Adam literally coughed when Angus came down stairs surrounded by a cloud of aftershave. He looked at Kim who warned him, with just a glance to keep his fat mouth shut. "Hey sweetheart." Kim smiled at Gus. "What time will you be home?"

He was apparently going out with a group of friends to the movies and then for burgers although Kim suspected that it wasn't so much a group of friends as Olive he was interested in catching up with.

"Is ten okay?"

"Sure. Dad will pick you up."

He looked a little hesitant. "Okay."

"Just text us with where you want to be picked up from." Kim cocked her head and smiled at her son. "I'll make sure he doesn't do anything stupid."

"It's Dad."

Adam rolled his head back against the couch where he was watching a game. "Hey, I'm right here." It was a rare day off lately and he planned to spend all of it on the couch unless Kim had more interactive plans for them. "What's up with your hair?" He turned slightly and saw his chaotic hair, sticking up at all angles and deliberately so judging by the amount of product in it.

"Adam, shut up." Kim rolled her eyes and then turned back to Gus. "Have fun? Do you have enough money?"

"Yeah." He gave his Mom a quick kiss on the cheek and bolted out the door before his Dad could say another word.

Kim came and stood behind him and Adam looked up eventually. "What?"

"Did you have too? Leave him alone. You were worried about him not having any clue about girls and now he's trying and you are mocking him."

"Well he's got a clue now, how many have we been through lately?" Adam grumbled. "And not all of them were a fun ride now were they?"

"Not exactly."

Adam scoffed. "Hey? Do you want me to show you my moves?"

"No." Kim tugged his hair playfully and returned to the laundry to finish folding the washing. She did think about getting Adam to help but he had been working late all week and he had already promised to cook dinner so she was happy for him to relax for a few hours.

Polly and Sam had gone up to the Beach House for the weekend. They couldn't stop that train from leaving the station. But they had the house to themselves for a few hours. It was strange getting used to having all this extra time alone after so many years of immersing themselves in raising Polly and Angus.

Kim had tried to bring up all the wayward strays with Gus and he just shrugged it off, he was apparently just trying to help and they knew he was still chatting to Olive, he always had his head in his phone and was very cagey. He'd been playing it pretty cool when it came to Olive for quite a while.

Now suddenly he had a spring in his step again and all the other strays stopped hanging around and Polly eventually told her parents that it was because Olive was coming back to town and Gus was shitty with her when Adam bought it up.

They were still a little concerned about Olive and Gus, she'd caused enough drama already and the last thing they wanted was more teenage angst. They had plenty of that already. It wasn't that Olive was not lovely. She was actually a sweet girl and was always polite and grateful for their help, she just seemed to bring trouble.

After the party drama Zac didn't fade away quietly. He was charged with low level common assault and given a community order but along with his friends they made life hell for Olive and of course Gus didn't take a step back. They eventually realised that Gus wasn't going away or backing down and gave up. A few well timed appearances from Adam certainly helped straighten things out.

Then Olive's parents separated and that started a whole new round of drama. Their house suddenly became a bolthole and they had yet another weeping teenage girl with wildly fluctuating hormones in their midst and an overly dramatic and protective Gus.

Polly hilariously declared one night that she was glad she wasn't that bad which sent Adam off on a rant that lasted almost an hour about how navigating Polly's hormone riddled mid-teens was akin to climbing mount Everest in a shorts and flipflops. It was entertaining for everyone but Polly. Even Sam sided with her Dad which lead to a bit of a dry spell for him which didn't bother Adam one iota.

When Olive's Dad took a job in Seattle Olive went with him for a few months. Her mother had instigated the breakdown of the marriage by having an affair and her new 'boyfriend' wasn't exactly thrilled to have a teenage daughter causing havoc. Her mother didn't have a lot of time for her either, in between work, which was always hectic and her own social life, Olive was often well down the list.

For a short while it was like Déjà vu for Adam and Kim and they held their breath hoping like hell they weren't in for another rollercoaster like that of Abbey. Kim flat out asked Olive while she was over for dinner one night if anything like what happened with Abbey was going on and she assured Kim that it wasn't. "He's just not very nice. He thinks I'm a bit of a hassle."

"Are you sure? We can help you Olive. Please know this is always a place you can come if you feel unsafe."

"Mrs Ruzek." She always called her that even though Kim told her constantly that she could call them Kim and Adam. "Gus told me about Abbey, he talks about that a bit. Nothing like that is happening I swear. At all. He doesn't even talk to me much. I think he would rather I not be around at all."

"Okay. Just know Olive, our house is always open if things get too much to handle."

"Thank you. I really like it here."

"We like having you here too." Kim didn't quite lie, they did like Olive but lately she'd been here a lot and what concerned them the most was that they were young, stupid and full of swirling hormones. Adam would lose his shit if anything was going on between them. They were way too young for sex. He barely coped with Polly at seventeen and now she was nineteen and he still pretended it wasn't happening. Gus at fifteen might just about finish him off.

