Chapter 15: Celebrating 10 years
September 13, 2009
Morning
Grissom stopped the red mini van in the driveway to the beach house before getting out, along with the kids that also included Melissa, who took the twins out of the van while Grissom walked to the passenger side to help Sara out, who was blindfolded.
Once Sara was out, Grissom led her forward, and as they were walking, Sara spoke with a smirk. "You know that last time you wanted me to be blindfolded..."
Before Sara could finish that sentence, Melissa cuts her off after clearing her throat. "Uh mom, you have young kids here remember."
Not that she wanted to know what goes on in her parent's bedroom either.
Grissom chuckled, getting what their daughter meant, causing Sara to purses her lips before continuing with a smile. "As I was saying, the last time you wanted me blindfolded you surprised me with the house." She paused for a second before she gasped. "Gilbert Arthur Grissom, you better not have given me another..."
This time Grissom cuts her off while they all stopped their feet. "I promise this isn't a house." He then smirked. "I couldn't afford it even if I wanted to."
They all chuckled, then Sara asked. "Then what's going on?"
He moved his mouth closer to her ear and whispered. "Why don't you take the blindfold off and look."
When she did and opened her eyes, she gasped again, but in surprise because carved in the sand was a giant heart with the words 'Will you marry me...Again?' inside it.
Sara placed her hand up to her mouth while she turned around, but had to look down because he was down on one knee.
She nodded without saying a word at first, then she whispered softly once she found the words when the emotions that was going through her let her speak. "Absolutely freaking, yes."
The kids chuckled as he stood up and cupped her cheek with bright eyes and smile while bringing her closer to him so they could share a kiss, causing the kids to now cheer.
Once they pulled back, she asked while wrapping her arms around her husband's neck with a smile. "So, when is this happening?"
He ran one of his hands up and down her back with a smile of his own. "As soon as you get ready."
She looked at him wide-eyes. "Wait, what?"
"Everything you need to pick out is in the house."
"And what about who is remarrying us, are there any other guests, and where?"
He answered her last question first. "Is there any place better than our spot on the beach?"
"No, I guess not, but what about..."
He cuts her off with a smirk as he moved his head to the side. "Are those enough people for you?"
Sara got the hint and looked over towards the beach house and gasped, not only seeing the deck decorated,
but also saw the now cheering family members and friends they were closest to, which included her sisters, their significant others and Lea, causing her to become speechless for several seconds as she looked at her husband again.
A tear slowly went down her cheek as she whispered, still a little shocked. "How did you do plan all of this?"
He smirked again while wiping that away. "Believe me, it wasn't easy. You know how hard it is to hide a secret from someone you've known for over 20+ years and knows you like no other person in the world, outside of his parent of course, oh and who also happens to be a CSI and one of the best in my opinion." They all chuckled before he finished. "But, I had help, they all love you and wanted to do something special for you."
She cleared her throat as she cupped his cheek. "Us. This is our day."
"Yes it is, so what do you say?"
She nodded with a smile. "Let's get this thing started."
"You got it, honey."
They kissed softly one more time before heading towards the beach house, where they were greeted by their family/friends.
(Still at the Beach House)
After the ceremony ended, in which they renewed their vows in front of the people they loved and cared about the most with their kids standing up next to them, even the twins, who were held by each of Sara's sisters, they spent the next few hours enjoying their company, laughing, talking, reminiscing about old times, until Sara and Grissom looked at one another across the room, feeling it was close to their alone time.
Emily, who was the longest married woman within the group of guests, outside of Sara of course by a few days, caught the exchange between them so she subtly told the guests that it was probably time to leave, but of course, Tyler, her husband, the love of her life had to read between the subtle line and make a joke about what was happening once they left the house. Luckily the younger kids didn't understand, and everybody else just laughed it off.
Sara and Grissom held their young kids close while telling them how much they loved them and kissed them goodnight before they brought their oldest in their arms, thanking her for watching them tonight, especially since it was a school night so she had to get the boys up in the morning for school.
Melissa waved it off with a smile as she pulled back from their arms. "It's no problem, and don't worry about anything, just enjoy your night, we got everything handled."
