform was clear of fire and cooled down. "Now then, you may proceed.", Riddler said to them. The heroes then moved forward until they got to some kind of display with seemingly nothing. "Your challenge, my dear is to hit a certain number of targets with your ice blasts within one minute. If you are able to hit 60 targets within a minute, then the hostages get the next key. If you are unsuccessful in this task however, you will never see your sister again.", Riddler explained and then threatened. The ways that he just kept threatening her sister made her just even more angry on the inside, but she got her composure together and said, "I'm ready.". "Good. Your minute has begun!", Riddler said. Just then, one target popped up and she easily blasted that and it then went away. Another target appeared almost immediately after and she then blasted that one. Then two more showed up, then three, then four, then six all at once. Halfway into the minute, she had already blasted almost 30, but she still had a way to go. She kept blasting and keeping up the pace with how fast the targets were popping up and then disappearing then how slowly they were going at the beginning. With 15 seconds left, Elsa had blasted 45 targets. The targets then kept coming and going faster than ever towards the end. Elsa went as fast as she possibly could before time was up. When time was up, she had ended up blasting and freezing a total of 62 targets. After the challenge was done, Riddler popped up on the wall again. "Well done, Your Majesty! You hit two more than you needed to. I give you credit on the extra effort.", Riddler said. Elsa then shouted, "I've had enough of this! Just let my sister go and let us go home!". "You're done when I say you're done!", Riddler told her. Jacob then comforted her by saying, "Don't worry, Elsa! We will save her and then go back home to Arendelle!". He then turned his attention more angrily to Riddler and said, "And after that, we're coming after you, Nygma! And when we do, I am going to shove my foot so far up your ass you won't be able to sit right for a month!". Riddler just stayed silent for a moment after the threat he just received. Well, you may now head over to the pressure pad and tell your sister and the cat which key to get.", he said after what Jacob told him. Elsa then walked over to the pressure pad with the light board up in front of her and stood on it. All the lights went on with all red but one which was green. Elsa then sent a message to Anna telling her which cabinet to choose. Glass cabinets appeared yet again in front of the hostages back at the orphanage. "Hey, Eddie? Can't we play a different game? This one's getting old." Catwoman said. The girls then went over to where Elsa messaged Anna where the right key was. Once they got in front of that cabinet, Anna motioned her head to Catwoman in order to proceed. "Your sister better be right about this.", Selina said. "Trust me, she is.", Anna assured her. Catwoman then used her claws to cut open the glass and get the key. Catwoman first used the key on herself and then gave it to Anna. After Anna used it, she threw it aside. "And they say black cats are bad luck.", Catwoman said. Riddler came on the wall of the orphanage's main room and said, "Another key, well done. Of course, you'll lose all nine lives in an instant should I push this detonator, Cat!". Then, another door became lit bright green with this one being labeled "Advanced Deathtraps". "Another door? What a surprise!", Catwoman said. Back under the church, the heroes then started to make their way back towards the Batmobile. "Awesome job on those targets!", Jacob said to Elsa. "Thanks. I'm just glad I was able to hit enough just in time.", Elsa said. "I think anything is possible for you.", Jacob said to her. Elsa then slightly blushed once he said that. She then gave him a quick peck on the cheek as they continued to walk back to the car. They all got back in the car and started to drive back to the elevator. The door closed behind them once they got in the elevator and it then started to go up. Riddler then came on again and said, "I have always been the smartest man in the room, Detective, forced to endure the suspicions and mockery of those whose meager mental faculties prohibited them from appreciating that fact. And then you appear in Gotham, dressing up your cognitive capabilities-marginally superior, as they are, to that of the average hoodlum-in the guise of a crusading hero. And oh how the people swooned. To the orphanage, heroes! It's time to rejoin Catwoman and Anna for another trial.", and then went off. The elevator then came to a stop and the door opened. The Batmobile then exited the elevator and started making its way back to the orphanage again.
