"Do we really need a car seat?" Beck asks as he follows Jade down an aisle of the BuyBuy Baby store in Midtown "We live in New York. We either walk everywhere or take the subway."

The new year had arrived quickly and the month of January passed them by in the blink of an eye. With the baby's due date now just six short weeks away, the soon-to-be parents had decided it was time to get serious about their preparations. Those preparations mainly consist of, but aren't limited to, shopping.

"How many times have we taken an uber in the past eight months, Beck?" Jade reminds him "And what if one of us wants to take her to visit our parents? We don't necessarily need two of them, we can share one and pass it back and forth, but if we ever take her in a car of any kind she needs to be in a car seat."

"Alright." Beck sighs, looking up at the display of car seats "So, uh...which one?"

He won't admit to knowing anything about car seats. From the look of the display there's a lot to consider, the age and size of the child, various safety features, durability, the weight of the seat itself...immediately he regrets not doing more research. Thankfully, Jade seem to have done enough for the both of them.

"One of these two." She gestures to two baby carriers sitting beside each other on the display "They both have bases, but can be strapped in without it using a seatbelt. They're also both supposed to be pretty lightweight, and I don't know about you but I don't really want to be lugging a fifteen pound carseat with me all over the city."

"Should we get the more expensive one?" Beck suggests "I mean, it's probably safer, right?"

"It's only more expensive because it snaps into the matching stroller." Jade points to the description "See?"

"Well then we should definitely get this one." Beck insists "Easier transport, right? And then we still have the stroller even when she outgrows the carseat."

After some discussion, they agree to get the matching car seat and stroller. Jade is thankful that the store has a delivery option, because there's no way they would be able to get everything they had purchased back to her apartment just the two of them. Especially since she isn't able to lift anything that is too heavy. In addition to a variety of clothes, blankets, and diapers, they had also selected a crib and a pan-n-play.

The store tells them that their items will be delivered in two hours, so they decide to grab lunch before heading back to Jade's apartment. Beck notices that it isn't as easy for Jade to keep up with him as it once was while they walk to the restaurant, so he slows his pace to match her's. He would never dare mention it but he knows she's reached the point in her pregnancy where daily life is becoming more difficult, which is just one more sign that the baby will be arriving sooner rather than later.

"Are you alright?" He asks her as they stop at a corner

She's breathing a bit harder than normal, but not in an alarming way. She just seems tired, and it's safe to assume that she is.

"You walk fast." She tells him as she hits the button to request a walk signal

"Sorry." He smirks "I'll let you set the pace."

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Like what?"

"Like a goofball."

"This is how I always look." He laughs

"Yeah okay, whatever."

After lunch, they take the subway back to Jade's apartment and await the delivery from the store. They only really have about half an hour of downtime before Beck is helping the delivery workers carry up the furniture boxes and bags, while Jade directs them on where to put everything. A few items go in her room, but they leave most of it in the living room for the time being so they can sort through it all. Knowing that it's the biggest box and takes up the most space, Beck drags the crib box into Jade's room to begin assembling it.

"Where do you want it?" He asks her as he pulls his keys out of his pocket to slice the box open

"Over here." Jade points towards the semi-empty space near the door "Shit, I'll move this stuff. Sorry."

When she and Cat switched rooms, she made sure to leave enough space for a crib. The way she saw it, it would be easier to just pick the space then rather than try to make room for it in a few months. The space stayed empty for a few weeks, but since then has started to accumulate junk she didn't know where to put.

"S'alright..." Beck laughs "It actually looks like it'll fit perfectly there."

While Beck starts the assembly process Jade re-homes the belongings that needed to be moved, then grabs some of the bags of clothes out of the living room and begins taking the tags off while she sits on her bed.

"Why are you doing that?" Beck raises an eyebrow at her "What if they don't fit her?"

"Then we'll donate them." Jade shrugs "I'm not taking all of the tags off of all of it, just the newborn and the zero-to-three month sizes. You're supposed to wash baby clothes before they wear them because their skin is so sensitive...can't do that if the tags are still on."

"You've been reading up, haven't you?"

"That advice came from my mom, actually."

"Well okay, but you knew which car seats were best for travel." He reminds her "And which pac-n-play had the best reviews...and-"

"Alright, so I did a little bit of research..." Jade sighs "What's the harm in that?"