They nodded with smiles, and after wishing them all goodnight again, Deion, who had the twins car seats in each of his hands, turned and walked out of the house while Melissa and the boys followed, shutting the door behind them.
As it clicked shut, Sara, who was in her white pant suit, smiled with passion in her eyes. "I'm going to go change, why don't you lock up?" He nodded with a smile while he watched her walk towards the master bedroom until he could no longer see her.
He took a breath while locking the front and back door, then he turned out the living room lights, grabbed some champagne from the kitchen, turned out those lights before he headed for the bedroom, a room that held a lot of memories for them.
In fact, this whole house was filled with them, considering it was their first home they lived in during their first five years of marriage, they brought both sons from the hospital to this home, not to mention, their first most intimate moments happened in this home, which all of that was a major reason why they couldn't let it go when they found another home once they realized they needed more space, and an extra room for an office.
Grissom was just finishing pouring the champagne in the glasses when the bathroom door opened, so he looked to the right and his mouth just about fell open when he saw his wife in nothing but panties and one of his dress shirts, that was half buttoned.
Seeing how speechless he looked while looking at her, she walked up to him slowly. "What, cat's got your tongue?"
He took a breath and cleared his throat before he tried to speak. "I uh...I am quite speechless right now."
She chuckled as she picked up her glass that was on the dresser. "I see that." She then smirked, but her eyes told him she was serious. "I uh, I heard this use to be one of your favorite visions, but of course when you first said that, I was quite youn..."
He cuts her off while cupping her cheek. "And that vision is still perfect to me, better even, anything you ware is still a perfect vision." He then lowered his mouth to her cheek and kissed it softly before moving to her ear and whispered with passion in his voice. "In fact, even when you're not wearing anything is still a perfect vision in my eyes."
She smiled with her eyes closed as he held her close to him, then she whispered. "Right back at you, Mr. Grissom." He slowly pulled back, and their eyes connected, but before he could move to kiss her lips she continued with a more serious tone. "But, before we get to our perfect visions, there is something I want to say." He nodded and pulled back a little to hear what she had to say, which he did after she cleared her throat and lifted up her glass. "Well, it's more like a toast to the man I love, the man I've loved since I was thirteen and who showed me, helped me feel what true love should be like. In fact, I am in so deep that I..." She stopped for a second to wipe a few tears off her cheek, then continued. "That I don't know what I would do if I ever lost you."
He shook his head and took her hand. "Honey, you're not going to lose me, we have another 20, 30, 50 years." He picked up her ring hand and ran his thumb over the wedding band and smiled. "They say that death will part us, but I don't believe that is true, we, our love will remain connected." He looked into her eyes with tears in them. "Like I said before, we are forever."
Sara smiled with more tears in his eyes. "Forever."
He brings her closer to him again and placed their foreheads together and closed their eyes, whispering 'Forever' a few more times.
After a few moments, she wrapped her arm around his waist while she smirked. "When did you become such a romantic?"
He smirked in return, but truly meant it. "Since I met you." They pull back slowly before he cupped her cheek once again. "God Sara, I felt like my world stood still the moment my eyes met yours across our school library. Everything I thought I knew, changed in an instant. I never knew it could feel like that, or even happen."
She sniffled as she asked. "What?"
"Love at first sight."
She smiled as she placed her hand on top of his. "Me neither."
After another few moments of just looking into each other's eyes, she whispered. "To ten years of marriage, and many more to come."
He finally grabbed his glass from the dresser and clinked his glass with hers. "To ten years, and many more to come."
They took a good long sip before placing the glasses back down on the dresser, then she took his hand and walked them towards the bed, sitting him down at the end of it once they were near it. She kneeled down and slipped off his shoes and socks before moving so she was now sitting on his lap with her legs wrapped around his waist, then they moved their lips towards one another and kissed a second later, growing with passion as their hands ran up and down their bodies before running their fingers through their hair.