It was almost a relief when Olive decided to go live with her father while things settled down at home. Gus wasn't particularly happy but he assured his parents that they were just friends anyway.

That was the least of their worries as it turned out. Gus suddenly found his mojo and they had a steady parade of young girls through the house. It was doing Kim's head in. She was the ultimate mother bear and hated every single one of them. Adam thought it was amusing watching Kim wig out. She'd teased him about his insanity with regards to Polly and now he was enjoying that Kim was just as insane.

To be fair, Polly didn't attract much attention, it was mainly just Sam that made his intentions pretty clear and hung around. Gus, on the other hand seemed to have half of Chicago throwing themselves at his feet and 'infesting' their house.

Although Adam's head exploded when Gus came home with a young girl who just happened to be pregnant. He was like a refuge, he collected all sorts of wayward souls and all of them were young girls.

"What?" he literally dropped the bottle of water he was holding when Kim told him. She had been in a total flap when Adam got home.

"There is a pregnancy test in Polly and Gus's bathroom."

"I'll fucking kill Sam. I will kill him." Adam wasn't mucking around. He had warned them both, constantly, that he wouldn't be happy.

"It's not Polly's." Kim had been on Polly the moment she walked through the door and demanded to know why it was there. She had an implant and Polly constantly assured them that they still used condoms, although they weren't as diligent as they once were. Polly was a little pissed with her mother but made it clear that it wasn't hers. She'd never taken a pregnancy test and was pretty sure she wasn't pregnant.

It took a moment to sink in. "Fucking Angus."

"Adam this can't be happening."

"I will kill her."

"Who?"

"Whoever it is." He seethed. "Which one is it?"

"It's almost funny how you want to kill Sam and this girl but not Polly or Angus."

"Oh no, I will kill them too. That's it. Polly and Sam aren't having sex again and Angus, well he'll be too fucking scared to stick it in anything again."

Kim furrowed her brow. "Be rational."

"Rational? Rational?" Adam waved his arms around wildly. "Our fifteen year old son has knocked someone up, we don't even know who, there's been a hundred different girls traipsing through here lately. Fifteen, he's fifteen." He spluttered. "Why the fuck am I the only one freaking out right now? Where the fuck is Angus?"

"I don't know."

Adam grabbed his phone from his pocket and called his son which went straight to message bank. "Angus, get your ass home now." He seethed into the phone. He threw it on the bench. "Fuck Kim, this is my worst fucking nightmare."

"Worse than Polly?"

"Nope, I don't know." He ran his hands over his face. "I need a drink."

"It's not even lunch time."

Adam cocked his head. "Does it really matter?" Kim made him coffee instead, not that she was sure caffeinating him was a good idea.

"So who do you think it is?" Kim leant on the bench drumming her fingers distractedly.

"Any one of a hundred." He muttered.

"There is not a hundred of them Adam."

"He collects girls like candy at Halloween." That wasn't a lie, Angus seemed to attract every wayward teenage girl within a 30 mile radius. Anyone who needed helped ended up sitting around their dining room table at some point and more than once Adam had walked in, seen some random stray at the table and kept walking upstairs leaving Kim to deal with it. He never fared well, but she couldn't really blame him. Every time he got involved he said something stupid that just made the girl cry and Gus angry.

The spare room was about to be renamed 'Angus's rescue room.'

"Hmmm. I mean he's a good kid, he obviously cares about people, or doesn't know how to say no but I don't like this Adam. I feel sick, like physically sick. Like early pregnancy type sick."

"It's not yours is it?" Adam gave her a wry smile. He'd probably have as big a conniption if it was, it would almost be worth telling him it was hers just to see the side show. "By the way, was it positive or negative?"

"What?"

He looked at her weirdly.

"I don't know, it was just the box."

Adam started reminiscing about when they took their first pregnancy test with Polly and how freaked out they were. "Doesn't seem that long ago does it?" At least he smiled when while he talked about their road to parenthood. It was unexpected at the time and they were terrified but excited and Polly had been a dream come true, as was Gus when he followed. They wouldn't give them back.

"Nope. I thought I was going to vomit and I am surprised I managed to actually get any pee on the stick."

"I feel like I am going to vomit now and I don't think I could pee outta my stick at the moment."

Waiting for Angus to show his face was painful. Adam was like a bear with a sore head and Kim was a nervous wreck and she told him to piss off more times than he could count until he eventually went outside to attack a plant he hated in the garden while Kim cleaned the bathroom to within an inch of its life.

Kim squealed when Gus actually came in. "Oh god Angus, don't sneak up on me."

"Sorry. What's up with Dad?" He held up his phone. "He sounds angry."

"Wait here." She told him and stuck her head out the back door and called him. Adam dropped what he was doing and literally bolted inside. Even the sight of that made Gus nervous.

He totally ignored Kim's plea to try and stay calm. "What the hell is going on Angus?"

"What?"

"What? What? Care to explain the empty pregnancy test in your bathroom?" He got straight to the point, there was no reason to pussy foot around it and Kim knew it would be fruitless to try and talk sensibly to either of them.