"There is none." He assures her "I actually think it's great that you did it."

"Yeah well..." Jade rips another tag off of a pair of footed pajamas as tosses them aside "Anything we can do to prepare ourselves is good, right?"

"Right." He agrees

They make a bit of small talk as they each continue to work on their individual tasks, but not a whole lot. Eventually Beck speaks up again, this time about something much more important than any small talk they could make.

"So, would you be alright with Oliver-West?" He asks her "Or would you prefer West-Oliver?"

"Hm?" Jade looks at him questionably "What are you talking about?"

"Her last name." Beck clarifies "I just assumed you would want to hyphenate."

"Now why would you think that?" Jade smirks as she grabs another outfit "Because I have tattoos and piercings and am just all around progressive in most areas in my life?"

"Well..." Beck shrugs "Yeah, pretty much."

"That's a fair assumption, but if we're being completely honest...I really don't care." Jade admits "For a majority of my adult life now I've always intended to take the last name of whoever I end up marrying...which some might say is a little old-fashioned but whatever, I don't really care what other people think of me. I've never intended to pass West to my children...I don't really believe that your name has anything to do with who you are. You and your actions define your name, not the other way around."

"Huh..." Is all Beck can say "Well, alright."

"What?"

"Nothing." He shrugs "That's just not the answer I expected from you. It makes sense though...you're right."

"I know I'm right." Jade chuckles "I don't know if you've noticed, but I usually am."

"So, you would be okay if she just took Oliver?" He clarifies "Like, no hyphen?"

"Yeah." She confirms "I know that the whole 'passing the name' stuff is way more important to guys than it is to women anyway. My parents just gave me my dad's name, no hyphen, and I never questioned it."

"Okay." Beck grins "Thanks, Jade."

"Sure..." She laughs

"So, if her last name is Oliver..." He says "What about her first name?"

"I haven't really thought of anything too specific yet." Jade admits "But I do know I want it to be something unique. Not unique like Hashtag or Apple because those are...well they're stupid. But more unique that Emily or Sarah so she isn't one of like, seven girls in her class that have the same name."

"Alright, no nouns as names and no Emily or Sarah..." Beck chuckles "Got it."

"No Olivia either."

"What's wrong with Olivia?"

"I refuse to name her Olivia Oliver." Jade insists "It's the same name twice."

"Fair enough, I suppose."

"...do you have any names that you like?" She asks him

"I mean, I wouldn't have been opposed to Emily." Beck admits as he continues on with the crib "But now that you mention it, you're right. It's a bit too common."

"Oh look, I'm right again." Jade smirks, reaching for her phone "I'm going to look at a baby name website or something..."

"We don't have to pick one today. We have until March."

"Yeah, I know..." Jade nods "But I think it would be a good idea to start looking and figure out what we do and don't like."

But doing so proves to be a bit harder than they thought. There's plenty of names that they can agree won't work at all, but there aren't many they can both agree on as contenders. Beck likes Maisie, but Jade openly detests it. Jade likes Blaire, but Beck can't get on board. They go back and forth like that for close to an hour, until Jade reads one name in particular off of her screen. They both stop what they're doing and share a look with one another, smiling.

"I love that." Beck admits

"Me too." Jade agrees "Should we...should I keep looking or...?"

"I mean, you can if you want." Beck shrugs "But I think that's her name."

"I think so too."

Jade can't help but laugh as the baby kicks her legs around, almost as if to signal to her parents that she agrees with them.

"I think she likes it too." She grins, resting a hand on top of her belly "All of a sudden she's moving around a bunch."

"Good." Beck smiles back at her "I'm glad we figured that out. Of course if we see her and it doesn't fit at all we can change our minds, but..."

"I agree." Jade nods "Unless it feels completely wrong when we see her, that's her name."

Beck finishes putting the crib together and Jade helps him push it into place. It's white with a changing station built onto the side, and has a few drawers beneath it for clothes and diapers. Once they've determined that it's in exactly the spot that Jade wants it to be, Beck says goodbye to her and runs home to change quickly so he can get to the theater on time for that evening's show.

Jade finishes removing the tags from the baby's clothes and moves them all to a laundry bag, intending to wash them with baby detergent once she buys it. After making herself something for dinner, she retreats back to her bedroom and grabs her laptop, settling herself on her bed to edit pictures.