When they pulled back after several minutes, they smiled at one another before she tightened her legs around him, knowing what his next move was, which she wasn't wrong because he moved them so she was now on her back on the mattress and he was above her. She then released her hold on him so he could slip his pants off, leaving him in his boxers and dress shirt before he was back in position so they could continue to kiss, slowly taking their time to appreciate their strong connection, knowing they had the whole night.
Afterward, with the sheet all the way up to Sara's chest, she was laying on her side when Grissom, who was just in his boxers, crawled back into bed and moved until he was right behind her, then he slipped one of his arms around her waist while moving his other hand down her left bare arm until he could slip his fingers through hers.
He kissed her head before looking down at their clasped hands and smiled at her ring. "10 years married to you, I still almost can't believe it." Even though he couldn't see her, she smiled while he continued. "Do you remember that day?"
She chuckled. "Of course, I thought you lost your damn mind, it had to be one of the most impulsive things you have ever done."
He smirked. "I had to keep you on your toes at some point, I couldn't be too predictable."
She chuckled again, then she sighed in content, feeling safe and loved. "Well, you definitely put me on my toes that day."
He also sighed in content before they closed their eyes and let their minds take them back to that day 10 years ago.
Flashback
September 13, 1999
Las Vegas
The minute Sara could get off the plane, she rushed out with her carry-on bag, then when she stepped in the airport, she looked around, but didn't have to look very long before she saw Grissom by the seats in the waiting area, so she rushed up to him, where his arms were already out towards her.
They hugged each other tightly as they whispered how much they have missed each other since this was the first time they've seen one another in almost two months.
When they finally pulled back, they smiled with tears in their eyes, then he cupped her cheek and ran this thumb up and down. They paused for a second just looking at one another while debating whether they want to kiss here or wait until they were in a more private area, but with them not kissing for so long, they both thought 'screw it' before moving their lips toward one another and kissed, one, like they never wanted it to end, and two, really not caring where they were during this moment.
They pulled back slowly and placed their foreheads together, whispering their love for one another.
When they pulled back again after she said they better get her bag, she picked up her carry-on from the floor, took his hand and they headed for the baggage claim.
After they got it, they started walking towards the exit, and that's when she asked. "We have four days to ourselves before our friends show up so we can watch Emily and Tyler get married, so what do you have planned for us?"
While this thought was something they had planned to do in the future, he still shocked her when he asked without any hesitation or shaky tone. "Maybe we should get married."
Sara immediately stopped her feet, causing him to stop immediately since she still had his hand, and when he turned to look at her, she shook her head with a smile. "Hold on, did you just say what I think you said?"
Still feeling confident on his suggestion, he nodded with no shame, and she shook her head again. "I uh, I don't know what to say."
He smirked, but was starting to feel worried. "You could say yes."
She then gave him a small smile as she squeezed his hand. "Griss." He stepped closer to her while she spoke again, a lot softer this time. "You realize I'm the only woman you've..."
He cuts her off with a reassuring tone. "And you know I am not that type of guy that needs to be with a bunch of women." When she looked down, he lifted her chin up and continued after taking letting out a breath. "Even when we weren't exactly together, I always felt that connection to you, you were always in my heart, so do you think I could have been with someone else and not think I was cheating on you? Do you really think I could have lived like that?" She shook her head 'no' with tears in her eyes as he finished, his heart breaking a little. "But if your hesitating because you want to have that experience with someone..."
She cuts him off immediately, not even liking the thought of being with someone else in that way. "No, of course not, that's not what this is about."
He wiped her tear away as he asked. "Then what is it?" When she hadn't replied, he asked, now feeling concerned. "Are you really trying to think of a reason to say no?"
She squeezed her hand before speaking again. "Please, just hear me out." He nodded and waited patiently. "I don't want this to be some spur of the moment type of thing that we feel like we have to do because we are in a different city and haven't see one another in a few months, then turn around and have second thoughts the next morning, or regret it a few years down the road."
