Chapter 17

It was alright night time and they arrived to an old building. Spike picked the lock getting the double doors to open up. Cara walked in front of them entering the building. The lights were dim and the whole inside looked like it was completely trashed. Marcus appeared behind them coming alone walking with Angel.

Cara walked around seeing something moving from a distance. She slowly moved towards it pulling out her gun. Something jumped out in front of her knocking her on the ground. She did what she could to push it away from her. Cara got a foot lose kicking it off her as it flew far enough to hit the wall. She picked up her gun keeping it pointed at it slowly moving forward.

Spike came into the room seeing her pointing her gun to one of those demon animals. It got up standing on it's legs ready to charge after her. She pulled the trigger shooting at it aiming for the heart. This took a couple of shots until it turned into some white light withering to dust.

"Let's keep going," she said having him follow her.

Spike took her hand in his leading her deeper into the building. He stopped hearing something coming from one of the doors in front of them. "What is that?" She asked him.

He shushed her having her follow him figuring out which door it came from. Very lightly his hand was on the door knob slowly turning it as it opened. The room lights were very dim making it hard to really see what was going on. They walked in slowly getting closer to the noise ahead of them.

Cara turned on the flashlight trying to see ahead of her. Spike stopped seeing the light shining on Dru making out of a chaos demon. It was a moment that he remembered when he caught her before when they were supposively together. This time it didnt phase him at all like before.

"Drusilla," he noticed her.

"Spike." She said getting up covering herself up.

"A little more than making out," Cara said a little grossed out.

"Have you guys seen Drake around?" Spike questioned her.

"Big guy right, yeah I've seen him," The demon looked at him. "Mainly he goes around bars at night looking for women."

"Right," Spike said walking away from them grossed out.

"You're still with her aren't you?" Dru asked him.

Spike stopped a moment turning back to look at her briefly. "She's my wife now," he answered her shutting the door leaving them in the room.

"That's a chaos demon?" Cara asked Spike.

"Unfortunately yes," he answered her following her away from the door.

They went back downstairs meeting Angel and Marcus. "Anything?" Spike asked them.

"A few vampires, I think we need to start hitting the bars. It seems like it's a pretty common place he's at," Angel looked at them.

"Then we check every bar and dance club in the city," Cara replied.

"We got time to check a couple of bars before daylight," Angel had them follow him. They did go to a couple of bars not finding him. It was almost like he was making it difficult for them to track him down.

They made their way around the crowds walking around. "I've been here there are stairs that lead to rooms in this place." Cara looked at them.

She pulled out her gun arming it ready shoot if necessary. They went upstairs noticing men dead on the floor with guns. "Take them," she said handing them to Angel, Spike, and Marcus. She heard a female moaning in the room on front of them. "He's in there."

Cara kicked the door open and Drake quickly turned around in his half human vampire type form and took the woman biting her killing her imediately. They started shouting and he quickly escaped going out through the window. Cara noticed the steps that lead up to the top of the building going after him.

She was able to make it all the way to the top. It was starting to rain as it poured hard from the sky. Drake had his clothes on when she made it to the top. He turned to see her with her gun pointed at him.

"You really think you can kill me?" He looked at her.

"You murdered my ancestors," She kept the gun pointed at him.

"They took her away from me," Drake said angry.

"No, she didn't love you." The rest of the guys were standing behind her. "You killed everyone one of them so you could be with her. You left her all alone, and no matter what you forced her," Cara explained remembering from reading the books.

"You lie." He grabbed her shoving her against the door holding her still literally choking her. Spike and Angel reacted quickly going after him trying to pull him off her. Then for some reason something in him made him stop throwing them off him escaping. Cara fell to the ground catching her breath, Angel got up quick enough helping her up while Spike got up from being thrown.

"He could have killed me," Cara said calming down.

"You alright?" Spike walked towards her.

"Fine, just a little winded." Spike looked at her making sure she was ok. He helped her make it to the bottom of the building. Angel had her go home and rest calling it a night. Her and Spike walked to the apartment. They got the door opened letting themselves in. Cara took off her jacket noticing a scratch on her arm.

"You're arm." Spike noticed it.

"It's fine," she sighed.

He went to get something to clean it up and bandage it. Spike had her hold out her arm so he could clean it and bandage it up. "He hurt you," Spike looked at her.

"I'm fine, I hit my arm against something and it scratched it." He finished up putting a bandage over it and she walked to the bedroom.