Around eight-thirty the door to the apartment opens and closes, signaling that Cat has returned from rehearsals. Around nine, there's a knocking sound at the doorway to her room. Jade looks up to see her roommate standing her doorway, her hair still damp from the shower she had taken.

"Hey." Jade smiles

"Hey..." Cat smiles back "Can I come in?"

"Sure?" Jade laughs "You don't normally ask."

"You look like you're busy."

"Just editing pictures." Jade assures her, closing her laptop as Cat sits down on the end of her bed "What's up?"

"I just wanted to check in and make sure you're doing okay." Cat shrugs "We've both been running all over the place this week and I feel like I've barely seen you."

Once she booked Mamma Mia, she was thrust into the rehearsal process immediately. For most of December and January Cat was gone for a majority of the day six days a week, which was a major change from the schedule she had fallen into when she was with Wicked. With Jade's own busy schedule, they haven't spent more than thirty minutes together in over a week...which would be acceptable if they were only roommates, but they're not. They're also best friends, and they would both admit they've been missing the time they usually get to spend with one another.

"I'm good." Jade assures her "How was rehearsal?"

"Really good." Cat admits "I'm having so much fun, so much more fun than I thought I would. I can't wait to open."

"That's great, Cat. I'm really happy for you."

"Thanks." Cat smiles "I see you have some new furniture..."

"Yup, Beck just put it together this afternoon." Jade nods as Cat stands up to look at the crib "I didn't want to put the bedding on until I've washed it, but it's there in the package."

"Oh, this is adorable." Cat admits, looking at the bedding inside the package "I love it."

The bedding is mostly gray with white and pink accents. Not disgustingly girly, but feminine enough.

"Thanks."

"Is this a changing table?"

"Uh huh, and there's room underneath for storage." Jade explains as Cat inspects the rest of the crib "When she gets big enough, we can take the rails off and it turns into a toddler bed."

"Oh wow, that's convenient. Did Beck get one for his place too?"

"No, he's just going to take the pac-n-play for now." Jade tells her as Cat moves to sit back down on the bed "She'll be here a majority of the time for the first year or so, and since he doesn't have a whole lot of space over there to begin with we thought it would be the best option. That way he can put it away when she's not there."

"That makes sense." Cat agrees "How's she doing?"

"She was spoiled rotten today, but she's good." Jade smiles, absent-mindedly running a hand over her belly "Beck and I think we might have even picked her name..."

"Really?" Cat gasps "What is it? Or are you not saying anything until she's born?"

"We're not really saying anything until she's born...but for my best friend I'll make an exception..." Jade smirks "Her name is Wyatt."

"Wyatt!" Cat grins "That's a great name, I love it."

"Thanks, we do too." Jade grins "We haven't picked a middle name yet, but we agreed it should be something more typically-feminine. You know...to kind of balance out the fact that it's a first name more common in boys."

"Caterina?"

"No, nice try though."

"That's okay. Oh...Wyatt..." Cat looks like she could cry "She's going to have such pretty hair just like you, I know it. And Beck's big brown eyes...holy shit I'm so excited to meet her."

"We are too." Jade admits "But not before she's ready. We still have some time left."

"Time!" Cat exclaims, jumping to her feet "I almost forgot!"

"Huh?"

"I'll be right back!"

Cat rushes out of the room and returns just as quickly. She has a business card in her hand and gives it to Jade rather eagerly.

"My director wants you to call him."

"...why?"

"I might have mentioned that you were the one who did the publicity shots for Beck's play..." Cat shrugs "And he might be interested in hiring you to do ours..."

"Cat, I'm having a baby in six weeks."

"And we're opening for previews before then!" Cat reminds her "C'mon, Jadey! Pleaaaase! You could come to work with me and-"

"Alright, alright..." Jade laughs "I'll call him."

There's no harm in earning herself a little bit of extra money before the baby is born if Jade can make it work with her schedule, especially since it would clearly mean so much to Cat. She accepts the business card and tucks it into her camera bag. It's too late to call now, but she will in the morning.

"Are you super slammed with editing right now?" Cat asks "Or...do you and Wyatt want to come watch a movie with me?"

"Wyatt and I can watch a movie." Jade smirks, loving the name even more now that she's able to say it out-loud and in context "Just let me finish up the lighting on this one real quick."