He shook his head with a smile. "Marrying you will never be a regret to me, no matter when we get married." He cupped her cheek again. "And I know, despite talking about this happening anyway, what I am asking right now does feel sudden and out of the blue, which I don't do sudden, I like to plan things as thoroughly as possible if I can help it (Sara smirked with a nod, that was an understatement), but honestly, I just want to be your husband now and I'm tired of thinking about it happening 'someday' in the future." He took one more breath before he continued from his heart. "I love you Sara, and we both know you're 'it' for me and have been since our eyes first met." He moved to kiss her on the forehead as he finished while she had closed her eyes. "But if you need more time, I understand, really I do, just know that I am ready when you are."
He pulled back and picked up her carry-on bag and started to take a few steps away from her, but stopped when she spoke with a smile and tears going down her cheeks at his heartwarming words. "You know I think you're crazy right now."
He stopped and turned around with a smile. "And I probably am, but that's just one of the many things you do to me, you drive me crazy."
"And there should be legitimate reasons why I should say no and ask for you to wait a little bit longer."
"I know that too."
Then she shook her head with another smile. "But honestly, I can't think of a single one that would really justify me on saying that to you, because I love you too, and marrying you is something I've always wanted, with no second thoughts to be seen, so if you're really asking me, my answer is yes."
Grissom's heart sped up as he asked with his eyes shinning. "Yes?"
She nodded wiping her tears with a big smile. "Yes, I'll marry you today, now, even right here if you want to."
He chuckled as he walked back to her before whispering again, needing to hear it again. "Yes?"
She cupped his cheek with one more nod. "Yes, let's do it."
With bright eyes they kissed again, this time to cheering from the people who couldn't help but stop and watch the beautiful scene.
After they pulled back, they whispered their love for one another before he said. "Now, let's get married."
She chuckled as she slipped her fingers through his, and after both bags were in each of their free hands, the newly engaged, very soon married couple, started walking towards the exit of the airport, ready to vow to spend the rest of their lives together, not that they weren't already doing that now, it will just become 'official'.
End of Flashback.
While they came back to the present, and with their eyes still closed, she whispered. "So, any regrets?"
He sighed and kissed her head, then answered. "Since the day we got married, not one."
Hearing his tone, she asked softly while opening her eyes. "And before we got married?"
He sighed again before telling her how he felt, how he's felt for a long time. "There is something I wish we could go back and change, even if it meant changing the direction of how our professional lives ended up as." Sara closed her eyes again, having a feeling on what he was talking about, which her feelings was right there with him when he continued with emotion. "I know we gave a couple the miracle that they had been waiting on for a long time, and I am so happy that she ended up having a good life, but she was our miracle and I should have convinced you harder that we could have done it, that we could have made it work. And yeah, I know it wouldn't have been easy, but least we would have been together and we wouldn't have wasted those years pushing one another away in pain, then another 6 trying to make it work on scheduled visits."
Sara nodded her head with a few sniffles as she told him how she felt for along time. "And if we could go back, I would have let you convince me that we could have done it, no matter how hard it would get."
Then they held one another close as they let the pain of a road not traveled wash through them.
After a few moments, he moved up a little as she turned her head so he was looking down at her and they both whispered. 'Sorry' then he slipped his fingers out of hers and cupped her cheek before speaking again. "But as much as we wish we could go back, the life that we have now is what matters, which somehow we still ended up with everything we ever wanted, and more than we could have hoped for, including having a relationship with our oldest daughter, which I am very thankful and blessed for." He ran his thumb up and down in a soothing way as he finished with excitement in his eyes. "We may have missed out on her past, but we were given a chance to be a part of her future, and that's what I want to look forward to because I have a feeling it's a good one."
She nodded with a smile as her eyes remained teary. "Yeah, I believe so too."
He leaned down and kissed her forehead, then nose, cheek, which caused her to chuckle a little, and softly on her lips, not once or twice, but three times, making her smile against them at the third one before he pulled back, and with love in his tired eyes, he whispered one more thing. "I love you, and I'm looking forward to our future as well."
She smiled with now tired eyes. "I love you too, and count me in."
They kiss one more time before he gets back in place with her back against his chest, and with his arms securely around her, they fell asleep, dreaming of the life they've shared so far, and even a peek of their future, which if it is anything like their dreams, it was going to be a good one with a lot of love and laughter.