"Are you that careless?" He asked her.

"No, I'm not I am use to getting hurt on the job or something happening. I did everything alone I'm just not use to someone caring," she explained.

Spike understood what she meant "I'm sorry love, I know you're going through a lot," he said comforting her. Her hand rubbed along his face, he took her hand kissing it holding on to it.

"Spike, I don't know what my destiny is. According to Wes, I should be gone like the others. It just sometimes makes me question on why I'm here. Am I just suppose to do what needs to be done and that's it?" Cara looked at him.

He took a step closer to her looking directly at her. "I don't believe that pet, you're here for a reason. You're unique, strong, you have a long road ahead of you. I can admit I am in a much better place than I was three years ago. I realize I have a purpose for being here."

"Which is?"

"Doing the right thing." Cara changed clothes then got into bed.

"It was kind of gross seeing your ex with that demon," Cara says remembering seeing Drusilla.

"That's her problem and yes it was disgusting," Spike agreed with her. They both had fallen asleep after a while.

The next day, Wes got into the subject of her supposed destiny. Cara didn't believe much of it knowing she wasn't going to let anything keep her from Spike. The lecture lasted a little longer until Spike told them to come to Angel's office. Both of them got up going into Angel's office allowing Wes to walk in front of him then Cara.

Spike was worried about her with everything going on. They entered the room and she immediately noticed Buffy.

"Hi again," Cara said nicely.

"Hi," Buffy replied.

"I asked Buffy to come here to take some of the responsibility off you. She said she can help," Angel explained.

"I appreciated that." Cara looked at Angel. "Spike, did you have any part of this?" Cara questioned him.

"A little," he admitted.

"Angel told me what has been going on. You don't have to do this alone," Buffy said nicely.

"Thanks guys and Buffy." She appreciate the fact that they wanted to take some of the responsibility off her.

Angel was use to the fact that Derek always came in letting himself in his office. "Don't you knock?" Cara asked her brother seeing him coming in.

"Sorry." He noticed Buffy immediately. "Hey, you are?" He introduced himself.

"Buffy." She said nicely. He took her hand kissing it, Buffy blushed a little seeing how much of a gentleman he was being.

"This is my brother Derek, he thinks he's a ladies man," Cara introduced her.

Buffy seemed to be attracted to him by the way she was looking at him. Angel just rolled his eyes at him seeing he was flirting with her.

Spike sat there finding humerous that Derek was flirting. Cara grabbed a crumbled piece of paper throwing it at him. "We all know you suck knock it off," Cara said annoyed with Derek. The guys chuckled at that a little hearing her.

"Any ideas?" Angel said getting back on subject.

Cara raised her hand and Angel let her talk. "Doing research when it comes to vampires, the stake doesnt work with this guy. He's immune to sunlight, and regenerates. Setting him on fire won't do anything, so is there a way to create some sort of a virus something that will get into his system and wipe him out completely." Cara explained.

"Sounds like a good idea, where would we get it?" Angel asked her.

"We need to find someone who knows anything about Drake and his species. What will effect him won't effect you. Derek, you know a lot of people see what you can find out," Cara asked him.

"I will," he assured her.

"Also, I'm resigning with the police force. I email my resignation, I'm probably better off here so I can focus better. I been doing police work for ten years." Cara told them.

"We can definitely use you," Angel looked at her.

Hearing that made Spike relieved that she was no longer going to be out on the streets anymore. Cara knew this would take the stress off her. "Doing both jobs together was stressful." Cara admitted.

"Wes, we can stay more focused on what we are looking for," Cara looked at him.

"You have more to catch up on," Wes reminded her.

"Anything you need I'm here," Spike looked at her. Buffy noticed how much Spike had changed learning he was able to get past his own mistakes and move forward. She was happy that he could finally be the man that he always wanted to be.

After a while everyone left the office except for Spike and Cara. "So you sticking around?" Cara asked Buffy.

"Looks like it and Congrats you two," Buffy said hearing about what her and Spike did.

"Thanks," Cara said nicely. She step out of the way to talk to Angel.

"I'm glad you found happiness," Buffy looked at Spike.

"I didnt expect to fall in love again but I'm glad I'm not alone anymore," he replied.

"If things could have been different," Buffy said remembering.

"It's not important anymore." Spike said moved on from the past. He was in a new place in his life and in love with Cara that was enough for him.

"So what do we do now?" Buffy asked Spike.

"Move forward."