"Have you asked Pol?" Sadly Gus had the same asshole streak in him that his father did. They were cut from the same cloth.

"What do you think?" Adam snapped. "Who's is it?"

Angus looked at his mother and got no help from her. "It's Imogen's."

"Who the fuck is Imogen?" It was not a name that either of them had heard before nor had they met her.

"Just a girl I know." Gus shrugged. "It's not mine."

"Not fucking good enough Angus." Adam was clearly not in the mood for his surly teenager.

"What? It's not mine. I'm just helping."

"For Fuck's sake Angus. This is not a fucking halfway house for pregnant teens. Who's is it?"

He shrugged which sent Adam off the deep end. Kim felt that Adam was losing control rapidly and the more he did the surlier that Gus became. They butted heads constantly. "I'm just trying to help." He flung at his father.

"I know." Kim jumped in when she felt Adam relenting. "Come on Gus, this wasn't the best thing to come home to find out about. If you need help, ask for it. You are fifteen, you can't handle this yourself."

"Imogen didn't want anyone to know. She was scared. I was just trying to help." He reiterated.

"We will help you and Imogen. This isn't a joke Angus, this is serious."

Adam threw his hands up in the air. Of course Kim would jump into the middle of this drama with both feet. No wonder Gus was a collector of damsels in distress, he learnt it from his mother. He did not want to be involved in a teenage pregnancy drama.

Gus calmed down and talked to his mother about Imogen while Adam disappeared back outside. He wasn't the best guy to help and the less he said the better until he'd cooled down and Kim would fill him in eventually and tell him what they planned to do.

Gus steadfastly refused to give up any details about who the father of Imogen's baby was. It wasn't his news to tell apparently and Kim had to admire his loyalty.

"Dad." Gus came and found his Dad later that night, Adam had barely talked to him all evening. He was not happy with his son and Kim warned him not to create a scene so he said as little as possible. The last thing they both needed was to push Gus away, she politely reminded him of how much he struggled when Polly shunned him, just in case he forgot what that was like. Gus did a Polly which he didn't do often and Adam was surprised. They usually had their chats when they were in the car or out running.

"What's up Bud?" Adam turned the volume down on the TV.

"Can I talk to you?"

Adam patted the seat beside him. "Anytime."

Gus watched the TV for a while and Adam let it go, he'd speak eventually and one thing Adam had at least learnt was not to jump in with both feet and let them lead the conversation. "I'm sorry Dad."

"It was just a shock Gus, a head's up would've been nice. Your mother freaked out."

"Mom?" Gus raised one eyebrow at his father. "Yeah right."

"Okay, so I may have wigged out. I just don't want that for you Angus. You are fifteen. It's not even legal."

He rubbed his hands on thighs. "Dad, I'm not going to get anyone pregnant."

"Good."

"I can't." he looked at his hands. "I haven't, like…..done that."

Adam breathed a little easier all of a sudden. "Okay. Do you want too?"

"No, not yet. I don't really like any of the girls like that." He stared at the TV, it was easier if he didn't look at his Dad. For a moment Adam held his breath he thought that Gus was about to tell him that he didn't like girls at all and he would've been okay with that but it still would have taken his breath away. "How old were you?"

"Sixteen, in the back of a car with my girlfriend, Angelique." Kim would probably throttle him if she knew he was talking about losing his virginity but Adam had always been completely honest with his kids about sex.

"That's not legal either." Gus teased him.

"Shhh."

"Did you love her?"

Adam laughed a little. "I thought I did, well I did at the time. My sixteen year old version of love anyway. Nothing like what I've got going on with your mother though." Adam turned his head to look at Gus who was still staring at the TV but he was chewing his bottom lip. "Gus, you gotta use condoms Bud, every single time."

"I know Dad."

"I will buy them for you if you want. I won't say a word to your mother but Gus please be careful." He was also going to have another conversation with his daughter and her horny boyfriend. It never hurt to remind them that a teenage pregnancy is this house was not wanted no matter how mortified Polly would be. Sam seemed to take them in his stride now, which wigged Polly out even more.

"Dad."

Adam held up his hands. "I won't say another word."

They both turned their attention to the game, on the outside at least because both Adam and Gus's minds were focussed on anything but what was on the screen. "I didn't know what else to do Dad."

Adam tapped Gus's leg. "I know Bud. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. There is a lot of Kim Burgess in you."

"Is that good?"

"Man, Gus that's the best thing in the world."

When Gus asked his Dad if they were going for a run in the morning he realised that the conversation was over. Adam turned off the TV and followed Gus upstairs and crawled into bed where Kim instantly rolled into him. "How's Gus?" she muttered.

"Still a virgin apparently."

"Well that's a relief."

"Isn't it? Never been so happy to talk about sex with my kid." Adam kissed the top of Kim's head. "He's a good kid Kim, he just wants to do the right thing and help."

Kim sighed. "Why do I get the feeling that this is just the tip of the Iceberg?"

"Because it's our fucking kids and they are flypapers for fucking drama." Adam muttered, he was just about asleep already.
